Estimating an application's requirements

Hello,
I'm new to estimating an application's size requirements. I am looking at APEX hosting companies and am wondering which of their service plans to choose and if a provider that uses 10g express will serve my needs. For example, I want to know if I'll outgrow a plan with 50MG of oracle space in a few months or a few years and if I should start with a provider with full 10gR2 edition rather than Express.
I have a basic data capture application where the main table that will grow has 30 rows that will capture text. There will probably be 1500 records created each week. I'll need to keep 2 years of data available at all times.
Any suggestions on how to estimate much db space I will need in in 6 months, 12 months, etc? This is harder than building the actual application!
Thanks,
Matt

Hmm,
It does not look so hard once you break it down.
2 years of data = 2 * 52 weeks = 104 weeks of data
1500 records/week * 102 weeks = 153000 records you'll need to have at any given point in time
Create your schema on its own tablespace and take note of its size. Then adapt this code to your needs (add columns, change data types, etc):
DECLARE
  x VARCHAR2( 255 );
BEGIN
  x := 'String that resembles you actual data';
  FOR i IN 1..153000 LOOP
    INSERT INTO T1 ( ID, COL1 ) VALUES ( i, x );
  END LOOP;
END;Then you'll have an estimate of how much space you need. You should, of course, take indexes into account.
By the way, I believe this code REALLY could use bind variables.

    "apple application support was not found apple application is required to run ituneshelper please un istall itunes then install itunes again erro 2" ..so what it does mean? ..can somebody help me for this please? thanks

    Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
    Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
    Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
    Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
    Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
    If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

    1. Save iTunes install file to your desktop.
    2. Disconnect from internet.
    3. Disable Firewall/Security software.
    4. Run install. Note that it installs Application Support and a bunch of other software this time.
    5. Run iTunes.
    6. Enable Firewall/Security software.
    7. Reconnect to internet.
    8. Download Watchmen Director's Cut post haste.
    OR!
    (Original post by Cr4z33)
    1. Download and install WinRAR.
    2. Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe icon and choose "Open with WinRAR".
    3. Once the EXE is opened in WinRAR, double-click AppleApplicationSupport.msi and when the installer window is open choose "Repair".

    You could try downloading and installing 7-Zip (free) and downloading a fresh copy of the iTunes installer, unpack the installer into its components using 7-Zip then try a standalone install of AppleApplicationSupport. It may still fail to install but if so you may get useful error messages as to why not.

  • Application store requires that you answer 3 questions for future verification. The questions are stupid and not easy to remember. Why can I not just proceed with my download without this?

    The Application Store requires that you answer 3 questions for future verification. The questions offered are questions that I at least have no clear answer to. What was the first film you saw? and the like. You can say Not now, but then nothong happens and you are back to where you started. Is there a way to proceed with downloading apps without answering these stupid questions?
    I refuse to believe that Apple as an organisation designed these questions - must have been somebody else.

    This is Apple's security feature, you answer the questions or you stop using the account and buy Mac apps elsewhere. Do a search on Secure Notes in the keychain and answer the questions with nonsense answers and store them in a Secure Note for future reference.

  • Need end user application system requirements

    I am writing a proposal for developing an end user DLL or standalone application, using LabVIEW 7 and IMAQ vision. I need to paste in an electronic copy of a description, preferably from NI itself, of what system the user will need, including RAM and disk space requirements, operating system, etc. The software would be developed and tested only on a Windows 2000 machine. This electronic document would be something like the release notes from the LabVIEW Application Builder. Got a URL or something to send by email?

    The Release Notes say:
    "When you deploy an application you build, the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine requires a minimum of 64 MB of RAM and a screen resolution of 800 × 600 pixels for applications that require a screen, but National Instruments recommends 256 MB of RAM and a screen resolution of 1,024 × 768 pixels."
    And on Windows, "The LabVIEW Run-Time Engine requires at least 25 MB of disk space, but National Instruments recommends 155 MB of disk space if you install the default drivers from the National Instruments Device Drivers CD."
    If we need to add more details on this issue, can you please email your feedback to [email protected] so we can address it in a future version of LabVIEW?

  • One or more applications/services require you to verify your Blackberry ID

    About once a day, I get a notification, saying: "One or more applications/services require you to verify your Blackberry ID" There are two problems with this message: It does not tell you which application, could be BBM, Blackberry Protect, Blackberry World, anythingIf a user does not want a Blackberry ID, it should be possible to say "Never notify me again". It is very annoying for users without Blackberry ID to get this notification. Especially when you are in "Work Space only" mode, this notification is not wanted.This is an issue with notifications in general, you should be able to switch them off. For example, I don't want to get notified every time the device goes to Battery Saver mode. A "Never notify me again about this issue" option should be implemented.

While you may not want to use a BBID, you will get alerted, and without such BlackBerry Protect is not connected as well as other BlackBerry services. But, it is your choice of course.The analogy doesn't quite work. My Blackberry is meeting all of my business needs without a BBID. This is more like my car is continually hassling me about an OnStar subscription I don't want or need. I find it a little hard to fathom that there is no way, other than registering another account for another service I don't need, to make this thing shut up. I'm disappointed that this seems to be the case, but I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

  • OFT- Recording Application which require User Authentication

    hi,
    I have recorded the application which requires user authentication and once the recording has been done i have logout from the application. and now if i playback the script ,then again it will playback from the login page.
    So according to my opinion,it should skip the login page at the time of playback the script. But it is not. So what would be the reason for that?

    Actually i have a confusion regarding this note given in the "OFTFunctionalTestingUserGuide pdf"
    "If you record a Visual Script with a login Web page (not a popup dialog box), which may not reappear when you revisit the site due a session cookie, Oracle Functional Testing for Web Applications recognizes the cookie and skips the login page during playback. Oracle Functional Testing for Web Applications logs a message indicating the
    login page was skipped and playback continues with the next page."
    If i m not wrong, when we record the process of visiting the pages on the site from login to log out from the site.
    and when we run the playback scirpt it should be not start from the login page as per the above mentioned note.
    Could u please help me to understand the fact given on the note.
    Thanks

  • MDB/JRun: "Application authentication required. Incorrect method call."

    Hi people!
    I am using a message-driven EJB listening on a queue.
    Everytime a start the server, the server deploys the enterprise

    I dont think you should it on server-side - you can do it in client side logic. Start playing live stream - if no data is coming - i think you can use ns.time for checking this - then switch to recorded file play.
