• Cell definition / Cell exception

Hi,
Can you please explain me What are the situations we are using Cell definition and Cell exception in BEx Query??

Hi,
in exception reporting you select and highlight objects that are in some way different or critical. Results that fall outside a set of predetermined threshold values (exceptions) are highlighted in color or designated with symbols. This enables you to identify immediately any results that deviate from the expected results.
Exception reporting allows you to determine the objects that are critical for a query, both online, and in background processing.

You can define threshold values (exceptions) for a query. Data that varies from these thresholds is highlighted in color or marked with icons. You can use these exceptions to identify deviations from expected results at a glance.

• How to find the value of date char used as exception aggregation reference

Hi BI Gurus,
On a BEx report I need to list three things by material:
1) the open (not yet delivered) Purchase Order quantities
2) the PO quantity to be delivered next and
3) the date that belongs to the next delivery
The model supports these data i.e. for each material I can list all open quantities by Purchase Order / Item / Schedule line and the scheduled delivery dates are also available as a characteristic.
Determining 1) is easy – as the drilldown is fixed (materials only) the open quantities get summarized for all PO-s belonging to the materials.
To determine 2) I used a Calculated KF simply including KF 1) “=Open PO Qty” in the definition and setting Exception Aggregation (first value) with a reference char of the delivery date. This gives back the Open PO Quantity to be delivered first.
My question is about how to determine the 3rd value (actually this is not a KPI but a characteristic value). In other words, for each materials I would need to determine the first among all of the possible delivery date char values of the open PO Items / schedule lines. This is the date the quantity shown in the 2nd KPI will be delivered on.
Does anybody have an idea how to approach this issue?
Thanks for you help in advance,
Attila

Hi Olivier,
Thanks for your suggestion. I got a bit closer with the replacement path formula variable and the CKF. I tried to apply the same logic of KPI 2) but for some reason it did not work. Actually, it delivers the right value but only when 0SCL_DELDAT (Scheduled delivery date) is in the drilldown… But what I need is the first delivery date by Material only, and without this 0SCL_DELDAT drilldown.
Any other ideas?
Thanks and bye,
Attila

• Cell definition choice in Query Designer is inactive

In the Query Designer the choice "Define cells" is inactive, or grayed out. Why is this? Is there a global setting or does it have something to do with the query itself?

Hi TMV,
if you want to see the "cell " option in active mode , first u must have two structures.
one is charactersitc structure and on key figure.
Just go throw the below description.
Hi,
just go throw the below description:
In the Query Designer, choose View ® Cells from the menu bar to reach the functions of the cell definition. The Cells screen area is displayed.
New selection
1. Select a cell in the Cell screen area and choose New Selection with the secondary mouse button. The new selection that is not yet defined appears in the cell.
2. Select the new selection and choose Edit from the context menu. The Change Selection Cells dialog box appears. Make the basic settings on the General tab page.
3. Use Drag&Drop to define your required selection by dragging a key figure and the characteristic values by which you want to restrict the key figure to the right-hand area of the Details of the Selection dialog box. See Defining Selections.
You can use characteristic value variables instead of fixed characteristic values.
- If you want to change an existing variable, select the variable and choose Edit from the context menu. The variables editor appears and you can change the settings.
- If you want to define a new variable, select the characteristic value and choose New Variable from the context menu. The new variable is displayed. Choose Edit from the context menu of the new variable. The variables editor appears and you can define the settings.
For more information, see Defining Variables.
4. Enter a description for the selection.
You can use text variables in the description.
5. Make any necessary settings for the properties of the selection on the other tab pages. See Selection/Formula Properties.
6. Choose OK. The cell contains the description of the selection. The symbol shows you that a selection exists for this exception cell.
New formula
1. Select a cell in the Cell Definition dialog box and, using the secondary mouse button, choose New Formula from the context menu. The new formula that is not yet defined appears in the cell.
2. Select the new formula and choose Edit from the context menu. The Change Formula Cell dialog box appears. Make the basic settings on the General tab page.
3. Define your formula using the operands and functions available. See Defining Formulas.
4. Enter a description of the formula.
You can use text variables in the description.
5. Make any necessary settings for the properties of the formula in the other tab pages. See Selection/Formula Properties.
6. Choose OK. The cell contains the description of the formula. The symbol shows you that a formula exists for this exception cell.
New cell reference
You can use any cell that you define in a formula. If you want to reuse the value from the implicit, generic cell definition that is automatically created at the intersection of the two structural components of a query, select this cell in the Cell screen area and, using the secondary mouse button, choose New Cell Reference. A description taken from the two structural components now automatically appears in the cell. The symbol shows you that a cell reference exists for this exception cell. Now you can reference this cell. You can continue to use the implicit cell definition and do not have to manually generate this value using a new selection.
Functions of explicitly defined cells:
Select a defined cell and choose the required function from the context menu (secondary mouse button).
● Edit
● Cut
● Copy
● Paste
● Remove
● Where-Used List
Before you delete a cell, you can check for the formulas in which the defined cell is used in the where-used list.
You reach the properties of a defined cell by selecting the defined cell. In the Properties screen area you can also make changes such as:
● Changing the description of the cell
● Changing the highlighting of the cell
● Hiding the cell ( if you do not want to see the values of the cell)
Help cells
In the Help Cells area you can define additional cells for help selections or help formulas. You can use the functions New Selection and New Formula in the context menu to define help cells that are not displayed in the query to serve only as objects for help selections and help formulas.
For example, you can define an invoice in a help cell and use this in a “real” cell to calculate a duplicated invoice.
a. Using the secondary mouse button, click on the empty cell next to Help Cells to reach the context menu. From here, choose New Selection.
b. Use Drag&Drop to drag the Invoice key figure into the right-hand Details of the Selection area.
c. Enter a description.
d. Choose OK. The cell contains the description of the selection. The symbol shows you that a selection exists for this exception cell.
e. Now choose New Formula from the context menu of the required cell of the query. The new formula that is not yet defined appears in the cell.
f. Select the new formula and choose Edit from the context menu.
g. Use Drag&Drop to drag the cell you have just defined, which you can find in the Available Operands window under Cells, into the Detail View window. Click on the button twice.
h. Enter a description.
i. Choose OK. The cell contains the description of the formula. The symbol shows you that a formula exists for this exception cell.
Result
You have defined one or more exception cells for a query.

• Exception (colouring cells) in report output based on formula.

Hi Gurus,
I want to colour my cells in report output. But this coloring is not so simple. It has to be done based on a formula.
Lets say i have material in rows and sales value by period in columns.
.......................Jan'08......Feb'08.......Mar'08.....Apr'08
Material A...........100..........120............105.........140
If Feb'08 values is greater than 0,02*Jan'08 value than ---> Feb'08 has to be coloured as green. etc.
Is it possible to define such a rule for the exception?
Thanks
S.P.

Hi Reddy,
I am using bex 7.0.
I tried that also.
I created another formula in columns with name "Difference" and it calculates the difference.
Report looks like as below:
Material.....Jan'08.......Feb'08.....Difference
ABC............100............120.............0,2
Now, I have to colour Feb'08 column, based on the value under Difference column. But it does not work.
In Exception settings; from Definition tab, I selected Difference column (exception is based on).
In Display tab, I select Feb'08 column.
But it does not work.
Any idea?
Thanks

• Forumla Variable with Exception Aggregation

Hello,
I've CKF in BEx, in this CKf there is replacement path Formula variable calculating number of documents.
Formula variable is replacing the value of Document number infoobject.
So definition of CKF is -> Replacement path Formula variable *1
Ckf is restricted to summation with Exception aggregation on Document number.
This implementation is working fine but issue is its taking lot of time in query ,like while checking RSRT olap :data transfer(Event ID) is taking lot of time, majority of the query execution time and counter is going somewhere around 100K.
Do you know is there a way we can implement this count in transformation?
Thanks in Advance!

Hi,
Doing SUM in transformation takes a long time as you need to read all the content in target.
So it is better to fine tune the query.
1) Is query running long time for small selections ?
2) Trace the query in RSRT and check where it is taking long time like Data base level , Application level
Thanks

• Exception aggregation in one CKF causing problem in Result row of other CKF

Here is my scenario in 3.5x BW:
I have a CKF A which has exception aggregation (to select maximum value) based on a reference characteristic..
Now this CKF A is used in another CKF B and a third CKF C is being calculated based on CKF B. SInce I am using exception aggregation in CKF A, CKF B and C had to be set to be calculated 'after aggregation'.
Formula for CKF C = 100*B/ D (D is another constant CKF, with value 1 for each row).
Now my requirement is that the result row of CKF C should be calculated using the same formula on result row of B and D. This was working when I was calculating A without exception aggregation. But now I need to use exception aggregation aswell as I want the result of C = 100 * Sum(B)/ Sum(D).
I have tried the alternative of using a Formula selection (with formula collision - Result from this Formula)instead of CKF for calculating 'C', but didnot find any success in getting result row of C as per my requirement.
Any suggestions in resolving the issue will be higly appreciated..
Thanks
Shikha

you have created a calculated key figure A in your query, and in the properties of this calculated key figure you have defined the exception aggregation right?
so you can create a second calculated key figure (say A') with the same definition as ckf A, but you don't put any exception aggregation in it. then you need to create a second calculated key figure (say B') to replace the calculated key figure B, and use ckf B' in this new ckf.
when you use now the calculated key figure B' in the formula of ckf C, it should be correct as you use ckf A' as basis, which has no aggregation...
quite straight forward, no?

• Exception aggregation doesn't work correctly

Hi,
Here we have a problem about exception aggregation, we created two queries. One is based on the
InfoCube, another is based on the DSO.
Both queries have the same definiation. And the data of the InfoCube is from the DSO.
In the query definition we created a formula and in this formula we used a exception aggregation.
For example, we used count all value <> 0 and reference to city in exception aggregation to count
all city which sales value above certain value.
We got the different result from these two queries.
The result in the DSO is what we neend.
Can you tell me why I got the different result?
Our system information is:
SAP NetWeaver 2004s
SAP_ABA 700 0009 SAPKA70009 Cross-Application Component

Jin,
Ideally one way to find out if exception aggregation is working fine is to drill down based on the exception aggregation characteristic and see if the formula is being calculated right...

• Exception Aggregation for a Calculated Key Figure in a Structure

Hello BI world,
Please can someone tell me if it is technically possible to use "exception aggregation (count) in a calculated key figure within a structure.
The definition of the structure is:
Rows: Characteristic (Selection) = Problem type (0CATCODE_FE) = "AF01"
Colums (Selections) Month 1 , Month 2, Month 3, etc .. Total
Details of the selection for each month
0CALMONTH = Variable (offset+1 for Month 2 , 3 etc)
1KYFNM = CKF
Calculated Key Figure (CKF) =
General Tab: = Key Figure "0CAUSE_CNT"
Aggregation Tab - Exception Aggregation = Count All Values
Ref Characteristic = Problem type (0CATCODE_FE)
Calculation After Aggregation = not ticked
Local Calculations Tab = All "Nothing Defined"
What I am trying to achieve is the "count" of "Category codes" for each month specified in the structure.
I have looked in the cube and there should be a "category Code" count of "9" for Jan 2008 for notifcation type AF01 but the query shows 0?
Thanks in advance, points will be awarded.
Steve

Still not working? Not sure why? Have tried both answers and just not counting...
Is there any restrictions on using "exception aggregation" in a calculated key figures in a structure?
The structure is in the columns and it is a selection that includes the CKF with the exception aggregation plus a restriction on calendar month using a variable?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

• Copying Cell Definitions

Hi all,
I would like to know if there is any method to copy a cell definition to another cell. Basically I have cell definitions on Month and few keyfigures. I have to select these keyfigures and restrict current Month. I have to do this for all 12 months. The only things that differs for all the cell defs is current month restriction. I would like to know if I can copy the first cell def and paste it to the remaining months and later edit the restriction.
I do not see any option in cell definitionsv to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Prabhu,
If you have two structures in your report you can do it by defining exception cells.

• Help in Cell Definition

Hello,
Can you please anybody tell us , what do you mean by help cell in Cell defintion.
Thanks
PT

Hi,
Help Cells:
Choose Help Cells, if you require additional cells for help selections or help formulas. You can use the functions New Selection and New Formula in the context menu to define help cells that are not displayed in the query to serve only as objects for help selections and help formulas.
For example, you can define an invoice in a help cell and use this in a u201Crealu201D cell to calculate a duplicated invoice.
a. Right-click on the empty cell next to Help Cells to get to a context menu. From here, choose New Selection.
b. Use Drag & Drop to drag the Invoice key figure into the right-hand area of the New Selection dialog box.
c. Enter a description.
d. Choose OK. The cell contains the description of the selection. The symbol shows you that a selection exists for this exception cell.
e. From the context menu for the required cell of the query, now choose New Formula.
f. Drag the cell you have just defined, which you can find in the Operands window, under Cells, into the Formula window using Drag & Drop. Click on the button twice.
g. Enter a description.
h. Choose OK. The cell contains the description of the formula. The symbol shows you that a formula exists for this exception cell.
In the help cells that are already defined in the context menu, you can:
· Edit the cell definition
· Delete the cell definition
· Display the where-used list for the cell
· Change the description of the cell under Properties.

• Cell Definition Functionality

Hello,
I am new to version 3.5 and would like to know more about the functionalities of "Cell Definition". Could someone enlighten me more about what possibilities I have wirh Cell Definition. Links are always welcome....
Thanks,

Hi,
Cell defination can be created only when you have two active structures.
regards,
Shailaja
Some examples:
● Changing the description of the cell

HI Deba,
We can create exception aggr in inof object level........
we can maintain at query level also.........
Exception aggregation
In the query definition, the exception aggregation that was specified with the InfoObject
maintenance can be overridden. This overriding leads to a worsening of performance
however.

• Exception Aggregation InfoObject

Hi experts,
I have a key figure set like you can see just below :
- Aggregation : SUM
- Exception Aggregation : MAX
- Aggregation reference : 0CALDAY
NB : I can't modify this parameters since this object is used in a lot of InfoProvider.
I created a query based on a multicube (which does not content 0CALDAY) using this key figure and I want a SUM.
I am very desapointed because a Max aggregation is applied.
Could you please help me to solve this problem ?
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Bertrand

Why cant you change the property? Are these properties used anywhere else? If your concern is that this KF is used in my InfoProviders and chaing this KF will result into Inactive state of InfoProvider, then I would suggest you should try in development to do it.
I did change the same property, but none of my InfoProviders were affected as this property is realted to Bex query and not the value loaded to that KF.
Another thing is, if you dont want to change the KF property, I would sugggest you to overwrite the exception aggregation definition in frontend.
You can always set new exception aggregation in Query designer for his KF. (Actually Formula based on this KF). Set it to Total and mention any other reference char as you dont have 0CALDAY.
Before you set this property, you can try one more property "Calculate Result as..." (Total) with your current setup and see if that works.
Else once you set the exception aggregation, please set "Calculate Result as..." (Total) to see Total correct in the resutl row.

• Exception Aggregation takes a lot of time

Hello, guys!
I'm having problems with exception aggregation for some of my key figures in BEX Query Designer.
Well, they are working properly (Summation and Counting), but it takes up to ten minutes for them to calculate, and this is not acceptable for both me and my client.
Without those Exception Aggregations, query runs in a seconds.
Do you know any way to avoid those problems? Maybe it is possible to do something on BW side?
I'd appreciate any advise on this.
Thank you in advance for your help,
Nik.

Nikita,Exception aggregation definitely takes a toll on the performance. There might be a situation where it is aggregation huge number of records with the unique combination of reference characteristic.
You can either try to filter out the data as much as possible after analyzing the data in cube.
Also i can suggest to do a close health check up of your cube with the help of program
