Euphonix MC (NAMM)

Anybody at NAMM care to report on the new MC controller, i.e. touch and feel?

I ordered mine last week. Euphonix finally put up some info (With a lot of pics) on their website. The real nice thing is you can attach the up to 4 mix consoles and have 36 faders too. Nice to know you can expand it if needed.
Not coming 'till March though

  • "Learn" no longer working with Euphonix?

I've been messing around some more with Euphonix hardware. It seems that since there was 'native support' with Eucontrol 2.5.5 and with LP 9.1.1 there is no ability to assign values to the controls.
This means that Command-L no longer appears to work with any Euphonix hardware.
Likewise, the 'auto-assign' / 'contextual-assign' mode of Euphonix hardware that reassigns faders and knobs to the control surface when launching a software instrument or AU no longer works.
Is this a mistake? Has Apple and Euphonix gone and shot themselves in the foot?
Has anyone found a way of getting all of this to work again?

Trash Logic preference files, boot Logic (a new song, not template) and try to learn some new assignments using Command+K to open the Controller Assignment advanced dialog for instance.

  • Euphonix MC Control - doesn't seem to work for me..

Okay, I've been working with an "Euphonix MC Control" for the day.
The jog wheel doesn't seem to want to work in FCP - or it's full on.
The faders don't seem to want to respond to anything at all.
Nothing seems to be customisable, except for the 'softkeys' - which isn't very interesting to me, as I mainly wanted it for the transport, jogwheel, faders, and knobs.
    Am I missing something?

It speaks Eucon - which is one of the many competing new control languages there are around. Eucon is a nice idea - uses UDP/TCP packets over ethernet - so it can deal with multiple workstations and so on.
The server software is called "EuControl' - and is licensed with the hardware only, as far as I can see.
Yes - I understand what you are saying about volume knobs - but I think that you may be missing my point, which is that I want to be able to assign these faders to arbitrary controls across Mac OS Apps. I can do it with other midi devices - eg with Automap Pro (though Novation hardware doesn't come with mechanized faders - which is annoying).
Having paid a LOT of money for mechanized faders packeged with supposedly fully customisable server system, it's pretty annoying not to be able to use them outside of FCP and Logic.

  • NAMM show report

I was at the NAMM show on thursday.
Apple was showing Logic version 7.2 it's the universal binary version the will run on both intel macs and power macs.
    They fixed up some things.
    1. Worked with Digidesign to get Logic to work better with Digi hardware and TDM.
2.There is a native version of Pitch & Time (time compression/expansion software) as an alternative to the Logic's own time compression.
    3. Better rewire support.
The demo machines were mostly intel macs. They had a macbook pro right next to a dual 2.7 ghz G5. the same song was playing on both machines.
the macbook had about the same processing power of the dual G5 tower.
One of the things I was impressed by was the Apogee Ensemble audio interface. Betty at Apogee told me the interface was co-designed by Apple and Apogee to get the best out of core audio. Next week she said she would get me an evaluation unit to test out. I will let you know how that goes.
There is a control panel within Logic for the Ensemble, that is really cool.
This looks to be the ultimate audio interface for Logic.
I am going to the Namm show again on Sunday so , I will report more after that.

Thanks for the information. If you don't mind me asking, how did you see that the MacBook Pro had the same performance as the 2.7 dual G5? I understand that they were both playing the same project, but did you check the Activity Monitor for a CPU usage comparison?
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Mainstage 2 & Euphonix MC Mix

Have been using MC Mix with my Logic 8. Upgraded to Logic 9, & would like to know if any knows how to utilize the Euphonix MC Mix as a control surface for MainStage 2.
Running MS2 in 32 bit mode, therefore no issue with Eucon protocol for Logic 9.
I know you can map Midi signals to controls, but with the MC Mix using Eucon protocol possible.
Layout mode recognizes the Euphonix mixer, but will not learn.
Any help ideas or ridicule appreciated

I've decided to "take the plunge" and jump right into Logic 8. The few days I spent mucking with Garage Band really helped as there are some similarities with Logic. With the help of forums like this and Apples' superb printed manuals which accompany Logic 8, the task seems quite "doable" for a relative newcomer to computer based recording. I just got my Euphonix today and I KNOW it works beautifully with Logic. Just for fun I may give it a try with Garage Band and see if indeed it does work. Thanks for the replies guys!

  • Euphonix MC MIX and Logic 9.0.x = no tracks volume values display

    Hi,
Did anybody noticed that, since introduction of Logic 9.0.1 update, the track volume values aren't showed in the MC MIX display anymore? Euphonix support says that they are aware of the problem and are working close to Apple to resolve the issue, but that a fix would demand a new update from Apple.
Does anyone have some info from Apple side? Any light on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
    see ya

Got this from the Avid Support group: Go to Library/application support/Euphonix/Usersets/MC2User/MC_USER_SET_Root/ and make a copy of the Logic Pro.xml file. Then paste it back into the same folder but rename it Logic Pro X.xml. That should then open your old button settings for your MC Control. This worked for me and one other, so I hope it will work for everyone. There may be some different commands that will have to be changed in the button settings for LPX but I haven 't had a chance to check all of that out yet. I'm just happy this worked, I didn't like the idea of inputting all of the button settings from the start!

  • 10.5.7 - not working with Euphonix MC Mix :-(

Oh, what a fun day this has turned out to be!
I installed 10.5.7 last night and everything seemed to work okay. Great! Shut my iMac down and went to bed. Booted it up this morning, could not get EuControl to turn green. Went to the Euphonix site, saw that they had an update (1.3.0), installed that, still could not connect.
Googled "10.5.7 Euphonix" and there was a reference to this problem at Gearslutz. Tried to connect to Gearslutz, their site is dead. GREAT!
Went back to Euphonix' site and called their tech support phone number... and got Fred's voicemail. "Hi, this is Fred, sorry I'm not available, please leave your name and number."
    What the....?
    Is it just me?

  • Euphonix not working with logic

    Please help.
I cannot figure this out. I have a MC control artist series with two MX mix connected via ethernet switch.
    1) EuCon software crashes a lot (often together with logic). The software and firmware is up to date.
    2) The MC shows that its connected with logic but suddenly the touchscreen doesn't show any functions anymore. And the MC mix display doen't show the tracks. And yes, Logic is always on top.
The faders do not respond. When I switch to the finder and go back to the application the Euphonix works for half a minute, than the same problem again.
This happens on my G5 as well as on my new iMac (Mac OS 10.5.8) and it was the same problem with 10.5.6.
    I appreciate your feedback,
    desperately Eddie

    Hi,
You might want to go back a version or two of the EuCon software, since you are on 10.4.11 or at least your signature says so...
Also check the ethernet cables, make sure they're connected properly.
Please contact Euphonix for further support on this.
    Cheers

  • Final Cut Express 4 and Euphonix MC transport

  • Euphonix MC Mix with Logic Pro 7 (not 8)

    Has anyone picked up this:
    http://www.euphonix.com/artist/products/mc_mix/
And had it connected up to Logic Pro 7? (not Logic Pro 8, I upgraded but stayed with 7)
The Euphonix can use the HUI protocol, so it should function, and I'm very close to buying this - I was just wondering how the user experience felt (especially with regard Inserts etc). Good or bad purchase? I cannot demo the unit; no importer in Hong Kong.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

    Sup All,
I tried one of the MC Mix units that my friend picked up although we couldn't successfully used both units at the same time due to a Ethernet jack issue that i determined later by connecting one unit at a time.
Setup and Config were a breeze. I used it intensively in Logic Pro. I like all the functions for it works almost as if it were a Mackie Controller. But, one thing that could make it a deal breaker for now is that it is very sluggish in response waiting for logic to send the proper Data to the unit or vice-versa.
Even when the MC Mix was not plug to my system everything was still slow; so it is safe to assume it's a Eucon Software issue. Once I did uninstall Logic worked flawless.
With that unit you can do literally anything a Mix Controller does. So, optimistic thoughts say they, meaning Euphonix will workout the issues within weeks.( Unofficially )
    PROs
    Mixer felt great.
    Look Great.
Can be used while you are connected to the internet.
    Usage is excellent
Easy IP Config. Dynamic or static.
Instantiating Inserts, Software Instruments is excellent
Everything as the demo shows. http://www.euphonix.com/artist/products/mc_mix/video.php
    The Riser is cool
A New Software installer replaces the Cd that comes with the units
    CONS
    Sluggish
The OLED Displays don't show Values until you touch the knobs or faders.
    WISHES
    Meter Bridge or Better Meters
    Counter or Measure Displays
And lastly... Don't know if it's Gigabit or Megabit Ethernet Connection.
I connected it directly to my Computer as well as through two Ethernet Hub; Same Results every time.
( Minus the Internet of course at some points )

  • FCE and Euphonix MC Transport

Is there any reason why Euphonix MC transport does not support FCE4 when it works with Logic, FCP,Garage Band and Sound track pro?

    Because Apple decided not to?
Who knows...well, Apple does. And they don't hang out here.

  • AVID Announces Agreement to Acquire Euphonix?

I have just seen on the AVID website that they have acquired the Apple Power Trio partner, Euphonix. Quite what this means for the future of controlling Logic, I'm not sure, as I have only just seen the news for myself. If anyone else would care to comment, I would be interested to know!

But, since Logic Pro 9.1.1, is still somewhat buggy
I had different troubles with EuCon and Logic within the last year with different versions of logic (PPC and Intel). I do not know which components are responsible. Although if there are incompatible AU Plug-Ins logic AU manager should detect the problems before crashing. I had the power trio crash quite often. Mostly both applications crashed together.
I had this happen on different machines and with different MC Units. I was hoping its more stable. This is the main reason which keeps me from getting a MCPro.
    Eddie
    Hi,
The EuCon protocol... it is not an AU plug-in. It is a special driver used only for the Euphonix equipment.
Here is what the Euphonix techs recommended I do :
Every time I update any audio related software, to run permissions repair on my system drive.
Sometimes the EuCon driver permissions get whacked, so you need to reset them to the proper settings.
I've had a MC Control and an MC Mix for a little over 13 months, and when it acts up, I do the repair permissions, and that solves the issue.
Also, do have the correct drivers from them, for your Mac OS
    Cheers
