Hi,
I keep getting an error message "-48 - library can't be saved" when I open up itunes - anyone have any tips? any thoughts v v gratefully received!

I'm having this same problem. In my case the library file is on my main internal hard drive, but is partitioned to the e: logical drive. Permission should not be a problem.

My iTunes today is showing the message: The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error ocurred (-54)

I've been having this same issue on and off when refreshing my podcast feeds for the past couple of months.  It seemed to coincide with turning the Genius on, and I thought that maybe they Genius was trying to use the file the same time I was updating podcasts, and maybe they were conflicting.  I turned Genius off, but that didn't seem to help.
I saw in another thread that after this error had occurred on someone's Win 7 machine they found *.tmp files in the same directory as the ITL file.  I've got one there also called "Temp File.tmp", and I'm on Snow Leopard.
I have noticed that if there are a number of podcasts that have updates that haven't downloaded yet and I start getting this error, when quitting iTunes and restarting it will not remember that those feeds have new episodes -- I need to refresh all again, and then it finds them again.  (If the episode has downloaded, I guess it discovers that because the file is there, and doesn't make me download it again.)  This appears to be the issue the error causes, but it's awfully annoying when it keeps popping up over and over.  The only way to stop it is to quit and re-open.

Since I've upgraded to iTunes 11, I keep getting a pop up error message "The iTunes Library File cannot Be Saved.  An Unknown Error Occurred (-54)".  I have a library of probably about 40,000 songs.  I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I had to click on the "Do Not Show This Again" becuase it was coming up every 10 seconds or so.
Any information anyone could provide would be appreciated.

    Hello,
Is you library located on the internal drive? My first suggestion would be to repair permissions using disk utility.

What am I doing wrong? This happens every time so I click them and it sorts them (boring with 200 odd). How can I prevent this?

Once you successfully add you iTunes library to iTunes Match, you go to Settings>iTunes & App Store on your iOS device and turn on iTunes Match.  Your iTunes Match library will then appear on your iOS device.

Make sure the EHD is formatted OS X Extended (journaled) and run Disk Utilty on the EHD and repair the disk.  If that fails to help I'd try the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the external HD as the location of the newly rebild library.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Error Message: iTunes library cannot be saved (50) and then iTunes crashes

I am running 64 bit windows vista, with itunes 10.7.  I get the error message "Error Message: iTunes library cannot be saved (50)" once or twice and then iTunes crashes entirely.  this occurs after a random amount of time using iTunes, and the library is in fact saving between incidents.

The following line tells me that this is not a template file, but a document created from a template called index.dwt
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/index.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
This means that you saved a child document as a template file at some stage.
If you go to Modify->Templates->Detach from Template, you can remove the template structure from your document. All you then need to do is to re-save the document as a template.

Need advice on a saving file issue. I'm having problem with saving a .pdf file to computer. Continually get an error message " This document could not be saved. There was a problem reading this document (21). This is new as this error message just recently started to pop-up.

A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... then download the base install for Adobe Reader 11.0.
Then download each of the individual updates and run them sequentially.
I've installed back up to the last security update which is version 08 and have been able to do normal Save As operations.
You will have to disable automatic updates in order to stay at version 08 until Adobe resolves this issue in a later release.

  • Error message "The document could not be saved. This file is already open" when trying to complete an electronic signature.

Running Adobe Acrobat Professional 10.1.0. I cannot upgrade to newer version because several applications were already tested on this version.
When trying to complete an electronic signature, my users receive the error message ""The document could not be saved. This file is already open".  When they close and open the file again to try to sign again they find a corrupted electronic signature.  Instead of a clean signature with the box colored in light blue they see their signature with the embedeed message Click Here to Verify & Sign with the box colored in grey.
We turned off antivirus in the Sharefolder where the forms are stored and nothing.  We turned off the antivirus on the client and nothing.  We stored the files in another server and nothing.  One workaround is saving the file in the desktop, signing it, and then back to the Sharefolder.  Another is saving the file with a different file name.
I've searched and the only similar thing was caused by the Windows Preview Pane.  See Information Transmogrification: Adobe Acrobat saving a file does not work, displays “File may be read-only”.  No luck with this one too.
Is definitively an intermittent problem.  The users that experience the problem experience it intermittently.
This started to happen when we move our computers to Windows 7.
    Any ideas?

    Correction on Question:
This is a web application and the users need to be able to load the editable .pdf form from the website, edit it and submit it back to the website from within Internet Explorer.
Users began getting the error message:
'The document could not be saved. This file is already open.'
last Friday after having no problems prior to this. Some users can edit the editable .pdf forms on the website and save the file with the same name to the website. Some get the error mentioned in the subject.
We really need help getting this resolved.

  • My iPhoto isn't working. Error message says "you can't open the app "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete.

Just purchased a new mac with Mountain Lion installed. My iPhoto isn't working. Error message says "you can't open the app "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete.

First try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it does then make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Error message: "The media can't be used because you don't have access privileges, or because it has no content or is corrupt."

I get the error message "The media can’t be used because you don’t have access privileges, or because it has no content or is corrupt." when I drag photos (or copy and paste photos) from iPhoto to Pages/Word.
It never used to do this and is really quite annoying, as I now have to find the file through finder to drag from there.
I had to rebuild the iPhoto library a few days ago, is it something to do with this?
    Thanks in advance.

In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
