OK, but what results when you issue SQL below after issuing STARTUP UPGRADE?

Error When creating a database on a newly upgraded home to 11.1.0.7
Here are the variables:
OS: LInux RHEL 5.2 64bit
Storage: ASM
Clustered database
This is a fresh install. We first installed 11.1.0.6. Only the software, no databases.
We then applied the 11.1.0.7 patchset to the following homes in the following order
1-CRS Home
2-ASM Home
3-ORACLE_HOME
*Note at this time we only have the software and no actual databases installed.
Once everything is upgraded to 11.1.0.7 (Confirmed by Opatch) we proceeded with installing a database using dbca.
Specified the oracle home and path to the right ones.
Once the install starts we get the following error message:
ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced. (which really doesn't tell much!!)
the alert log for it shows:
ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure
ORA-39700: database must be opened with UPGRADE option
and points to another file that shows:

Any thoughts on what the issue might be here??
Thanks in advance.
Edited by: user9538681 on Jan 23, 2009 7:35 AMDid you choose in DBCA a predefined (with seeded databases) or a customized (new database) installation? If it is a predefined installation there is something wrong with the delivered datafiles, although the patchset should include an already patched set of datafiles. The error messages say, you have patched software, but un-patched datafiles.

Hi, I compiled my set of codes on Borland JBuilder 3 on one computer and it's fine, but when I run it on JBuilder 6, it complains with theses errors, any help?
The first 2 errors are from these lines:
import javax.servlet.http.*;
import javax.servlet.*;
The last error comes from:
public class ImageServlet extends HttpServlet {
Any help would be appreciated. ThanksI am using VisualAge for Java and experienced a similar problem.
Some applications require you to install some packages as they are not part of the inital installation.
Check your application's package list and see if the javax.servlet package is included. If not, you will have to add it to your applications list by installing it. -

Oracle 10G error - while installing 4.6C
Dear all,
I have tried installing 4.6c directly in oracle 10g in a HPUXIA64 server.
I followed the note 946141 and did the central instance and also installed Oracle and upgrade it to 10.2.0.2 then applied the interim patches.
After applying the interim patches I started the DATABASE.R3S file and it has loaded the data successfully and also statistics update was done successfully.
But it fails to start the database. when I checked the alert log it says.
ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure
ORA-39700: database must be opened with UPGRADE option
Wed Dec 5 21:54:29 2007
Error 704 happened during db open, shutting down database

Can anyone help me to solve this issue

Mutex Error: Task 0x242 is attempting to ....
Hi all,
I hav a window with a tree Node list on the left and a nested window on the
right.
When I click on a node of the tree Node View I open a new window on th right
side of my main window.
I'm working with Forte' 3.0.M.2 and Windows NT 4.0 as client
Sometimes, when I click on a node I get this error:
SYSTEM ERROR: Task 0x242 is attempting to
access or modify a Widget owned by
Task 0x26a while holding a Mutex that Task 0x26a is waiting
for. (Widgets are
'owned' by the Task which Opened the 'outermost'
UserWindow.) Since this would
result in a deadlock the current Task will be aborted. To
avoid this deadlock
you must either release the Mutex before operating on the
Widget or post an
Event to the appropriate owning Task to do this operation
for you. This
restriction is imposed by the Win32 "Apartment Model"
multithreading
architecture of Windows 95 and Windows NT, so this problem
will not arise on
other platforms.

I found that this error has been reported as Forte' 3.0.M.2 Defect 53194.
Is there anybody who encountered the same problems? Do you have any suggestions
to solve it?
Any workaround?
Thanks in advance

____________________________________I have the same problem. I am not able to write to my external drives when I wake my computer (I can read from them though). I get the same message as you do. My only solution is to force eject my drive and reconnect it. I am not sure if this is related to Mavericks but this did not happen before. Anybody else experiencing this or have a better solution?

ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure -
I m performing the data refresh activity. I had taken the backup(database backup through filesystem) and restored the same in the new target system. My target system is an freshly installed SAP system where I m replicating the data of PRD.
I had done the restoration successfully and also had created successfully the control file. But when i try command as
"alter database open resetlogs;" it gives error as alter database open resetlogs

We modified the command later as " recover database using backup controlfile until cancel;"for which it asked for AUTO Cancel etc. where we gave an option of CANCEL.
After completing the process we gave command as "alter database open resetlogs;"
For which we got an err in trace file as mentioned below:

Unable to open database -
I'm compiling a project in JBuilder, but I keep getting this error:
"Frame1.java": Error #: 704 : cannot access directory com\borland\jbcl\layout at line 23, column 1"
I have know idea how to fix it... any suggestionshi, hope this helps
surely you have import to com.borland.jbcl.layout in your class, but in the properties of your project you do not have like required libraries ' JBCL' which contains the classes of jbuilder of borland
in order to eliminate that message of error when compiling, remove the import, or adds 'JBCL' to your project required libraries -
Unable to open 11g R2 database now after trying an RMAN restore
Hi my database is not opening now.
What I was trying was to restore the database on my new server from latest database taken from my old live server and applying it on my new 11g DB (new server-database already created)
old server-11.1.0.7.0-windows 2003 server 32 bit
new server-11.2.0.3.0-windows 2008 64 bit server
The steps i have done which caused this , (After everything was working fine, i did these foll.steps and now all messed up):
The oracle database on this new server was already 11.2.3.0 -it was not upgrade, i directly installed 11.2.0.3.0 on it + applied latest patches etc.
I took RMAN backup from old server 11.1.0.7.0 oracle database.
Copied this backup to to the new server flash recovery area &every step of the restore was working fine -
in nomount mode, restored the control file from autobackup-fine
in mount mode, catalogued the files-fine (Backup from old live, copied to new live)
I restored&Recovered the database until the latest archivelogs.
Until the above steps-all worked fine like a normal recovery steps.
Then I gave "alter database open resetlogs" in RMAN prompt, it gave out error and from that point onwards I am unable to open the database now.
Unfortunately, couldnt grab full screenshot of the error in RMAN but the error basically said that bootstrap failed and i have to open the database with the upgrade option?
Please see in alert log as well

[/code]This is why you do backups both before and after doing other things.
So one way to do something like this:
Backup old db.
expdp old db.
Install new 11gR2, create database.
Back it up.
Turn off archivelog.
impdp
Turn on archivelog.
Back it up.
The general thought here is you would start over with the first new db backup if the imp didn't work, you turn off archiving to avoid generating lots of redo that would be for a recovery you would never do.
There is more than one way to do it (TIMTOWTDI), best way depends on details, including volume of data and platform changes. expdp/impdp has an over the network option if disk space is limited and network is fast.
I usually allow for several tries when going to a new box, since the new box will require testing anyways. -
Problems upgrading from LMS 3.0 to LMS 3.2 - the backup fails.
I'm upgrading from LMS 3.0 to LMS 3.2 on Solaris. I've met all of the prereq's, patches, etc. It keeps failing on the Backup...It claims I need 15 Gig for the backup. The backup directory I'm using (/opt/backup) has 35 Gig free, so that shouldn't be the issue.
Here is the error I'm seeing in the backup.log;

okcwsi:
I've tried this multiple times and each time it appears to fail on a different file/folder in the sw_images directory. This is our FTP directory where we store lots of IOS images for download. I've removed each of these files it errors out on and it keeps failing. I just removed all files from the sw_images folder and am trying the backup again now.
I'm attaching the backup.log which contains the failure information for each backup I've tried in the past two days.
My main question is...can I skip this backup somehow? I've got another LMS 3.0 system that I can export everything I need from. Skipping the backup isn't an option on the install/upgrade? It gives me the option to quit the install or try the backup again.
Thanks,You can skip the backup with a hidden option:
./setup.sh -b nobackup
However, I wouldn't feel comfortable until figuring out why the backup has been failing, ostensibly because tar is running into the 255-char limit (100 for the filename and 155 for the path), a result of the many iterations of the following:
sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/ -

MarcosHi..
As you have applied patch, did you try to open the database as
sql> startup upgrade.
There musy be some files that needs to be run.
Better read the README.HTML of the patch and follow the steps.
If eveythig is done correctly and then also ORA-600 persist better raise SR to Oracle Support.
For ORA-600 you can refer to metalink Doc ID: 356537.1

Hi,
10.2.0.4 on AIX 6.1 64bits.
When startup (with pfile or startup without pfile) it fails asking startup with upgrade option and when start with upgrade , catupgrd.sql failes with ORA-20000: Upgrade not supported from version , which on Metalink it is said to go back to minimum version (10.2.0.1).
Any idea ? Thanks.

imp system@mydb IGNORE=Y fromuser=origschema touser=sysadm file=/data01/somefile.exp Log=my_imp.logThank you.
