Everytime I go abroad I have problems with my contacts, some people send me messages and I dont receive them. I sent them messages and they are not received either. Their phones and mine show them as sent, but they are never received. Sometimes the text messages sent to arrive in my email about three weeks later. Any ideas how I can resolve this and get back to messaging my friends as normal?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

What sort of service problems are you having exactly? Has this happened after you updated to IOS6? Have you tried erasing and reinstalling? Where was your back up?

Does that person have an iPod, iPad or iPhone with the Messages app and are you trying to Message that persons with the email addres (or phone number for an iPhone) they aves set up to use for Messages?

So what that means is when you have Do Not Disturb turned on, you may have an alert depending on the setting and how you are using your iPhone. So if it is set to Always, then that means that no matter what, your iPhone will not be notified. If it set to Only while the iPhone is locked, then that means that you will not get notification when your iPhone is locked but you will get notifications if your iPhone is being used. Also keep in mind the settings All Calls From can be set to certain contacts like Favorites, Everyone or no one. If you are using Do Not Disturb and you do not need it, then turn it off.

It sounds like you are unable to turn on Wi-Fi because the option is grayed out in Settings. Use these steps from the following article named:
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim

Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.

if itunes can no longer pickup your ipod, and you cant even do anything to your ipod, your best option is to either call apple care, or just take it to the nearest apple shop. i had a similar problem, mines currently at apple care repairs and they might just end up giving me a replacement.

If you are both on the T-mobile network, the sim card should work. If you did a Erase All Content and Settings, then she should be at the point of activation as a new device...talk to T-mobile and be sure the sim she is using is a valid sim card.

If you have a hardware problem as you describe the only option is to get the phone replaced by Apple or repaired by a non-authorized shop. I would like to know the answer to that one. I realized this was happening just after upgradeing my iOS to 6. Then when I looked up my purchase date, I was about 5 days past my one year warranty. So I'm dead in the water. Apple will replace the battery, but it will be about $80+. I took it to the Apple store, and they checked a bunch of stuff, but said that it seemed ok. I'm debating getting a battery for a more reasonable price off of ebay. But if it's the iOS thats draining the battery, then I'm not going to be able to help it. I wish I knew a better way to tell if its the battery, the phone, or the iOS.
