Every iPhone update fails and send phone into recovery mode

I'm getting extremely frustrated, and I know I'm not the only one after searching Google, that every time an update is released for the iPhone mine fails and goes into recovery mode then works the second time. It has happened on every release of iPhone software since owning a 3G and then the 3GS. My 2G never had the problem. Is there a cause and solution to the problem?

I thought mine was sorted on the second attempt this time but it wasn't. It took 6 attempts!
To get it working finally I done the following:
Restarted the computer
Made sure iTunes was updated to version 9
Located the 3.1 install file and delete it - Located in users/yourusername/library/itunes/iphonesoftwareupdates on the mac - not sure on a pc
Reopen iTunes and complete the restore and install. It had to redownload the update but worked this time round.

  • Ios 8.0.2 update failed and forced iPad into recovery mode.

I attempted to download and install the 8.0.2 update to my iPad without using iTunes.  At some point during the install, it failed and sent my iPad into recovery mode asking to be plugged into iTunes.  I have pugged into iTunes and attempted numerous times to restore the device to factory settings.  iTunes will spend a couple hours downloading the update and then fail to install it.  One time I got an error code that said "The iPad could not be restored. An unknown error occured (3014)".
My iPad's data is now lost and I can't get it out of it's locked up condition.  It's become a very expensive paper weight.  Yes, I 'm outside of warranty.  But my device's hardware was working perfectly before I tried to install their new software.  Does Apple do anything to help?

    Hi baleslie,
Thanks for giving the details of the error you are getting.  That would frustate me too.
Recovery from the error "3014" is discussed in this article
Error 3194, Error 17, or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
It primarily sounds like an issue contacting the update server. Please check it out.
    Take care,
    Nubz

  • I tried to download iOS7 to my iPhone 4, it put my phone into recovery mode and every time I try to restore it, it says it failed? HELP

I have an iPhone 4, I tried to download iOS 7 from iTunes tonight. I made sure my iTunes was up to date and everything, and while it was downloading iOS7 my screen went black and the iTunes symbol with the USB cord popped up onto it and in my iTunes tab, it said that it detected an iPhone in recovery mode and to restore/update it. I've tried it twice already, resetting my laptop twice and I don't know what to do someone please help!

I think this could help. Also, there are links to other posts for a bunch of possible soultions. I'd try this first. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • I just plugged my phone into my ITunes to update it and it went into recovery mode?!

All I did was plug it and and i was waitng for it to connect to the computer and it started to update and then next thing i know the screen changes and it has a itunes symbol and a plug and the screen tells me its in recovery mode and now it says i need to set it back to factory settings?! I havent synced recently how can i do something without losing stuff on my phone?

If you guys were performing iCloud backups, you might be able to retrieve all of your media, contacts and apps. You could restore the device, and hit "Restore from iCloud backup", then sign into your appleID to chekc.

  • My iPhone 4S crashed and then went into recovery mode. What happened?

So I was using my iPhone today, and the screen wouldn't turn on. I assumed it had frozen and power-cycled it using the power- and home-buttons. Then I turned it back on, and it told me to plug my iPhone into iTunes. So I did, and iTunes attempted to update my device to iOS 8.1.3 (which it already had). It couldn't, and I had to restore my device to factory settings and then I had to restore from a backup. I'm curious as to why this happened?
Side note: When I plugged iPhone into iTunes, the serial number was marked as n/a, and instead of "[my name]'s iPhone" it was named iPhone 4S. Why is this? What happened?

Try plugging it in to iTunes. If I'm correct, when you plug it into your computer and open iTunes it should say "Device in Recovery Mode" or something. The only negative is that the only option from there is to restore your phone. If you have an iCloud backup you should be able to restore and back up once again and have the same data.

  • I updated my iphone 5 to ios 6.something to get rid of a notification and it went into recovery mode!!! My photos are not backed up or on icloud. i havent restored yet bc i cannot lose my photos but tinyumbrella wont work. HELP! please:(

My photos are not backed up or on icloud. i havent restored yet because i cannot lose my photos/videos, etc. but tinyumbrella wont work to exit recovery mode. HELP! please:(
i tried tinyumbrella (and another similar software) to exit recovery but it only remains on the apple logo stuck there. please is there anything else i can do? i've contacted apple and they have told me the only choice i have is to restore and lose all my data.
my iphone isn't jailbroken and i've updated before without this problem so i'm not sure what has happened. is there anyyy hope please ???

First I would try to hold down the power and the home button for about 15sec, but at least as long as the iPhone restarts, if it is still stuck or still in recovery mode then I can suggest you the tool "Wondershare Dr. Fone for iOS", it is both a Windows and Mac tool and I just used it today to get my iPad out of the Recovery mode.
Tell me if any of these options worked for you.

  • TS2529 iOS update throws phone into recovery mode - HELP

The current iOS update seems to have thrown the phone into recovery mode now requiring restoration through iTunes. Of course I don't have photo stream on and fear losing all my photos. Any way around this?

Reset, hold both the home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart. If this works great. If not you may have to Restore the iPhone to get it working again. If you decide to do this you may even have to use DFU Mode to Restore. Here are the steps for DFU. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power button, after exactly 10 seconds release the Power Button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time. If the iPhone screen is black, blank this is DFU Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes.

  • I was updating my iphone to ios 8 and it went into recovery mode. i went onto itunes to fix it and it said i needed to update my phone. when i clicked on it it said it would take 500  hrs and kept going on, then it would crash. plz help. :(

yesterday i tried updating to Ios 8. i new there were going to be some problems but i decided to do it. i started the update and less than a half hour into it my phone completely crashed.it went into recovery mode so i connected it to iTunes. i hit restore and update . it gave me and estimated time that kept going up. finally when it got to 800 hours it stopped and said an error occurred. i tried it again and the same error occurred. i am very disappointed in this because i greatly need my phone for school and other important things. i wasn't gonna wait that time anyway. i would like to know if there is anyway i don't have to update, get out of this screen without waiting forever, speed up the time, or get my computer to not crash when it gets to so many hours. (i have windows) plz help me out asap!!!

I have experienced a similar error with the iPhone 4S.  The new version of iTunes will not let me restore the phone, it must be updated and nothing appears to be happening.  Suffice it to say I am not amused.  Apple needs to work this out - I had trouble updating to 8.0.2 as well.

  • I keep getting a 3014 or -1 error after I tried to update my phone and it went into recovery mode. What do I do?

I was updating from 6 to 6.1.2 and my phone went into recovery mode. I usually get a 3014 error but sometimes it gets past the USB screen and goes about halfway through the apple screen and gets a -1 error. I don't have firewalls, no antivirus, the only thing I have is a mandatory college internet connection program that I don't think I can get rid of. What should I do
Also, I already tried to "Hold both home and power button, let go of the home button at the apple screen" but it didn't work.

That is usually a result of an iPhone that at one time has been hacked, jailbroken, or rolled back. Try it on a different computer.

  • I have just updated my iphone and its gone into recovery mode how do i get it back without losing everything?

hi, please help i have just tried updating the software on my phone and it says it has gone into recovery mode and it wants to reset it - how do i get it out of this without losing everything?

If the iPhone is in recovery mode, everything is already gone. Restore from
    iCloud or your back up.

  • Updated to new iOS, sent into recovery mode, iTunes shows error every time I try to restore

This morning I went to download the new software, I think iOS 7.1.2, and it sent me straight into recovery mode. I have downloaded the latest iTunes to make sure that was up to date and attempted to restore my phone, since I don't know any other way to get it out of recovery mode. I've tried three times and it goes through the whole process and then says there's an error and it can't restore this iPhone because it's unrecognizable. Sooo what to try now??

    Has your device been jailbroken?
What is the exact error and code you are receiving?

  • Is there a reason why the iOS 7 update put my phone into recovery mode?

I was prompted to update my phone, which I did, and when it finished downloading, I got the "Connect to iTunes" screen, which I thought was odd. The iTunes tells me it was put into recovery mode. Is there any reason as to why this happened?

Oh no! My iTunes doesn't want to recognize my phone now either.
