Error starting up ApEx's Oracle HTTP server

Hello.
I have just configured a brand new Oracle HTTP server on a brand new ApEx database. When I try to start the server, it doesn't start and I see errors in the log files.

orp244a is a 10.2.0.4 database into which ApEx has been installed per the install guide with no errors. The Oracle HTTP server is 10.2.0.1. Both run on Zemple. I have substituted the domain name and the password for APEX_PUBLIC_USER account with <my domain here> and <my password here>, respectively, for security reasons.
When I check http://zemple.<my domain here>:7777, I get the standard Oracle HTTP Server page. But when I check http://zemple.<my domain here>:7777/pls/apex I get the "Page cannot be found" error.

The modplsql/logs directory is completely empty.
The stop and start of the http server is clean - no errors reported.
The main log in Apache/Apache/logs directory is not big, since it is a brand new install of the http server. Here is the complete log:

Strange error when enabling SSL on Oracle HTTP Server

Hi,
In our production environment Oracle HTTP Server starts fine when SSL is disabled.
We've enabled SSL in our dev/uat environments using instructions from the Oracle Documentation. It was pretty straightforward.
When i tried to do the same in our production environment, the Oracle HTTP Server wouldnt restart. I've had a look around the forums and havent seen anyone report the same error we are seeing in the logfile.

Has anyone experienced this problem before? Any idea how we can get this working?

Noticed that when it starts with apachectl startssl, it doesnt like any <VirtualHost directive
The line in the dms.conf file that it errors out at is :
<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:7201>
When i added a redirect the httpd.conf file, it errors out at the <VirtualHost line also
Any idea why the Oracle HTTP Server wouldnt like <VirtualHost directives when running startssl?

APEX and Oracle HTTP server

Scenario
We are considering using APEX with Oracle 10g. However, we don't have Oracle application server.At the same time we do not want to use the Oracle HTTP server(OHS) on the database server. The propsed application intend to use by approx. 5000 users
Questions
As APEX requires just OHS and mod_plsql plugin,
1. Can we install just Oracle HTTP server and mod_plsql on standalone server? Which CD need to be used?
2. Can OHS can be licensed separately as Oracle Internet application server(Enterprise Edition) based on processor licensing is expensive and not affordable.However, there are other options like Standard Edition and Standard Edition One as well but do not require any other options except OHS and mod_plsql plugin.Hence, what is the cost effective option to have OHS and mod_plsql as a middle tier component to deploy APEX applications

I'm by no means a security expert, but I don't think this is a best practice. I think the best practice is to use two HTTP servers: one in the DMZ and one on the DB server. The one in the DMZ can be a standard Apache install - it acts as a proxy server and does not need mod_plsql. The second should be OHS. This configuration allows you to block ports that are usually used to communicate with the DB from the server in the DMZ.
Did I get that right or am I way off?

APEX without Oracle HTTP Server 10gR2

Guys,
I know that you can run APEX in Oracle XE without requiring to install an HTTP server.
But I have heard that the same is now true if you are using Oracle 10gR2.
Is this the case and if it is can you answer the following questions :
a) How is it done ?
b) How is it configured ?
c) Is this the way forward for APEX or do you still see the need for the HTTP Server ?
d) How would you migrate from an APEX application developed and deployed using an HTTP Server to one which does not ?
Any answers would be very helpful as I have a client who is extremely reluctant to install the Oracle HTTP server and I think that if you could use one which is within the database then that may win them over to APEX development.

Search the Oracle XE forum for dbms_xdb and dbms_epg, however, I don't know if it's possible to do what you want. You may need to run XE.

I plan to install APEX 4.2.1 and oracle HTTP server on 10.2.0.4 database.
Is there any down time required during installation?
I mean during installation, do I need to block users from accessing the database?
Can they do their normal data entry / inquiry?

An alternative to shutting down the database is to prevent all users from accessing Oracle Application Express when upgrading your installation from a previous release of Oracle Application Express. Oracle only recommends this option in high availability production environments where planned outages are not available. For all other scenarios, the database should be shut down.
To disable access to Oracle Application Express when the existing installation is using the Application Express Listener, shut down the appropriate application server where the Application Express listener is deployed.
To disable user access to Oracle Application Express when the existing installation is using the Oracle HTTP Server with mod_plsql, you should either shut down the Web server or disable the Application Express Database Access Descriptor of the Web server.
For an existing installation using the embedded PL/SQL gateway, you should disable the Oracle XML DB Protocol Server by setting the HTTP port to 0. This can be accomplished by starting SQL*Plus, connecting as SYS to the database where Oracle Application Express is installed, and running:

Once you have prevented access from Oracle Application Express users, you should log into SQL*Plus as SYS, connecting to the database where Oracle Application Express is installed, and query V$SESSION to ensure there are no long running sessions which would interfere with the upgrade process.
Back up the Oracle Database installation.
Oracle recommends that you create a backup of the current Oracle Database installation before you install Oracle Application Express. You can use Oracle Database Recovery Manager, which is included in the Oracle Database installation, to perform the backup.

Problem with starting Oracle HTTP Server

I am in the process of installing Oracle Application Express Resease 2.2. After installing Oracle HTTP Server, I stopped it. But when I tried to start it, it failed. The following is the error message I got. Your assistance in helping solve this problem will be highly appreciated!

Here is everything from that file. I also attached the configuration section of the apachectl file below. The ORACLE_HOME points to the ORACLE_HOME for http, not the ORACLE_HOME for database. "Apache.Exe - Entry point not found
The procedure entry point OCIUserCallBackRegister could not be located in the dynamic link library OCI.dll "
and service failed without starting. my day to day operations in this server have been stopped now. anybody can help me noww????

what's the version of iAS you are using. If it is iAS v2, you shouldn't start / stop HTTP server stand-alone. You should use opmnctl script $ORCALE_HOME/opmn/bin. This "opmn" service is also listed in you win*2000 machines service list.

what's the version of iAS you are using. If it is iAS v2, you shouldn't start / stop HTTP server stand-alone. You should use opmnctl script $ORCALE_HOME/opmn/bin. This "opmn" service is also listed in you win*2000 machines service list.

Apex Installation ok, HTTP Server displays error in logs

I have a strange issue.
Apex 3.2 installation was okay. However when bouncing Apache HTTP Server, I have following errors in the log.

My http home directory is c:\OracleHTTP; my old HTTP directory was C:\orahttp that I deleted and reinstall Oracle HTTP Server.
I don't understand why these error is coming? even Apache is referring old http server home.
on DADS.CONF my image directory is set to

So the situation is when I invoke Apex it displays with all images, but do not move after that; i.e the screen don't move whatever you type.
Can anybody give advise what can we do to make Apex functional?

The reference to old HTTP home was resolved as there were old settings on Window Registry that I deleted.

Cannot start Oracle HTTP Server

Hi,
if I try to start the Oracle HTTP Server I get the following error message on the console:

In the log file I found this entry:

But this module is definitive in this folder. What can I do?

I have a workaround - If you are not planning to use mod_wl_ohs then don't load this module.
You can stop it loading by commenting below line from httpd.conf
include "${ORACLE_INSTANCE}/config/${COMPONENT_TYPE}/${COMPONENT_NAME}/mod_wl_ohs.conf"
1. Go to
C:\\oracle\\product\\11.1.1\\as_1\\instances\\instance1\\config\\OHS\\ohs1/httpd.conf
2. change
# Include the configuration files needed for mod_weblogic
include "${ORACLE_INSTANCE}/config/${COMPONENT_TYPE}/${COMPONENT_NAME}/mod_wl_ohs.conf"
to
# Include the configuration files needed for mod_weblogic
# include "${ORACLE_INSTANCE}/config/${COMPONENT_TYPE}/${COMPONENT_NAME}/mod_wl_ohs.conf"
3. Restart HTTP Server
4. $ORACLE_BASE/admin/<instance_name>/bin/opmnctl restartproc ias-component=ohs1

Move apex to another http server "Error on Page"

Hi,
I runing apex 2.2 on an oracle http server, but now I have installed collaboration suite on the same server and want to move my apex. Can't get it working the browser says "Error on page", the login button is not working and strange fonts.
I hade moved image directory and created the marvel.conf + included in http.conf.
http error log shows entries:
File does not exist: /oracle/product/ocs_app/Apache/Apache/htdocs/calendar/images/javascript/htmldb_html_elements.js
but my marvel.conf has:
Alias /i/ "/oracle/product/http/Apache/Apache/images/"
Have tried to copy images also to /oracle/product/ocs_app/Apache/Apache/htdocs/calendar/ the errors disappears from log file but browser still shows “Error on Page”
Can anyone help, please?

Looks like a Reverse Proxy solution where you have one HTTP server in DMZ and one behind the firewalls. Please check Apache docs for Reverse Proxy. You can also use Web Cache for this purpose, or use a Hardware Load Balancer.

Oracle Http server can not start

Hi friends,
I'm running OAS 9i Release 2 (9.0.2.0.1) under Windows 2000 Server and I have some difficulties to start Oracle http server.
When starting it under this the dos prompt (using the following command: C:\ora9ias_forms\opmn\bin>opmnctl.exe startall), I receive the following message:
Request partial success -- 1 of 6 processes started.
What's wrong ?.
How to solve this matter. Thanks.

Look under opmn/logs/
There are 3 logs that can help, read the ons.log, You can fin de reason in there.
Did you modify any conf file before restart?

We are completely new to this Oracle Apex.
Wanted to know the licensing part of it , before we get into it.
I guess Oracle Apex is free as it comes with the Oracle database license.
1) Do we need some kind of HTTP server to host the Apex on the browser ?
2) Does any HTTP server will work with Oracle Apex ?
3) Any other free Oracle tool which we can use instead of licensing Oracle HTTP server for this Apex ?
Correct me if I am wrong.

Correct me if I am wrong.OHS is covered by the DB license if OHS is run on the same server. See Joel's post and the document he links to: +{message:id=9256804}+.

Hi , I've installed Oracle 9i database, unable to start my Oracle HTTP Server. Mine is a standalone Win2k system, not connecetd to the Internet, doesnt have a modem either. How do i start my Oracle HTTP Server?

open your Windows Services (Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools)
and verify your whether your service OracleOraHomexxHTTPServer is started or not. If not you can start it from there.

Oracle HTTP server with multiples apex instances

It is possible to have an Oracle HTTP server installed in a diferente machine,
and apex Installed on databases there are in diferent machines?
Or it would be necessary to install one HTTP server for each APEX instance?
For instance:

Yes, you can define multiple DADs - pointing to different machines/APEX instances - in one OHS instance.
