Exchange, google, and ical

iCal's support for exchange calendar and google calendar is great!
Here is my situation. I use iCal to manage my exchange calendar, which is auto and wirelessly sync to my Blackberry. I also use iCal to manage my google calendar, which sometimes my son can add something on it. All events show on iCal fine. But I would like my google calendar events to also auto/wirelessly show up on my blackberry. Is there a way to do it?
Thanks in advance.

From searching online this appears to be a common bug. iCal alarms will not pop up, or have a random pattern. While I've been typing this two alarms have not appeared.
Changing the "turn off alarms" option in preferences has no effect, neither does deleting the cache files as someone else has suggested. From my digging around it looks like this started with Leopard.
Some people have suggested that rebooting is a temporary fix to this problem, but I don't want to reboot on a regular basis (if I wanted to do that I'd go back to my Windows laptop).
It defies belief that a calendar program can not remind you of events. Interestingly, when I sync to my Nokia N95 every reminder appears fine. In fact this is the only way I have now of not forgetting meetings.
Can we try and assimilate all instances of this in one thread for Apple Support to look and and get some sort of coherent view of the problem? Also please leave details about your versions of OSX, iCal & hardware Thanks.

  • Can I sync my iPhone calendar with exchange server AND ical on my mac ?

I have been happily using my iPhone synced with my Macbook over usb via iTunes.
I have contacts and iCal syncing. I have a number of 'calendars' set up in iCal which allow me to view separate aspects of home and work but they all exist within iCal. iPhone just treats these as colour coded appointments (different colour for each ical calendar)
I really like this set up.
However, I just changed jobs to a firm where they have a hosted outlook exchange set up and I need to use the exchange calendar for work appointments and showing my availability.
I have managed to setup my iPhone to work with the Exchange server for email as well as in apple Mail on my mac. This has all worked fine. However, I hesitated when iPhone asked if i wanted to sync my contacts and calendar. I said no as I was unsure if my private calendar/contacts would be uploaded to the public work area.
In fact it seems that this is the least of my worries:
As I have read on apple support for iPhone:
"Note that after configuring an Exchange ActiveSync account, all existing contact and calendar information on the iPhone or iPod touch is overwritten. Additionally, iTunes no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer. You can still sync your iPhone or iPod touch wirelessly with MobileMe services."
So I am really pleased that I didn't let it sync those and wipe out my personal data if that is really true.
But now I am unsure how best to enable myself to view and update the work calendar on exchange.
Also it would be nice to see work contacts on my iPhone.
    Contacts
    - although i have said no to sync contacts with Exchange in fact it looks like I can get contacts ok - when i send email from the Exchange account on the phone , it searches Exchange contacts on the server as i type in the TO box.
    - also in Contacts on the iPhone I have a new group that has been created with the name of my Exchange account. The group appears to be blank when you go into it on the phone, but you can type in the search box and get contact details from the server just fine.
This seems workable for now for my purposes, although updating contacts is not going to be possible that way.
I'd like more info on that if poss but more importantly..
    Calendar
    - Unlike Contacts, no Calendar has been auto created for Exchange
    - Unlike contacts, I can't see how I can view or search or create an appointment in my Exchange calendar on the iPhone
What is the best solution to this problem - I presume lots of people face the same dilemma. My initial research suggests that there are multiple ways round this but all of them look like workarounds with various disavantages.
    Questions are
    - Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
    - Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
    - What is the best work around for this?
At the moment I am seriously considering getting a separate iPhone for work and have that sync with Exchange fully although that seems a bit drastic and does not solve the problem of seeing work and home appointments on the same calendar.

Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
Only if you're running Snow Leopard and your employer will allow access (different than iPhone/mobile device access, so most likely not), but not needed - keep reading.
Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
No. It was true, but with the v3.0 software that changed - you can now sync your Exchange contacts and calendar over the air, and your Address Book and iCal via iTunes over the docking cable.
What is the best work around for this?
None needed. When you set up the exchange account, and choose to turn on syncing of contacts and calendars, you will be prompted to remove all other data, or keep it on the iPhone. Choose the keep option. Note that in that case, your personal data will not be uploaded to the Exchange server - the iPhone keeps them separate (although you can choose to view them in a merged fashion).
I have this set up on my phone (Exchange calendar along side personal and other calendars from iCal). Same for contacts. Works great.

  • Exchange 2007 and iCal issue

Today I set up my MacBook Pro to my work email. We run Exchange 2007. My mail works great. My contacts also works great. For some reason iCal does not work. I get the following error:
"iCal needs a valid email address to connect to the Exchange account "mike (at) worktankseattle (dot) com".
The email address "mike (at) worktankseattle (dot) com" isn't a valid address for your Exchange account. Enter the email address for your Exchange account, and then click OK. "
mike (at) worktankseattle (dot) com is my email. It is valid. This same email works for ical and contacts. Why does it not work with iCal? Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I was having this problem as well, but other users in my company were not (Mail and Address Book synced fine, but iCal would not - kept stating that I did not have a valid e-mail address). So, I looked through the Exchange 2007 Management Console on the server, and tried to find inconsistencies between my e-mail account and the users who had no problem with iCal.
It turned out that, for some unknown reason, a check box on my e-mail account ("Hide from Exchange address lists") was checked on mine but not the others. Once I unchecked that option, iCal synced up fine.
So, I would suggest that you speak to your Exchange Admin person and ask them to check your specific E-mail Account Properties Page and have them make sure that this box is not checked. I hope that this helps some of you...

  • Calendars :Google and Ical

HOw do I get Google calendar and ical on my Fascinate. I registered Google calendar on my computer with an authorization code but it does not  show up on my phone. Also is there a way to make my phone "discoverable" for my apple computer to sycnh ical with my mobile device. Ical says my mobile is not "discoverable ", even though I have the bluetooth turned on

o set up CalDAV support for Google Calendar in Apple's iCal, follow these steps:
Open Apple iCal, go to Preferences and then the Accounts tab.
Click on the + button to add an account.
In the box that pops up, enter a description for the account and your Google Account username and password.
Under Server Options, add the following URL:
    https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/[email protected]/user
Replace '[email protected]' with the email address that you use to log in to Calendar. Make sure to include the '@domain.com' portion (which is @gmail.com for Gmail users) in this section.
DO NOT substitute your username for 'user' at the end of the URL.
Leave the Use Kerberos v5 for authentication option unchecked.
    Click Add.
Under the Delegation tab, select the calendars you'd like to add to iCal by checking the boxes next to them. You may need to hit refresh to get the latest list of calendars.
Add your email address to your Address Book card by selecting Add Email. You'll be prompted to add your email address only if your address is not already in your Address Book.
You won't be able to invite or email guests to Google Calendar events within iCal if your address is not in your Address Book.
Your Google Calendar will now appear in iCal's list of calendars, and changes you make to your Google Calendar in iCal will be reflected when you sign in to Google Calendar.
Event information will automatically refresh every five minutes. You can change this interval by opening the iCal > Preferences > Accounts menu and selecting a new refresh interval under the 'Refresh calendars' drop-down. Keep in mind you can also force a refresh by selecting a calendar and pressing the Appleand R keys at the same time.

  • Exchange Calendar and iCal : it works with the iPhone, not the Macs

I use iCal with Google Calendar, either on my Macs and iPhone and I am plenty satisfied.
I also need, for my job, tu use an exchange (2007) calendar. It works fin on my iPhone but it doesn't want to start on the Macs. It asks fot an echange server update. Why is it doing differntly on both platforms: OS X and iOS?
Is there a turn around method, cause my IT departement is not willing to consider this upgrade...
    Thnak you for your advices.

  • Google and ICal issues since Safari upgrade

After we recently upgraded Safari, when I add an event to my google calendar or to my ical, which are synced, it shows up twice on the ical calendar.  This only happens for my events--no one else's in our family.  I am the main person on the account.  Also, we are not able to see Google Calendar on safari since we upgraded.

I am trying to publish my google calendar of events onto my web page. In Firefox the calendar displays and all events show up fine. However, in Safari, my google calendar shows up but none of the events are displayed. I have checked & double checked that the sharing settings are correct in google calendars!! I've even made sure to empty all cashes Can anyone help me understand why it works in Firefox but not with Safari??

The password entering scenario doesn't change anything (as usual).
This was an old problem which was mostly solved and stable under 10.7.4 but seems to have returned.

  • Issues with Exchange Account and Q10

Well, I hate to be writing this, but I'm hoping that there might be someone out there that can help get past some first day issues I am experiencing.
The background: I have a long history with legacy BlackBerry devices, and almost as much history with iOS devices. My most recent phone was an iPhone 4S, and I make extensive use of iCloud to keep my iMacs, iPhone, and iPad connected in real-time. The setup worked. It wasn't perfect, but it worked. However, because I used to have a BlackBerry device (most recent the 9930) and because I don't use the iPhone for more than e-mail, iMessage, and phone calls (generally speaking), I decided to give the newest BlackBerry device a shot. So I bought a Q10.
At this point I feel compelled to say that the hardware is everything I had hoped it to be. It's solid, has a good weight, and appears to be made very well. I have no complaints with the hardware, including the keyboard (a big selling factor for me), so I won't really get into the hardware as the issues I am experiencing all have to do with the OS. Let me also say that I am very familiar with the iCloud integration issues (missing Contact photos and disabled Calendar sync), so I'm not voicing a complaint over those issues in this thread.
I have connected my Exchange account. I used to have everything in Exchange before I moved my entire computing world over to Apple, and now I keep Exchange around for e-mail. Therefore, I have no contacts, no tasks, no notes, very limited calendar entries, and a massive amount of e-mail on the Exchange server. However, to test everything out, I have added a single contact record so I can see it show up on the phone and be able to test two-way sync between the Q10 and Exchange. And here is where the first issues crop up. It looks like Exchange connects and then disconnects at random. For example, if I open my Contacts on the phone, I see the one contact (called John Doe). Then, as the phone is sitting there with the screen on, the contact will disappear and I will see a "Start adding contact to your contact list" notice on the screen. Then, after a short period of time, the single contact will return. It is important to note that the entire time this is happening, the All Contacts option is selected in the list so that all available contacts are shown. Additionally, I have SIM card contacts turned off, but if I alter the selection in the view list (All Contacts, Favorites, etc.), the SIM contacts will re-appear when I return to the All Contacts view. At the same time, even though I have turned off SIM Contacts in the settings, the setting has reverted to show SIM Contacts. If I turn off the setting again, SIM Contacts still show up. Possibly related: I can't delete contacts on the SIM card, no matter how many times I try, and it now it seems that I can't get SIM Contacts to go away in the Contacts app.
Likewise, Exchange seems to connect and disconnect from Calendar. I go to the calendar and move day by day to June 15th. I see an entry that I know is from Exchange (I have no other connected calendars at this time), and it is in blue. I change the calendar color to green and the entry changes color, as expected. However, if I jump back to today and then scroll day by day to get to June 15th again, the calendar entry is missing. After a few seconds, the entry re-appears, but it is, once again, in blue. The setting has reverted itself, and it seems like Exchange is completely disconnecting and automatically reconnecting to the phone like I am setting it up again for the first time. Very odd. As I'm typing this, I just saw something odd. I swiped to wake up the phone, and the active frames screen was the visible screen. The calendar app is still running (since I left it running, minimized, when the phone went to sleep) and the date shown in the active card was Jan 1, not Jun 8. Why? The date (and time) on the phone is correct and is set automatically by the cellular system.
Nevertheless, looking at BlackBerry Hub, I see only two e-mails in my Inbox from Exchange, even though I have roughly a dozen in my Inbox. The rest are filed in sub-folders. And bam! Just like that... I get the "Add Accounts" screen while looking at the Hub. In other words, as I was typing this, I first saw two Exchange e-mails and then, out of nowhere, the e-mails disappear and I see the "Add Accounts" screen as if no account has been connected.
So... first question: Is anyone else experiencing this issue? This is very strange, and very frustrating. Second: could this be related to the large amount of e-mails I have stored on Exchange, some of which have large attachments? I selected "Forever" as the sync history length. I have my concerns, however, if this is related to loading historical e-mails onto the phone (in other words, the first sync with Exchange) because there is no reason that I can understand that the phone would blank out as if no account was connected at all. I can understand lag and stuttering while the history is syncing, but not a complete disconnect and reconnect. Considering all of the issues with the one and only contact record disappearing, the calendar entry for Jun 15th disappearing and then reappearing with the wrong calendar color, and e-mail in my Inbox incomplete (two of a dozen e-mails) and ultimately disappearing, I feel like this OS just has some real, significant issues.
Full disclosure: I do want iCloud to work and am a fan of Apple products, but the lack of full iCloud sync support is not a big enough issue for me to want to send back this phone and/or see it fail so miserably. I will happily move my info from iCloud into Exchange, Google, and/or set up a new Exchange account for personal use (Office 365) because I am not wedded to iCloud per se. But, I won't go through that trouble if I can't even get my first account to work properly. It should also be noted that I do have a basic Google account (non-paid) and I had previously attempted to connect to it. However, I was experiencing the exact same issues with contacts disappearing, e-mail disappearing, etc. So I deleted that account. Truth be told, I deleted the Exchange account as well, and then re-connected to Exchange only to test one account at a time. Unfortunately, even with Exchange only, I am seeing very strange and frustrating behavior as described above.
Help... please. I want this to work but the frustration I am feeling is growing worse by the hour.

    To follow-up with this issue:
I ended up performing a security wipe on my device. The security wipe finished, and I was about to reconnect with Exchange when I decided to visit our host's web site to see if they had any articles covering the issues I was experiencing. While they didn't have anything specific, I did find a step-by-step guide to connecting a BB10 device to Exchange... and right there at the end, it said "Do NOT enable memo sync."
I contacted support, and the rep told me that OS 10 has an issue with memo sync and it can cause all sorts of unpredictable behavior. Now, whether or not this is accurate I can say this: So far, the device is not disconnecting and reconnecting like it was before. Problem is, is this a result of not enabling memo sync, or is this a result of the security wipe?
I may have overlooked it, but I don't recall reading anything about that anywhere else. I'm tempted to try re-enabling the memo sync to see if everything blows up again. At least that way I can see for myself if the memo sync is a real issue. Of course, perhaps it's an issue with SherWeb (our host) specifically. Hm...
Anyway, for those that were interested, and for those that may come along in the future with a similar situation, the strange behavior that I first reported is no longer happening. I just don't know if it was a result of a security wipe or a result of not enabling memo sync with Exchange.

  • Existing iCal calenders syncing with new Google Calendar/iCal account

I have been using iCal now for awhile but only recently started using Google Calendars (once I found out they could both be synced together). Anyway, I understand how to set up the sync, it's very simple. But, I have three calendars for personal, school, and work already in iCal that are in the default group profile that iCal starts with of "calendars".
Anyway, when you create a new account in iCal to set up the syncing, it creates a whole new calendar group for your profile. I had never had an "account" before, so all my three main calendars are separate from this new account. Is there anyway to move or duplicate those calendars into my new calendar group so that I can have one flowing set of synced information between google and iCal without manually retyping all of the information myself? I have tried dragging the calendars down into the other group and all you can do is reorder them within the group they're already in. Even a duplication would work, if that is possible (to duplicate a whole calendar).
Any insight from anyone would be incredibly helpful.
    Thanks a ton,
    Zac

It sounds like instead of opening your Mail App, you actually opened your Settings App, and were somehow in the 'Add Account' section of Mail, Contacts & Calendars.
Close the apps, and then reopen just the Mail App.

How can you synchronize your Exchange calendar with your Google calendar? I have an Exchange account and Google Sync set up on my iPhone 4. Install the Google Sync plugin for Outlook on your computer, and sync the iPhone calendar to Google. Of course, this means that your computer must always be on.

  • How to get Exchange ActiveSync, MobileMe, iCal, and AddressBook to coexist

From reading these forums, I have come to understand that an ActiveSync-enabled iP3G will not sync with iCal and AddressBook running on my iMac. The workaround proposed is to get a MobileMe account so that the iMac's information is made available to 'the cloud', from where it is pushed to the iP3G, thus making my iMac's contacts and calendars available on the iP3G.
My present desktop setup involves Entourage 2004 communicating with my company's Exchange Server to offer up my email, and, through Entourage's Sync Services preference, place my Exchange calendar into iCal. (I use Sync Services only for calendar events, not contacts.) Thus, iCal on my desktop shows an "Entourage" calendar generated by that program, and additional Personal and Children calendars; my AddressBook has only personal contacts, and not any Exchange contact information.
So, the iP3G will now get business mail, business contacts, and business calendar using ActiveSync directly from the Exchange server. Using the MobileMe workaround will allow AddressBook to offer my personal contacts to the cloud, from where they will be pushed to the iP3G, and that is great. The MobileMe workaround will also send my iCal calendars to the cloud and then the iP3G, and this is what leads to my question.
iCal already has a business events calendar called "Entourage", and I assume this calendar will get pushed to the iP3G along with the Personal and Children calendars that are on my iMac. The iP3G is also getting a business events calendar pushed to it through ActiveSync. How does one avoid the resulting duplication of business events on the iP3G. One solution would be to turn off Sync Services for events in Entourage so that it does not create its calendar in iCal, but I would prefer to avoid this as I like seeing all my calendars in one place (in iCal) on my desktop.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The minimum requirement for iCloud on your Mac is Lion 10.7.2 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
You can set Snow Leopard up to access the email on an existing iCloud account which has been set up on a compliant device, and you may be able to sync iCal using an unsupported (and possibly unreliable) hack, but no other facilities will work. You cannot open an iCloud account on Snow Leopard.
This page outlines the limited use you can make of an existing iCloud account with Snow Leopard:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudSL.html
To make full use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). (If you are currently pre-Snow Leopard you will have to upgrade to that to access the Mac App Store: it's available in the online Apple Store.)
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • AirWatch and Exchange/Google accounts.

I am employed by a quasi-government agency, and I have a work iDevice which is owned by that agency. I also have a personal iPhone and iPad which I own.
The work iDevice has AirWatch installed. My work Exchange account--e-mail/calendar/contacts--are synced to the device. My personal iPhone and iPad do not have AirWatch installed. My personal Google account--e-mail/calendar/contacts--are synced to the device.
It's pretty important to my staying consistently organized that I have all my appointments, work and personal, in one place. I would like to be able to see my work calendar and my personal calendar on both my work and my personal devices. All other data I'm more than happy to keep separate.
Though it seems to me like the MDM configuration should prevent this, it appears I am currently able to add my Exchange work account to my personal devices and my Google personal account to my work device. (The former demonstrably works; I haven't followed through with the setup of the latter but there seems to be no barrier to it.) If I were to keep these accounts on, I would turn off all syncing except for calendars. Given this set of circumstances:
If I add my Exchange work calendar to my personal device, does the personal device somehow become peripherally enrolled in AirWatch--or is the configuration really just that non-secure? What kind of data does AirWatch, Exchange, and/or Apple permit my employer to query, see, or wipe?
If I add my personal Google calendar to my work device, what kind of data does AirWatch, Google, and/or Apple permit my employer to query, see, or wipe?
I'm honestly not trying to duck a BYOD policy; to the extent that one exists, it's so outdated that it only addresses Blackberrys. And I have tried multiple times without success to get some honest answers from IT about this and have been (shockingly) unable to cut through the red tape. I just, you know. Want to not miss my appointments. While also being relatively sure that my employer cannot check out my YouTube history.
(Not, um, that there's anything wrong with my YouTube history. Anyhoo.)
Any insight you can provide would be deeply appreciated, including if there's some obvious way I'm not thinking of to keep the two calendars automatically synced.

No. We didn't change a thing. Maybe you don't have the right ports open on your firewall...
    ActiveSync needs TCP ports 443, 990, 999, 5720, 5678-5679, and 26675 open. You may also need 80, 143, 110, and 25 open.

  • Sync ical to google and outlook cal.

Hi, if  I create a event, appt, or anything in ical, can i sync it to google and outlook cal's.   or if i create an event in outlook  or google cal first can i sync it to all other calenders.  If possible how do I co-exsist all 3 calenders.

    Hia.
The only way i got this to work (not flawless) was to make a new callendar in Googlecal and then add it to iCal. This way it autosync when adding/removing nodes.
