Excel Problems with Mt Lion

Funny with an Excel file with many sheets (14) on my 17" MacBook Pro, using Mail, if I click on the Excel file to open it, all I get a sheet however all the data does not display in the Excel file.
However if I take the same file and drag it to my desktop, letting it create a new file then open the file all the data is in the Excel spread sheet.
Just wondering if any one else is having a problem with Excel, Mail, & Mt Lion?
thank you for any reply John

I've upgraded to Leopard and also have had difficulty printing in excel (using Office for Mac 2004 Student/Teacher Ed)....Word, Powerpoint, and Entourage all print fine.....and I print fine off the internet and in Apple iWork (Numbers, Pages) and in "Mail" . REally strange.....
I am able to open files in excel, but cannot print them....
I'm a former PC guy.....very set in my ways (I was) until I bought my wife an iMac G5 last year, before Intel came out. Anyway....she loved the Mac so when my Laptop hard drive fried, I decide to take the plunge and am I glad i did......
I'm frustrated about this glitch with excel in Leopard....but for those of us who have attempted to (and succeeded) upgrade Microsoft Operating systems (though you never really succeed....Microsoft just keeps fixing things...with new patches or new service packs!).....well you know what I mean....upgrading to Leopard was a breeze.....I just wish I could figure out this problem with printing in excel!
I would drop excel and just use "Numbers", but I work with all PC users (using various versions of Office) so I need to make sure they can open my "Numbers and Pages" files and even amend them if needed,...which I don't know they can do??????? i know I just jumped subjects here...but anyone have any thoughts on this too?
To summarize:
1. problems printing in excel with Leopard upgrade on macbook.
2. can PC users with Office 2004 (I don't think any use the new 2007)....open my files from email if I generate them with Numbers or Pages?
Thanks,
Steve D.

at least that the operator has confirmed to me that he called me. I also have problems with either the start of the mac with the power off. I can not understand if it crashes or is just very very slow.
Finally, I have a problem with the external hard disck. I often said to have been ejected incorrectly (not true) and I start to restore the startup recovery disk because disk utility is ineffective from the normal operating system .. is a shocking thing, but how you reduced. in four years it had never happened. seem to have windows or worse. Wake up.
I am an Italian, alas, and then I would like an answer to my language because my € are the same as German French or English.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • Some serious problems with Mountain Lion

    Hi everyone,
I upgraded my mid 2010 15" MBP to Mountain Lion 2 days ago, and I have some serious problems with my machine now.
    - Wifi problem: like many members 's machines, mine has problem to connect to the wifi after sleep or restarting, I had to wait 10 to 15 minutes for it to connected to my home network. Anh I tried to remove all of my settings in System Preferences/Network and added new connection. And now it cant connect to wifi anymore. I'm writing this article while sitting on the floor with my Ethernet cable plugged in my MBP. I connected to internet through a DSL modem and a Airport Extreme as a bridge and Access Point. I also tried to set up all of my network device but my MBP can't connect to the wifi still.
    - Keyboard problem with Pages: I was very happy with the new iCloud syncing for Pages documents but after 5 minutes, I met a big problem with Mountain Lion. Whenever I type in Pages with Vietnames Keyboard( Mac OS X built in or from another developer: http://www.trankynam.com/gotv/ ), Pages stops working immediately. I can still drag the Pages's window around but can't type or do any editing. After that I have to force quit pages. It is really stupid that I'm writing a book in Pages and now I have to stop my working till apple fixes this ridiculous bug. I tried German Keyboard as well and Pages worked flawlessly. Do you hate Vietnamese, Apple?
    - Messages problem: Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I couln't send or receive any messages. It worked perfectly in Messages beta.
Does anyone have the same problems like me? Any solution such as how to reinstall Messages(I googled but found nothing)
Apple, please test your software more before release it. I feel like I have no computer at the moment because I can't work, can't surfing the web wirelessly and can't communicate with my friends.

    HI,

What Messages to what type of Buddies or Contacts ?
    This
I found out that the problem with my wifi was my MBP received automatically a ridiculous IP such as 169.254.170.0 instead of 192.168.1.4 as it should be.
WIll be part of the Issue as will be DNS issues.
mDNSresponder crashed with Handsoff! v1.5.3. After upgrading Handsoff! to v2.0.2, it works again.
In this case mDNSresponder also being stopped will stop DNS working.
I would guess if you have resolved these that you can Chat to people again.

No, it's not Lion. It may be something you installed. If you just bought it you could also take it back to the Apple Store and they may be able to help.

  • Problem with Reinstalling Lion on macbook pro.

Hi I have a problem with reinstalling the Lion but because i had snow leopard so i can't sign in to reinstall can u help me please. Thanks

If you ever do redownload OS X from the Store, save the package first, you can then use that to boot from and do clean installs locally.

Create an OS X Mountain Lion Installation Boot DVD or USB Drive with LionDiskMaker

Mountain Lion is out! You can upgrade a Mac right out of the App Store, but some people prefer to make a boot disk. If you’re in that group, rather than making a bootable OS X Mountain Lion installer yourself the old fashioned way, you can do it all in a few clicks with the help of a free app called LionDiskMaker.
After you’ve downloaded the OS X Mountain Lion installer from the Mac App Store, launch LionDiskMaker and it will locate the installer app, extract the disk image, and then make the boot disk. It’s about as simple as it gets.
For burning a boot DVD you will need a 4.7GB or larger blank DVD and a SuperDrive. For USB install drives or SD cards the drive needs at least 8GB of space available. LionDiskMaker formats the drive you point it at, remember that when you are picking a disk to make bootable for the installer.
Get the newest version of LinoDiskMaker free from the developer
Making a boot installer is really helpful if you need to install Mountain Lion on multiple Macs and don’t want to re-download it on each Mac from the App Store, or if you want to perform a clean install. If you don’t need the bootable aspect, you can also just copy the Installer app file from the /Applications/ directory to other Macs and it will work to perform the OS X upgrade too.
LionDiskMaker has been around since Lion but it has recently been updated with Mountain Lion support, heads up to CultOfMac for the reminder

  • How do I investigate and solve Pages, Notes, Mail intermittent 'offline' and failure to synchronise problems with Mountain Lion after waking from Sleep

When I wake up my iMac after sleep, i get a variety of intermittent - but mostly FREQUENT and FRUSTRATING problems including:
Notes app is offline - as stated by a message in the window bar. If I close Notes and reopen, the app appears to be online. However, Notes does NOT update with items I know are on my iPad or in the web iCloud. Furthermore, if I create a new note on my iMac, the new Note does not upload to iCloud. This is IRRITATING!
Pages and Numbers - similar situation. I can edit a Pages or Numbers document on my iMac (stored on the iCloud). But then the Pages doc doesn't ALWAYS get uploaded to the iCloud. Then I end up with conflicted versions of the file in the cloud, my iPad, and the two iMacs I use. Then I get CONFUSED and FRUSTRATED. For example, consider these steps:
Open Pages on my iMac, edit an iCloud file, then save and close file
Pages/File/Open/iCloud - I note in the iCloud file list the edited file has a little 'cloud' icon against its name. From experience this warns me of TROUBLE - namely that the file has NOT yet been uploaded to the iCloud. However, I just checked the new Beta iCloud on the web, and to my surprise, the file edited on my iMac is apparently in the icloud. But now, I edit the iCloud version, and the changes DO NOT appear on my iMac pages version. OK I realise its in Beta version...
So now, I open my iPad, open Pages. I note the iCloud version of my edited document updates to my iPad, as indicated by a blue download line. 'It just works' as Steve Jobs claimed at Apple Developers Conference a couple of years back. Again, the edited version form my iPad is now 'up in the cloud' correctly....
Oh - and now mysteriously the Pages version on my Imac has become synchronised with my iPad/iCloud version! Luck ... but that's about all I can say. It doesn't always happen. I'm LUCKY today.
Meanwhile, the Note I created on my iMac (Item 1 above) has still not yet appeared on my iPad or iCloud... even though I HOPE it would be given that Pages on my iMac, iPad and iCloud are chatting nicely now! The Note says it's in my iCloud - but  NOT. Similarly, notes updated or added on my iPad, which appear in iCloud, are NOT on my iMac.
Mail - last but NOT LEAST! and MOST INFURIATING!!! My Gmail, Vodafone NZ and Orcon accounts (in Mail) are all active and receiving after the night's sleep. However, my iCloud mail account has the dreaded offline.
The message on Mail is "There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “ICloud - [email protected]” or try again. The server returned the error: The server “p03-imap.mail.me.com” cannot be contacted on port 993." Despite the message, mail was received this morning at 8:59 am ... some time before I woke-up my computer (a late start this morning).
If I sent an email FROM my .me iCloud account TO my Vodafone account, the message whooshes away, it's in my SENT box. But it doesn't get delivered to my Vodafone account on my iMac Mail, or anywhere else, Despite the message being listed in my 'Sent' mailbox!!!
In contrast, a message sent from my Gmail account to my Vodafone account (in Mail) gets sent and received almost instantly on  my iMac and iPad.
All of the above mishaps are extremely frustrating, as I rush off from working on my iMac at home, get to my iMac at work and find documents I have been updating on my home iMac not available correctly on my work iMac ... or even my iPad. I expect these things from Apple to 'just work'. Furthermore, emails I THINK I have sent (as indicated by them appearing in the Sent folder on my home iMac) ... have not actually been despatched.
Frankly, I can no longer rely or recommend the Apple iCloud stuff, so I am converting more and more to relying on DropBox and Google.
These problems only became apparent since I updated to one of the Mountain Lion versions... I can't say when.
Oh - if I shutdown and restart the computer my Mail works OK. Guess what, I don't want to do that each time I want to use Mail!
    Technicals:
My iMac is connected by Ethernet cable to my Apple TimeCapsule. The TimeCapsule is connected by Ethernet cable to my Orcon Genius Modem.
Obviously, my internet connection is A-OK, as I am able to use Firefox to make this posting!
    Mountain Lion 10.8.4
iMac 27 inch, mid 2010, Intel Core i5 16 Gb

I've returned to my sleeping iMac after a few days away. Tis time, ALL MAIL accoiunts are offline. I will follow you next set of instructions. In the meantime, here is the DETAIL from MAIL CONNECTION DOCTOR:

  • Multiple problems with Mountain Lion

I purchased OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 on August 23, 2012 and iPhoto '11 9.4.3 on August 22, 2012.  I have started having problems last month with freezes, various Apple software not working properly, and after the last update, I no longer can access my flash drives.  I recently posted about my problems with iPhoto not letting me look at individual photos and showing only the black screen with thumbnail strip on the bottom (followed the reply poster's advice, thank you, but without any luck).
Now I am having issues following the last 2 updates from Apple to my OS.
    - Spotlight will only look in the web (followed the steps provided by another discussion by going to system preferences, selecting all the files/areas to exclude using the "+" sign, then using the "-" to remove all the ones in privacy to force spotlight to reindex, no luck, still not working, even unchecking the webpages box in search results)
    - Extremely slow response of my iMac, for instance, looking in my Applications folder on my dock, it opens in stages with each stage getting bigger and bigger until it is open to its normal window size (hope that makes sense)
    - iTunes corrupted immediately after the lastest update when I tried to create a new folder for music resulting in a corrupted iPod and having to restore the iPod and reload the iTunes and all my songs from back up
    - iMac no longer recognizes any of my flash drives (the USB ports recognize my iPod, Seagate external, digital recorder, etc) but refuse to recognize my flash drives.  My flash drives work fine on all other computers both Mac and PC (have a 2 Memorex, 2 PNY, and 1 Scandisk brands).  I did what another poster suggested (I browsed to see what to try before posting here).  When I go to disk utilities, I am unable to "verify "the flash drive and not able to "mount" it
The flash drive is grayed out as are the other steps.
I am ready to uninstall Mountain Lion and go back to the OS that my computer came with in Jan 2010.  I have not had any issues with Mountain Lion until last month.  I am open to suggestions and ideas, not sure what happened in May (I did not load any new software, no brown outs, black outs, nothing done differently in May that I had not been doing all along).
    Thanking you in advance

Please read this whole message carefully, especially the warnings, before doing anything.
    1. I can only guess which of the modifications you've made to your system is causing the problem. The changes suggested here should be considered provisional; they may not solve your problem, or they may remove functionality that you find useful. If a third-party system modification that you want to keep is causing the problem, refer to its developer for support.
    2. WARNING: Back up all data now if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state, even if it becomes unbootable. If you’re not sure you can do that, STOP — DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING. If you’re dissatisfied with the results of the procedure suggested below, restore from your backup. I will not be responsible for the consequences, and I will not be able to help, if you ignore this warning.
    3. You should either remove or update the following system modification(s), if an update is available from the developer:
    N/A
and definitely remove at least the following:
    BlackBerry Desktop Manager
    CleanMyMac
    Eltima SyncMate
    Seagate Storage Driver
    † Sophos
    † Symantec AntiVirus
    4. Whatever you remove must be removed completely, and (unless otherwise specified in this message) the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job. I can't be more specific, because I don't install such things myself. Please do your own research.
You will generally have to reboot after uninstalling a system modification. Until you do that, the uninstallation may have no effect, or unpredictable effects.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
Again, please don't ask me to do this research for you. You can do it better than I can, because I haven't installed the product and I may not even know what it is.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
WARNING: Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.
    5. I recommend that you never reinstall the modifications marked with a dagger (†) above, if any. If your problem is resolved after uninstalling all the above modifications and rebooting, but you still want to use some of those not marked with a dagger, you can experiment with putting them back, one at a time, testing carefully after each step. Keep in mind that system modifications may be incompatible with each other or with future OS X updates, so it may not be clear which one is at fault.
    6. If you still have problems after making the suggested changes and rebooting, post again. Remember: if you don’t like the results of this procedure, you can undo it by restoring from the last backup you made before you started.
Remove the Sophos product by following the instructions on this page.
Remove the Norton/Symantec product by following the instructions on either of these pages:
Uninstalling your Norton product for Mac
    Removing Symantec programs for Macintosh

  • Airport extreme A1143 problem with mountain lion

what airport extreme software version works with mountain lion

I have an A1143 here and it works just fine with AirPort Utility 6.2 in Mountain Lion.
It also works fine with AirPort Utility 5.6, which I have on another Mac here.
All you can really do is try a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme to clear out all the old....and possibly conlficting.....settings and try to configure it again.
If you continue to experience problems, I would suspect a less than perfect AirPort Extreme....although I am sure that the seller claimed it was perfect.

  • External monitor resolution problems with Mountain Lion

I have a problem with my external monitor (Samsung LS19B150NS) and Mountain Lion (running on unibody Mac Mini). Each time I reboot OSX the resolution get reset from native 1366 x 768 to something lower. The display is connected via DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter. Some observations:
    - I tried selecting "Best for..." option or "Scaled" (set on 1366 x 768 or 1360 x 768). The problem is still there
    - Sometimes resoltuion might stay alright for several reboots, but then the problem re-appears again
    - Sleep mode doesn't reset resolution
    - Other monitors work fine via the same adapter
    - The Samsung LS19B150NS work perfectly well with other Win PCs
Any suggestions how to fix it?

  • Cinema HD Display 23" problem with Mountain Lion

I have a MacBookPro 13 Late 2011 with Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory normally connected to a Cinema HD Display 23". I had no problem when running Lion but right after installing Mountain Lion, the Display goes wrong and nothing works properly, need to force shut down the mac. Any idea how to resolve this?

  • My trackpad has problems with Mountain Lion

I have an IMac from the beginning of 2012, it had snow leopard on it. Since about one week, I updated to Mountain lion. Until here, everything ok.
I also have a MacBook Air from January 2011, with snow leopard on it. I wanted to sell my Mac Air, so I used the migration assistant to migrate my user from the Mac Air (that has snow leopard) to my iMac (that has mountain lion). It seemed to have worked perfectly yesterday. Today I turned on my iMac, after having sold already the Mac Air, and the user I migrated logged in automatically, and the trackpad or mouse both didn't work correctly. The cursor jumps by itself from one place to the other and won't let me do click anything on the status bar or the dock or on any window, which means I basically have no mouse. I've tried different mouses, plugging in and out, everything! Nothing works! It's driving me crazy, so I somehow managed to erase the new migrated user and lost all the data (that is the only new thing I had on the iMac, so I thought that that was the source of the problem), and restarted the iMac, and logged on with my usual user form the iMac, but the problem with the mouse persists and I can't do anything with the iMac! I though. About reinstalling mountain lion on the iMac, bu how can I do this without a mouse??? I don't have a cd, I downloaded it from the App Store. HEEEEEEEELP! :-s

I think the exact problem comes because I migrated a user from a Mac with snow leopard to a Mac with mountain lion. How can I fix this problem now? Reinstalling mountain lion?

  • Wifi problem with the Lion OSX

Like many others i am facing the problem of connectivity with the Lion OSX. In my room i have 2 macbook pro, one running on Lion and the other on Leopard. The problem arises with the wifi. The one with the Lion seem to get a stronger signal when both of them are placed side by side but drops out quickly. This does not happen with the MBP running on leopard.
I have tried turning on and off the wifi. It does not help. At times it gets connected but nothing comes on. Other times it shows the "the connection timeout" error.
I do hope that Apple solves the problem soon as it is clearly a OS related problem.
    Eagerly waiting for the update.

Usually it's because you are not making internet connection via wifi.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
