When I try to update Acrobat 2.1.0.0 to 2.3.0.0 , why do I keep getting download failure, error #16820 ?
If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
* Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
* Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

When trying to update Acrobat, and after manually downloading Adobe AIR from adobe.com in order to start the download, the update failed with an Error# 16820. Can you please advise what this error is and how I can fix it? Thanks

Sounds like you have the Acrobat.com desktop (AIR) application installed. This application is no longer supported. I would suggest you uninstall it and simply use the web interface (http://acrobat.com) moving forward.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Mandadory update 2.3.0.0 gets error 16820
I've just started getting the error 16820 when I run Acrobat 9 Pro on my Windows Vista Home Premium. Included are the two screenshots. I reviewed the solution at http://forums.adobe.com/message/4315635#4315635 which recommends deinstalling the Adobe Desktop Application because that is what's causing the problem. However, it doesn't say how to do that and the program isn't listed in control panel.
Thank you, I actually did something different. I couldn’t find the desktop application in the control panel so I couldn’t de-install it. however, I repointed my start menu shortcut to acrobat.exe and now I’m fine. Thanks.

error 16820 prevents download, what do I do?
Thanks, I stumbled across the same and solved the issue. Adobe could be one heck of a lot clearer on this rather than forcing Macafee security systems on me.
Thanks -
I am very frustrated that after downloading Acrobat XI I can't use it. I get a message that I must install a mandatory update but the update won't download. I get an error message: Error 16820.
Any suggestions?@I think this is a mandatory update for something which (confusingly) is nothing to do with Acrobat XI. See Mandadory update 2.3.0.0 gets error 16820

cannot download mandatory update 2.3.0.0 adobe air for adobe_com error message 16820
it turned out that the "acrobat_com" that I was trying to update, was so
outdated that adobe was no longer supporting it, there fore I got the
error message when I tried to do the "mandatory" update. It had to be
uninstalled, and then the new one installed from the Adobe web site.
Thanks for your interest and your attempt to help me.

Can you try to download the latest AIR runtime from http://get.adobe.com/air/ ? Make sure all applications are closed when you run the installer.

Mandatory download will not download cites error #16820
I have not idea what the problem is. But Adobe will not open, and the mandatory update will not download. How do I determine what error no. 16820 means?
First of all, by posting in the correct forum, this is an Adobe Connect user forum and you are citing an Adobe Acrobat error. And then second, by Googling.

Hi, I'm trying to learn how to use the application updater
framework.
I'am starting from here:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/ajax/quickstart/update_framework.html
I've changed urls in the src/config/update-config.xml, and
when I click on the "check for update" button, the app find a new
version, but when I click on download a receive the error in
subject.
Googling around I found some suggestions, I've tried adding
the mime-type "application/octet-stream" for .air files on my web
server but didn't solved, any suggestion?
Thank youI did a step ahead and 2 step back. :-(
The previous error was simply caused by a typo in the url of
the new version air file.
Now I'm tryng to do the same thing the sample application
does on my app.
I've included the swf file "applicationupdater_ui.swf", I've
Inserted at the top of the file :
appUpdater = new runtime.air.update.ApplicationUpdaterUI();
appUpdater.configurationFile = new
air.File("app:/defaults/updates-config.xml");
// appUpdater.initialize();
appUpdater = new runtime.air.update.ApplicationUpdaterUI();
appUpdater.configurationFile = new
air.File("app:/defaults/updates-config.xml");
appUpdater.initialize();
If I remove the comment on the third line I got this error:
ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property
mx.resources:IResourceManager::initializeLocaleChain not found on
mx.resources.ResourceManagerImpl and there is no default value.
