Can anyone help me resolve this error?
Thanks,
AshokHi,
We finally got this issue resolved. I think the error was because the source database server was running 64 bit Oracle 9.2.0 and we installed a 32 bit Oracle 9.2.0 database on the target server. We then did a fresh install of 64 bit Oracle 9.2.0 database on the target server and the restoration worked. Also, after copying all the backup files to the target DB server, change the access rights of all those files and the folder containing them to 777.
Thanks,

Error while cloning database to a different host
Hi,
I'm using rman to clone a database from host1 to host2. The directory structures on host2 is different from host1 for the datafiles and control file.
I have changed the init.ora file on host2 to reflect the new path for the control files.
Within the run command I have:
run{

GROUP 3 ('/u04/oradata/AUX/redo03a.log',
'/u05/oradata/AUX/redo03b.log') SIZE 100M;
When I run the command I get the error as:

Not necessary. UPDATE can be asynch as well.
Can you turn the trace on like pointed by Michal and then you can see the Query in the Audit Log of the adapter montioring. Try to execute the same query from your DB Client like TOAD and see what is the Syntax error you are getiing.!
The problem looks like some field has some dataype / column name mismatch.

Below is the content of my /etc/oratab file...
# This file is used by ORACLE utilities. It is created by root.sh
# and updated by the Database Configuration Assistant when creating
# a database.
# A colon, ':', is used as the field terminator. A new line terminates
# the entry. Lines beginning with a pound sign, '#', are comments.
# Entries are of the form:
# $ORACLE_SID:$ORACLE_HOME:<N|Y>:
# The first and second fields are the system identifier and home
# directory of the database respectively. The third filed indicates
# to the dbstart utility that the database should , "Y", or should not,
# "N", be brought up at system boot time.
# Multiple entries with the same $ORACLE_SID are not allowed.

I wonder if the ORATAB file for 10.2 version is different form the one of 10.1...

Error while creating database using DBCA
Hi,
I installed Oracle10gR2 on my windows machine.Now am creating a database with dbca but just after i click the finish button it gives me the error -
Cannot create directory "F:\oracle\cfgtoollogs\dbca\ora10g" where F:\oracle is the directory where i have installed Oracle 10g and ora10g is the database name.
I have full permission on the folders.Can anyone please let me know what is the problem here.
Regards,
SomdHi OrionNet,
At last i could create the database successfully.But these are the issues I faced and am listing down the solution so that it can help others too.
1.I could not find the Administrative Tools-> Local security Policy --> Local Policies --> User Right Assignment in the Windows Vista Home Premium.I went and checked many blogs and forums on where is it located.It seems it is not included in the home premium and people are having a tough time working out the round abouts.
2.The problem was that my UAC (User Account Control) in the Windows Security Center was turned on which was not allowing me to create the database.I turned it off,and it created the db smoothly.
Thanks a lot for your help..I really appreciate it :)
Regards,
Somd -

Team,
I got an error while creating a User for Domain Account. Below is the screen shot of the error (error : 15401)
Database instance is on SQL 2000 SP3. ( I know it is out of support, But the customer is relutanct to upgrade)
On Google search, i found below article which is best matching for this error
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324321
I have follows each step of troubleshooting. But still the issue persists.
Step 1. The login does not exist == The login is very much exist in the domain as i am able to add the same domain id to other database instances
Step 2. Duplicate security identifiers == i have used this query to find duplicate SID
/* SELECT name FROM syslogins WHERE sid = SUSER_SID ('YourDomain\YourLogin') */
But there was only one row returned with create date of today's.
Error while Assigning database level role (db_datareader) to SQL login (Domain Account)
Step 3. Authentication failure == Domain is available. User is able to login on other servers via RDP connection.
Step 4. Case sensitivity == Database collation is set to Case insensitivity. (CI)
Other two 5. Local Accounts & 6. Name resolution == is not applicable to me.
I tried other ways also.
A. Creating login and providing permission in one go only = User account is not created
B. Instead of GUI, use query to create login and provide required permission = Same error.
Does anybody has faced any such situation

How do I move databases using RMAN with minimal downtime ?
How can I do the following using RMAN ?
DB version 10.2.0.4
Redhat 5.2
I am not using an rman catalogIn the past I have moved large databases from 1 server to another with 5 minutes downtime using backups done the old way by putting tablespaces in backup mode and making copies of the datafiles.
I used the following method :
========> Part 1
STARTUP NOMOUNT
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE set DATABASE "VPMY" RESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG
MAXLOGFILES 32
MAXLOGMEMBERS 3
....etc
LOGFILE
......... log file names
DATAFILE
... list of datafiles
CHARACTER SET US7ASCII;
========> Part 2
Up until the scheduled downtime, I would copy the archive logs from the production server to the new and run the following to apply the latest archive logs:
RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE UNTIL CANCEL;
->AUTO<-
========> Part 3
After applying the last archive log while in restrict mode -
ALTER DATABASE OPEN resetlogs;
My question is, how do I do Part 2 in RMAN. I have managed to duplicate databases and restore databases using rman to a different server, but this obviously only covers the data upto the backup point. How can I do the above parts 1 -3 with downtime of about 5 minutes like I have done using old methods ?
Any help is much appreciated/you should be able to recover as you go with rman as well..
copy the archived logs from A to B and apply them as they come in.
run
set until sequence x thread 1;
recover database;
if you're not opening the database after recovery you can just increment the set until sequence as the logs come in and do a new recovery. -

Hi All,
I am getting this error while creating database in classic application.
com.hyperion.planning.olap.EssbaseException: Failed to create database, error code [%s] (1013221).
Can anyone please let me know why I am getting it?
Thanks in advanceCan you check for a more specific error code in the Application log? There can be various reasons for this:
1. For data storage and binary installation, Essbase supports the use of any disk array device mounted with a local file system interface (for example, NTFS, HPFS, JFS, VxFS, and UFS). A disk array mounted using NFS or CIFS is not supported.Use any disk array device mounted with a local file system interface (for example, NTFS, HPFS, JFS, VxFS, and UFS).
2. Error occurs when deploy Planning application with double byte enabled. When the plan name is changed to English, deploy will be successful. This issue can be fixed by setting Correct Essbase ESSLANG system value.
3. The Essbase User that creates the application and DB folders has default ACL rw-rw-rw which does not allow the essbase app to create files inside the folder.
