Every time I restart my Mac, I lose Firefox and have to re-install it.

I recently purchased my first Mac Book Pro (the 15 inch base model, if it matters) and shortly after tried to install Firefox. I installed it no problem, however, whenever I restart my Mac, it is completely gone. Not in Finder/Applications. I can't seem to figure out what is going on. Help!

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the Firefox disk image (DMG) file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.<br />
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.

Every time I restart my mac air some applications like calendar and Microsoft word automatically starts, how can I stop such applications from starting when ever I restart my mac?

One thing to check:  when shutting down or restarting, there is a checkbox in the shutdown/restart dialog which asks whether you want currently open applications to open at startup.

  • After typing a sudo command on terminal how do you save it so you dont have to keep giving that same command every time I restart my mac??

I have a 45mb/s internet at home and my youtube videos load extremely slow, after reading many blogs and empting my cache cleaning my history I stumble across a post that told me i had to block two IP's on the terminal using this two commands: " sudo ipfw add reject src-ip 173.194.55.0/24 in" and "sudo ipfw add reject src-ip 206.111.0.0/16 in" that it should help. After I did that and restarted the mac those commads are undone. Is there a way to save thos commands tipped in the terminal??

Open the AppleScript Editor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and paste in the following:
set thepass to text returned of (display dialog "Your administrator password is needed." default answer "" buttons {"Cancel", "OK"} default button "OK")
do shell script "ipfw add reject src-ip 173.194.55.0/24 in" password thepass with administrator privileges
do shell script "ipfw add reject src-ip 206.111.0.0/16 in" password thepass with administrator privileges
Save it as an application and add it to the list of login items for your user account in the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences.

  • Desktop pic changes every time I restart the MAC since the new OIS update

    Anybody can help with?

ewaller, thank you for your response and interest! at this moment i'm so happy seeing the correct hour on the screen that all that i want is enyoi it!!!
I live in Barcelona so, teorically my UTC is UTC + 2. During all this time with UTC the time has been changing every time i started the computer but without following a pattern. So one day the time was 30 min. ahead the real time, another day 2 hours before and so on...  a bit crazy!
I have Windows installed on another partition, but I rarely started it.

FYI.  You can prepend LC_ALL=C to a command to force English output.  Example:
    LC_ALL=C hwclock --debug
Could have saved you some translating
If you are happy with the clock set to localtime, great.  I prefer having it set to UTC for a variety of reasons that have been discussed on these forums that I'll not repeat here.
    The hardware clock is UTC
Your system assumed the clock was set to UTC
Time read from Hardware Clock: 04.22.2012 10:38:11
    Hardware Time: 22/04/2012 10:38:11 = 1335091091 seconds after 1969
    Sun April 22 2012 12:38:11 CEST -0.381791 seconds
The system shows your time as being two hours ahead of UTC.  UTC does not have summer/winter time adjustments.  I assume that you are one hour ahead of UTC, plus an extra hour of adjustment for summer.
The post I took this from was posted at 01:01:56 PDT (UTC-7).  What time (your local time) did you make that post?
If it took you 20 minutes for the translation your hardware clock at the time would have been about 11:01.  That is  10 hours ahead of me.
I am confused, because I expected it to be about 9.  If things are working right, it should be 7.
Anyway, it would appear if the change you made fixed things then your hardware clock was not set to UTC.  If you want to pursue this, I am glad to help.  If not, I am sure we will be talking about clock settings this fall

  • I upgraded to os X and when I start my macbook pro it loads ms word, firefox, neatworks, I have to close out those systems every time I restart my mac.

how do I stop programs from opening at startup

When you shut down, uncheck the window to reopen applications. If you update to 10.7.4, then it should remain unchecked each time you shutdown. In previous versions of the OS, you will have to uncheck the window each time you shut down or restart.
You might check your User Account login items for other applications you may not want as startup items if you have any there.

  • Every time I reboot my computer, I lose Firefox. Safe mode window won't stay up, after a half hour or so, I usually find a way to open it, but what's causing it

When I reboot my computer, the Firefox icon is still sitting there, but will not open the program. I sometimes have luck opening from a link from another software program, but there is no logic. When I try to "Start/Run" firefox in safe mode, it still will not stay on the screen - just a brief flash. This is frustrating! This has been going on for at least a couple of months, help!

Thanks, that may be the problem ... I just have Windows Firewall, but have recently trialed Norton for about a month ... did not buy it, but it caused other issues with my computer, as well. I uninstalled it, but (for instance) my Flash kept crashing, etc.

  • After installing or uninstalling a program or after installing a Windows update requiring a reboot, I lose Firefox and have to reboot a second time.

Am running VistaSP2 on a Dell E520 with a Kaspersky based AV program. Ever since I installed the latest version of Firefox I find that when I install or uninstall a new app (e.g. Adobe Acrobat X Pro, Skype, Windows Messenger, etc.) or when I install an update from any source that requires a reboot, I find that Firefox will not start. Even the UAC confirmation window will not open. I have to perform a second reboot to be able to open Firefox. I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it and it does not help.

Which is it, hanging or crashing, or both?

  • ITunes Library.itl gets corrupted every time I restart my CISCO VPN enabled laptop.

    Hi,
iTunes Library.itl file gets corrupted everytime I restart my laptop.
I am using Lenovo T410 with Windows 7.
This is causing alot of problems as all my iPhone songs and apps get deleted after every sync.
    Please help.

    I have the same problem.
I have removed and re-installed iTunes. The music files are still intact but the library gets erased every time I restart the PC.
This means I have re-scan all my music files over and over again.
Also, an inspection of the iTunes directory reveals lots and lots of temp (iT*.tmp) files, all of them are about the same size as the iTunes library database (10mb in my case) so it looks like iTunes is not closing down correctly / writing the temp file back to the iTunes library (iTunes Library.itl)file.
    Can anybody help?

I have exactly the same problem with  iPhoto. On my iPad I just enabled Photo Stream once and it automatically is enabled each time I turn it on again. But on my MacBook Pro and my older tower Mac (both running Lion) I have to enable Photo Stream every time I reboot the computer. Frustrating.

  • Every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac.

Every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac. I have background switching unchecked in my preferences, and I have never selected it as an option. Also, when I go to my preferences, it will show the icon of the picture I changed it to, even though the desktop itself has switched back.

I would start with some basic troubleshooting.
    REPAIRING DISK PERMISSIONS -
NOTE: refer to article "About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature" found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452 - for the actual apple article on these step. ----

    - When prompted to select a disk volume or image, select the 'Macintosh HD' in the left column

  • Every time i wake my mac i get This computer's local hostname "D-360.local" is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to "D-444.local".

error message that my local host name is in use and the system generates a new one every time I wake my mac the error mssg reads This computer’s local hostname “D-360.local” is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to “D-444.local”.

There are several possible causes for this behavior.
    1. Two (or more) computers on the local network have the same Bonjour name, such as "X's-MacBook-Pro.local". Resolve the name conflict by renaming one or more of them in the Sharing preference pane.
    2. You have two simultaneous connections to the same local network: probably Ethernet and Wi-Fi. If applicable, disconnect the Ethernet cable or turn off Wi-Fi.
    3. A Mac wakes from sleep due to network traffic. This is a bug in OS X that may only affect some models.
    4. A device that gets its network address from the router wakes from sleep, and the address it was using before has been assigned to another device.
    5. A third-party wireless router has incompatible settings or firmware. In that case, refer to the manufacturer or ISP for support. Restarting the router may help, temporarily.

  • Asked to Sign-in to iCloud every time I start my Mac since upgrading to Yosemite

Since upgrading to Yosemite every time I start my computer it goes through the normal grey screen stage and then I get to login as normal. After logging in I then get asked to sign-in to iCloud. I sign-in successfully and agree to the terms and conditions, choose to upgrade to iCloudDrive and then it says setting up my Mac, which takes about 20 seconds before the desktop displays. I'd expect this behaviour on the first reboot after installing Yosemite but it's asking me to sign-in to iCloud every time I restart and taking me through all these steps!
    I'm on iMac, Late 2012, 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB

Just to say I never found a solution to this after hours of looking for answers and trying different things. I finally decided to take the plunge and reformat my hard drive and reinstall OS X Yosemite and now is all good on this front.

  • How do I stop my toolbar buttons disappearing every time I restart Firefox?

My toolbar buttons disappear every time I restart Firefox 4.0.1. They used to disappear only every week or so. Then I tried the recommended fix at "http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bookmarks_history_and_toolbar_buttons_not_working_-_Firefox" dealing with file places.sqlite. Now they disappear every time I start, which is several times a day due to RAM usage sometimes approaching 1GB after a few hours. I am on Win 7 and have customized with tabs on bottom and to display the menu bar and put my buttons at top to save space. This is driving me insane. I have to re-customize the toolbars every time I open the browser. I did not have this problem with Ff 3.6. I have tried the safe mode and checked add-ons 1 at a time. Nothing changes except now it's every time instead of every week or so. I cannot switch to Chrome full time because they don't have all the add-ons I need for work. Please help.

If you lose the toolbar customization then you do not have a problem with places.sqlite, but with the file localstore.rdf in the [[Profiles|Profile folder]].
