I am getting below error on SharePoint 2010 Foundation server which will not support Excel Service.
Unexpected error when trying to access service settings in the configuration database. Make sure the proxy for this service application is a member of the default proxy group for the active web application. Error = ExcelServerWebServiceApplication.Local:
Could not get the web application associated with this context. This indicates that the Excel Server service is not properly registered or provisioned.. Help me get rid of it..

  • Can you run multiple Excel Services Applications against a single Web Application?

I have been struggling with this one for a while now, hopefully someone can help me understand what I am missing...
I have a single SharePoint Farm.  This farm runs multiple Web Applications & the Service Applications.
    1. SharePoint Only Server with Multiple Site Collections (http://sharepoint.com/...)
    2. MS Project Server with Multiple Site Collections (http://pwa.com/...)
    3. My services applications all exist on the same farm.
I was under the impression, and believe that I validated this through testing and from this site (http://blogs.office.com/2009/11/16/excel-services-in-sharepoint-2010-administration-improvements),
that you can only run a single Excel Services Application against each unique Web Application.  In essence, I can run one Excel Services Application against the SharePoint Only Server, and another Excel Services Application against the MS Project
Server...  However, I can NOT run multiple Excel Services Applications against the different Site Collections within the MS Project Server becuase it is only aware of its "default" Excel Service Application.
ie. I can NOT do the following:  ExcelServiceApp1 for
    http://pwa.com/SiteA & ExcelServiceApp2 for
    http://pwa.com/SiteB
    Is that correct?
If that is not correct, then I must be missing a way to specify a different Excel Service App for each Project Web App Site.
Some other solutions that I think may work, but would really appreciate if someone could validate:
    - Create multiple Project Server Service Applications for each instance of PWA/Excel Service? (but wouldn't this still have to use one of the two WebApplications and cause the same limitation?)
    - Create a new Web Applciation for each PWA/Excel Service? (ie.
    http://pwasite1.com;
    http://pwasite2.com; http://pwasite3.com, etc.)
    Thoughts/suggestions are very greatly appreciated!!!

    Hello Trpy2k
I have not done what you are doing and I assume that you are using project server 2010.  However, you answer lives in PowerShell.
The New-WebServiceProxy show that you can create a new proxy by spacing a URL and not a web application. The default proxy from the web application is directing to the default excel service.  If you need another excel service, you must specify another
proxy and this may do it for you.
Also, don't forget the Secure State service and that each excel report will need this configured, that is with the assumption that the other excel service requires different authentication.
PS.  This question may get a better answer in the SharePoint forums.

  • Error occurred while accessing application id Excel services application unattended service account from secure store service

    Hi,
I follow up the book "Professional SharePoint 2013 Administration" to build the SharePoint 2013 BI include Excel Services. and created the Secure Store services to save the user SP_Install for member.
For Now, I can upload the worksheet and open it in browser, but when I tried to refresh it, the SP 2013 show error "Error occurred while accessing application id Excel services application unattended service account from secure store service".
does anybody can help ? and do I need to turn on C2WTS ?
    Thanks
    James Liang

    Hi James,
Excel Services can be used with Secure Store in three primary scenarios:
    Unattended Service Account
    Embedded Connections
    External Data Connections
If you haven't configure unattended service account yet, you could refer to the article below:

  • Question regarding the powershell creation of service applications in SharePoint 2010/2013

    Hi
I create all my service applications in SharePoint 2010/2013 using Powershell.
Is there a "best practice" when to start the service Instance for a service application? Is it better to start the service instance prior to creating a service application or after the service application has been create?
    I'm curious.
    best regards
    Bjorn

Not that i'm aware of. If it works then go for it.
I would tend to build the service application and only then activate the instances on servers, however that is going to depend heavily on the application in question. The real heavyweights like Search are a special case in any event.

  • What is the purpose of User-Defined Functions under Excel Service Application?

Hello, I have done a lot of research and have concluded that we cannot use VBA present under Excel sheet code in sharepoint.
Today I was reading on excel services in sharepoint. I came across User-defined functions under Excel Service Application settings. I believe that User defined functions refer to the Calculations and VBA (am I wrong on this?).
If true, then, does this bring hope that we can use embedded VBA code present into excel sheet in SharePoint also?

    Hi Nachiket,
When you set  ‘Allow External Data’ to None, it disables all external data connections for the trusted file location.
When you set  ‘Allow External Data’ to ‘Trusted data connection libraries and embedded’, it enables connections that are embedded in the workbook file or connections that are stored in a trusted data connection library.
More information, please refer to the link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219699.aspx
As your description, when you tried to set Allow External Data to None, the external data also was displayed, it may be caused by data cache or time delay.
    I hope this helps.

  • Error in Create a Reporting Services Service Application in SharePoint

I have a problem when trying to setup "SSRS ad on" on SharePoint 2013 server :
    - i have azure farm for SharePoint
    - Server A is SQL2012 SP1 and reporting services is installed and running on it
    - Server B is SharePoint 2013 with Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 SP1 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft® SharePoint®
    - by using power shell in SharePoint server i successfully installed and Ran "the Insall-SPRSService and Install-SPRSServiceProxy" on Central Admin and SSRS server.
    - when i reach to the step of Create a Reporting Services Service Application from "SharePoint Central Administration" i face this error "Could not find SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\120 registry key"
    Please Advice

    Hi Rehab Essam,
According to your description, you are installing reporting services of sharepoint integrated mode, you installed SQL Server 2012 and reporting services in server A, SharePoint 2013 and Reporting Services Add-in on server B. When you create a Reporting Services
Service Application, you got the error message.
According to my knowledge, to join a report server to a SharePoint farm, the report server must be installed on a computer that has an instance of a SharePoint product or technology. We can install the report server before or after installing the SharePoint
product or technology instance. Then we can install Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint Products.
For more information about Installing Reporting Services SharePoint Mode for SharePoint 2013, please refer to the following document:

  • Service application in sharepoint 2010

    hi all,
i'm new to sharepoint. i have a small problem, i have created a customer service application and deploey it to sharepoint and tested it, and everything worked fine for me. now i checked the IIS and under Sharepoint Web Services i couldn't find my service,
can anybody tell what can be the cause for such an issue and how i can see the guid of my service under Sharepoint Web Services in IIS (Make sure that this is a custom service application).
    thanks very much !!

    Hi,
if you deploy the custom service application, we can’t find it under SharePoint Web Service site in IIS. We can find it in SharePoint Central Administration.

  • Excel Services Connectivity on Sharepoint 2013 for external user

Currently , external user is able to refresh the data on sharepoint site through browser. the data connection is pointing the one of the external data source. But how can an external user (Internet user which accessing sharepoint through internet) download
a copy of excel in sharepoint library and open the excel workbook with data refresh ability at client machine ?
Do we need client machine to be able to access / ping the external data source?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the response.
They want to perform data analysis and design their own report with own template , for example : to remove subtotal from the powerpivot tables which we cannot change the formatting at the excel services at browser level.
So if i understand correctly, we need to get the client machine to be able to access to the database server directly to get the access to the cube for data analysis although we had this odc file connection setup, am i right?
For internal user, network team should open port / access for them to access database server directly.
For external user, either to open public access to the database server directly or setup a VPN connection for the external user to access the database server in their secure network.
Let me know if i understand this correctly.
    Thanks.

  • Error Creating Web Application in Sharepoint Foundation 2010.

    Hi,
I am getting below error while creating new Web Application in SharePoint.
Could not connect to Sharepoint using integrated security: SQL server at has an unsupported version 10.0.2531.0.
I am using SharePoint Foundation 2010. SQL Server Version is
    "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP1) - 10.0.2531.0 (X64)   Mar 29 2009 10:11:52   Copyright (c) 1988-2008 Microsoft Corporation  Developer Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.2 <X64> (Build 9200: ) (VM)"
My SQLServer version is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP1) Developer edition. How could i resolve this issue.
    Thanks & Regards
    Poomani Sankaran

    Hi Poomani,
    Upgrade to
SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition and it will work with SharePoint Foundation 2010. Ensure that you only use this developer edition on your development server.
SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition has same code base and same features which are available in SQL Server
2008 R2 Enterprise Edition. Only difference between them is licensing terms. Developer Edition can not be used in production environment and it can be used on development server only.

  • Team Foundation Server 2013 with SharePoint Foundation 2013 - Search not available?

    Hello,
we installed a TFS 2013  and let it deploy SharePoint Foundation on the same server. We are now faced with the fact that search in the teamsites is not working. I tried to get that search service up and running in a number of ways but it appears
as if there's no search service at all.
I have seen all the blogs where people are explaining how to provision a search service application for SharePoint Foundation but none of these ways work.
So, my question... is it possible to get it working?
PS. Please don't advice to post this on the TFS forum... I'm coming from there. They just closed my question as answered with the advice to post it in the SharePoint forum.
    TIA,
    Bart

    Well,
When you go to the Search Settings in the Site Actions menu of a site, a message is displayed that there's no search Service. Which is kind of normal since there's no Search Service Application provisioned.
When I go to Central Administration => Services on Server => There's no Search Service.
When I go to Central Administration and I run the configuration wizard, there's no search service application to be provisioned.
There's a Search Administration section in the General Settings but it only displays the upper section. The lower section (with the Search Service Application information) just gives me nothing. An animated loading icon.
I tried to provision the services with psconfig (psconfig -cmd services -install) but there's still no search service to be found anywhere. After this, I do have a Search Host Controller service but when I try to start it in Central Administration, it just
    gives me an error.
I'm starting to think it's not a full SharePount Foundation which is shipped with TFS.
The only thing we want to achieve is that a user can search for a document he uploads in a team site which is created by TFS. Seems not possible... unless I'm missing something here.

  • Provision Search in SharePoint Foundation 2013 without Domain Controller / Active Directory - Domain accounts

    Hi,
I have successfully setup SharePoint Foundation 2013 as single server farm with SQL Server Standard database in a DMZ environment using local accounts since DMZ doesn't have an Active Directory and hence Domain accounts using powershell as described
    in https://theblobfarm.wordpress.com/2012/12/03/installing-sharepoint-2013-without-a-domain-controller
When I run Farm configuration wizard to provision search service application, I get an error:
ERROR: "The service application(s) for the service "Search Service Application" could not be provisioned because of the following error: I/O error occurred."
The log file logged the details of this error as:
ERROR: "Failed to create file share Analytics_e441aa1c-1a8d-4f0a-a079-58b499eb4c50 at D:\SharePoint Search\Office Server\Analytics_e441aa1c-1a8d-4f0a-a079-58b499eb4c50 (System.ArgumentException: The SDDL string contains an invalid sid or a sid
    that cannot be translated."
After investigation, I found that potentially the error could be because the timer service is trying to setup a network share for analytics component (as part of provisioning search). It is trying to setup that share with a domain account that happens to
be a local user instead in this case and fails with error “System.ArgumentException: The SDDL string contains an invalid sid or a sid that cannot be translated”.
I got some pointer from the below thread
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c8e93984-f4e5-46da-8e8a-c5c79ea1ff62/error-creating-search-service-application-on-sharepoint-foundation-with-local-account?forum=sharepointadmin
However, the above thread doesn't state that the solution worked.
I have tried creating share manually for Analytics_<Guid> folder but it doesn't work since every time farm configuration wizards is run it creates a new Analytics_<Guid> folder.
Since, I have setup SharePoint Foundation 2013 on a production environment I cannot test and trial various solutions.
Can some please guide me on how to successfully provision search for SharePoint Foundation 2013 setup as a single server farm with SQL Server Standard database in a DMZ environment using local accounts (without Active Directory - domain accounts).
    Thanks in advance.
    Himanshu

Microsoft documentation doesn't always specifically call out all products (Project Server isn't there, either). But it does apply. You'll need to stand up at least one Domain Controller, or allow port access back to a DC.
Preferably, set up SharePoint on the internal network and use a reverse proxy (which will terminate client connections at the reverse proxy) present in the DMZ.
