  • "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." error messages when installing iTunes for Windows 7 64bit

I was promted to upgrade to the new itunes version today (11.0.2.26), but wish I never had as the previous version worked just fine!! I have been unable to install the new version and keep getting the message about there being a problem with the Windows Installer package. I tried following the instructions on this support pages on removing all Apple programs but that didn't work either!! I have Windows 7 64 bit and am close to throwing my PC out of the window!! Quicktime will not re-install correctly either...
Any suggestions will be most gratefully received

Just in case, let's try a standalone AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi install.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe, and select "Extract to iTunesSetup". WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup".
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi to do a standalone ASU install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If not, what error message do you get? (Precise text, please.)

  • Re "Could not open key: UNKNOWN\Components\[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbers]\[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbe rs]" error messages when installing iTunes for Windows

In answering this, B Noir had it almost correct.  What he missed was that in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData \S-1-5-18\Components one must also make sure that when right clicking on components/permissions, that the active user is allowed Full Control.

Many thanks for the heads up, Mac. In recent times, I've also seen that reported during a troubleshoot of a Safari variation of the issue:
Re: Trouble installing Safari Update On Windows
Plausibly we might be looking at two different subvariations of the issue.
Doublechecking something ... did your key (in the error message) have the UNKNOWN\Components\[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbers]\[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbe rs] structure? Or was it just a UNKNOWN\Components\[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbers] (no slash and no second alphanumeric string), like rona's key?

    Sean,
Yes, this is a known defect:  CSCue69477 - CTI Route Port Synch Issue with CUCM.  As per the bug:
"This issue will occur if the "SUBSCRIBE Calling Search Space" under Protocol Specific Information in the Template for the CTI Route Ports is configured. To work around this, the "Owner User ID" under Device Information for the Template needs to be configured."

With that one, try heading into your Windows Update and attempting to download some new updates. If they download, try another iTunes install.
If the Windows updates fail, open your Update History and doubleclick the failed updates. In the small box that comes up, what error message code are you seeing?
If it's an 0x8007000b, try the following document:
    [Windows Update error 8007000b|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Windows-Update-error-80070 00b]
... then stock up on Windows Updates, and then try another iTunes install.
If it's a different error code for the Windows Update failures, post back to let us know what it says.
(The underlying problems that can produce the iTunes install troubles of the type you're getting also typically prevent Windows Updates from installing. So my main strategy with them is to use the Microsoft documentation on the Update errors ... if we can get those fixed, the iTunes trouble is usually cleaned up +en passant.)+

  • Error Message when installing iTunes 10.7

Everytime I try to install the 64 bit version of iTunes I get the following error message:
    Error message: 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT.type="win32".version="8.0.50727.4053".publicKeyToken="1fc8b 3b9a1e18e3b".processorArchitecture="amd64"'.
I do have a 64 bit version computer. That is not my problem.  This has been happening for over a year now.

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? (For example, 8007000B.)

  • Error message when installing Safari on Windows xp

Tried to install Safari on Windows XP.
    Recived the following message;
"The older version of Apple Software Update cannont be removed. Contact you technical support group."

    "Safari Installer Interrupted"
What do I do and how do I fix it?

    Hello, dtharachai.
Thank you for the question.  Here are a couple things you could try to troubleshoot this issue.  You can try to repair the program Apple Software Update by following the first article below.  After you process these steps, attempt to uninstall this program.  If that step does not work, I have included a more in depth troubleshooting article that will help you uninstall program.  Once this is done you should be able to install Safari.

  • Please help - error message when installing iTunes 10

I have tried several times to install iTunes to my laptop. Every time, I get an error message that reads: "The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again."
I tried deleting the temp file and uninstalled all Apple components and still get the same error message.

Perhaps let's check to see if at least some of the iTunes components install.
Try installing QuickTime "on it's own". (Actually, this'll install a fair few of the other related itunes programs too, but not all of them.) Get the installer that doesn't mention itunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Does that install for you? If not, what error message do you get on the QuickTime install?
