  • Error when starting Discoverer on IAS 10g

The installation of an IAS 10g (9.0.4)(on Linux, SUSE SLES9) succeded without an error. The different services (Forms, Reports, Discoverer ...) are running (green).
Starting Discoverer Plus we get the error "CORBA-Protocol: Connecting to .. OSAgent was not sucessful".
We installed a second IAS-Farm on different hardware and got the same error. We deployed path 9.0.4.1, but nothing changed.
We have already installed several IAS 10g in SLES8 without any problems.
We check serveral things without getting any further idea what is wrong.
    Thanks for any information/help

see if there is a process on your machine called OSAgent or dis51pr or dis51ws. It seems like the discoverer corba components aren't started properly. If you run 'opmnctl status' from the command line it should show you whether they are up or down as well.

    Hi,
I just upgraded my Discoverer to 9.0.2.54.01. I can successfully access my Discoverer Viewer Workbooks but not my Discoverer Plus. When I try to access Plus, Applet will be started, and then it will prompt the RMI protocol error:

    I used browsers Mozilla3.0.5 and IE7.
    Thanks!

    Hi Andy
It could be a Java incompatibility issue. On one of your client machines try removing Java altogether and then reconnecting to Discoverer Plus. The server should send down a new, clean version of the Java.
Try this and let me know how you get on

  • Error when starting Discoverer 3i

I have installed Discoverer 3i on NT 4.0 Client with SP5. It is a single server install.
When user starts Discoverer 3i he gets the following error message:
Unable connect to the Oracle Discoverer Application Server. oracle/discoverer/corba/_st_DCILocator
I have followed all installation instructions and post install steps.
    Please help!!!
    Regards,

    Hi Aydin,
Thank you very much for your replay!
    1. I have installed User Edition 3i. This is a single server installation. Oracle Application server 4.0.8.1 is my HTTP server.
    2. Discoverer process OracleDiscoverer3i is running. I have tnsnames.ora file that points to Oracle 8.1.6 database installed on Sun server. I would like to connect to EUL account, previously created, using user_name/password and database descriptor.
I have used SQL*Plus to verify that connection is there.
I have specified "Discover" and a name of my defaultEUL in pref.txt file, and then I have updated Preferences.
Now, when I pointing IE 5 browser to Discoverer 3i startup page from the same NT Client where I have previously installed all Discoverer 3i components, I am getting more detailed message, which is:
SessionConnectionException: Failed to connect to session Disk1OracleDiscovererSession3.3 using OSAgent.org.omg.CORBA.BAD_PARAM:
    CompletionStatus=No, minor=0
I tried to click OK to this error message and then go to Discoverer3i and connect to a database using user/password, db descriptor. The same error message will appear.
I have checked Tack Manager and found that all Discoverer3i related processes are running there:
    Dis33srv.exe
    Osagent.exe
    Oad.exe
    DIS33PR.exe
It seems to me that by now I have existed all available ways to fix this problem,
So I will really appreciate your help Aydin! I prepare a presentation for my client to convince them to use Discoverer as their standard browser. It would be very nice if I can fix this problem by then.
    Best regards,
    Sergei

  • Error connecting in Discoverer Plus/Viewer 10.1.2

I'm triying to connect to Discoverer Plus or Viewer. When I get to the login screen, fill all the required fields, but I got the following message: "The application encountered an invalid state.

When I run the checkdiscoverer. It works ok in all the checks except for: "Error: Failed to bind to Discoverer Server.
Hint: Try increasing the timeout by changing the timeout value in opmn.xml.". As the hint said I increased the start timeout, I got it up to 3500 and even incresed the minprocs to see if that helped. Nothing worked.
I'm testing this in a Windows XP Pro SP2 installed 1GB Ram. I Installed the BI Tools, App server but no infrastructure. The Installation process finished without any problems, except for a warning regarding not being able to determine the IP address. I can access all the options of the app server.

You could try editing your HOSTS file and inserting a line in there to associate the IP with the domain. To do this, follow this workflow:
    1. Right click on Windows Start button and from pop upmenu select Explore

6 Save the HOSTS file and exit Explorer
This associates the IP with the server name.

    Hi
But Desktop is not the product that you reported the error on, you said that Plus was giving you the problem.
Desktop generally has far fewer issues that Plus because it is a client-based tool and I would expect it to work fine in Desktop.
Have you ever had 9.0.2 Plus working as you describe or have you recently installed it? Either way, I strongly recommend upgrading your Discoverer Plus to the version in my previous reply.
By the way, I think you will find that most people rapidly got off 9.0.2 as soon as 9.0.4 came out which was 10g Release 1. If you look on my blog: http://learndiscoverer.blogspot.com/ you will see a couple of surveys that were conducted earlier this year. The top one indicates that only 4% of Discoverer sites are using 9.0.2. Of those I would suggest most will be on the 54 release which really was quite stable.
You will fnd it really hard to get help if you stay on the 39 release because there are so few folks around who have it installed.
    Best wishes

  • Discoverer plus initialisation error

    Hi!
When I try to launch Discover Plus I get the following error:
"Unable to connect to Oracle Discoverer Application Server
Attempt1: RMI Protocol over http transport:
    Incorrect response from (server name)"
We initially thought that this was a firewall issue, but it's not.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Martin

    Hi,
I've only ever heard of this problem with Discoverer Plus, as it's only Disco Plus that uses 'RMI protocol over JRMP Transport', which is a way for the Discoverer Plus applet to communicate with the server. Anyway, the solution as given by Oracle at http://otn.oracle.com/products/discoverer/htdocs/hints/htm/plus_Connect.htm is:-
"If you’re using Internet Explorer and try to establish a Discoverer plus 9.0.2.39.1 session, and you may encounter this error on some workstations:
“Unable to connect to the Oracle Discoverer Application Server: RMI protocol over JRMP transport: incorrect response from from servlet at http://yourmachinename.com:7778/discoverer/plus”
If the answer to either of the following questions is 'yes', then this document may help you correct your environment.
    Can you connect using Netscape?
Can you connect from other workstations?
    Solution:
Check your web listener error_log. In unix environments it is found in [ORACLE_HOME] /product/ias902/Apache/Apache/logs - filename: error_log.
Use “tail -f error_log” to view the contents of the error_log file.
If the server error_log contains “[OSSO] Warning: Failed to decrypt OHS_ID cookie value. Bailing ...”, then it is possible that cookies are being stored in the browser (not intended), whereas the cookies in question are designed to be non-persistent. To rectify this do as follows.
    · Enter Start -> settings -> Control Panel -> Internet options -> General -> Temporay Internet Files -> Settings – View Files
    or
    · [Driveletter]:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Cookies
Delete all Cookie files from ias server and sso server.
    For Example:
    Name
    Internet Address
    [email protected]
    Cookie:[email protected]/
    discoverer
    Cookie:[email protected]/discoverer
You can search for cookie files by using * wildcards i.e. *servername*, or anonymized:
    Name
    Internet Address
    [username]@servername.domainname
    Cookie:[username]@servername.domainname/
    discoverer
    Cookie:[username]@servername.domainname/discoverer
After cookie files have been deleted, please reboot your workstation and reconnect to Discoverer Plus. Now it should work."
    hope this helps

  • Discoverer Plus connection error

    Hi all,
I installed the Oracle Business Intelligence and its Tools and I created BI_ADMIN for EUL in Discoverer Administrator. But I get the following error when I connect to Discoverer Plus:
The application encountered an invalid state.
    - - Nested exception: org.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE: vmcid: SUN minor code: 201 completed: No
OracleBI Discoverer Viewer was unable to find the necessary data for displaying the results of this event. Please correct any errors and try again.
Please guide me for solving this error.
    Thanks

    Hi
To follow up on the link posted by CD, summarized here:
"The Discoverer network connection configuration uses a DHCP server to get its IP address. In the insallation instructions for the Application Server it suggests using a Microsoft Loopback Adapter and add a line in the HOSTS file to map the host name with the loopback IP.
This procedure appears to work fine with Discoverer 9.0.4, but doesn't always work with Discoverer 10.1.2
The workaround then is to try assigning a static IP to the server and uninstall the loopback adapter. With a static IP most of these connection errors should go away."
I would also add that you have to make sure that a fully qualified domain name is used on the server. If you have already installed Discoverer without a fully qualified domain name you will probably have to wipe the installation and start again.
