  • Management Services and Repository pending state?

I just rebuilt the repository for my EMGC(10.1.0) and everything is working fine except under unknown availability in the alert tab I have the entry "Management Services and Repository" - "Target is Temporarily in status pending state. Does anyone know what or how to get this out of the pending state? I shutdown EMGC and restarted it. I have rebooted the box, nothing seems to fix it, it has been this way for 4 days now.

  • Grid Control : Change Management Across Non-Prod and Prod

    All,
I had some questions with regards to Grid Control Implementation Architechture on Prod and Non-Prod Env's
The best practice is to configure a production Grid Control (GC) environment to monitor only production targets. This prevents nonproduction targets from adversely impacting a production environment.Another issue could be the compliance policy where in the production systems are to be isolated from Non-Production Environments.
If this is the case then we have to have 2 GC environments , 1 for Prod and 1 for Non-Prod. In such a scenario how well can we do change management (Version control ) across the Non-Prod and Prod Environments ?
    To be more specific
How is version control managed for Oracle builds if we have separate GC for Prod and Non-PROD? (Change Management pack / Configuration Management Packs are there but what is the real depth of these? )
Change management for the Oracle Environments from DEV -> Test -> Pre-Production-> Production? We aim to have consist build across the environments can we achieve this if the GC is managed by Different OMS/OMR and if we have 2 separate environments how do we sync the GC environments managing PROD/NON-PROD after a change?

This is feature is not there in 10.2
This situation can be avoid by chagning the 9i port to 1522
or install the GC on diffrent box

  • EM10gR2 Grid Control / Change Management Pack does not support TYPE objects

I wonder any Oracle EM10gR2 Grid Control users, implementing Oracle Change Management Pack, have used it for the release and proper packages management.
Issue1 - On an EM console / Web GUI the DDL comparison and synchronization is not supported at all. Implementing it @ customer it appeared that we have to install a 10g Java Client in order to use the code comparison and sync functionalities.
Issue2 - and this is more serious - it appears that even with Java client in use, you cannot compare or sync objects related to TYPE or TYPE BODY data types. The comparison simply hangs.
Asked help from support, they mentioned an ER from 8i and logged a new ER for 10g/11g. That is surprising especially as the doc (http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A96679_01/toc.htm) about code comparison does not exclude the TYPE objects from the supported options.
Any fellow DBA running to a same problem? What solutions & recommendations might you have?

    Hi Mugunthan,
Can you provide links to any tutorial or example (screenshots) of using Setup Manager to transfer something between two environments (say Users or DFFs)?
    Thanks,

  • How does Grid Control Application Management Pack (AMP) discover targets?

I have Grid Control 10.2.0.4 install and am trying to discover Oracle 11i applications. I have the white paper explaining how Grid Control discovers databases, listeners, application servers, etc. But I am not able to find a paper that tells how the Application Manager discovers the Oracle applications. Does anyone know of such a paper or which perl scripts are run?

One of the biggest problems I have run into when doing these discoveries is that the agent and iAS and/or Oracle are owned by different users and the agent does not have permissions to read the configuration files.
You situation may be a bit different.
If the host is real busy, it sometimes takes a long time to load the gathered information into the repository. From looking at your log file, this may be your issue.
How busy is the server(s) and database for you OMS and OEM database?

  • Setting Users for my managed services and application pools

I setup my SharePoint 2013 test environment and I developed an intranet site. Now inside my test environment I set all the application pool & managed services to use Farm user account for simplicity. Now I want to setup my UAT environment and I want
to follow the best practice for managing users and service accounts.
I have read the “Core Solutions Of MS SharePoint 2013” book, and it have listed the following table:-
First question. What is the difference when saying that the user “Must be a member of the Farm Administrators group” Or must be “Domain user account”?
Second question , when I first install SharePoint 2013 a lot of applications pools and managed services such as excel services , access services, Performance Point Service Application, business
data connectivity and Machine Translation Service  will be automatically created , so which account they will be using and should I define separate accounts for each managed service ?
Third question. What is the recommendation for SharePoint 2013 regarding service accounts?, to use separate account for each manage service, for example one user for excel services , second user
    for access services ,etc?
Fourth question. For example the documentation mentioned that the Required roles for the excel services is “Domain user account.”, but what permissions this domain user need to have ?
thanks for any help, and sorry so adding multiple questions inside the same post.

Q #1: This means the user must be part of the Farm Admins group. Every user is a Domain User.
Q #2: Generally those should be using a single Domain User account in a single Application Pool to minimize memory usage and reduce unnecessary complexity.
Q #3: The less Application Pools the better. E.g. One account/App Pool for all Web Applications, one account/App Pool for all Service Applications, and then Central Administration is obviously separate.
Q #4: You don't need to specifically give this type of user any sort of rights

  • Data Guard, Grid Control 11, GI 11gR2, and DB 10gR2

    Hi,
I'm seeing a rather odd behavior, and I'm hoping someone else has already been through this and knows what I'm doing wrong.
I have an installation of Grid Control 11.1 (recently patched) which I am using to create Data Guard replication of some 10gR2 database instances. For some confusing reason, sometimes when I use the GC wizard to add the standby database, it creates the listener for the new database in the EM Agent's OH/network/admin/listener.ora. Other times, it creates it in the 10gR2 DB's OH/network/admin/listener.ora. When it does the former, creation of the standby DB seems to work fine, but when it does the latter, not so much.
If it matters, my primary DB is 10.2.0.4 on 10.2 grid infrastructure, and my standbys are 10.2.0.4 on GI 11.2.0.2.
I have applied the latest PSU to my agents, so they are all the same version, so I'm confused as to why this might be happening. Has anyone else seen this issue?
    Thanks,
    Bill

My recommendation would be to not use OEM Grid Control to create your standby.
Even when it is working properly ... it does not create what I would consider a good implementation. Just as I don't consider the vanilla installation of the Oracle database by the OUI (all control files and redo logs in the same directory with the datafiles) very good.
You'd be far better off hand crafting your standby using two listeners ... one for public and one for replication.

  • GCS on grid control graph is high and write data slowly

We writed more data to Oracle RAC 10.2 + ASM on Redhat.
It's slowly. When we check grap on Grid Control, we found high stat on "Global Cache Block Access Latency".
How can I tune or investigate?
    ###remark
Oracle Cluster 4 nodes (10.2 + ASM on redhat 4)
interconnect CAT 6 (1G) and use bonding

Just to be certain, how slow and which part of the Global Cache component:
AWR Report threshholds are (lower boundary - typical - upper boundary)
    Avg time to process cr block request 0.1 - 1 - 10
    Avg Global Cache cr block receive times 0.3 - 4 - 12
    Avg time to process current block request 0.1 - 3 - 23
    Avg Global cache current block receive time 0.3 - 8 - 30
You might be losing blocks? I have a link to this article...
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/real_application_clusters_rac_grid/cache_stats.htm
I modified the query found at the link above for more nodes:
    SELECT A.INST_ID "Node ID",
(select B.VALUE from GV$SYSSTAT B where B.inst_ID=A.INST_ID and B.NAME='gc blocks lost') "GC BLOCKS LOST",
(select C.VALUE from GV$SYSSTAT C where C.inst_ID=A.INST_ID and C.NAME='gc blocks corrupt') "GC BLOCKS CORRUPT"
    FROM GV$SYSSTAT A
    group by A.INST_ID
    order by 1;
Each should come back zero or close to zero. If it doesn't then check with your Linux admins to tune to the interface settings. A tuning link is also in the above URL.

  • Does EM 12.1.0.3 support Oracle DB 12c as managed target and repository database?

Oracle released EM cloud control 12.1.0.3 last week.  The certification matrix on My Oracle Support does not list Oracle database 12c as a supported managed target or repository database.  Is the cert matrix wrong, or does Oracle have no version of cloud control that supports the 12c database?
    Thanks

Oracle database 12c is supported as a managed target - but not as repository. MOS is being updated to reflect this shortly.

  • Regarding Oracle 10g Grid Control Enterprise Manager

    Hi Friends,
    the file at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/winsoft10g.html
Named B30800-01.zip is having a problem.
As I had downloaded the file with the (download manager and Directly also), but after downloading file size is been matching and there was no error with the download of the file.
    Downloaded File Size = 1729778063 Jul 13 07:44 b30800_0.zip
But at the time of getting extract the file has been given many errors.
Can anyone tell me what should I do?
As I had tried to send a mail with extraction report to Oracle Corporation email id but I got a failure Delivery.
Can anyone give me the email id of oracle corporation where I can get some help from Oracle Corporation.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards,
    Bhavik Fuletra

    Hi,
    Dear lavaprasadkafle,
Size and size on disk usually differs
The Size is the real size of the file,
The file system stores data in clusters of certain size (Usually 4k bytes in NTFS, 8k or 16k in FAT32), so if you have a file with size 250 bytes on NTFS 4k, Size on disk will be 4 k (4096 bytes), with FAT32 at cluster size 16, the size on disk will be 16384 bytes!
For the file you mentioned, I guess that it is stored on FAT32 partition with 16k cluster size, just calculate it as previously done, you will find where 11889 bytes came from.
On the other hand, to make sure that the zip file is downloaded correctly, just open and test it with any archive tool that have test. or you can use MD5 or any other hashing check.
    Regards

  • Unable to see database in Grid Control

I installed Grid Control 10g and started both OMS service and agent. I also installed another agent on a different host. When I run macux3:1830/emd/main (this is where I installed the Grid Control) and macux4:1830/emd/main (this is where my production database is running), I am getting
    EMAgent10.1.0.2.0
    Congratulations, EMAgent is working!
But when I try to click on the Targets tab in Grid Control and from Targets tab click on the Database tab, I am not seeing my production database.
Would you please let me know If I am missing something here?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mustafa

    Mustafa,
check the agent home page, starting from the Grid Control homepage it is to be found under Management System ==> Management Services and Repository ==> Agents . On the Agents page you should see your installed agents, hopefully up and running. If you click on a agent tab, immediately the agent tries to communicate with the OMS.
If the communication is successfully established, a list of all observerd targets, including databases , is shown. If all this happens, on principle the communication works.
Additionally, check the account status of dbsnmp and sysman, they must be unlocked.
select username,account_status from dba_users where username in ('DBSNMP','SYSMAN'); must result in
    USERNAME ACCOUNT_STATUS
    DBSNMP OPEN
    SYSMAN OPEN
Normally the status should be open, if necessary you have to change it:
    alter user <username> account unlock;

  • Why 12C Grid Control shows Target status down/Unavailable?

    Hello,
The grid control 12.0.2 on Oracle Linux 5.9 shows that status of target /EMGC_GCDomain/GCDomain/EMGC_ADMINSERVER as down where as it is up and running and I can log into admin console.
Please note that repository, OMS, weblogic all components are on same server.
It is also showing that following are unreachable where as these are up on same server
    EM Website System
    Management Services and Repository
How can I diagnose and fix this? Where to start?
    Thanks.

Have you checked the agent status with emctl status agent? Is the OMS available there and when was the last upload time?
You can also try emctl upload agent and see if this helps.
Is the dbsnmp account unlocked with correct password in the target database?

  • How to delete a management agent from grid control completely?

I have installed oem grid control 10.2.0.4.0 on single host(oemlinux.oracle.com), and I removed agent10g, and reinstall a new management agent into a new location, but when I wanted to add a weblogic server to monitor, I got error as below:
More than one Enterprise Manager Agent was found for the host.oemlinux.oracle.com
I found there were 2 agents in em console, how to delete the old agent from em console, anybody can help me?

Click on the All targets tab, delete the agent.
Then confirm that the delete is in fact happening.
Click Setup, Management & Services Repository tab.
    Deleted Targets link.
Time Deleted Completed must have a date in there...
If all that fails - do a quick search - I posted the sql you can run against the repository to wipe it clean of an agent :-)
Not too that if you are removing the O/S software - you need to use the runinstaller to remove the Oracle Home from the inventory.
If you don't do this - future auto installs using the agentDownload script of the agent will fail.

  • Installing 10g and Grid control together on Windows Server 2003

    Hi all,
I've been having some trouble installing both the Grid Control and Oracle 10g together on a Windows Server 2003 box.
Here's the steps I've followed (if im stepping away from the norm, please tell me.. i REALLY need to do this properly without any hacks.. right now im on a test box.. but soon enough I have to do it in a live production environment and I really need a clean install).
I had a copy of Oracle 9i installed - my databases are pretty small.. 1.5Gb at most and I have been advised to just do an export and import them back in later.. which is fine by me..
I uninstalled Oracle 9i, making sure to check all the environment variables were clear and the registry settings were gone.
I ran the grid control setup
    Set Home name = Ora10gGC
    Set home path = C:\Oracle\Ora10gGC
I selected Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Using a New database 10.1.3.0
I set my passwords, and then set the global database name as emrep (the default)
All the optional configuration assistants ran successfull
Once this was all done and the install was finished, I restarted the server
Then I inserted the Oracle 10g cd
    I ran 10g setup
    Click Advanced installation
    Set home name = Ora10g
    Set home path = C:\Oracle\Ora10g
    I selected Enterprise edition
    Selected General purpose database
    I got the following message:
The ORACLE_HOME environment variable is current set. This will prevent proper use of Multiple Oracle Homes and since it is not required for any Oracle products to function, it will be unset in your environment.
I set the global database name on my starter database to STARTER, I selected Use Grid Control for Database Management and set my paths and passwords, then I clicked install.
The install worked up till it tried to create the starter database, then it failed with an ORA-12560 error.
I checked the environment variables and it seems that ORACLE_HOME wasn't unset after all. I deleted it from my environment variables and restarted the server, but I still get the ORA-12560 error when i try to create a new database.
I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to install these 2 products together properly.. Thanks!

I suggest you to read Metalink Note:344537.1 "Installing EM 10g Grid Control Fails to Start the TNSListener Due to Environment Settings"
Additionaly could you post the fragment from alert.log and listener.log files, so more diagnostic information can be provided on this issue.
