Error message says to delete and reinstall iPhoto

When I try to open iphoto, I get an error message that says, "iPhoto is damaged and can't be opened.  Delete iPhoto and download it again from the App Store."  What will happen to my pictures if I delete iphoto?

Nothing. They're in the Library which would not be affected by this.
That said, always, always, always have an up-to-date back up of your important data.

  • How can I delete and reinstall iPhoto?

There is an issue with the new operating system and iPhoto when creating a book, how do I delete and reinstall iPhoto?

drag the iPhoto application to the trash and
    reinstall from the original source
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer - if it came with CDs and you do not know where they are then contact Apple to see if they can be replaced
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first
However it would be a good idea to tell us what is going one - most likely you need to fix your library not reinstall the application - it is rare to need to reinstall the Application

  • I installed the latest version of iTunes but when I go to open I get an error message saying I need to reinstall but it will not let me

So I downloaded the latest iTunes 10 version. When I go to open iTunes I get an error message C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\QuartzCore.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. So I tried to download it again and I get a little box saying Repair or Remove and I have tried to do both but then I get an error message saying another installation is in process and to try again later. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?? Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you run into the "another installation" message even after the reboot of the PC (which is an excellent idea by HTP ProXy), reregistering your Windows Installer Service is worth a try.
First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".
    At the command prompt:
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Restart the PC and try another reinstalll.

Is Apple Application Support currently showing up in your Add or Remove Programs control panel, Joseph?
If so, what happens if you try to uninstall Apple Application Support? Does it seem to uninstall properly, or do you get an error message? If you get an error message, what does the message say? (Precise text, please.)

    Hi Kayleenfromwi,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  You may need to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service.  This article has instructions for doing this:

If that doesn't resolve the issue, I would recommend trying the steps in this article:

  • Delete and Reinstall IPHoto

Recently imported files from portable drive. Somehow got many copies of same photo plus all the faces now show in Iphoto, over 150,000 individual photos. Impossible to use. Can I delete IPhoto and reinstall. I have purchased the disc for ILife 11. Can I install from that. Help!!!

If I delete the app will it not delete the library also?
    No.
Can I delete library and reinstall and start over?
You can delete the Library and not re-install.
If I just delete the library won't it cause Iphoto to crash?
No, it will make a new, blank Library.
If you want to move this Library to the Mac then simply copy the Library to the Pictures Folder and open it. Don't import anything.
    Regards

It sounds as though a script on the site, or an advertisement, is not working quite right...
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove the site's cookies using either of these. Save any pending work first.
While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Why do I get these error messages saying that "HWNetMgr" and "HWPortDetect" are insecure start up items?

I have a brand new MacBook Pro, and two days ago I tried to install a Mobile Broadband named Tele2 Mobile partner, in cooperation with Huawei. The installation couldn't finish, so I removed the components that I could see had already been installed. But ever since I tried to install it, I get two error messages every time I start up safari, saying that I have two insecure start up items named "HWNetMgr" and "HWPortDetect". I have checked my start up items, and the only one I had was Spotify. I removed Spotify as a start object and restarted the computer, but I still got those two error messages. I have now searched through my computer several times and I just can't find these two things.
Does anyone know what this is about? What can I do to make these error messages go away? I am open to try any suggestions possible! This is a huge investment to me and I just don't want to have ruined it the first week! Please help me!

    MatildaMac wrote:
As I said, there are no items with those names in the start up folder.

  • Error messages says I need to reinstall itunes to burn or import CDs

When I start itunes I get a message that says itunes was not installed properly and if I want to burn or import CDs I need to reinstall itunes. I haven't tried burning any CDs but itunes imports CDs just fine. Everything else seems to work OK. I'm using itunes on a Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit machine. What's up?

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)

  • I keep getting an VERY long error message everytime I try and reinstall itunes.

    It states:
An error occured during the installation of assemby 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT.type="win32". version = "8.0.507276195". publicKeyToken="lfc8b3b9a1el8e3b". processorArchitecture="x86"". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x80073712.
Whatever the above means, it is preventing me from reinstalling iTunes and thus preventing me from undating my iPad. If anyone can suggest any ways of solving this I would be incredibly grateful.

Check the date and time in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
Check out why the site is untrusted and click "Technical Details to expand this section.<br>If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer of the certificate.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If "I Understand the Risks" is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
*Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
*Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.

    1
    Close all iWork applications
    2
Uninstall Keynote; this must be done with an application remover tool to delete the installation properly. Appcleaner is known to work correctly for this purpose, it is free and can be downloaded from here: Appcleaner Download
    3
    empty the trash
    4
shutdown the Mac and restart. After the start up chime, hold down the shift key until the apple logo appears
let the Mac complete the start up procedure completely, it will take longer than usual as the hard drive is being repaired

Reinstall Keynote by logging into the Mac App Store using download / install

  • Delete and reload iphoto

I Have recently posted discussions regarding my MacBook performance and in particular iPhoto hanging up. I have some great help and has improved my machines performance.
im still having issues with iPhoto though, it will open but then hang, I have to force quit as iPhoto stops my machine every time.
question is can iPhoto app be removed and reloaded, what other options do I have?
the message I also receive is that there is not enough application memory which seems to be the main issue.
    thank you

You can certainly delete and reinstall iPhoto
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
How much Ram do you have on that machine?
    Where is your Library stored?

  • I'm getting an error message that says iphoto is damaged - delete and reinstall from app store.  If I delete iphoto, what will happen to my pictures?

I'm getting an error message when I try to open iPhoto - it says, "iPhoto is damaged and cannot be opened. Delete iPhoto and download it again from the App Store." If I delete and reintall, what will happen to my pictures?  I cannot open my pictures from the Finder either to save them/back them up.

    Hello jwhhunt,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Your iPhoto Library is stored separately from your iPhoto application, therefore reinstalling iPhoto as the error message describes, will not affect your iPhoto Library.

Because of a problem, I uninstalled Firefox once, reinstalled it and it ran. I had a problem so I uninstalled/reinstalled it again. Now it will not run. I get an error message saying that firefox is running and you can only run one at a time. I have uninstalled multiple times and can't figure out what is running. The is only one Firefox installed and it is not open. What does this mean and how do I fix it?

If you use ZoneAlarm Extreme Security then try to disable Virtualization.
