Excel 2010 workbook crashing Excel 2013
We have someone who created a workbook in Excel 2010 and when we open it in Excel 2013 it will crash. You can open the doc and look at it, but once you start trying to do anything in it, after a random time period, it will crash. Also if you try to resave
the document it will crash every time, no matter how long you've been in the doc.
Is there any way we can track down what in the doc might be causing this? I've tried it on several different systems with excel 2013, a few of which have SP1 installed already and it does the same thing. Any suggestions?
Hi Jcasteel,
Could you please give us more information about this workbook?
Any Macros or formulas in this file? Does this file have any links to other files? Try to move VBA code or links manually to narrow down this issue(You can change this workbook in excel 2010). If it contains multiple worksheets ,open them separately
to address this issue.
In addition, have you ever try the general methods? e.g.
1.Open the workbook using the 'open and repair' feature(Start Excel->On the File menu-> click Open->In the Open dialog box, select the file that you want to open->Click the arrow on the Open button, and then click Open and Repair )
2.Start excel in Safe Mode(Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click the name of the Microsoft Office program that you want to run)
Also if it is convenient for you, you can share your workbook with us .

Refreshing Excel 2010 workbook with connection to Access database on shared network drive
I have an Excel 2010 workbook that has a connection to an Access database that's on a shared drive on the company network. I can refresh the data in the regular Excel application but when it's hosted in the browser I get this error message "The data
connection uses Windows Authentication and user credentials could not be delegated."
Next, I installed PowerPivot for SQL server 2008 and used PowerPivot to connect to the same Access database. I uploaded it to a PowerPivot gallery but when I try to refresh the data but it says "the workbook was created in an older version of Excel
and PowerPivot and cannot be refreshed until the file is upgraded." I tried to go to "Manage data refresh" but I get the "Sorry, something went wrong" page. Do I need to install PowerPivot for SQL server 2012 to do scheduled data refreshes?

Cannot open an Excel 2010 workbook by using Internet Explorer 8.0 in sharepoint 2010
When am trying to open a Microsoft Office Excel 2010 workbook from a Web site by browsing to the location with Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0, you cannot open the file. Instead, you receive the following messages:
Some files can harm your computer. If the file information below looks suspicious, or you do not fully trust the source, do not open this file.
Would you like to open the file or save it to your computer?
If you click Open, you receive the following error message:
Could not open 'http[s]://<var>Server_name</var>/<var>File_path</var>/<var>File_name</var>.xls'.
After you click OK, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'http[s]://<var>Server_name</var>/<var>File_path</var>/<var>File_name</var>.xls' There are several possible reasons:
The file name or path name does not exist.
The file you're trying to open is being used by another program. Close the document in the other program, and try again.
The name of the workbook you're trying to save is the same as the name of another document that is read-only. Try saving the workbook with a different name.
RameshHi Ramesh,
Please install the hotfix package and test the issue again:

SAPGUI 7.20 / Excel 2010 - Workbook is corrupt and cannot be loaded
Hi all:
SAPGUI 7.20 SP 0
Excel 2010
BW 7.0
Queries run fine in Analyzer. No issues.
However, whenever we try to open a workbook saved in Excel 2007 we get this error "The workbook is corrupt and cannot be loaded".
These workbooks are executed fine from any PC with Excel 2007, same SAPGUI version (7.20 SP 0).
Furthermore, if we open a query and save a workbook (now in Excel 2010) we get the same error "The workbook is corrupt and cannot be loaded".
Basically, we can't open workbooks.
Since the only difference in both scenarios is Excel (same SAPGUI) I checked in some Microsoft forums and read something about incompatibilities in the new Visual Basic coding in Excel 2010 compared to 2007.
Other than that, nothing else so far.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks in advance,

Here's an Odd one: Microsoft Excel 2010 Workbook "randomly" Becoming Protected
Either there are gnomes in our servers, someone is lying, or some sort of glitch is causing this issue (and honestly I'm not even sure which is most likely), but here's my story:
User is working on an excel workbook. This user accesses this file all the time with little to no problems. One day a week or two ago the user finds the workbook is password protected, but doesn't even know how to do this, much less remembers locking it.
My boss restores a backup of said document that is not password protected. User is able to access file, edit it, save it, etc.
The next day that same file (and only that file) is locked for the second time. We use a back door method and save a new copy with a new filename. User edits file, saves it, etc.
The next day that same file (and yes, only that file) is locked for the third time.
Am I crazy? Is someone lying to me? Do gnomes really go inside computers and wreak havoc to make me lose my sanity?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
I have the file and plan on saving an unlocked copy locally to see if the issue presents itself again.
Windows 7 computer running Office 2010; Windows 2012 serverHave you got over this odd issue yet?
If this workbook is saved in a shared drive, maybe you need to track who uses the excel file.

Excel 2013 VBA Compatible with Excel 2010
Hello,
I am new at working with VBA and have a question regarding an excel sheet with a VBA macro inserted.
The sheet was created in Excel 2013 by another user, and my laptop runs Excel 2010. I get script errors when I run it, however on Excel 2013 it works fine.
My question is: Is there a way to make Excel 2010 work with Excel 2013 VBA scripts? Perhaps importing the library from Excel 2013 VBA to E-2010? Or perhaps a way to save a VBA script in E-2013 to be backwards compatible with E-2010?
Thank you all for your support.Open the workbook.

Excel 2010 workbook (A).
Analyzing in another workbook (B) using PowerPivot.
After a column insert in the source workbook (A) that update is not shown in the updated table in workbook (B)
I can however have an updated table in (B) if I define a new connection. But that is in another tab then.
So How to update the data that is input to the pivot tables using the "old" connection (connection to A)Linked tables must reference Excel
data found in a separate Excel window within
the same PowerPivot workbook. -

Compatibility of macros in Excel 2010
Hi
I have some excel 2007 files (having some macros) and want to use them in excel 2010. I want to open those excel 2007 files in excel 2010. Does my macros works in excel 2010.

AbhileshHi
Thank you for using
Microsoft Office for IT Professionals Forums.
For backward compatibility with earlier versions of Excel, such as Excel 97-2003 or Excel 2007, you can use one of several ways to exchange workbooks between
the different versions.
Work in Compatibility Mode You can open a workbook that was created
in an earlier version of Excel and work in Compatibility Mode so that the workbook remains in a file format that can easily be opened again in the earlier version. Compatibility mode is not available for Excel 2007 workbooks.
Download file converters You can use file converters that you
can download to open an Excel 2010 workbook in an earlier version of Excel.
Check a workbook for compatibility If you want to work in the
current file format but have to share a workbook with people who use earlier versions of Excel, you can check that the data is compatible with earlier versions of Excel. You can then make the necessary changes to avoid the loss of data or fidelity that might
occur when that workbook is opened in an earlier version of Excel.
More detailed information you can refer to this article: Use Excel Starter 2010 with earlier versions of Excel

Under 'Preserve Visual Appearance of the workbook'
Click on Colors
Click on 'dropdown box' of Copy Colors from and select the file I want to copy the colors from and click OK.
Click OK to close the Excel Options dialog box.
In Excel 2010, I cann't find the color imported in the color palette, nor use it of cause.
If you have any idea, please don't hesitate put your answers, I really need the solution for it. Thanks in advanced
Jun
Jun LOUHi,
I tried the following and it worked!
To copy your existing colour palette to a document or template in Excel 2010:
<dir>
Open the file (containing the existing colour palette to copy) with version Excel 2010
Go to tab "Page Layout"
Click on the Icon "Themes" (Themes menu)
Go to the bottom page and click "Save current Theme..."
Give a name with extension *.thmx (e.g. "mycolours.thmx")
The theme will be available to use and copy in other existing Excel documents repeating the actions described.
For new documents the recommendation is to create a workbook or a template.
</dir>
