Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:

i updated my itunes, and now it won't play any of my music. i tried deleting it and reinstalling itunes, but it still is doing the same thing: whenever i click on a song, it looks like it's going to play (and my last.fm thing starts scrobbling it) but it just doesn't play the song, ever. it sits there, with the play button played. i am so frustrated with itunes, and i have no idea how to resolve this.

This didn't happen until after I was attempting to restore my iPad.  Restore was unsuccessful.  It suggested I make sure I was up to date on upgrades and restart.  I did and now it won't start again so I can attempt to restore my iPad.

  • Error when updating itunes.  now no itunes access

I get the following error when I open itunes now:
Runtime error! R6034 Please contact the application's support team for more information.
I assume that means Apple.  I tried everything mentioned on the support community and nothing helps.  Suggestions?!  I REALLY don't want to lose my music.  Well, I know I won't lose it but I would love to get more !

I'm having the same problem.  Looks like iTunes Match is broken.  It works on my iPhone, but not on either of my PCs.  I'm not sure when the problem started but I noticed it this evening.  Can't have been more than a day or 2 since I last updated Match and it worked fine. I should also add that iTunes itself is acting wonky, Sync doesn't work right, etc.  I'm sure it's all related and is a glitch in the Apple servers.  Happens every time there's a major release of iTunes.  I do wish they'd spend more time testing before they release a buggy upgrade, but alas, it never seems to be done that way.
iOS 8.1 on a 5 (no bloody C or S), iTunes 12.0.1 on a PC running Windows 7 latest version.  Problem also occurs on a PC laptop running Windows 8.1.

I just did the OS X update and then the iTunes update and now my iTunes won't open on my Mac mini. I click the icon and it doesn't do anything and I even tried opening it in my applications folder and it still won't come up. Is anyone else having this problem and if so, how do I fix it?

I had this and managed to fix it:
    Download iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Open the Terminal
    Run "sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app"
    Re-install iTunes

  • HELP!! Updated iTunes and now it won't work

I just updated itunes & quicktime. I can't open itunes, it tells me that I need to have quicktime 7.0.3. which I do. It tells me to reinstall which I've done 3 times.
    Help!!!
    Thank you!

    hello Illinois!
I can't open itunes, it tells me that I need to have quicktime 7.0.3. which I do.
hmmm. is that message saying that you have 7.0d0 installed?
if so, what we're going to try is a careful standalone QT 7.0.4 install. (that's the version of QT which you are supposed to be getting in an itunes 6.0.2.23, 6.0.3.5 or, as of this afternoon, an itunes 6.0.4.2 installer bundle.)
download and save the QT 7.0.4 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer
if the standalone QT install goes through okay, will your itunes launch properly?
    love, b

  • Updated ITunes and now it won't coonect to the internet

Please help..... I updated my ITunes on my computer on Saturday and ever since I get an error message saying that "ITUNES COULD NOT CONNECT TO THE MUSIC STORE. THE NETWORK CONNECTION WAS REFUSED. MAKE SURE YOUR NETWORK SETTINGS ARE CORRECT AND YOUR NETWORK CONNECTION IS ACTIVE, THEN TRY AGAIN."
Everything else on my computer works fine, including the internet and nothing has changed. What can I do?????
    THNX!!!!
    Dell   Windows XP

OK -- I'm back. I am the original poster on this thread.
In brief ---the status is "No Change". Note that technically I can connect to iTunes via the Internet, but it's useless -- I can't buy anything.
Since my last posting I have uninstalled iTunes version 6.0.4.2. After the uninstall I re-booted and verified that it was truly gone. Note however, my library of downloaded music remained OK. That was a relief.
I installed the prior version, and subsequently found the same problem. To summarize, iTunes works in all respects, except for the ability to purchase music from iTunes. In fact, the performance is fine -- it's as fast as ever, which is actualy kind of slow, but still bearable.
I've given my Registry a thorough scrubbing (I'm very compter literate), all to no avail.
I also ran an interesting test -- On one attempt to purchase (the "Buy Now" button, I deliberately entered an incorrect password. iTunes IMMEDIATELY flagged it as NG, after which I entered the correct password, and iTunes seemingly started to download my purchase.
    But it didn't --
My favorite error message is this one --
“Could not purchase the items in your cart.
    An unknown error occurred. (-50)
There was an error in the Music Store.
    Please try again later.”
Believe it or not, this error makes me laugh, even as I grit my teeth. With this messaye Apple clearly inicates that (a) the problem is their fauilt, and (b) they don't understand it any better than we do.
HERE IT IS -- Apple is in busines with iTunes to sell music, but they have an error that (a) totally blocke that capability, (b) they admit it is their fault, (c) they don;t know what to do, and (d) they screw the customer.
An UNKNOWN ERROR ? Come on, Apple -- in well written, robust software there ain't no such thing. This message just indicates that the people at iTunes are clueless about their software. Who developed it?
Another thing -- the error message tends to vary among three different messages. Is Apple tweaking the operating software trying helplessly to make it work? Seems like that is the case. Well, in a high quality software environment you DO NOT tweak the on-line system. You have an offline develoment and test environment with real software engineering tools. This is amateur stuff -- like software written by talanted, but totally inexperienced high school kids.
This has been going on since the beginning of June.
Apples promises reponses to eMails within 24 hours. No way. I have not received a single response so far.
Their web site alludes to "World Class Support" Who is kidding who? We all know this is not so, but somehow I think Apple really believes it.
Keep the replies coming. If this threaad gets big enough someone at Apple may actually read it. If it gets up to over a hundred replies PC Week of PC Magazine might find it of compelling interest.
I really want to keep using iTunes as I already have a large collection iniTunes, and I want to keey my collection in a single environment.
Just in case, I've taken my trusty 35mm camera and taken pictures on my iTunes Shopping List. That way I can go elsewhere if I need to.
Rhapsody looks positively awful, and Napster seems to have a large amoung to complaints. Stil, I'm looking.
Keep those letters coming folks. Let's build up a compelling case, right here in this thread. Tell your friends about this thread.
    Thanks.

  • HELP!!!!  I just updated iTunes and now it won't open!

When I double click the icon on my desktop, my curser does the hourglass thing like it always does before the program opens, but then it stops and the program doesn't open! Everything else on my computer seems to work and my virus scan thingy says there's nothing wrong. I have also reinstalled iTunes twice and restarted my computer. I tried calling the help number but after waiting ten minutes to speak to a live human being, I was told that I would have to pay fifty bucks for them to help me! After reading the other posts on this message board, I am beginning to think that they are doing this on purpose so that they can charge everybody fifty bucks. Anyway, any advice regarding how I can open iTunes without losing my music, messing up my computer, or paying fifty dollars would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Gawd, no, i'ts not an evil plot by Apple to get $50. It's because 9 times out of 10, it's a Windows problem and since they didn't sell you the Win PC, they're not giving free support.
OK, do you get any error message?
Go to Task Manager > Processes tab (hit ctl-alt-del)
Click on the Image Name column to sort things alphabetically.
Do you see itunes.exe in there?
