I have recently moved to a new house in a village in North Yorkshire called Spofforth. The Cabinet here has been updated to fibre optic and I have checked other address and they can all get BT infinity. According the the accepting orders spreadsheet on the Open Reach website my cabinet is -
MYSPO
SPOFFORTH
FTTC
Now
Harrogate District (B)
What I want to know is, will I every get BT infinity, or will my road never be connected? There are houses at the back of my garden that have BT infinity right now. These houses are less than 20 meters away from my house.
I have found it impossble to get a contact email or number for Openreach and whenI have spoken to BT they have said that I must ask them for an update.
I know of at least 3 other people on my road that want to get BT infinity.
What options do we have to a) find out if our houses will ever be conencted, b)collectively get toghher and petition openreach to connect our road if they aren't going to connect us.
I am currently on BT broadband with average speeds of 3mbs which is completely useless for streaming HD videos/movies and having more than one person on youtube at the same time or playing online games.

If you use this checker it will tell what cabinet you are on and what services it can receive. If it is the same cabinet as your neighbours that already have Infinity you should be able to get Infinity unless the cabinet has no capacity left.

Up until recently you could email Openreach and ask when your cabinet was likely to be upgraded however Openreach are no longer giving out that information, instead they are replying:-

So in short, you just need to keep checking to see if your cabinet has been up graded.

Open the PSE Editor, not the Organizer.
Enhance>Adjust Color>Remove Color Cast

Itunes folder on external: every song has a duplicate

I looked at my external HD itunes music folder and every song has an exact duplicate. ie) song.mp3 has a sister song.mp3...although in my actual itunes program only one is listed, there are no duplicates. My ipod also only syncs to the itunes program and only is syncing one song not the dupes. I don't know how it happened but it is obviously taking up double the space on the external. Other than going through and spending two hours deleting one of the files (and not knowing which one to delete) what can I do to dump the dupes. I clicked a few of them and they both open equally no matter which one I click...so I know that they are exact dupes. Thanks

One thing that I found is that the external reads song.mp3 and then another reads song1.mp3 etc...same file size etc just a "1" after the dupes. Any new CD I load does not dupe... I had an old macbook and now have the new imac.

I need a JTree, where every node has a checkbox. Each checkbox will be selected if all childnodes are selected, deselected if all childnodes are deselected, and semi-selected if some childnodes are selected and some are not.
I've seen this in some applications. It would really surprise me if no-one has done this yet, but I've googled without results.

What is supposed to happen when I click on a half selected parent node? Will it select all sub nodes? How do you want to represent half selection?

What you describe sounds like a hardware issue. Unfortunately, you'll need to get that checked out by Apple. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and take the machine in for evaluation.

Boot Camp Message: This object has an affinity to a particular apartment

I am having a problem with getting Boot Camp to work. I have had quite a number of issues but currently, once I get XP Pro installed on the partition I get this message when trying to install the drivers: (m_dwAptId==GetCurrentApartmentID() || IsFreeThreaded() || LightNA()) && "This object has an affinity to a particular apartment. The "&&" application has attempted to call it from the wrong apartment.
This is on a FAT partition with the 1.1.2 Drivers but I get a similar message (I think it was slightly different with less garbage at the beginning) with the 1.1.1 drivers. I thought maybe it was the custom CD I had slipstreamed to get an SP2 disk but I tried making two others and those wouldn't even get XP installed and to this point. I guess I can try installing my own drivers but I'd like the full functionality (or at least fuller) that Boot Camp supposedly gives.

Well thank you for your honesty. Apple requires you have to have a Mac to develop iPhone apps, ergo my foray into OS-Xland. No way around it that one except for running OSX in a VM, which would have probably saved me some quid, true enough.
BUT for those interested parties: VirtualBox has a startup script in /Library/StartupItems/VirtualBox that will prevent OSX from fully booting on the initial (and required) rEFIt boot cycle. Once I temporarily moved that out of the StartupItems rEFIt went in as expected.
FYI, the openSUSE desktop running native is a little peppier than OSX native which was a nice surprise. Now if the Mac just had more open source software we would have a deal. (:

I just installed iTunes on my new computer and transferred all my files, but now every song has a duplicate

Hi everyone. CAn someone help me wiht this problem? I recently bought a new Windows 8 machine and transferred all my music onto the new computer. When I installed iTunes and loaded all of my music, every song title has been duplicated. When you click on the first title, iTunes tells you it can't find the file. The second title will play. Is there some easy way to fix this problem without manually deleting all of the duplicate titles?

Every email has an attachment , why ?

Every email in the inbox has an attachment , even if was sent as a simple message without any attachments. This attachment will be a script or italicized version of the normal message.
Nothing is added to the message , the message is simply repeated in an attachment.
How can I change this so the attachments are no longer created ?

Many email programs (Thunderbird included, send a HTML and TEXT version of Html Mail. This is something of a hangover but not entirely obsolete. There are still people out there using email programs that do not understand HTML (often corporate/ Government Department systems)
I originally thought your anti virus may have either been adding an attachment (Scanned by XXXXX everything fine) or modifying the body of the email such that the text version was appearing as an attachment.
As that was apparently wrong I will move on to other causes.

Just upgraded to SL with a clean install. Copied over all my documents. Now it seems like every single file has staff and everyone read only privileges (in addition to me having read & write).
How can this be? Under System Preferences, Sharing, I have absolutely nothing checked.
Anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

these are standard permissions in both leopard and snow leopard. any new files you create in your home directory will have those permissions.

Every email has attachments and I dont want to use HD space

I have a Mac Book Air and only 128 Gb HD
Every email I send has my company logo and sometimes others.
Most emails I receive have at least one also.
My HD is almost fried with overuse.
How do I stop these jpeg attachments from being stored and chewing up data space?
I need help urgently please.
I have a 32Gb SD Card in the slot for data storage and use an external HDD as my carry over space

One thing to look at: Mail, Preferences, Accounts, Advanced, there is a drop down menu determining whether attachements are stored on your computer or not.

BT Infinity in the village - or is it?

BT Infinity is in my small village - and I want to get a slice of it..... My neighbours are signing up and I visit the BT site to be faced by a message that says it is not available in my area?
I am perplexed - for the road I live on I checked the adress checker and numbers 21+ can have infinity. I live at no 5 and when I call in to the Customer Care they tell me I'm probably on a different exchange (ad nauseum - they have no clue). My heighbours and I are cabled to the same cabinet, physically we are less than 50m apart.
What is going on? This is my lifeblood as my wifes small business and my ability to work from home and not spend 1hr45min slogging up to London.
Is there a mistake in the Openreach records, my house was built in the 1980s - so cabling is relatively new (same as my neighbour). The SamKnows site say it is available - where can you go to find out?
I read the FAQs - the Wholesale checker thinks I'm not even a BT customer (have been to 15 years) thats where I get my 1MB Broadband from (speedy heh!).
The whole thing is frustrating - BT block any attempt to ask any questions - I just feel so upset.
Where can I get help?

Hi tonywardie and welcome to the forum, as i found out of recent, people on the same road, or even postcode can be attached to 2 different exchanges which is unusual wiring in my honest opinion.

Scheduled shutdown every night has stopped working for me...

I've been scheduling my computer to automatically shut down and start up for quite some time now. I have it shut down at 11pm and start up at 9am every day and it's always worked great. There's the odd time that it won't shut down because an app was in use or something, but that's fine. Ever since I installed Mountain Lion a few weeks ago, I've noticed it stopped shutting down at night. The settings look like they're still all correct. Nothing has changed. One thing I just noticed is that in the instructions it says that your computer has to be logged in and awake for it to shut down on schedule. I can't remember if that's always been there or not. Problem is, I have my computer set to sleep when not in use, which is most of the day. So, if it's 11 at night and I haven't been using it for a while, it's gonna be asleep and not shut down on schedule. If I have to change the setting to have it never sleep then I'm shortening the life of it.
Any ideas?

Thanks for your quick response. I'm not sure what resetting the PRAM has to do with the computer being asleep but I tried it anyways. No change. Still won't shut down on schedule. As I mentioned, I think the problem is that if it's asleep it can't recognize it's time to shut down. Sounds like we're left with 2 options, either computer never sleeps during day so that it can shutdown entirely at night, or it sleeps during day and I have to manually shut it down each night or at least make sure it's awake sometime before it shuts down. Either way, it's not working like it used to under Lion.

I'm having a problem in FCP7 with all video transitions. Every transition has a rolling flicker throughout the effect. What is causing this?

I recently upgraded to FCP7 from FCP6. I am now having an issue in playback with all video transitions. When I add a transition to my video it does not consistently play smoothly. I now appears to have an old "film" like flicker rolling through the effect. Our video was shot on a dslr and brought into FCP with compressor as a prores 422 file. We use magic bullet for our coloring effects which are in place on this video. When I was working on the project in FCP6 I did not have this problem. When the project was complete we upgraded to FCP7. The client has now come back to us wanting additional footage. So I opened the old project up into FCP7 and checked yes to all format updates to meet with FCP7 guidelines. So far this is the only problem I've encountered. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For me it looks like conflict with field order (upper, lower - interlaced).
Please, check Your sequence settings, maybe it should be set to "field order NONE" if Your source is progressive.
Next thing You could check:
in Your timeline with bad transitions look into "Effecs tab" - maybe FCP 7 added "shift field filter +/-1" after opening FCP 6 project.
In general - try to keep sequence settings same as source settings.

The exclamation points are due to iTunes not being able to find your music. This can be caused from either music being deleted from the computer or if the music folder has changed locations.
iTunes does not actually store the music in the program. All music is saved on the hard drive of your PC. iTunes just creates a link to their location and if that link is broken the exclamation points appear.
I see you're using a windows computer, the best way to locate these songs and add them back in to iTunes is to search for them.
You can click on your start menu, then in the search field type either the title of a particular song or .M4P
This should locate the music for you. Once you locate all the music or the one in particular you can right click on it and select properties. In properties you will be able to see the location.
An example of a location is, C:User Name/Documents and Settings/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media
Once you have that location you can go back to iTunes, click on a song with an exclamation, it will ask you if you would like to locate the file. Say yes and then direct the path to that song and after you select the appropriate song for that 1 file iTunes will ask you if you would like it to locate the other songs that are missing. Just say yes and your library will be back!

Firefox won't work, every website has an error like the internet isn't connected but internet explorer works fine, how do I fix it?

This is the message I get for EVERY website I have tried: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at support.mozilla.com. I have checked the firewall and didn't notice any problems but I might not know what to look for. I have uninstalled and re-installed the program and still have the problem, I have also tried on different wireless internet signals and restarting my computer. I am using windows 7.

Which extensions did you install?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
