Error when copying large (65bg) file to TC

I recently switched to aperture from iphoto and want to move my iphoto library file (65gb) to my time capsule for storage. I am using the hd in the TC for storage now, while my time machine backups go to a new external HD connected to the TC.
Problem is, when I try to copy the iphoto library file I get an error after it has copied 26.7mb. It says
"...can't complete the operation because some data in "iPhoto Library 1" can't be read or written. (Error code -36)"
So I rebuilt the library using iphoto library manager and had it put the new rebuild file on my TC. That worked, but the new file is 40gb instead of 65gb which is freaking me out.
I also tried making a copy to my internal drive to see if the file would copy at all. It did. Then I tried to move that file to the TC and got the same error, again at 26.7mb.
Any thoughts on why I can't copy this file? I have managed to write and read other files to the TC just fine. And the iphoto library file opens fine so it doesn't appear to be corrupt.

Hi Rudolf,
Thanks, I looked into the erro but it does not give any clue what could cause the error. It just says number of error exceeded. I looked into the access database table and data seems fine. Now I am not sure if the error is causing by the reading from access
or writing to the SQL server. Is there a way to find out what is causing the error?
Thanks.

  • Why I get CRC error when copying outlook.ost file?

My workstation is using NTFS, Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2007 server.
    My outlook.ost file is 1.7GB.
As my Outlook runs into problem, I tried to copy the outlook.ost file to another location for repair, but I keep getting CRC errors and the file was not copied.
I also tried to use winrar to compress it and it runs into the same CRC error.
Q#1. What causes this CRC error? hard disk error or software?
Q#2. How to repair such CRC error?
    Thanks.

    Hi Peter,
The cyclic redundancy check, or “CRC” error, indicates a bad spot/corruptions within the file that you are trying to copy and in lot of cases with your hard disk.
To make sure if the problem is with the .ost file or your hard disk, you can fire up a Command Prompt window, and then copy the file to NUL:
C:>CD (path of your .ost file)
    C:(path of your .ost file)>copy name.ost NUL
If this succeeds, the problem is with your .ost file. If this fails, it should be a hardware based disk issues.
If it's an issue with your .ost file, I'd suggest to run
scanpst.exe tool to repair your data file, then check if this fixed it.
When the issue is hardware based, you probably need to find Disk Errors in the System log of your Event Viewer. You can access the Event Viewer by going to:
Control Panel-> Administrative Tools-> Event Viewer
By the way, .ost file is actually a local copy of your mail items on the server. For a corrupted .ost file, you actually don't need to "copy the outlook.ost file to another location for repair". You can simply rename it to .ost.old
or delete it, and then re-launch Outlook to let it generate a new .ost file from server.

  • Error when downloading large audio files

I purchased two audio files (.m4a) and got emailed the download links. One was 3.7MB and when I clicked the download link in the email on my iphone 4 it streamed. The other file was 76.8MB and when I clicked the link in the email on my iphone 4 I get a 'This operation cannot be completed' message.
Both files could be downloaded fine on my computer.
Does anyone know why this would be the case? And what I can do about it?

    Hi,
Per my understanding, you might want to download the content of files into database in SharePoint Hosted App.
In SharePoint Hosted App, as we can only use JavaScript which is supposed to be executed in browser, the content retrieved will be stored in memory then to the local hard drive.
As a workaround, I suggest you develop a Provider Hosted App and do the same job there instead. In Provider Hosted App, we can use C# to handle the file downloading which should
be more appropriate in your scenario.

  • Finder issues when copying large amount of files to external drive

When copying large amount of data over firewire 800, finder gives me an error that a file is in use and locks the drive up. I have to force eject. When I reopen the drive, there are a bunch of 0kb files sitting in the directory that did not get copied over. This is happens on multiple drives. I've attached a screen shot of what things look like when I reopen the drive after forcing an eject. Sometime I have to relaunch finder to get back up and running correctly. I've repaired permissions for what it's worth.
10.6.8, by the way, 2.93 12-core, 48gb of ram, fully up to date. This has been happening for a long time, just now trying to find a solution

    Scott Oliphant wrote:
iomega, lacie, 500GB, 1TB, etc, seems to be drive independent. I've formatted and started over with several of the drives and same thing. If I copy the files over in smaller chunks (say, 70GB) as opposed to 600GB, the problem does not happen. It's like finder is holding on to some of the info when it puts it's "ghost" on the destination drive before it's copied over and keeping the file locked when it tries to write over it.
This may be a stretch since I have no experience with iomega and no recent experience with LaCie drives, but the different results if transfers are large or small may be a tip-off.
I ran into something similar with Seagate GoFlex drives and the problem was heat. Virtually none of these drives are ventilated properly (i.e, no fans and not much, if any, air flow) and with extended use, they get really hot and start to generate errors. Seagate's solution is to shut the drive down when not actually in use, which doesn't always play nice with Macs. Your drives may use a different technique for temperature control, or maybe none at all. Relatively small data transfers will allow the drives to recover; very large transfers won't, and to make things worse, as the drive heats up, the transfer rate will often slow down because of the errors. That can be seen if you leave Activity Monitor open and watch the transfer rate over time (a method which Seagate tech support said was worthless because Activity Monitor was unreliable and GoFlex drives had no heat problem).
If that's what's wrong, there really isn't any solution except using the smaller chunks of data which you've found works.

  • Error message when copying a music file from PC to BB

I get the following error message when copying a music file. Also I cannot delete any files.
"Cannot copy. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

Hello lcoyote and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Do you get the error on all media files or just one in particular? From where are you trying to delete files?
    Is your media card formatted?
If you aren't able to add/remove media, try formatting the card as shown in KB10527
If you currently have photos on the card, try to move them to the computer first as formatting the card will delete all data.
Let me know how you make out

  • "Unable to quarantine" when copying large iPhoto DB

I have a large iPhoto Database, approx. 56 GB.
When I try to copy it to a NAS, the performance of the copy-process is horribly slow (estimated time shown: several days).
In Console I get hundreds of error messages like this:
    12.11.12 20:36:14.000 kernel[0]: Finder[200] Unable to quarantine `c5BwOK5RT0mJtLlYgIik6A.apalbum': 22
    12.11.12 20:43:52.000 kernel[0]: Finder[200] Unable to quarantine `50uHH8j7T4ORsQBpGAOrEA.apdetected': 22
When I stop the copying process it just hangs and I need to restart Finder.
When copying a single file, e.g. a 7.7GB mov-File, performance is good and now errors are shown.
Any ideas what this could be?
    Thanks
    Steffen

    Hi,
    Just my thought.
An iPhoto Library consists of tons of files.
(Go into the Finder, control click the Library and choose Show Packet Contents)
If you copy it, it starts copying all the files inside the Library to the desired destination.
Another issue, at least I am having a similar problem related to Aperture.
    Files can have "extra attributes"
(Go into the Terminal and try the command xattr on a file)
What probably is the case here, is that your NAS does not support extra attributes on files.
So when Finder tries to copy, it also tries to copy the extra attributes.
    Which apparently is not possible.
I do get the same error in my log on a single file, but it copies it anyway, so it might be that if you leave it copying it might end succesfully after all.
    Not sure about that though.
    Regards,
    Jan

  • Error when opening a zipped file transfred to the FTP via ABAP program

    Hi All,
I have extracted the files from al11 and have zipped them and moved the zipped file to FTP site.
But when I open the zipped file in FTP site, it shows the file names, but they dont look like real files(looks as text)...Even when copied the zipped file to the local pc and tried opening it the result was same.
Note : For testing when the same zipped file is written to al11 and dowloaded from there using CG3y it works fine.
Also created a zipped folder manualy and copied it to the FTP site and tried opening it.....It opened but displayed there are no records in it (which is incorrect), But when copied the same file back to local PC it displayed correctly.
Please let me know hoe to resolve this issue.

  • FM 10 - Serious Internal Error When Copying/Pasting

We regularly encounter a serious internal error when copying text from one FM doc to another. We also get the error (occasionally) when we run FrameScript. Does anyone know what could cause this? It appears to happen randomly (i.e. it doesn't appear to be tied to one particular .book or .fm file). We use FM 10, Windows 7, 64-bit OS, and have 4GB of RAM installed. Help please!

We have version 10.0.2.419. There is nothing out of the ordinary with the content except that it is typically in track text edits. We cannot reproduce the crash on demand. It seems to happen randomly and to some users more than others.

  • Copying large video files

I am trying to copy large video files <150gig from one external 8TB G-raid to another 4TB external drive.  Some files have no problems whereas others stop copying halfway through and provide an error message that says it can't continue because the file is in use.  I've rebooted several times with no success.  File size isn't the issue.  A 150Gb file copied with no problem but a 60TB file keeps stopping mid stream.  I can copy to our server with no problem but I have to put them on this drive because of lack of room on the server. Please help.  Frustrated.
I'm using a MacPro, 64G ram, Lion, 2TB boot drive, 6TG internal raid.

Your G-RAID is using what interface?
And your 4TB drive is on what interface / controller? What type 4TB drive? 2 x 2TB with built in RAID function?
    (60TB???)
What model? I assume it would have to be 4,1 or 5,1.
An SAS/SATA controller with mini-SAS could handle large volume array and copy operations.
Sounds like USB or Firewire and choking.

  • Errors when writing metadata to files on Windows Server

    Good day!
I have an iMac running OSX 10.9 (Maverick) and Lightroom 5.2.
My catalog is on the local iMac drive, and the images are on SMB shared drive (handled by Windows 2012 server).
I decided to do the final layout of my album using InDesign, and for that I needed to access to images using Bridge. So selected all the images (the rated once...) and issue a Metadata/Save command.
The system came back with errors on many of the files (such as Photos are read only, and unknown errors).
Retrying to save the metadata on image that was flagged with an error usually (but not always) worked.
I tried to select save the metadata for few (6) images in a time, many times it was ok, but sometimes, one or two of them failed (and retrying again usually solved the problem).
It looks to me like a timing related issue.
    Any ideas?
(After spending about an hour on this, I have exported the images to my local drive...). In general I don't have similar problems with other apps.
    Any ideas?
    Yuval

    I Yuval
I'm experiencing more or less the same behavior (see Read-only error when writing metadata to file over network (Synology DS1315+ using AFP) ). For me however, the problem is more pronounced if I use the AFP protocol and is better (I think as you described) if I use SMB (all done on a Synology DS1315+). With SMB it most often works but in very rare cases I also get the "read only" message!
Do you have solution to this? Or are you stuck as I am?
    Cheers, Chris

  • Error when Writing Metadata to Files in Bridge (Mac) but not in Bridge (PC)

We get an error when writing metadata to files in Bridge (Mac) but not in Bridge (PC). In the same drive and folder, the PC can successfully write a keyword to a file on the PC, where the Mac returns an error. I have researched this at the Adobe Knowledgebase, but their answer seemed to indicate it was a global issue, and we don't see that behavior on the PC.
The client is a Mac of course, and the server volume is a Windows share volume. The Mac is bound to AD, and the domain\username and username formats have both been tried when logging in, but you receive the error in both.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Rich Oliver

Hi, I'm having the same problem using FreeNAS (which uses Samba and Netatalk in the backend), but I tried with both AFP and SMB on Mavericks and Yosemite, I still have the same issue.  I think it might be a timing issue with how lightroom interact with a slower write delay using network shares.  I suggest you also chime into this thread:  Lightroom 5 can't write metadata to DNG files   I really hope this is resolved as this is impacting my productivity as I moved my workflow to my Macbook with a shared NAS.

  • FM GUI_UPLOAD gives PC036 "Error when opening the download file".

    Dear all
I'm having a problem with a particular PC.
A program which calls FM GUI_UPLOAD gives the error PC036 "Error when opening the download file".
The file we are trying to upload is a text file, with tab delimiter.
If the same user executes the same program from another PCs, it works fine.
If another user executes the program in the "problematic" PC, it gives the error.
    So, the problem is PC-related.
I checked SAP GUI Codepage, and was the same as other PCs.
I cheched regional configuration, and was also the same as other PCs.
The operating  system is Windows XP, and the SAP GUI version is 7.10,  File version 7100.2.7.3077, Build 967944 , Patch level 7.
    SAP version is ECC6.
I searched across forums, SAP note, and the web, but I couldn't find anything.
I would be grateful if someone could give me ideas.
    Thanks in advance
    Jordi

Also the file system are the same in both PC NTFS or FAT32 (today i'm find FAT32 in enterprise ) If NTFS may be some Domain politics are not allow to save file correctly, or space are not enough....Try check this first...Regards.
