Hi
Can you show us the output of
show file system
dir nvram
Do you get the startup config when you do a show start
And by the way why are you copying the startup config into the running config?
Thanks

  • -36 errors, can't copy files in finder or backup to tape drive

Does anyone know what causes -36 errors and how we can eliminate them? We need to backup our files, but have been unable to do so due to -36 I/O errors in Retrospect. Files on which this error is reported by Retrospect will not copy in the finder, either. I think our hard drive may be bad. How can we recover our files if they cannot be backed-up or copied?
We recently purchased a tape drive for backup, an Exabyte VXA-2 FireWire Tape Drive. We are using VXA-2 V23 (230m) 80GB/160/GB Data Cartridges. I have verified that this drive is supported by Retrospect and that we have the correct tape cartridge. We are backing up one partition of a hard drive that is divided into two partitions. One is the start-up partition, the other is a partition on which we store customer files. We are backing up the partition that stores customer files. The tape drive is attached to and backing up a Macintosh G3 that was recently upgraded from system 9 to OS X 10.3.9 (Panther). The hard drive was not re-formatted before OS X was installed. I have downloaded updates and updated our Retrospect to the latest Retrospect version 6.1.126. I keep getting read errors when trying to backup the customer files partition, although I have ran every good repair program I know of to that partition — TechTool, Disk Warrior and Disk Utility. The tests all say the drive is OK. The only test I have not done recently is a surface scan, as this is an over-night procedure, but plan to do it this evening. A surface scan was done at the beginning of January, but we have continued to have problems. Yesterday morning I ran Disk Utility and it verified that the partition was okay.
I am fairly certain the problem is not with the tape drive, as a test backup up of some of the problem customer files to a file backup on the startup drive also produced many -36 errors. Also the tape drive worked on another Mac with no -36 errors.
The following is an excerpt from the log of last night's backup when the program was backing up (this is a very small portion of the whole log, there was a very long list of files it reported read errors on) Following this excerpt is also an excerpt of errors reported while the program was trying to verify the backup:

The only suggestion I have come across is to copy the files to another drive, but this is impossible because the problem files cannot be copied. If anyone has any other suggestion for fixing this, I would appreciate any input. Thanks.
Mac G3 Blue & White 300 mhz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Original hard drive replaced with a 120 GB Maxtor 6Y120P0

Tech Tool, Disk Warrior, and Disk Utility all work to make sure the directory is Okay. They do not read every block.
I think you should do the surface scan you spoke of. What program do you use for this?
If you cannot copy a file in the Finder without an I/O error, the file is damaged or the drive had bad blocks.
Be sure you also downloaded the drivers module when you updated retrospect.

  • Error after installing tape drive

    Hi,
I am a newbie to Solaris, I have a SunFire V120 box, i was trying to install a tape drive(HP SureStore DAT24), i did the install in this manner.
    # rm -rf /etc/path_to_inst
    # init 6
later at the "ok" prompt i gave "boot -ar" after doing that it asked me various options i accepted the default values, when it asked for rebuilding the /etc/path_to_inst file i said "y", but later everything went wrong.
    This is the output,

I have exactly the same problem after running an fsck to clear corrupt files.
Is there a problem with mirrored disks and using boot -ar to rebuild path_to_inst?
The basic problem is that the root filesystem is coming up as read only
    i.e.
The /etc/path_to_inst on your system does not exist or is empty.

    Hello Kulvinderbuttar,
I understand that you are not able to make the recovery media.
Are you using recovery media creation?
Here is a link to walk you through the steps to create the recovery media.
The flash drive that you are using needs to be empty and may need to be reformatted before you can make the recovery media.
Let me know how everything goes.

  • I am getting the error message "could not copy to requested location" to a drive i have been using for over a year... when I do the same thing to another drive - it works just fine. why?

i am getting the error message "could not copy to requested location" to a drive i have been using for over a year... when I do the same thing to another drive - it works just fine. why?

    Possibly the drive is full
Possibly the permissions are not set to WRITE permission
Possibly there has been a "user mistake" and you think you are copying to a drive you have been using for over a year but something has accidentally changed and you're copying to a different location

  • How to create VTL and tape drives

    hi!
i want to create one library like"vlib" containing two tape drives vt1 and vt2 having equal space of 512 MB.
Can u plz check that i am on right track
    ob>mkdev -t library -o -S 2 -a test:/d01/secure/vlib -v vlib
    ob>mkdev -t library -o -a test:/d01/secure/vt1 -v -l vlib -d 1 vt1
    ob>mkdev -t library -o -S 2 -a test:/d01/secure/vt2 -v -l vlib -d 2 vt2
    Insert Volume
now here is where i am confuse .....
    ob>insertvol -L vlib -c 512 unlabeled 1-2
now how to insertvol in tapes .....by above command is this volume available to all tapes in that library.
actually i want that i have two tapes vt1 and vt2 ,both should have space 512 mb now when i take full database backup through rman ....after when vt1 becomes full it start utilizing other tape vt2 automatically.
    plz helppppppppp

thank you ....but please can u check that what i have done...i am giving detail......plzzz
    STEP 1)
    ob> mkdev -t library -o -S 2 -a test:/d01/secure/vlib -v vlib
    ob> insertvol -L vlib -c 512 unlabeled 1-2
    ob> lsvol -L vlib

    in 1: unlabeled, barcode fec96134fdea10285e7000c2944f637
    in 2: unlabeled, barcode feef494efdea10285e7000c2944f637
    ob> mkdev -t tape -o -a test:/d01/secure/vt1 -v -l vlib -d 1 vt1
    ob> lsvol -L vlib -D vt1
    Inventory of library vlib:
    * in 1: unlabeled, barcode fec96134fdea10285e7000c2944f637
    * in 2: unlabeled, barcode feef494efdea10285e7000c2944f637
    *: in use list
    ob> mkdev -t tape -o -a test:/d01/secure/vt2 -v -l vlib -d 2 vt2
    ob> mkdev -t tape -o -a test:/d01/secure/vt3 -v -l vlib -d 3 vt3
    STEP 2)
Then i created backup storage as RMAN default and selected vt1 as tape.
after that with rman i took full database backup.
    ob> lsjob -l

  • Java + Tape Drive I/O

Does Sun's JDK provide support for I/O to tape drives? From what I've read it does not.
The code I have written reports success on the write to tape, but is unable to read back. Attempting to read back with:
ois = new ObjectInputStream( new FileInputStream ( "/dev/st0" ) );produces this exception:
    Exception: java.io.IOException: Cannot allocate memory
    java.io.IOException: Cannot allocate memory

            at java.io.ObjectInputStream.readStreamHeader(ObjectInputStream.java:780)
            at java.io.ObjectInputStream.<init>(ObjectInputStream.java:
...As I understand, OOM errors are reported for more than just OOM situations. But 1) have set the VM at -Xmn16m -Xmx1024m, and 2) the tape cartridge is larger than the max VM could ever be.
    Thanks! -Brett

    Thanks for your reply.
Am still hoping for a definitive answer on whether or not the I/O delivered in the JDK/JRE will support tape drives.
To answer your questions, the data written to tape contains 3 objects written with ObjectOutputStream and writeObject(). It is then followed by some amount of encrypted data. When written to a file on disk, yes, it works just fine.
One theory is that my Java code has no idea what block size to use, and thus, is reading back using the wrong one. For example, after writing the 3 objects, I can attempt to read them back with 'dd' and get an error with the same text that Java reports:
    [root@superm9 ~]# dd if=/dev/st0 of=myfile ibs=1 count=100
dd: reading `/dev/st0': Cannot allocate memoryHowever, with an increase in the 'dd' block size, am able to verify that the objects were successfully written to tape:
    [root@superm9 ~]# dd if=/dev/st0 of=myfile ibs=64K count=5
    0+2 records in
    0+1 records out
    249 bytes (249 B) copied, 1.00244 seconds, 0.2 kB/s
    [root@superm9 ~]# strings myfile
    PDSsr
    com.brettlee.crypto.FileHeader
    versionxp
    com.brettlee.crypto.DataHeader
    dataFormatI
    versionL
    keyAliast
    Ljava/lang/String;L
    ksNameq
    keyt
    /root/mydata/mykeys/ks1.JCEKS
    ia      Q"
    [root@superm9 ~]#
    {code}
Other theories include needing to pass in some argument for block size somewhere, use a different InputStream, or Java just doesn't do tape.
If Java does support tape drives, I'd sure appreciate a link to the doc explaining how it handles tape block sizes.  If not, knowing it doesn't would be fine also.  Is there a Java I/O person out there who could speak to this?
    Thanks again!  -Brett

  • Esx & tape drive

Anyone have any suggestions for getting a quantum superloader LTO3
drive to work on an esx 5.1 host?
I changed the settings on the adaptec aha-29320ALP card to use
multi-lun for the scsi address of the tape device.
When scanning that device in vsphere, I see two paths, one active:
    pscsi.vmhba0-pscsi.0:4-naa.500e09efff0f273b
    and one dead:
    pscsi.vmhba0-pscsi.0:4-
I've been looking at documents & trying different things most of the
day & cannot seem to get this working.
Anyone willing to help that has run into something similar & got it
    working? I'd be most appreciative.
    Stevo

Anders Gustafsson sounds like they 'said':
    > Is it not the same trick you needed to do in 4.x?
    >
    > https://communities.vmware.com/threa...art=0&tstart=0
So my response to Anders's comment is...
I can't get the 2nd command to work, when I try it (changing values for
my system or not), I get:
    -sh: syntax error: unexpected "("
Just for grins, I tried copying it from the web page, pasting it, and
running as is, still get that error..........
It shouldn't be this @#$%ing difficult to swap a tape drive.

  • HP ePrint from excel add-in: Error while getting driver name for printer

Trying to use add-in for ePrint from excel/word I get, "error while getting driver name for printer \\...HP DesignJet 800PS 42 by HP," with an option to select "OK" and that same message repeats with each printer in our network, and then it doesn't allow me to print using the add-in. However, I can print normally to HP Go Web, open up Print and Share,  then print it from there. This happens with excel and word. I have Office Suite 2007.

    Hello modameister,
Sorry you are having issues with this printer and the ePrint add-on.  There are a couple of questions I would like you to answer please.
    1.  What operating system are you using? (XP,VISTA,7,MAC OS X)
    2.  What and how much data are you trying to print?
    3.  Have you tried to copy and paste the data into a different application or tried using the snip it tool?
    4.  Are you receiving any .dll errors (mscms.dll)
    Thanks
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!
Although I work for HP, my posts and replies are my own opinion and not those of HP.

  • Safari wont open; disc utility says errors on the drive but cant fix them

Hi, Safari isnt opening despite my installing it again from the CD as well as trying to install it from the latest version available online (I saved it onto my thumbdrive from another computer). So I ran disc utility and it says there are errors but that its not allowed to fix them since its mac HD that has the errors.
I couldnt copy and paste the log as it says 'not enough memory to complete the operation' but this is what the last bit said:
Volume bitmap needs minor repair check volume information. The volume MacintoshHD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit.
Additionally a lot of other applications: tech tool deluxe (from the apple protection plan CD), word etc. have been quitting for no reason. Is this a virus? Is there anything I can download to fix this?
Please help, I'm desperately trying to fnish my thesis on time...any suggestions would be hugely appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I ran disc utility and it says there are errors but that its not allowed to fix them since its mac HD that has the errors.
There are no viruses on your machine. Macs to date have not been affected by the typical viruses seen on PC's.
It seems you have directory errors on your Hard Drive. These can be caused by the machine shutting off unexpectedly (power failure), corrupted application code, or even lack of routine system maintenance.
You cannot correct directory errors on the same drive you are operating from - in this case your Hard Drive. In order to correct the errors, you need to start-up from your Installer DVD. Insert the disc. Once loaded, restart the computer. When the screen turns momentarily dark, hold down the C key. This tells the machine to start up from the DVD rather than the Hard Drive.
You can release the C key once you hear the CD engaged and the grey Apple screen appears. When fully installed, go to the Installer Menu and select "Disk Utility". When the Disk Utility panel appears, single-click on your Hard Drive on the left side. This will open the First Aid Panel. On the right you'll see "repair disk". Select it. Errors will appear during the process. Once done, continue to rerun until you get a clean pass.
Once finished, quit DU and quit the Installer. This will automatically restart the computer. From here, the log-in screen ought to appear and ultimately your Desktop.
When complete, go to the Utilities folder and select "disk utility". Again, highlight your hard drive. In the first-aid panel on the left select "repair permissions." This will not take very long. Refrain from using the computer while it is running.
Post back with results - there is more to do.

  • Eliant  820  tape drive

I'm Currently running solaris 9 and trying to hook up a
Eliant 820 tape drive. how do I modify the st.conf. is it
one line at a time ?. also is there a way to upgrade the firmware/ patches from solaris/sun?. all I get is I/O errors
everytime I run sunvts. I ran cleaning tapes/ new tapes
through about 3 times. I read something about
    modyfying the st.conf.
I have no problems with the exabyte 8505 tape drives
    just the eliant 820's.

    Hi Ketan,
    >> unable to initialize ASPI manager
Check SCSI id on your tape device. Try to use different SCSI number or try install correct device driver of the tape device.

  • PIXMA MG5420: scanner doesn't work, get error message that driver will be closed 3 202 19

For some reason, the scanner will not work.   Initially when I click on Autoscan on the PC menu  the message reads that the scanner is warming up.  Then I get an Error Message:  Internal Error Occurred Scanner Driver Will be Closed.  I don' t know what I'm doing wrong all of  a sudden.  There is only one computer in the network, mine, and I'm trying to scan from the 5420 via a USB cable into my HP laptop (Windows 8.1 64 bit).
Copying and printing work fine.  Where do I even start?

    Hi ellenrozsa,
The IJ Network Scanner Selector EX application will need to be running in order for you to scan wirelessly.  If the IJ Network Scanner Selector EX is running, its icon appears in the notification area of the taskbar as shown below:
If the icon is not displayed in the notification area of the taskbar, please click IJ Network Scanner Selector EX on the Start screen.  If IJ Network Scanner Selector EX is not displayed on the Start screen, select the Search charm, then search for "IJ Network Scanner Selector EX".
In the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the IJ Network Scanner Selector EX icon and select Settings....
Select your scanner or printer from Scanners, then click the OK button.
    Hope this helps!

  • Error code 50 when copying from TC to external HDD

Hi all, I bought a 3tb TC and backed up about 1.3tb worth of data onto it from an external HDD, I then formatted the external HDD to FAT 32 as I found out that TC does not like to work with FAT 32, no matter, the hard drive ois fixed now. However, when I go to copy all the data back onto the external HDD. i get "an unnexcpected error occured error code -50" or something like that, but the error code is definetly 50. I got this error when trying to copy the movies through, they are MKV files, I checked all the names and I dont think there are any problems with them.
the setup so far is as follows. Externall HDD --USB--> Time capsule.    All operations are being executed through an imac.
HELP ASAP will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

Error codes are really hard to figure out.. but i think it will be due to permissions.
    See http://pondini.org/TM/C10.html
It is an error from TM but I think it comes from underlying OS..
Can you copy files to this disk from a source other than the TC.. try copying a file from the TC to the Mac and then from Mac to the external disk.. but make sure it is plugged directly into the mac.. if you have issues look carefully at permission. And format/partition type.. do use GUID partition not MBR Or the older Apple systems.

  • Network drives and System Update updating itself (Error 1327.Invalid Drive)

I have a Windows network share permanently mapped as a network drive on my system. This prevents Lenovo System Update 5 from updating itself.
    Here is what happens:
Launch Lenovo System Update and click Next to look for updates.
When 'Searching for agent updates' it will tell me: 'System Update is updating itself. Your copy of System Update needs to be updated. Click OK to begin updating System Update.'
Click OK, Lenovo System Update will download the update and appear to install it.
At the end it will tell me: 'System Update was installed successfully'
Click Close, just to be sure I wait for a while so System Update can finish whatever it is doing in the background (if anything at all).
When nothing appears to happen I launch Lenovo System Update manually and it will tell me it needs to update itself again, and go to the same process as above. The update did not install successfully at all. System update keeps updating itself in a loop.
Next thing I tried is manually downloading the latest System Update version from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=TVSU-UPDATE
I downloaded systemupdate503-09-17-2013.exe for my Windows 7 machine.
The installer detects to old version of System Update and offers to uninstall that. I click Yes.
A moment later the real error appears: 'Error 1327.Invalid Drive: S:\'
The only thing I can do now is press OK to close the installer.
The S:\ drive is my network drive which is permanently mapped to a share on my NAS.
It is not an invalid drive, S:\ opens fine in Windows Explorer.
I don't know why the System Update installer wants to access my S: drive in the first place. All my applications are installed on C:. While I did move some special folders like My Pictures and My Videos to S:, the relevant folders My Documents and Desktop are still on C:.
I have found a workaround to the problem above:
Close Lenovo System Update completely when it says it needs to update itself.
Run Command Prompt as Administrator (find it in the start menu, righ-click it and 'Run as administrator').
Type 'subst s: c:\' without the quotes. Replace s: with the drive letter of your network drive, and c: should be an existing regular drive.
Now run Lenovo System Update again and let it update itself.
You'll notice System Update now restarts itself after updating and there are no problems.
Once you are done with System Update, type 'subst s: /D' to delete the substituted virtual drive. Don't worry, this will not delete your actual network drive.
The workaround does the job, but it would be nice to see an actual fix from Lenovo. I have a ThinkPad X230 running 64bit Windows 7 Professional if this is relevant.

Please try either of the workaround.
    1. Create a new Admin user, log on in that and then you can install Adobe Reader,
    or
    2. easier solution is just create a dummy folder on your machine anywhere, lets says Folder name "Dummy"  in c:\
    not go to command prompt
    and type subst I: c:\dummy
and you are all set to go.
once you are done, you can remove that virtual drive mapping by
    subst I:\  /d
please let me know if works.

  • Error Message "Tape Trouble - Check VTR"

I am using a Panasonic VTR AJ-D450(via Component and RS422 deck control @ DVC Pro 50 resolution) capturing with a Blackmagics Extreme HD and I get the following error message:
"Tape trouble--check VTR. Do no attempt to eject tape or use transport without checking VTR first."
The tape keeps running with this message up on the screen but the drive has stopped capturing. There are no timecode skip warnings and no other indications.
The main problem is that the capture using Blackmagic Deck Control is perfect, this message appears only in the FC2 capture. In another topic, Aja resolved this issue with a patch.
There are no error messages on the deck display which tells me the deck & tape are actually ok. But has anyone else experienced this and have knowledge about it?
    Thanks
    Andre

    Hello Guys,
Thank you for the support, I had solved the problem using the Keyspan USB where the Final Cut 2 started to capture the image normally.
I am not sure now about the compatibility between Blackmagics Decklink and RS422 of Panasonic VTRs.
    Regards,
    André Ingnez
