Every other time I type cmd k for keyboard in Logic Pro X, the track that is selected is muted.

The title kind of says it all. Every other time that I press the shortcut for onscreen keys, the selected track is muted. By that I mean if I press cmd+k it brings up the keyboard unmuted, then press cmd+k to get rid of it and it's still fine, but the next time I press cmd+k to bring the keyboard back up, the track is muted.
Only noticed this today, and don't know what I did. Please Help!

Figured it out! On the menu bar I clicked Logic Pro X > Control Surfaces > Learn Assignment for "Mute", which meant that I Mute was the last command that I had clicked on. In the (No Zone) section, there was a Learned Assignment, and I simply clicked delete and it disappeared. Now everything is just fine.

Fails to find HD on boot up every other time

Starting in mid-November, shortly after replacing the battery and upgrading to 10.4.3, my ibook would not find the HD during boot up every other time I went to use it. I tried booting from the installation disc 10.4, resetting, PRAM, PMU, NVRAM, etc. but nothing short of putting the computer away for the rest of the day helped. The next day it boots up normally. If it goes to sleep, it starts the SBBOD and freezes. If I shut it down, it fails to boot up, only displaying the file folder with the alternating Mac face/question mark. The only solution is to just let it sit.
This computer is within the range of serial numbers for the logic board recall, but did not display any symptoms within the three years, and now that is over. I don't understand the regularity with which it intermittently works and fails without anything being done to it.
BTW, I have reinstalled 10.4, repaired permissions, done one update at a time, repairing permissions in between and it worked fine for two days and has again failed to find the HD on boot up. I have the same software on my Power PC (the same age) and have no trouble whatsoever. I'm typing this from that computer.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.

4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.

If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Native application installer fails on Mac 10.5.8 every other time

Hello,
I have a native AIR 2.0 application with a native installer which I silently install as a part of a bigger package.
On Mac, I have a DMG which contains the native installer app and a shell script which copies the native installer app into a temporary folder, and then invokes it passing "-silent" option.
For some reasons the native installer fails every other time, i.e. if I install the app and then move it to trash and then try to re-install, the installer fails.
However if I try re-installing once again, installation succeeds. I can consistently reproduce this problem.
This seems to happen only on Mac OS 10.5.8. On 10.6.0 and above everything seems to work fine.
What can be the reason for such inconsistent behavior?
OS version is Mac OS 10.5.8, CPU: 2.8GHz Intel Core Duo

The only argument I pass into the installer command line is "-silent", i.e. the command line looks like
"/tmp/PixelNovel/Install Timeline.app/Contents/MacOS/Install Timeline" -silent
I've noticed that the installer fails only if it's called from a wrapper package. If I invoke the above command line directly from Terminal, the installer consistently succeeds.

SQLPlus works every other time

Every other time I login into sqlplus I get

ORA-06553: PLS-213 package STANDARD is not accessible

The PL/SQL compiler could not find package STANDARD in the current Oracle database. To compile a program, PL/SQL needs package STANDARD.
Make sure that package STANDARD is available in the current Oracle database, then retry the operation.
Query all_source table :
select distinct name,type from all_source
where type = 'PACKAGE'
and name like 'STAND%';
If you dont get no rows selected, then
try to check for the same logged in as
sys or system.
This package is installed default by Oracle

Does the iOS device see the network?
Any error messages?
Try right next to the router
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Mac book pro doesn't wake up every other time with external monitor

It is related to 'Put display to sleep' as I managed to find out. When you have 'put display to sleep' turned on, every other time screen doest turn back on, nor external nor internal, sometimes internal lits up and there is just blue screen, not desktop. You can't do anything except turning notebook off. No mouse, no keyboard, nothing, there is no mouse pointer either. I didn't experiment without external monitor, though, maybe it hangs up too.
This thing did cost me $2800. Can it atleast work as it supposed too?
I set it to 'never sleep', 'never sleep display', but frankly, it *****. When I need to go out, I just turn monitor off.
Is apple doing anything to resolve that issue? Do they read these forums?

Submit to an iframe, only happens every other time

We have a navigation (tree widget) that is generated with JavaScript. Clicking on the tree nodes is supposed to load an url i the content iframe.
A hidden form is used for this. By clicking on a tree node a hidden inputs field value is set and the hidden form is submitted that does a post to the iframe (using target on the form).
First question would be if this is the best solution for this. Feels a bit hacky.
But the main problem is that the form is only submitted every other time.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
>In Firefox 4 Safe mode also disables plugins (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and hardware acceleration (Tools > Options > Advanced > General)

Deploying Windows Service Fails Every Other Time

I'm using Release Management 2013 to deploy a Windows service. I go through the steps listed below to deploy it. It fails on the first step (Delete Service) every other time. When I run it again, it works. It seems like it's saying
it failed, but is somehow actually succeeding. After it fails, I don't see the service in the Services list anymore. Then when I run the deployment again, it succeeds.
I have found that if I manually stop the service before deploying again, it will always succeed. There doesn't seem to be a good way of doing that in Release Management though, since the Stop Service action will error out if the service doesn't exist.
Any help would be appreciated!

The above code works in all cases that I've run it for. You can either edit the existing ManageWindowsServices script, or simply create a new one. I opted for the latter.
Note: This is my first attempt at using Powershell, so there may well be a better way of doing the above.

Encoder crashes every other time I render.

Didn't have this problem three weeks ago. Encoding a two hour movie was no problem. Now, every other time it crashes when I start rendering even with a short 30 min portion of movie,
Equipment-
Late 2013 iMac - i7
Nvidia Cuda 6.5.18 undated two days ago.
New i7 motherboard installed by Apple two weeks ago.
32 GB of Ram, 27 GB dedicated to PP
And PP and Encoder are up to date.
Currently going from HD pro res on timeline to H-264 on Encoder, in the form of a Vimeo SD 23.976.
The fans begin to go on strong about about 15 min or so. I figured this was natural. After a minute or two they would get quiet.
The error message I receive says "The operation was interrupted by user, Export Error, Error compiling movie, unknown error." Help!

This sparked a whole host of trial and error but finally figured something out that seems to have worked (at least for the past 4 hours and 5 saves) I saved my project with collecting all audio onto the XSan than opened up that project and saved as AGAIN without collecting audio to my harddrive. Essentially I end up with a "Media" file on the Xsan that has all related media to my project but the project file itself lives on my harddrive......this seems to be the only way to make it work. When I had both the "media" folder and project folder both on the XSan it was still crashing. Now it's going to be interesting to conform to the newest reiteration of the video edit with all this but I'm sure it'll just take some more trial and error, thanks a lot for the tips!!

Every other time FF is launched, address bar is static, 1st tab won't close.

This problem only happens every other time I open Firefox. It's two things, first, when I open Firefox my homepage loads, but the address bar is blank. And if I type something in like "google.com" it loads Google, but it doesn't automatically change the address to "http://www.google.com" like usual, it just keeps "google.com". Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.

Cme 2 cme voip calls work every other time

have 2 cme's with checkpoint in between.
cme A & cme B
ip phone on cme a call cue on cme b works every time
ip phone on cme a calls ip phone on cme b it works every other time consistantly. One time ringback next time busy.
phones in both locations are on different subnet from cue.
i've tried to disable ip cef to no avail and still getting problem.
debugs give disconnect cause code as network not available.
any ideas as to why it would work one time and not the next?
some sort of timer / timeout?

You've probably mapped that key to a key command or controller assignment.
If you know what you are doing, then check the key commands and controller assignments window for unwanted MIDI mappings.
If you are not sure, then back up and move your Logic preference files and restart Logic to see if it goes away.
If it still happens, option click on File -> New to create a new song and try that. It it works OK in that, you may have something in your environment that's interpreting specific note values and doing something with them (or filtering them).

Many people are finding their Iphone 4S drops connection with their VW (Passat etc) integrated bluetooth hands free system after working fine for 5, 10, 20 minutes. The only way to reconnect is to switch the car off or turn the Iphone bluetooth off & back on.
This is a dangerous fault and it appears that both Apple & VW have no solution (or are ignoring as they have already sold you a phone & a car).

KDE: Laptop only sleeps when closing lid every other time

Hello all,
I'm running KDE 4.14.1 on an older Toshiba Satellite laptop. In the KDE System Settings, I've told it to sleep when closing the lid and this works - but strangely only every other time I close the lid. It will work once, then I open the lid and it powers up just fine. Then I close it again and the screen just turns off but the laptop stays fully powered.
Any ideas what might be going on? It consistently only sleeps every other time when I close the lid (the other times it just turns the screen off).

Take a look at /etc/systemd/logind.conf
Is systemd also trying to manage this?

Every other time that I start up Firefox I get 2 windows in one, and nothing happens. Also, whenever I open a new window in Firefox every other window comes up as 2 in one and nothing happens.
