Welcome to the Apple community.
If you don't want to use a remote with your computer the easiest thing to do is just to turn the IR off. (System Preferences/Security/General)
If you still want to use your computer remote then you must pair your computers remote with the computer AND the Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.
To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen (best take the computer into another room, or turn it off, when you do this)

Here is a list of things that you can try for the "waiting" downloads. These have worked for other users in the past, but YMMV. I'm not sure what account details that you want to see - but it is much more comprehensive using iTunes on your computer in order to view account details. You should be able to see the basic stuff in the Settings (iTunes & App Stores), or the App Store by tapping on your ID in the features tab and then tap View Apple ID, and enter your password.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

Are you zoomed in at all? The default key for zooming should be Control. Hold Control and use the mouse scroll wheel (or 2 fingers on the trackpad) and zoom out. If that's not working, open System Preferences > Mouse (or Trackpad) > and set a "Zoom while holding..." default key and try it.
If that doesn't work, try using different resolutions in Display settings in System Preferences and see which one works.

Did you follow the instructions on the HT2534 page that you posted from when you created the account (I've just tried the instructions and I got the 'none' option on a new account) ? If not then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store. If you are trying to use a debit card then they are no longer accepted in all countries.

If not then you will need to create a new account, and use the instructions on that HT2534 page when creating it. Hi, I have recently purchased an iPad 2 and only just found out after trying to use a Giffgaff sim card that it is locked to the Orange network in the UK. I don't want to be paying any extra over and above what I have already paid so my question is, is there any way to get the iPad carrier unlocked via apple or orange. I am waiting a call back from apple today and have read on the web that orange will charge me to unlock it.

Some iPads which were subsidized by the carriers are locked to the carrier, and in that case only the carrier can authorize an unlock. You'll need to talk to Orange, and pay their fee if necessary. They may well only unlock for the original purchaser, in which case you'll need to contact the person from whom you purchased the iPad. Apple can do nothing directly in the matter, since they can only issue the unlock when the carrier provides authorization.

Or on your iPod Touch, Purchase a free App then create a new appleID.
