Everytime I open a tab I get the message - SyntaxError: unterminated string literal

I installed Firefox 3.6.12 and kept getting this message so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it does the same thing. Any idea why it would do that? Could there be something missing in the root files that would cause an error message like that? The reason I ask a question like that is I just had a nasty virus removed from my computer and it had attacked the root files. I have used Firefox for years and never previously had problems using it. I'm using Windows XP The repair guy's solution was to use IE, but .... no way! I want my Firefox

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
>In Firefox 4 Safe mode also disables plugins (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and hardware acceleration (Tools > Options > Advanced > General)

  • When I open another tab I get the wheel of death for 1-2 minutes and I often have to force quit FF. Mac OS X 10.6.8/ FF 7.0.1

I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 using FF 7.0.1. When I open another tab I get the wheel of death for 1-2 minutes and I often have to force quit FF. I saw this question asked but no real answer given as to why this has been happening in the last three weeks after I've used FF for years and not had this problem before. Please give some help or I'll have to use Safari full time.

    Delete and reinstall it.

cannot open iTunes. I get the message" the file--iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. How do I proceed?

Had same problem and solved it without having to reinstore any music or movies:
    1. Delete old Library file
    2. Go to the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and copy one of the earlier files - note, they have a date extension, e.g. 'iTunes Library 2011-11-01'.
    3. Paste this file in your iTuners folder and rename file by removing the date extension -  'iTunes Library'
You should have all your music and paylists in tact, unless it was a really old previous file.

  • Trying to open Aperture, but I get the message, "There was an error opening the database for the library "/Users/davewasson/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary". - and it forces me to quit. What do I do?

Trying to open Aperture, but I get the message, "There was an error opening the database for the library “/Users/davewasson/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary”. - and it forces me to quit. What do I do?

    Dave-
You can try opening the old (problem) library by launching Aperture into Library First Aid mode and choosing to Repair (first option) or Rebuild the library. Before doing this, make a backup copy of the old library, since both Repair or Rebuild will write changes to the library database.
Repair is the faster and less drastic option, so try that first: After backing up your library, hold down both the Option and Command keys while dragging and dropping the problem library on the Aperture icon. The Photo Library First Aid window appears. Select Repair Database, then click Repair. After some time Aperture should open the library, if possible.
If that fails launch Aperture back into Library First Aid and select Rebuild Database. Depending on the size of your library this operation could take some time, up to several hours for a very large library. When the main window appears you may have some extra Recovered folders/projects. This operation rebuilds the library from scratch and is usually successful at reviving problem libraries.

  • I have an issue that I cannot open Firefox, and I get the message "Firefox is already running..." and it says I need to close it or restart my computer.

There is a page on the support site that attempts to adress the issue...but it never says how to fix it. https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+is+already+running+but+is+not+responding
Apparently there is a problem with the "profile", and on this support page, it has a link about working with the profile...if you go to that page, is tells you where the profile is, and the many things it does...but it does NOT say actually how to fix this problem. It tells you to go the the Help tab at the top of the browser, then select "Troubleshooting", and then under Profile, select "Open Containing folder"...which brings up the folder with all the files...but from there...it doesn't say what to do. I also have gone to the Start tab at the bottom of Windows (Windows XP--I've got Firefox 3.6.9) then Run and opened the profile box...but there are no instructions on what to do to fix the problem. I can open Firefox only by going to Crtl-Alt Delete and opening the process tab and ending the Firefox process...but this is not a fix. Help! thanks...

You need "sysinternal's process explorer", it is free and can replace the Microsoft process explorer, that you get by "CTRL+ALT+DELETE". Either program will allow you to kill the instances of FF that didn't die as they should have, when you closed them. Sysinternal is easier to use, it is a graphic display with many options. Do not push "CTRL+ALT+DELETE" twice unless you want to reboot, that is its default behaviour under Microsoft.

  • When I close the browser, firefox won't open again. I get the message "Firefox is still running, restart your computer." How do I fix this?

When I close the Firefox browser by clicking on the X in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, the window closes. But when I want to open Firefox again, I cannot. Instead, I get a message, "Firefox is still running. Restart your computer." This happens a few times a week and is very disconcerting. How do I fix this problem?

I will only close the browser by using your suggestion, File > Exit, from today on, and see what happens. Thank you for your expedient reply.

  • Whenever I try to open After Effects I get the message "You can't use this version of the application "Adobe After Effects CC" with this version of OS X?

All of my other programs will open in Creative Cloud but whenever I try After Effects I get that error messaged.  I have everything updated and I have tried uninstalling and installing again but I still get the same error message.

Your AE is not up to date. 12.0 will not work on OSX 10.9.3
    Mavericks broke some things.
You need the latest update to CC which is 12.2.1.5 (although they're releasing another update later this month).
Although, technically you don't need the latest update as the 12.0.1 update made AE work with Mavericks

  • I have downloaded Firefox 4 and when I open Firefox again I get the message that my version is not safe from online attacks, so why?

I opened Firefox and got the message that I needed to download 4 because my version was not safe from attacks. I downloaded 4 and then I quit Firefox and reopened it, and got the same message as before. I am probably doing something incorrectly, but I have no idea what that could be.
    Thanks.

  • I have firefox 10.0.2 installed but everytime I open up firefox I get a message that says I am not currently using this version and I need to update to the latest version and why won't firefox support printing mac coupons

my firefox info shows that I am using 10.0.2 but I keep getting a repeated message when I open it saying I'm not using the most recent version.
Even tho the mac coupon printer says firefox supports this install it doesn't allow me to print it.

    Hi cleopt,
You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. That page is no longer being maintained by Google.
You should try changing your home page to:
    about:home
If you don't know how to change the home page, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]].
    Hopefully this helps

  • When I open enough tabs to get the left/right scroll buttons to appear, my entire tabs bar flickers

I finally just upgraded from FF28 this week and am having a very weird problem with the tabs bar. I am attaching a 2-second video because a still screenshot does not capture the issue. Not only is the flashing/flickering uncomfortable visually, but it makes it nearly impossible to click the x to close a tab (I have to right-click and select Close Tab instead).
edit: can't attach a video; uploaded it here:
    http://www.nothingleftrecords.org/ffvid.3g2

I'm sorry for this issue. hopefully it is fixed with an upcoming update. I looked at your crash report and one issue that could be causing this is out of date drivers.
" Blocked for your graphics driver version. Try updating your graphics driver to version 10.6 or newer." This error was given many times. Also, as XP gets older, without being supported, it gets harder to make programs (i.e. Firefox) as good as possible while working on older systems.

  • When trying to close one tab, i get the message "you are about to close 2 tabs" this is not what I want. I only want to close one tab at a time in English

I only want to close one tab at a time

ONLY 8 people have this problem?
Look, virtually all Mozilla's potential users are coming from Internet Exploder, which gets this ALMOST RIGHT, while FireF*x does it totally wrong. Including in webmail: there's no way I could have got to this forum without leaving 4 windows active or closing everything, including closing my mail without logging out.
ONLY 8 PEOPLE? How many thousand simply throw up their hands & uninstall yr f- nurdware over this one single issue? Not to bore you with details, but I'm hardly unsympathetic to open sources that don't look like the best argument for Micros**t and Google hegemony.
Btw, I said they get it -almost- right... It would be really nice if IE or >somebody< offered a checkbox to NEVER close multiple tabs. Look, if this bug disguised as a feature is useful to a few nurds by all means keep it as an advanced option, but PLEASE set up FireFox so it at least defaults to the real world.

  • I cannot open Firefox as I get the message that Firefox failed to read configuration file. I uninstalled and reinstalled latest version and still cannot open with the same error.

Last week when the automated upgrade came I said yes and then stopped it midway as it was not a good time to reboot my laptop. Since then, when I try to open it says cannot read configuration file - even when I uninstall and reinstall - still cannot open it with the same error.

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
