Exchange invitations in iCal

I recently updated to Lion and somehting strange has happened with my email.
I work in a company that has runs exchange server. I used to receive meeting invitations including details about meeting time as well as dial in information and PIN codes for conference calls. I would either "Accept" or "Decline" to join a meeting and if I accepted, then the meeting details wouls automatically show up in iCal. In addition to that, those same details would also show up on my iPhone.
Right around the time I upgraded to Lion and set up iCloud, something strange has happened. I still receive invitations to meeting from my colleagues but now when I accept the invitiation, the event does not show up in iCal and the details are completely lost.
Needless to say I have been missing a lot of meeting lately!!!! Doh!!! Maybe this is a feature?
Suggestions?
Thanks, in advance for assistance.
John

  • Remove Exchange Calendar from iCal

I have an Exchange Calendar in iCal (Mountain Lion) that I want to remove. How can I do this? If I select it and choose Edit the Delete option is greyed out. The account is not listed in Preferences > Advanced either.
I want to delete it because every time I receive an invitiation in Outlook for Mac, the invite is being placed in the iCal calendar, but does not appear in my Outlook calendar.

I think I discovered where iCal/Calendar is getting the Exchange calendar data from. Initially I wondered whether the iPad/iPhone were doing something odd, but no, the Exchange mail account was set to sync Contacts and Calendar on both, via Active Sync.
I then plugged both devices into the Macbook and opened iTunes and checked the Info tab - "Sync Calendars" was not ticked.
I then discovered that in Mountain Lion a change was made to the Mac System Preferences under Mail, Contacts and Calendar - I saw my Exchange account listed and so clicked to edit it. It brought up a screen showing that Calendar was ticked. I unticked this and my appointments sent to me in Outlook are no longer appearing in ical - which is what i wanted.
Hope this might help someone else.

  • Exchange invite is not appearing in email (using mail)

    Hi,
I am using Mail under Tiger for my email system. I have just been sent an ics invite email from the office exchange server, however mail is not showing me the attachement, so I cannot add it to iCal. If I look at the raw message I can see the ics attachement, but for some reason mail isn't picking it up!
I have mail set to not automatically add invites to iCal, although setting it to automatic doesn't make a difference. As far as I am aware this invite was sent directly from the exchange server.
    any help ?

same is happening with me. my girlfriend sent me a few invites for events she has in her outlook calender at work in exactly the same way she has always done. I had the option to accept the events before, now it just shows the text part of the mime message (again I can see the ics in the raw message) in Mail and does not create a new event in iCal. I have turned the option in the mail general prefs on and off again to no avail, could it be that I have multiple calanders and there is no option in Mail to choose qwhich calaender the mail events go to? I dont really want to trash my mail prefs unless absolutely necessary

  • How to setup Invitations in iCal on a Server

    Hi everyone!
Since some time now, I'm facing slight difficulties using iCal in conncetion with its built in invitations feature. So here's my problem:
Some how we're not able to send innvitations via iCal to some of our staff members. We have 15 staff members, all using thier own CalDAV Account on a SL-Server (MacPro). As you create an event an want to invite somebody, iCal often doesn't recognize the Person to be invited.
I know that iCal uses the adressbook app to find the people to be invited.
So this is where our second issue arises. We're using a CardDAV Account containing a serverbased addressbook that contains vcards of all employees, customers, partner etc. Each employee has its own Mac mini running Lion.Their adressbook app is set up with this one cardDAV Account. This way we should all be using just one addressbook located on the server right? (this is basically what we would like to have. A single addressbook located on the server containing every vcard we need. Everybody should have the permit to add, delete or modify each vcard contained).
Unfortunately all client-macs show multiple vcards of each vcard located on the server so that I suppose there's something wrong with the syncing process. Also, if someone creats a new vcard on its client within the adressbook on the server, this new vcard isn't published, so nobody else can see it or have accsses to it via iCal.
Any ideas where this issue could come from?
Back to iCal: as we add some staff members to newly created events in iCal, some staff members are recognized by iCal showing the ?-statussymbol, and some are not recognized showing a small lightning-statussymbol. This is an issue we'd likt to fix.
I have to appologize in case you don't get my point. So to make it more clear what we would like to come out with at the end, let me tell you our goal:
We'd like to have a single adressbook located on our server. Each staff member conntects to this adressbook via a single CardDAV (all members will use the same account), so that each staff member has access to the addressbook located on the server and is capable of adding, deleting or modifiying the contained vcards. If a staff member adds, deletes or modifys a vcard, this should be automatically updated to the server an synced to all other staff members.
After this is done, we'd like iCal to properly handle invitations. iCal should recognize all staff member by name and automatically adds its email address. iCal should invite the added staff member to the event, so that the invitee will recieve the inviatation within its iCal only.
If you have any questions regarding my explained issue, please feel free to contact me. This is a rather urgent matter for us, as we're experiencing these issues for about 2 years now...
    Looking forward to your answers!
    Regards,
    Moritz

Since you are showing more than 1 of the same user, I imagine that you have the open directory bridge 'Search for user accounts' enabled in the AB service.
The ? symbol is normal when iCal doesn't know where to lookup the user's free/busy details.
On the client side, perhaps 1 AB entry contains the info needed and the other doesn't.
Instead of typing the name in ical attendees, try dragging the entry from AB.
Try one occurence of a user, then the other occurence of the same user.
I'm thinking when you let ical choose, its grabbing the incomplete entry in some cases..
this might not be the solution, but hopefully puts you on a path towards it :-)

  • How to send invitations from iCal in a different language?

My MBP is setup for Dutch, but when I make an invitation in iCal I want this to be send in English. How can I achieve this automatically (and easy)?
    Bert

I have the same problem. Does anyone know if it is possible for a PC user to receive and open an iCal event inviation? So far, my recipients have been unable to open my event invitations.

  • How to get Exchange ActiveSync, MobileMe, iCal, and AddressBook to coexist

From reading these forums, I have come to understand that an ActiveSync-enabled iP3G will not sync with iCal and AddressBook running on my iMac. The workaround proposed is to get a MobileMe account so that the iMac's information is made available to 'the cloud', from where it is pushed to the iP3G, thus making my iMac's contacts and calendars available on the iP3G.
My present desktop setup involves Entourage 2004 communicating with my company's Exchange Server to offer up my email, and, through Entourage's Sync Services preference, place my Exchange calendar into iCal. (I use Sync Services only for calendar events, not contacts.) Thus, iCal on my desktop shows an "Entourage" calendar generated by that program, and additional Personal and Children calendars; my AddressBook has only personal contacts, and not any Exchange contact information.
So, the iP3G will now get business mail, business contacts, and business calendar using ActiveSync directly from the Exchange server. Using the MobileMe workaround will allow AddressBook to offer my personal contacts to the cloud, from where they will be pushed to the iP3G, and that is great. The MobileMe workaround will also send my iCal calendars to the cloud and then the iP3G, and this is what leads to my question.
iCal already has a business events calendar called "Entourage", and I assume this calendar will get pushed to the iP3G along with the Personal and Children calendars that are on my iMac. The iP3G is also getting a business events calendar pushed to it through ActiveSync. How does one avoid the resulting duplication of business events on the iP3G. One solution would be to turn off Sync Services for events in Entourage so that it does not create its calendar in iCal, but I would prefer to avoid this as I like seeing all my calendars in one place (in iCal) on my desktop.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The minimum requirement for iCloud on your Mac is Lion 10.7.2 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
You can set Snow Leopard up to access the email on an existing iCloud account which has been set up on a compliant device, and you may be able to sync iCal using an unsupported (and possibly unreliable) hack, but no other facilities will work. You cannot open an iCloud account on Snow Leopard.
This page outlines the limited use you can make of an existing iCloud account with Snow Leopard:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudSL.html
To make full use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). (If you are currently pre-Snow Leopard you will have to upgrade to that to access the Mac App Store: it's available in the online Apple Store.)
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Add alarms to accepted ics invites in iCal?

I found several discussions regarding editing .ics invitations in iCal but all were several years old.  Here's hoping that there is something more recent.
Most of the time, I simply want to add an alarm to the invited event.  I cannot:  drag the event to the desktop, as suggested in one answer, because "only the organizer can edit this event"; duplicate the event without sending notifications to everyone else invited; and of course, there is no 'edit' button available.
Is there any solution out there that is quicker and simpler than creating a dummy event for just adding a separate alarm?

    Hi John,
I never expected to get the developer on here!
Here's how I've got it set up...
    General tab
I've got the Sync Address Book dates to iCal checked.
For Birthday events and Anniversary events I've got the text "Birthdays and Anniversaries" so that they both go into the same calendar.
I've left only sync for group blank as I want it for all.
    Titles tab
For both Birthday and Anniversary I've got the the same fields, set to...
        First name | Last name | : | type | age
    Alarms tab
    In this tab I've got
Email:  5 days before at 08:00 ticked for Birthdays and Anniversaries
Message:  4 days before at 10:00 ticked for Birthdays and Anniversaries
I've got no other alarms set.
I've got the email set to my personal email address.
The path for the alarms to my Home folder
    Sound for alarms as Basso
When I then close Dates 2 iCal it creates the events in iCal, but not the alarms.
One further query, I've just done a reinstall of my system and since reinstalling Dates 2 iCal the Buy/Register button is greyed out, so I'm unable to reregister it, I purchased it a good while back as I've found it a really useful tool.
    Many thanks
    Steve

  • How do I sync exchange tasks with iCal?

How do I sync exchange tasks with iCal?

For all of the wonderful and awesome things Apple has done and is doing (including winning me over from the Microsoft camp) there are certain things they absolutely are failing at.  Syncing is one of them.  If you want/need Exchange tasks synced with iOS 5 Reminders, USE OFFICE 2011 on Mac OSX Lion instead of iCal, Mail and Address Book and then LIFE IS WONDERFUL!!!  Works beautifully...  Exchange notes work great on Mac in Office 2011 but doesn't yet sync to iPhone notes (hopefully that will eventually get there too).  Pass this around, I spent hours to figure this out...

  • Cannot Send Event Invites From iCal

I cannot send invited from iCal.
I am running Lion version 10.8.5.
When I create a new event and try to invite others to the event their name is grayed out with a question mark next to it.
My apple ID uses a gmail email address.
I am using iCloud and syncing to Googlralso using Caldev and I have IOS devices, an  iPhone & iPad and an Android phone
Any ideas anyone or is this a common problem ?

Hello. Did you ever find a solution to this issue? I'm having the same one. My wife's iCal invitations are showing up in my iCal "Inbox" but are not coming to me via email. I discovered this while troubleshooting the issue just now...and saw that I had 10+ iCal invites for which I never received email notifications.
I never proactively check iCal, so definitely need to resolve this issue, as receiving emailed invitations is the only way they're filed into my iCal. Thanks for any insight!

  • Issues sending invites from Ical to Outlook

When i send an Invite via Ical to my colleagues (using Outlook) they receive a mail with the ICS file with the correct time proposal, but in the title of the message there is a different time menitioned (1 hour difference). What setting should i change? We are all acting in the same time-zone.

I had to send the invitation on a floating time zone to solve that problem

  • Why wont iCal acknowledge accepted invites? iCal to iCal?

    Good afternoon:
Today, I'm using Lion and my daughter is using the latest version of Snow Leopard, but this was a problem when we were both using Snow Leopard too.
I send her and my wife and invitation via iCal. Wife accepts and in the event it shows she has accepted. Daughter accepts and it does not. I have the email with the attachment and I have iCal set to retrieve the invitations automatically and yet.....nothing.
Ultimately, it doesn't matter since I have the email so I know she has it on her calendar but it still cranks me. Why do some iCal to iCal invitations not work?
Mine are sent from my .Mac address and go to my daughters POP account and she responds to my .Mac account. Can it really be that iCal invitations only work between .Mac email addresses? Surely not.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

    smorgus,
Or was it because I told Mac Mail (aka Mail.app) that my default email reader is Thunderbird? In Preferences > General > Default email reader.
AFAIK, that is one of the purposes of that preference.
    ;~)

  • Accepting invites in iCal

Currently I have a problem accepting invites in iCal on the mac. Specifically after pressing accept I get the following error:
The request for “invite title” in “Calendar” in account “MobileMe” failed.
    The server responded with
    “HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request”
    to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation.
If I accept the ics on the iphone however it adds it to the iphone calendar, but then does not sync with mobile me.
    Any help great appreciated.
    Cheers

I am having the exact same problem when trying to SEND invitations. I removed my me.com account from Mobile Me and then re-created it hoping that would solve the problem, but.... The problem persists. This just began happening yesterday -- long after the most recent iCal update. And, I have no alarms as part of the invitations I send. Any ideas?

  • How do I stop receiving calendar invites on iCal/iCloud and use exchange 2013 calendar instead?

I Have an exchange 2013 email account which isn't registered as part of my iCloud account.
i Use my outlook calendar (exch) for work and the same exch calendar day to day from all my iOS devices.
when a colleague or outside email away from my company sends me a calendar meeting request, it works fine. (Using my exch email as the invite recipient).
my girlfriend sends me a meeting request from her hotmail account using the same exch email address for me, but he. Invites always arrive to my iCloud/iCal calendar instead! I can't seem to change it so I often miss diary notes or reminders unless I constantly look at both calendars.
i Just want to use exchange calendar and lose iCal (or if easier sync both iCal and exchange calendars vica versa - but that may be over complicating the issue, basically I just need one calendar and would rather it be my outlook exchange cal)
    any ideas?

    Hello again,
False alarm..... it didnt work sorry.
I removed the iCal accounts from my mac, and also from my iphone. Then when my partner sent me a calendar invite it simply didnt arrive at all!
She has a hotmail account installed on her IOS iphone 5.
She is sending the invite to my exch 2013 email address which is not associated with any icloud account.
My exch 2013 email is installed in both my Outlook for mac 2011 and IOS device Iphone 5s.
When I switch the iCloud Calendar back on in my iphone 5s, the invite comes through but ONLY optional to the icloud calendar. I cannot seem to get it receiving on my default calendar which is set to Exchange 2013 account.
Its very strange as its only her invites that do this. Anyone else's come through on my exchange calendar because its the same email address receeving it my end.
