Everything Reset on Boot-up???

Ok so basically yesterday when I started up my computer it seemed to change, I had about half as many Icons on the desktop homepage than I normally do, and all my settings had seemingly reset. For example I went onto Chrome and all my bookmarks had gone,
all my search history, my ad-ons, the cookies were all gone for all the websites I normally go on.
I thought this was a one off glitch so I tried to find most of my bookmarks, install my ad-ons etc. again, but today I've booted the pc up again and its done exactly the same thing. It also resets all my in game settings for other applications such as games,
although my progress on them still seems to be saved somehow.
Any response would be appreciated I can't seem to find anyone else who has had this problem on FAQ's and forums.

Hi,
Did you use local user profile or roaming profile? It looks like the user profile corrupting.
Please follow these methods to fix your user profile:
Fix a corrupted user profile

Also you could recreate a new user account for test.

    Hi,
I have a grey screen and grey rotating wheel startup probs. I have tried repairing with the disk utility, resetting PRAM, booting in safe mode (which gave a subset of the errors that 'disk repair' did- namely- 'invalid sibling link, invalid record count, invalid node structure, invalid key length)  and finally trying to get to archive&install the o/s, but it cannot find the destination volume. Is an erase the only option? PS I have backed up most files individually, but my daughter did not back up any from her user account. Any help would be appreciated. J

If you got the iPad from your school, and the Installing Apps restriction is 'off' but greyed out (as you 've said here https://discussions.apple.com/message/16137325#16137325) so that the App Store app is hidden, then it's likely that your school has set the restriction - you will need to ask them to remove the restriction for you.

I can't see my Canon MG5220 printer... Initially I was getting "there is a communication error" so I rebooted everything, reset the printing system, reinstalled the driver and still NO luck! I see no printers available in the Print & Scan area. If I click "+" it seems to see the scanner, but never the printer. HELP!

The printer component uses a different protocol to advertise itself on the network compared to the scanner component and it can take several seconds longer to appear after the scanner has.
That said, with the introduction of AirPrint, the MG should be seen as Bonjour Multifunction in the Add Printer window, as shown below.
Selecting this Bonjour Multifunction entry will create a printer using AirPrint and a scanner using the iCA driver.
So do you see the MG5220 as Bonjour Multifunction or just Bonjour?

FWIW, I have no problems at all with Lion. Running on a Late 06 iMac with 3GB of RAM and it handles it fine. A little slow, especially compared to my Mid '11 iMac, but neither one of them have problems with the beachball. I push the '11 iMac especially hard with multiple Windows installes running in VMWare Fusion at the same time as well as Safari, Word, Excel, Mail, iTunes, iPhoto, and iCal all running.

    Hi,
We would like to give helpdesk some basic rights so they can add computers (via mac/pc name) and reset pxe-boots.
We might grant extra rights but would like to start with these basic ones.
I know the setup is fully different (RBAC) so your feedback how you implemented this would be highy appreciated.

You can use "Custom Role Based Administration for Importing Computers" (http://blogs.technet.com/b/inside_osd/archive/2012/04/30/custom-role-based-administration-for-importing-computers.aspx)
as a starting point. Then use "RBA Viewer" (part of the toolkit) to create your own, custom roles.

  • Booting GRLDR. Reseting the boot drive. Is not this normal?

    Hello!
    "Booting GRLDR
Reseting the boot drive." appears for about 10 seconds while booting G410m-mm. Is not this normal?
I merged the two partitions (logical disks) to one.
    Regards,
    Dmitry

I am up and running again. I removed my SSD and replaced it with an older drive that I had removed when I put the SSD in. The old drive could not be seen on reboot, but the SSD could be seen through a USB port. I assumed this meant my SATA controller had a problem. I decided to reinstall the SSD in the empty optical drive bay. Int he process I had to remove the 2 OS X hard drives, the one that booted in bay 2, and the one that could not be seen in bay 1. I also reinstalled those 2 drives. Bay 3 and 4 have windows drives.
Upon booting all three OS X drives could be seen. After giving them all unique names, I was able to boot back into Yosemite. I have no idea what was wrong. Was it the OS, the drive, the SATA controller? All seem to be working now.
Lets see what happens when I try to play my game again!

  • Mac pro keeps crashing/weird colours/unable to reset/wont boot

Hello. First some info. I have had my mac pro for 18 months. I am running OP system X 10.5.8. I have four 256mb ramss instaled(from purchase) and 250G hardrive.
Now for 17 months, everything has run fine. Until one day after switching accounts, I noticed weird red lines accross the screen and I could not click on anything. I had to use the power button to reboot and then everything went fine until the next morning, after logging in, I got the red/pink lines accross the screen again and I was unable to click on anything.
This problem went on for about a week but then things got worst. I was having to use the power button upto 4 times because when i tried to boot, it was stuck on a blue screen. This then became 6 times after a short while more.
Before long, i was at the stage where i would click on my account to log in and the screen would just freaze. After several reboots, i was able to get onto the account but the computer then began crashing(with the spinning colour wheel in the middle of the screen) and i could click on nothing.
I was thinking that my computer needed warming up or something but today, it has gone one step too far. Ive spent about an hour trying to get it on but everytime i click itunes/safari etc, i just get a frozen screen, often with weird colours. My computer is making horrible noises(like its downloading a song, if you get me) that do not go away.
Now, ive done a hardware test and an extended hardware test but nothing came up. I attempted to re-install the operating system but that ended up crashing just like my computer does.
For some reason however, i have booted in safe mode and there is not a single problem with anything. I can click on itunes etc etc and nothing crashes.
I have apple care, what do you think i should do now? Could it still be a hardware problem? How do i find out if it is a software error?
    Any help would be fantastic

milesmartin, did you ever resolve this issue?
I find myself in almost the same situation. I have a Mac Pro using OS 10.6.1 with 9gb RAM and three hard drives. This happened suddenly at a cold startup for me. The strange red/pink lines, mouse not responding, etc. I could do a hard restart (power off) and the problem seemed to go away. I have tried many tests with TechTool Pro and the Apple hardware disk. All test show no problems with hardware. I have installed clean systems on a new hard drive several times including going back to OS 10.5. Each cold restart brings the same freeze, strange graphic displays. I reset the SMU, purged the PRAM, replace the battery, pulled/replaced all RAM modules, tried starting from the OS install disk. So far, nothing helps.
At the start of this problem, I could do a boot in safe mode. Now, nothing works and it may take 4 or 5 restarts to get the system up and running. This is most unacceptable and probably stresses the components in ways that will eventually cause a failure.
I am out of ideas today and it is no longer fun. Any help?

  • [SOLVED] Console Font Gets Reset During Boot

I've recently switched to Arch Linux and am quite happy with it.  I've never had so much fun with Linux until a friend recommended Arch.  I have since installed it on both my MacBook Pro and Mac mini.  Everything has been pretty smooth, but I do have one issue.
During the boot process, the system starts up with its default console font, per the usual.  I have edited /etc/vconsole.conf to set the font to Lat2-Terminus16 and to set the keyboard layout to Dvorak.  Here's my current config:
    KEYMAP=dvorak
    FONT=Lat2-Terminus16
Part-way through the boot process, the font switches to use the new font.  So far, so good.  Shortly after, however, the screen gets cleared and continues to produce normal kernel messages until the screen is cleared once again and presents the boot prompt, but with the default console font as opposed to the font in vconsole.conf.  I am able to re-set the font again by using the setfont command, but this is a bit of an inconvenience.  The keyboard layout, however, is as it should be: set to Dvorak.  So, systemd-vconsole-setup.service is doing its job.
I have narrowed down the problem to that when agetty starts, it seems to be resetting the font back to the default.  I have tried adding nouveau (my machines have Nvidia) to the array of modules within /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and rebuilding initramfs, but I get the same results.  I have also tried adding vconsole.font=Lat2-Terminus16 to the boot arguments in GRUB, but I get the same results.  This is affecting both of my machines.  I have updated them with pacman -Syu, but the problem still exists.
I have found a workaround which is to add a service to systemd (I call it fontfix.service), set it to start after getty.target, and have it included in multi-user.target.  But is there a better way?  Or is something else other than agetty resetting the font?
    tl;dr
agetty appears to be resetting the console font after systemd-vconsole-setup.service sets the font.  Is there a way to have agetty recognize what console font is currently is use?  Or is something else other than agetty resetting the font?

  • Starting with kernel 3.14 computer resets on boot up.

when arch switched to the 3.13 kernel my computer appears to boot normally then just resets, shuts off and starts rebooting again. Happens still with 3.14 kernel. I have been using lts kernel but that switched to 3.14 just in the last few days. Side note, I really feel that switching the lts kernel from 3.10 to 3.14 is newsworthy.
Anywho, the last thing i notice on the screen is "Automounting fs on demand" or something and something about rfkill.
i removed one of my ssd and one of my gfx cards with same results so i doubt it's a power issue.
    Tell me what to do!
    Thank you in advance.

if i wanted to build again with a custom config do i replace config or config.x86_64?
    I am running x86_64 system.
    You're welcome!
It's probably best to set the _makenconfig= to _makenconfig=y in the PKGBUILD and play around with that to build a custom config (and then unset _makenconfig= after the build if your happy). That'll kick out a nicely created config.x86_64.last file which you can rename to config.x86_64 if you want to use it for future builds.

No sound at all for incoming calls, txts, games. I have checked the side mute switch. Volume is all way up. All notifications are on.  I can hear tones when I go to change them. I can hear my music.  I can hear talking on videos I have taken.  I have tried everything I know to do(reset, restore, reset network settings, reset content and other settings and mute button is not ON)Please help!

This is exactly the same problem I am having. I dropped the phone one time I think that was the reason. Now I cant seem to find any solution to fix it and it will cost me $149 to buy a new phone? There has to be a way to fix this problem.
When I put it in speaker phone I can hear but not voices through the phone.

  • Blue screen, reset pmu, booted up, now no cursor

hello all...i have received a ibook g4 with some issues. i rebooted it, terminal blue screen, decided to reset pmu, came up after power up, and now no cursor. i tried to plug in a mouse. still nothing! any ideas? just trying to get the ibook back up to get the hard drive emptied off. thanks in advance.

    Hi.
Two things to try for starters:
First , try a Starting up in Safe Mode
Safe Boot takes longer than normal startup
What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode.
    Then re-boot normally.
If the above doesn't fix things so that you can "...get the ibook back up to get the hard drive emptied off" try booting into Target Disk Mode by holding the 'T' key down at start-up and connect it to your Pro with a firewire cable. The iBook's HD should show on the Pro. Run DU from the Pro to erase the iBook's HD. Use the zero out option (once will be enough) to map out any bad blocks. If you are re-installing you can run the install from the Pro too while the iBook is still in TDM.
    Have fun,
    Adrian

  • P6N Platinum Bios Resetting on Boot

    Hi all,
I've got a P6N Platinum that the bios resets on almost every day.
-I turn the PC off each night (start - shutdown - from windows)
-When I turn it on in the morning (pressing the power button) it lights up, but I get no video.
-All four lights are green on the D bracket.
-If I press and hold the power button until it turns off, the turn it back on, the same thing happens.
-If I just press the reset button, it boots with the bios reset.  I have to go in and set the time and disable the onboard audio (since I have an X-Fi).  And any other settings I've tweaked are gone (I've only changed memory timings - but it runs ok on auto).
-Once I reset the bios it works fine the rest of the day - even if I reboot it or power it off and back on.
-I'm not overclocking or doing SLI
Sounds like a battery problem, but it's connected to AC all of the time.
    System Specs:
    Core2Duo E6600
    EVGA 8800 GTX KO
    2 GB Corsair RAM
    Creative X-FI
300 GB Seagate SATA drive (boot)
    Lite-On DVD Drive (IDE)
    Vista Ultimate 32 bit.
Antec Sonata case with SmartPower2 450W PS.
    All new.
    Thanks,

If the system locks up or crashes once fully booted into the O/S, and will not re-boot on subsequent attempts, it should reset BIOS to "Optimized Defaults", telling you, "Warning!!! The previous performance of overclocking has failed... Please press any key to continue...". Afterwhich, it will boot with the default settings.
If, instead, it successfully re-boots within three attempts of the three-finger-salute boot after the lock-up, it should maintain the user selected BIOS settings.
    That's normal.
I am beginning to think MSI has come up with a "learning" or "self-healing" BIOS. What few little annoying problems I've had are slowly disappearing, one boot at a time.
When you are playing Lord of the Rings do you get physical; shaking or striking your desk or computer? Could be loose wires. I know my truck acts like that at times.
I see that message in the manual, but I have never received it.  It's never taken three attempts - just one.  And, the problem occurs after a normal shutdown.  (but so far only after the game has crashed).
I've been known to turn my keyboard into popcorn before, but not with this system!! - YET!
    Sweeps.
