Exchange 2013 or SP1 Installaing Single CAS Role not installaing EWS virtual directory in mixed environment

Hi Experts,
I am facing issue while installing exchange 2013 sp1 in mixed(2007, 2010 and 2013) environment, the issue is: CAS role not installing/configuring "Echangeweb" (ews) virtual directory if i install only CAS role. If i install CAS role and mailbox
role then there is no issue, everything is fine.
In single CAS role installation, "EWS" folder is creating inside "Exchangeweb" folder but it shows empty folder.
If any one have any idea please let me know, why this is happening? was i am doing anything wrong while installing?

Hi Ravi,
Agree with Martina. I install Exchange 2013 CAS server and Mailbox server separately. "exchweb" folder exists on Mailbox server only. Here is the exchweb folder information on Mailbox server for your reference.
Here is the ews folder information on CAS server for your reference.
Hope it helps.

  • Upgrading Exchange 2013 to SP1

I have 3 Exchange 2013 servers in my environment. Each server is a CAS and Mailbox server. Each server is also setup in a DAG. I want to update them to SP1 and am a little confused on the upgrade process. Can I just install SP1 on one server at a time
or do I need to make special considerations on which server gets upgraded first? What about the DAG? Thanks.

    Hi Will,
Before you install the SP1 you should consider:
Make sure that you have a valid and tested backup of you Exchange Server, Mailbox Database(s) and Active Directory
Make sure that all third-party vendors that you use on your environment support the Service Pack 1
Make sure that there are no backup jobs running the upgrade process
Stop all backup services; and third-party services, such as System Center Operations Manager and so forth
Make sure that you don’t have any pending restart due Windows Updates and/or previous roles/features installed on the server
If you have a DAG then it is important to put the server in maintenance mode
For further info in performing maintenance on DAG Members
    here
After all considerations you should update to SP1 after you download it you can run the update from command line o run the setup.
    Hope it helps.

  • Exchange 2013 mailbox added to the CAS array

We are upgrading to Exchange 2013 from Exchange 2010. Following the development guide, we have
installed the first mailbox server in the Exchange 2010 environment which has 3 Exchange 2010 CAS server
in the array. When installing the mailbox role, we did not choose the client access role but after
the installation we can see that the Exchange 2013 Mailbox server is added to the CAS array and yet
we did not choose the client access role. How does this happen, and to proceed ?

I see the same thing in my lab:

  • Unread Emails in Outlook 2010 Clients shows both UNREAD AND READ emails when connected to Exchange 2013 Server SP1

We recently upgraded to Exchange 2013 SP1 with a client user-base of Office 2010 Professional Plus / Outlook 2010 SP3.
All Unread Email favorites folders show both Unread and Read emails, just like the inbox. Removal of the folder and recreating yields the same results, as does creating a custom folder. However, in Outlook 2013 there is no problem.
Is there a patch or hot fix for this issue? Or does anyone know how to fix this issue so that the UNREAD EMAILS SHOW UP IN THE UNREAD FOLDER AND NOT INCLUDE THE READ EMAILS?
    Thank you!

  • Exchange 2013 - Search SMTPReceive logs on CAS

Is there a sensible way to search the SMTP Receive protocol logs on the client access servers?  The Get-MessageTrackingLog cmdlet only searches the mailbox servers, but I need to be able to look at what's connecting to the CAS sometimes and manipulate
those logs.  The transport logs are entirely too verbose for some of my needs.
I've been parsing the logs via PowerShell using some form of these piped commands I've put together, and it's certainly functional, but I can't help but feel that I'm doing things the hard way.
    Get-ChildItem -Path 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\Logs\FrontEnd\ProtocolLog\SmtpReceive\*' -Include '*.LOG' |

    Hi
There will be 4 types of message tracking logs in Exchange 2013 unlike in Exchange 2010 we have only 2.
•MSGTRK   These logs are associated with the Transport service.
•MSGTRKMA   These logs are associated with the approvals and rejections used by moderated transport. For more information, see Moderated Transport.
•MSGTRKMD   These logs are associated with messages delivered to mailboxes by the Mailbox Transport Delivery service.
•MSGTRKMS   These logs are associated with messages sent from mailboxes by the Mailbox Transport Submission service
    For protocol logs
We just need to navigate to the below location alone in Exchange 2013 and copy the receive connector logs which will be identical to analyze the protocol logs via excel.
    “C:\program files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\Logs\Hub\ProtocolLog\SmtpReceive”

  • No premium OWA for IE11 with new install of Exchange 2013 w/sp1

We just installed Exchange Server 2013 with sp1 included. Everything is good except IE11 users don't get the premium OWA site. I know that this was fixed in CU3, but you can't install it because SP1 is supposed to contain all the fixes through CU3.
    Does anyone have any idea?

There's nothing wrong with the server.
I have LAB environment also and OWA will show as legacy client rather Exchange 2013.
I would suggest the same I suggested before... Uninstall IE11 and install IE10
Also the windows Update has to be UpToDate

  • Exchange 2013 RPC URL shows Error 404 Page Not Found

    Hi,
I have been told by Barracuda Support to verify my Exchange 2013 RPC url is working correctly using the following address in a Web Browser:
    https://RoH server address/rpc
When I hit this URL I input my credentials and get a Error 404 - Page Not Found.
I dont have any issues with Outlook Anywhere and clients are working fine. The tests come from this article and I am wondering if they are still valid for Exchange 2013 so need some help:
    https://techlib.barracuda.com/BMA/EnableRoH
Does anyone else get the 404 error when they try the RPC virtual directory? If I got rpc/rpcproxy.dll that works fine and no issues.
We have Outlook Anywhere configured for NTLM authentication so maybe this is an issue and should be Basic?

I did some digging in the CAS RPC logs and I found this connection attempt:
    <snip>
    2014-06-18T15:22:40.902Z,CAS-SERVER,RpcHttp,"S:Stage=EndRequest;S:UserName=domain\admin;S:OutlookSessionId=""{1A731432-5548-402F-892A-C9FE489BB78D}"";S:AuthType=Basic;S:Status=404 Not Found;S:HttpVerb=RPC_IN_DATA;S:UriQueryString=?pdc.domain.local:593;S:RequestId=7b1e355e-6448-4ed4-8112-8ab13d88a76f;S:ClientIp=192.168.0.17"
    </snip>
As you can see the 404 Not Found is for the request to /rpc. I am wondering if maybe this has changed in Exchange 2013 SP1? Or have I got a bigger issue here?

  • Ms-exchange 2013 audit logs retrieving in csv format not working?

I need help regarding pulling specific information from exchange 2013. The information pertains to mail-exchange audit logs. The exchange in my environment is ms-exchange 2013. Steps performed so far are:-
    **step#1**
Create test Environment on Exchange Server 2010 and Active Directory:
Two Mailboxes for testing (with dummy email messages) (i.e., test-mailbox-1, test-mailbox-2)
Two Active Directory Accounts for testing (testAcct01, testAcct02)
Assign Permission to Test Mailboxes: Owner of Email Box test-mailbox-1: testAcct01, Owner of Email Box test-mailbox-2: testAcct02
    **step 2**
Enable Mailbox Auditing on the test-mailbox-1:
Use EMS to enable mailbox auditing on mailbox: test-mailbox-1
        Commands:
        o Set-Mailbox -Identity "test-mailbox-1" -AuditDelegate Copy,Create,FolderBind,HardDelete,Move,MoveToDeletedItems,SendAs,SendOnBehalf,SoftDelete,Update -AuditEnabled $true
        o Set-Mailbox -Identity "test-mailbox-1" -AuditAdmin Copy,Create,FolderBind,HardDelete,MessageBind,Move,MoveToDeletedItems,SendAs,SendOnBehalf,SoftDelete,Update -AuditEnabled $true
Note: You must have permission for Organization Management and Record Management if you want to enable mailbox auditing.
    **step#3**
Verify that the Mailbox Auditing is Successfully enabled for mailbox: test-mailbox-1:
 Use EMS to verify the settings of mailbox auditing
        Command:

        Command:
        o Get-Mailbox "test-mailbox-1" | Format-List *audit*
    **step#5**
Perform  test activities on mailbox “test-mailbox-1” using account id: testAcct02
For Example: Access Inbox folder, move items from one folder to another folder, delete items, read messages, send email using SendAs and SendOnBehalf, create new folder, copy email items etc.
    **step#6**
Perform test activities on mailbox “test-mailbox-1” using “Administrator” Account.
For Example: Access Inbox folder, move items from one folder to another folder, delete items, read messages, send email using SendAs and SendOnBehalf, create new folder, copy email items etc.
    **step#7**
Use EMS Cmdlet to retrieve Mailbox audit logs for mailbox “test-mailbox-1”
        Command:
        o Search-MailboxAuditLog -Identity test-mailbox-1 -LogonTypes Admin,Delegate –ShowDetails -StartDate mm/dd/2014 -EndDate mm/dd/2014 | Export-Csv “c:\test-Audit-Results.csv”
o New-MailboxAuditLogSearch "Admin and Delegate Access" -Mailboxes " test-mailbox-1" -LogonTypes Admin,Delegate -StartDate mm/dd/2014 -EndDate mm/dd/2014 -StatusMailRecipients [email protected]
I'm unable to go past step#7, as I see nothing in csv file. I don't know why is this? any help.

    Hi
i have installed an exchange 2013 cohabitation with exchange 2010 for migration. outlookanywere, ecp, owa, autodiscovery...etc are configurered

i have error 302, 301 to many redirections
    how can i fix this
    thanksin advance

    Hi,
Generally, status 301 means that the resource (page) is moved permanently to a new location. Please refer to Sneff_Gabor's suggetsion to check the Redirect setting s for OWA and ECP in IIS manager.
Additionally, please provide more information about your issue and collect any error logs for further troubleshooting.

  • Exchange 2013 CU6 with DAG - ECP Delete does not go to soft-delete state, retention policy ignored

I am not sure if this is a BUG or this is as intended.  Typically if a mailbox is 'deleted' from the EAC or ECP console the user account is disabled and the mailbox is marked for removal (soft-delete) until the retention policy expires the item (default
30 days). However we deleted a mailbox and the mailbox was purged immediately as well as the user was moved to the hidden recycle bin in Active Directory.
We replicated this issue twice in a DAG environment, we do not have this issue in a non-DAG environment.
Question:  Other than restoring from the backup, is there a way to recover the mailbox?
    Thank You,
    -Jake
Jacob Evans Jake of All Trades

    Hi,
I tested in my lab, Exchange 2013 CU1 with DAG deployed, if I deleted a mailbox from EAC, then it would be a disconnected mailbox and the associated Active Directory user account was also deleted. I could find it under the Disconnected Mailbox.
    Was the mailbox logged ever?
If you delete a mailbox that you never log in, it won't show as disconnected mailbox.
And for the question :"Question:  Other than restoring from the backup, is there a way to recover the mailbox?", I'm afraid you have to recover from backup.

  • Exchange 2013 certtificate and FQDN of CAS/MB servers

    Good Morning,
I have read articles that say I should not need anything but the fqdn names of things like autodiscover.mycompany.com and mail.mycompany.com on the cert you install on the exchange server. I went that route and installed it on every exchange server
but for some reason, the client gets prompted for credentials with this configuration.
When I create a cert with all the CAS/MB FQDN names ( ie. casmb01.mycompany.pvt) on the cert, they do not get prompted and the exhttp allows the outlook client to connect properly.
this is a 2007 to 2013 migration. I am testing just the connectivity and have not put the 2013 as the proxy yet.
The clients also have an internal host name .pvt in the cert so I would imagine this would be a problem for outlook anywhere unless they vpn in and trust the local CA.
Can I use only the autodiscover and mail .mycompany.com
does anyone else have this set up this was?
    thanks
    Paul

    Here's what I would do:
If you are planning on allowing people to access Outlook Anywhere and Active Sync Externally
Since you can only have 1 cert bound to IIS I would create the cert via a 3rd party CA.  They will only give you a cert for publicly accessible tlds. So on that cert you will need mail.company.com, autodiscover.company.com
and legacy.company.com.  The legacy can really be anything you want, and is needed for OWA and  ActiveSync redirection.  Once I have the cert, I would change all the virtual directories to have their respective *.company.com addresses.  In
order for this to work properly with DNS (internally you get an internal address) you will need to create a dns zone called mail.company.com and point that to your 2013 CAS servers and another one for legacy.company.com and point that to your 2007 Servers.
If you are not allowing any external access then you can just create whatever certs you want to via your internal CA.

    Hi,
If it is unable to start Transport service, please try the following method to solve this issue.
    Go to “C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\FIP-FS\Data”
Deleted the file "Configuration.xml" and renamed "Configuration.xml.back" to Configuration.xml.
Then try to re-install Exchange Mailbox Server.
Note: remember to back up the file "Configuration.xml" and "Configuration.xml.back"

  • How to reinstall PowerShell Virtual Directory in IIS 7.5, Exchange 2010 SP1?

Hi, When reinstalling CAS role, accidently removed Powershell virtual directory in IIS and also the powershell folder under ClientAccess folder. Now EMC and EMS not working, all with Kerbrose error and WinRM error. How could I restore PowerShell virtual
directory and make it fully functional without a fully reinstall of EX2010? I tried manually add it in IIS and copy the web.config from another EX2010 server but failed. Can't access its module settings in IIS. How to recreate them? Any Powershell script(but
not the exchange one) can do the job?

  • Exchange 2013 fails Active Directory Prep

This is a new, new, installation of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials followed by Exchange 2013, all on a single server that is also the DC, in a lab environment.   This is to replace an existing SBS2000 installation in a small business.
Server 2012 setup without any significant issues.  The first pass at Exchange 2013 resulted in "access denied" when attempting to access the Exchange Management PS and login credentials failure for Exchange EAC (ECP).   After manually
adding the installation Administrator to a number of the Exchange security groups, I was able to access Exchange Manager.  I checked that there was a mailbox associated with the Installation Admin ID, attempted to reset passwords and a number of other
things to no avail.  I uninstalled Exchange (what a pain).
I reinstalled Exchange.  As with the first time, no prerequisite errors and no installation failure alerts.   Again, I could not access Exchange Manager (access denied) or the EAC (login credentials failure).   This time, I was not
able change the security group permissions to gain access to Exchange Manager.  Again, checked about everything there was to check on the web and found a reference to Exchange possibly not installing correctly due to lingering entries from the first install.
As I could not access Exchange Manager to perform the uninstall prerequisites, I attempted to manually delete it (nothing to loose at this point), but made the anticipated mess.
Wiped the RAID and started over with a clean sheet install of Server 2012 Essentials-OK.  Progressed in the Exchange install prep to "Prepare Active Directory and Domains" (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125224(v=exchg.150).aspx)
and stopped when I could not detect the confirming ADSI entries of AD prep set forth at the close of the TechNet document.
I methodically stepped through the install procedure and again received no prerequisite failures or installation failure alerts.  I examined the install logs and found no errors, either.
    Any words of wisdom?

    Hi,
From your description, Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials and Exchange 2013 are installed on a single server that is also the DC.
Microsoft does not support installing Exchange Server on a server that is running Windows Server Essentials. You need to install Exchange Server on a second server and then join the second server to the Windows Server Essentials domain.

  • Exchange 2013 does not show AD people pictures

    Hello,
Exchange 2013 is configured in hybrid mode with exchange online. Majority of the mailboxes are located in Office 365. Also we have exchange 2007.
When I open mailbox located on exchange 2013 and searching for people- I don't see their pictures.
All pictures are uploaded to AD, also office 365 mailbox owners can see them.
When I check logs on exchange 2013 server, I get 4002 even id:
Process 10556: ProxyWebRequest FederatedCrossForest from S-1-5-21-2000478354-2111687655-1801674531-222614 to

. Name of the server where exception originated: server. Make sure that the Active Directory site/forest that contain the user's mailbox has at least one local Exchange 2010 server running the Availability service. Turn up logging for the Availability service
    and test basic network connectivity.
Somehow, instead of querying user settings from AD, exchange contacting with Office 365?
    My additional configuration:
    1) EWS virtual directory has external URL and Internal URL which is client load balancer. External URL is a URL for Office 365 federation configuration.
2)Autodoscover external DNS records points to the sane URL for EWS (same hostname). Internal dns a record points to exchange 2007 CAS server.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that cannot see account picture for hybrid environment with Office 365 when search people.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Do you have configure the Availability service for cross-forest topologies?
If not, please refer to below link to configure:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125182(v=exchg.150).aspx
Besides, we have to change the thumbnailPhoto attribute for OAB so that OAB can update with photo.
