Excel as a datasource

I have a Crystal report (currently it is Crystal 9 but we are migrating to XI R2) that uses an Excel file as the datasource.    It uses the Microsoft Jet OLEDB driver 4.0 and Excel 8 as the database type.   I am pointing to a shared drive (letter g) as the file location.   The user ID "Admin" appears with no password as default.
I uploaded this report to our Crystal Enterprise server when I try and preview it, the report keeps asking for a user ID and password.    Using Admin and no password does not work (or anything else I tried).   The "g" drive is mapped to the Enterprise server (just like my client computer) so it should be finding the file.   I also tried to remove the "Admin" password when specifying the datasource with the same results.
So, are there any "tricks" to getting Crystal Enterprise to work with Excel as a datasource?

Hi,
I think Crystal report server  uses a different user profile to get to the network shared location behind the scene. Can you try and move the Excel file the same Box where Crystal Server is and republish to the server and test.
Regards
Dotun.

  • Using Excel as a Datasource

I created a report that will use Excel as a datasource. The report runs fine from my desktop. I would like to place this report on the Business Objects Server. Can anyone tell me what I would need to do in regards to the excel file.
In addition to this issue, when I moved the excel file to a shared folder and reconfigured the system dsn, the report would not run. I received an error message: could not decrypt data. Any help would be appreicated. Thanks.

    Hi
Put the excel file on a network drive which is accessible by the server.
Create a Crystal Report using the Access/Excel DAO connection based on the above excel file.
    Save it to the enterprise.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Error using Excel as a DataSource for Report Builder 3.0 - ODBC connection

    Hi,
I'm getting this error message below while trying to use excel as a datasource within Report Builder 3.0.  I can see the columns and rows but unable to display/run the report.  Using Excel 32 bit and have the driver and user dsn created under c:/windows/syswow64/odbcad32.

    Hi Cherise,
    Vishal's link looks good.
I have commercial experience in migrating Crystal Reports to SSRS. When performing any type of migration it is always wise for the business requirements to be revisited. It is likely that the business requirements may have changed since the Crystal reports
    were initially developed, etc.
I've done some research for you and the following link looks quiet impressive and offers a cheap trial, in terms of a direct migration. Please tell me how you get on; -
    http://www.sqlcircuit.com/2013/08/ssrs-how-to-create-report-using-excel.html
I emphasis again I have commercial experience of lots of migration projects and it would be very unwise to not revisit the business requirements as part of the migration process.
    Kind Regards,

  • XLSQL for using Excel (XLS) as datasource in VC

    Hi Benjamin,
Hope you are having a good day. I know its been a while since you worked on this piece ([url] DATE issues when using BI JDBC Excel datasource in VC;url] ) but we are trying to do the same thing you had done. Use xlSQL to connect to an excel file as a datasource for VC modeling.
We want to use the BI Java connector. I have loaded the JAR files and when we get to the Manage Connections, not sure what we enter for the Driver, URL, Schema, username and Password.
What I now see if that the Connection Test (for the BI JDBC system) works fine with the following:
    Driver: com.nilostep.xlsql.jdbc.xlDriver
Connection URL (Unix box): jdbc:nilostep:excel:/reports/spec (this is the folder where I have the xls file)
FixedSchema: (should my excel file name go in here?)
FixedCatalog: (should my excel sheet name go in here?)
    Username: none used
    Password: none used
When I do all of this and search for TABLES in VC on that system, it says None found. Any light shed on this would be very helpful.
    Thanks,
    BR

    Hi,
The most important guideline we used was this document:
How Tou2026Configure a BI JDBC System for Visual Composer Version 1.03 u2013 March 2006
    LINK: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/6209b52e-0401-0010-6a9f-d40ec3a09424?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true
Follow all the steps... Some remarks about the steps in this document:
Step 7: add all additional .jar files that are in the /lib folder of the xlsql driver package
Step 11 - 14:  ... skip this, after step 15 restart the whole j2ee cluster, this is really needed to load the .jar files
Step 15: although optional and not the configuration you need to get it working for VC it is handy to configure this as it allows you to use the JDBC test page for debuging etc.
The only 2 parameters you need to configure with this step is:
    Driver: com.nilostep.xlsql.jdbc.xlDriver
    Connection URL: jdbc:nilostep:excel:/reports/spec/
    ...Now restart the j2ee cluster...
After the restart you can use the following url to see if the driver works: http://<hostname>:<port>/TestJDBC_Web/TestJDBCPage.jsp
Continue the configuration to allow VC to access the driver you need to configuer a System object in the portal...
    Follow Step 16 an onwards...
Step 26: Again only fill in the following:
    Driver Class name: com.nilostep.xlsql.jdbc.xlDriver
    Connection URL: jdbc:nilostep:excel:/reports/spec/
Step 29,30 and 34,35: Usermaping Type can be left untouched
Additional step (do this after step 33): To make the system visible in VC you must set the portal permission for the user that use VC to Read + Enduser. Also when used in runtime later the enduser should have Read+ Enduser permission to use the system object. We used the built-in group Authenticated User for this and set the permissions on this group to Read+Enduser.
    This should do the trick...
FAQ 1 - after uploading a new (or overwriting an existent) XLS file to the folder the changes are not visible, how to solve this?
ANSWER 1 -  restart the JDBC connector via /nwa > manage > applications > (search for jdbc) > Stop / Start
FAQ 2 - after deleting a XLS file the data is still querieable, even after the restart of the jdbc driver?
ANSWER 2 - this is some kind of caching bug, deleted files are only deleted when you restart the J2EE engine.
FAQ 3 - after a restart of the jdbc driver, the first query firred in VC returns an error.
ANSWER 3 - this is because the first time the XLS files are read and writen into a HSQLDB in memory database, this takes more time. after this the calls are made on this in-memory-copy of the XLS data.
    Hope this helps you...

  • Connect to excel datasource

    HI
I have a requirement to connect to excel as a datasource in oBIEE, Excel files placed in Network drive.
How can we connect to excel file on  a network drive? Or what is the better place or where the excel file should be placed in order to get the access from OBIEE RPD.
Please help me out on this.
    Regards,

    Yes you can do this:-
Create a DNS by using MICROSFT EXCEL Driver(available as microsoft excel driver(.xls)
initially u r having sheets in Ur excel file. When you create a connection pool , each sheet can act as table in your physical layer.
Then find out the fact and dimensional tables.

    Thanks for Adrian's help.
    Hi shaza,
From the error message, I suggest you can refer the Adrian's suggestion to check the date source connection string correctly.
In addition, you can refer the following about how to Create a Data-Driven Coded UI Test to check your issue:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624082.aspx
Or you can also try to use a Configuration File to Define a Data Source for coded UI test.

  • How to send Java Mail with EXCEL attachment?

    I tried the following:

as my datasource (all other apis are fine)
But when I send this message with this datasource as attachment,I get a ParseException with the VM complaining about malformed headers.

Exactly when do you get the ParseException, and what's the message

  • BADI implementation for importing values from excel

    Hi All,
This is my first ever post in this forum and I am a newbie in ABAP. I have this doubt rather I would say I am stuck while implementing a BADI for importing Excel values.
We have a BADI for 'Upload flow rate' button which is built on PLM frame work on webdynpro.
The requirement is that after clicking the ' 'Upload flow rate'  button it should prompt for selecting the excel file and after selecting that file, the values should get loaded to the internal table.
what I have tried till now is that
    CALL FUNCTION 'TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP'
       EXPORTING
        I_FIELD_SEPERATOR    =
         I_LINE_HEADER        = 'X'
         I_TAB_RAW_DATA       = IT_RAW       " WORK TABLE
         I_FILENAME           = 'C:\abcdl\book1.xlsx'
       TABLES
         I_TAB_CONVERTED_DATA = lt_result
       EXCEPTIONS
         CONVERSION_FAILED    = 1
         OTHERS               = 2.
    IF SY-SUBRC <> 0.
       MESSAGE ID SY-MSGID TYPE SY-MSGTY NUMBER SY-MSGNO
               WITH SY-MSGV1 SY-MSGV2 SY-MSGV3 SY-MSGV4.
    ENDIF.
    endmethod.
I tried hard coding the xls file but it gives error as 'CNTL_error' which I guess is a known issue when we use this function module in webdynpro.
So how can I get the values from excel without using datasource and just by hard coding the file name?
    Regards,
    Anand
    Anand

There is no solution to this - SAP have said they will re-introduce this functionality, but they havent said when (as far as I am aware).
However, we have developed a workaround (for Web reports anyway), let me know if you are interested.

  • Excel input

    Hi,
I am writing in reference to Tim Dexter's articles regarding using Excel as a datasource (here: http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/2007/03/14 and here: http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/2007/03/13).
Is there any recommention you could make as for how to call a java class from a macro?
Secondly, I am curious to know how the 'xlsdata' servlet is deployed on the server.
    Thanks in advance!

if your file is a text file and you are reading it from a client you can use the oracle forms TEXT_IO package.

  • WebIntelligence connection to Excel

CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
Hi there - new to Business Objects and WebIntelligence (Infoview)
Just want to be able to run (and use the output) WebIntelligence Reports from within Excel . If I had Desktop Intelligence it would be easy - just reference the BusinessObjects Object Library from within VBA and use SSPI to pass username/password etc.
How do I make the connection and reference the outputs? Seems stupid going in to Infoview , exporting the report as an Excel file then importing it back in to a workbook. I am quite happy in Excel /MS SQL connectivity
    Thanks

You may want to repost your Q in the WebI section of BO Enterprise forums just in case I am not correct:  WebI does not allow Excel as a datasource.

  • Importing Excel into Oracle

    Scenario:
7 users have access to an Excel Sheet.
Any user can use the coldfusion front-end and upload this
excel file into an Oracle database.
Excel sheet has 30 columns, but when they click on
    Upload...only 5 0r 6 columns will be filled.
The rest will be null values in the database.
I'm not in a position to make use of Oracle External Tables
neither can I run DB scripts to check for newer Excel Uploads.
As of now I need suggestions on the possible approaches.
    Also when user clicks upload:
If col-1 has value then col-2, col-3 should have values and
col-4, col-5 should not have any values.
There will be checks like these in place too.
Please suggest how do I check an .xls file if all these
conditions are filled per row (assuming that there would be 40 rows
per upload per user per day). Do I check the .xls file or do I
check for these validations somewhere else, if yese where and how

Either on these forums of the House of Fusion forums, I
    recently read a
thread about using excel as a datasource. That may offer you
    some options.
The file could be uploaded to a given location. That location
    is
configured as a datasource. Use standard SQL operations

  • Excel ODBC Driver

    Hi everyone,
I've tried looking into the forum as well as Metalink for ideas on how to "install" an ODBC Driver for Excel on a Windows machine so I can integrate my Excel files to Oracle DW thru ODI.
I have not been able to configure a Data Source thru the ODBC Admin app, even after installing Microsoft Office or OpenOffice.org apps in the machine, I still could not add a Excel data source (i.e. No option available for adding Excel driver-based datasources).
My question is, is there any available ODBC driver for Excel for 64-bit machines? What can I do to work around this issue?
For 32-bit machine, is there anywhere I can download an installer file?
    Hoping for a response.
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hello,
this is an old error but the solution is quite easy... in the data model related to the excel files your spreadsheet is imported (when you reverse engineering it) inthe format
    XXXXXXX$
actually there is a problem in the odiRef.getFrom method that is not adding the table name in brackets ("), to avoid this error simply assign the following phisical name to the datastore:
    [XXXXXXXXXX$]
and your interface will work. If the problem persist maybe is because the problem is with the columns name, you shoudl map them as
    <Table_Alias>."column_name"
