Error in converting doc to pdf file

I have a doc file - 53100kB word 2007, 180 pages with text and images. When converting to pdf with AdobePdf, it breaks after 99 pages. I got a message MicrosoftOfficeWord encountred a problem and has to close. Don't have the error report (my mistake)
Try converting from 102 to last page, it breaks after 28 pages, in log file i have the message:
%%{ProductName: Distiller }%%

%%{Page: 28}%%
%%{ Error: typecheck: offendingCommand: not }%%

What to do next to make a continuous conversion?
Thank you.

Gloria Mc,
This occurs with all .doc, Excel, .rtf, .txt (even when trying to print .pdf from a txt software like notepad. It does not occur with picture format files like .jpg or .tiff. I also can combine .pdf files.
As far as JR's question, if I generate a .prn file and drop it in AcroDist (Distiller), it tries to open Distiller and the same error message comes up.
All other functions of AA7 seem to work, only when trying to convert document files to .pdf is there a problem.
If I try to bring up Distiller by itself (no file), the same error occurs.
I'm still willing to try any suggestions. Thanks for your interest.

    This problem has started suddenly.
When converting *.doc to *.pdf a window titled AcroDist.exe-Application Error comes up:
"0x00441ae2" referenced memory at "0x0218ebbc". The memory could not be "read".
Acrobat stops and can only be stopped from the Task Manager. Try to print something in *.pdf -- same thing happens.
Anyone, any suggestions? I would be thankful.

  • Fatal error while converting doc to pdf

While Adobe Acrobat 7.09 converted a rather simple (albeit long) Word 2003 document, I received the following fatal error message during the "Processing for Tag Information" stage of Acrobat PDFMaker.
    MS Visual C++ Debug Library
    Program: WINWORD.EXE
    Module:Reader For RTF.smrd
    File: <blank>
Run-Time Check Failure #3 - The variable bNewRowExpectedBeforeFootNote is being used without being defined
    Abort Retry Ignore
    "Retry" dumps both applications.
"Ignore" re-displays the error, each time with other variables; "iTableLeftBeforeFootNote",
    "iTableGapBeforeFootNote",
    "bFirstElementSentBeforeFootNote",
    "bRowHeightBeforeFootNote"
and then continues processing, until this same cycle repeats itself several more times before the "Processing for Tag Information" finally completes.
If the error is "IGNORED" enough, the conversion will complete. However I have not assessed the resulting pdf for usability.

From what I understand of tagging, it just provides markup in the PDF to indicate where WORD put a paragraph or other format aspect. Thus the saving back to a WORD file is easier. Other than that, I do not think that tags are used for much, except possibly accessibility. I usually just print to the Adobe PDF printer for my needs, but I do not have links and such that are critical for transfer to the PDF. The thing to remember is that tags really bloat the PDF, and you just do not have the memory to deal with that. Unless tagging or other PDF Maker features are important to your need, then it may be best to turn them off. One thing I would suggest leaving in is the embedding of all fonts as subsets.
Don't know that I helped much or even got it all correct, but maybe that is what you wanted to know. Bill

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 plus I create PDF files for work some are scan pdf docs. When I install Photoshop Elements 10 it DOES convert all the PDF files to Photoshop Elements-10 Docs. it even changes and shows the PSE-10 Icon. So I am alway installing PSE-10 or uninstalling it. If I send the  PDF file that has been automatically converted to a PSE-10 the person I send the file to can not open it because they do not have PSE-10. What can I do to stop PSE-10 from converting my PDF files? Don't tell me to upgrade PSE-10 I tried their on-line program and  it is too advance for a hobby photographer like myself and their Help Desk is impossible to reach.

  • Convert doc to PDF and make it available for workspace

    Hi,
is there a way, how to convert a doc file to PDF file and make it available for the workspace (accept - deny scenario)?
Lets say, that I have a contract that has to be approved by my manager. I convert the doc to PDF file and send it to his to-do queue. He than decides if it is a good agreement or bad one.
I see couple of tricks in this. First, the converted file needs to have process fields included, so it has to be a form.
Converted file is a flat PDF. I tried to use DDX to merge flat PDF and form with process fields, however that throwed and error.
Workaround could be creating an envelope saying, hey, look in the attachments section, there is something you need to review.
I can create an attachment in the form with DDX code, however only in the DDX UI interface, for some reason, it wont work in the process in LC.
Also, I have difficulties with routes after user hits the accept, deny buttons in workspace, nothing happens :-(
Could you please give me some advices, what kind of variables I need, what types they should be and how the process should looklike? I want to invoke it over the WSDL so at least one document has to be passed over it. The envelope can be in the resources section in LC (makes sense, but I do not know how to address it in the DDX and afterwards)
    Thanks in advance,
    H.

    Hi Jasmin,
I can add the converted document to PDF as a attachment to the XDP form in the workspace.
I am strugling now with that envelope (the XDP), cant render it to PDF and than workspace enable it. I will have a look around the web because it will be there. One question is can I control permitions on the attachment? I want just read only permitions.
Thanks Jasmin for your continuous help.

I did try a few docs I found on the internet, snee.com/xml/xslt/sample.doc.included, and got the same error as OP or
    $ unoconv -f pdf s.doc
    unoconv: UnoException during import phase:
The document 'file:///home/karol/test/sample.doc' could not be opened.
I just run 'pacman -S unoconv' and it wasn't untill I installed libreoffice-writer that it worked.
Opening the doc in lowriter and exporting it to a pdf from the menu works too.

  • Hyperlinks to XLS, DOC, and PDF files that are included in a .chm file work intermittently.

    SUMMARY
Hyperlinks to XLS, DOC, and PDF files that are included in a
.chm file (and the Baggage Files) only work intermittently. The
only solution appears to be deleting the Temporary Internet Files.
    PROBLEM
    1. I place the XLS, DOC, or PDF file in the Windows
sub-directory that corresponds to the RoboHelp project sub-folder
where the topic in which I’ll place the hyperlink exists.
    2. I open the help project in RoboHelp HTML.
    3. I right-click on the project’s Baggage Files
sub-folder that corresponds to the Windows sub-directory in which I
placed the XLS, DOC, or PDF file (in step 1).
    4. I import the XLS, DOC, or PDF file.
    5. I open the topic in which I’m going to place the
    hyperlink in the WYSIWYG editor.
    6. I “drag and drop” the Baggage File into the
topic (in the WYSIWYG editor) to create a link to it.
    7. I save the changes and then generate HTML (.chm) help.
    8. I open the .chm file and click the hyperlink. The XLS,
DOC, or PDF file may or may not open.
    9. When the hyperlink works correctly, for DOC and XLS files,
a “File Download – Security Warning” dialog box
appears asking, “Do you want to open or save this
file?”. The buttons that are available are
    “Open”, “Save”, and “Cancel”.
These buttons work then as one would expect. (When the hyperlink
works correctly for a PDF file, it simply opens the PDF file in a
new window; there’s no prompt to save, open, or cancel.)
    10. When a hyperlink does NOT work, for DOC, XLS, and PDF
files, no dialog box or other visual message is displayed. Instead,
the sound that is associated with the “Exclamation”
program event is played (the “Windows XP
Exclamation.wav” file is the WinXP default).
    Other Notes:
    - The hyperlinks ALWAYS work when I view a topic using the
“View Selected Item” function (Ctrl+W) in the RoboHelp
    HTML project.
    - Once a hyperlink stops working, it will not start working
again until I delete all the Temporary Internet Files.
    - A hyperlink will stop working even if Internet Explorer
(iexplore.exe) is closed the entire time.
    WORKAROUND
Through trial and error, I have discovered that if a
hyperlink stops working, I can get it to work again using the
    following steps:
    1. Leave the .chm file open.
    2. Open Internet Explorer.
    3. Click Tools>Internet Options….
    4. From the “Internet Options” dialog box, select
    the “General” tab.
    5. Under the “Temporary Internet Files” section,
    click the “Delete Files…” button.
    6. From the “Delete Files” dialog box, select
“Delete all offline content” and then click
“OK”. The files are deleted and the “Delete
    Files” dialog box closes.
    7. Click “OK” to close the “Internet
    Options” dialog box.
    8. Without closing Internet Explorer and without re-starting
the .chm file, all the hyperlinks that didn’t work before
    will now work.
    GENERAL SYSTEM INFORMATION
    - Windows XP Pro, SP2

    - An XLS or DOC file will be listed here if I click its
hyperlink and then click either “Open” or
“Save” from the “File Download – Security
    Warning” dialog box.
    - A file will appear here even if I click “Save”
and then click “Cancel” from the subsequent “Save
    As” dialog box.
    - If I click “Cancel” from the “File
Download – Security Warning” dialog box, the file does
not appear in the Temporary Internet Files folder.
    - When a file does appear in the Temporary Internet Files
folder, its Internet Address is displayed similar to the following:
    “ms-its:C:\PrimaryProjectFolder\ProjectName.chm::/SubFolderName/FileName.xls”
    “View Objects…”
Here’s a list of all the program files that appear:
    - “Microsoft Office Template and Media Control”
    (Last Accessed 12/13/06) (Version 12,0,6024,0)
    - “Shockwave ActiveX Control” (Last Accessed

    - “Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool”

    - “WUWebControl Class” (Last Accessed 12/13/06)
    (Version 5,8,0,2469)
Today is 12/18/06 so the only program file that is listed as
having been “Last Accessed” today is the
    “Shockwave Flash Object”.
    REQUEST FOR HELP
I really want to include certain PDF, DOC, and XLS files in
their native format in a .chm file. However, I need a better
solution to my problem than the one I discovered. What I really
want is to avoid the entire problem altogether.
Have anyone seen this before or have any suggestions?

You wont be able to do that. The embedded objects would appear as images only.

  • Problem while converting doc to PDF

Hi - When tried to convert a doc file to PDF, it introduced spaces between word characters in the result PDF file.
For e.g. "Project" became "Pro    ject"

Can somebody please help me to understand why conversion from doc to PDF file introduces spaces in between? Is this an existing bug in Adobe?

Well, the ability to convert the pdf to html and then to PDF is a worthy solution.
10,000 emails would require a batch convert solution.
This is very much beyond what I know. I'll have to leave this to better minds.
I could suggest a third party tool. Have a look at this:
    http://a-pdf.com/faq/can-i-split-pdf-file-with-nonstandard-page-size.htm
Other than that,I can't think of anything else.

Just by googling i came to know that CreatePDF2 Service will do this Conversion ! But it throws me an Exception like "Conversion Exception :" Cannot connect to Adobe Service "...!

you don't know the format of a word doc? well, that's good for you because it's a nightmare.
    - check POI (http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/index.html) to see if you can load-up the .doc then generate the .pdf with iText
    - personally i use the Open Office Bean to open the .doc, i save it in .sxw (OO format which is a jar of different XML files), then i use XSLT to transform content.xml in .fo then use FOP to build the PDF. sounds crazy but works fine (only on a machine with graphic support - not via Telnet, etc...)

Nothing has been converted. You first need to convince yourself of this.
Start Adobe Reader (or Adobe Acrobat, if you have it). Use Open from the File menu. Pick one of your PDF files. Does it open OK? If not, what happens?

How convert a color PDF File to black & white (gray scale...no color)??? creative cloud cs6... Acrobat etc

Hi, just wanted to add my 2¢
I've been in publishing over 25 years and live in Acrobat for making my final files. Currently with a newspaper.
    This is what we do:
    • Tool Panes > Print Production Window
    • Select CONVERT COLORS
    • Midway down under OUTPUT INTENT, check Convert Colors to Output Intent
    • In the associated drop down menu, I choose (because I'm printing on newsprint) DOT GAIN 20% – If you're working on better stock, choose a lower dot gain percentage.
    • Click OK – this will convert the file
    • Save
Note: this affects the file you're working with. Make sure that you use this method on a COPY if you want to retain the original color version.
I think if you compare my method to the Preflight method, you'll see a tighter contrast and better blacks. I've always felt the Preflight method left continuous tones a little muddy.
Now if there was only a way to add that to ACTIONS...!
