Error: ORA 447
Text: fatal error in background process
Cause: One of the background processes completed unexpectedly.
Action: Restart the system.
Check and, if necessary, correct the problem indicated by the
background trace file in BACKGROUND_DUMP_DEST.
*** Important: The notes below are for experienced users - See Note:22080.1
Diagnosis:
- Check the alert log and trace files for all trace files around
the time of the error. It is common for one trace to point at another
process. Follow the list until you get a file with a real
error in it. If unsure collect ALL trace files.
- If all traces point to a process with no tracefile (Eg: LGWR)
check whether any new tablespaces or datafiles have been added
recently
Check whether sum(number of datafiles +
number of redolog files +
number of controlfiles)
is less than
(user's unix open file limit. eg. nfile on SUN,
maxfile on HP)Regards

Got error when use case statement in oracle stored procedure
Hi,
I have a query like:
select merchant_id,
case
when product_type='K' then 'Production'
when product_carrier='UC' THEN 'Shipping'
end the_type
from product_tbl
where merchant_id=10114
It works fine. But as soon as I put it into a stored procedure, I got error like:
Encountered the symbol "CASE" when expecting one of the following:
( - + mod null <an identifier>
Please help!Oracle 8i doesn't support CASE into PL/SQL, so as Kamal said, create a view with the CASE, and use this view into your PL/SQL.
Nicolas.
And an example here :

Got error ORA-06502 when creating a report page
Hi,
I got ORA-06502 error message when trying to create a report page using one particular query (see below). It happened in the 'SQL Query' step. After put query in the text box and click on 'Next' button, the error message read
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
Exactly same query running in sqlplus session against same database and same schema can run thru fine.
I wonder if anybody can give me a pointer what could be wrong with the query, and how to debug.
The query is

Why I got error ORA-02429 when I tried to drop a tablespace?
I use the following command to drop the tablespace:
drop tablespace users including contents and datafiles;The error message is below:
Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-02429: cannot drop index used for enforcement of unique/primary key
00604. 00000 - "error occurred at recursive SQL level %s"
*Cause: An error occurred while processing a recursive SQL statement
(a statement applying to internal dictionary tables).
*Action: If the situation described in the next error on the stack
can be corrected, do so; otherwise contact Oracle Support.However, I have removed all the tables and indexes in this tablespace.
Nothing found when I issued the following enquiries.
select index_name from user_indexes where TABLESPACE_NAME = 'USERS';
select table_name from user_tables where TABLESPACE_NAME = 'USERS';Is there anything I missed?
Thanks in advance.999274 wrote:

As for your question
=================================================
Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
Go to [url tahiti.oracle.com]tahiti.oracle.com.
Locate the link for your Oracle product and version, and click on it.
You are now at the entire documentation set for your selected Oracle product and version.
<b><i><u>BOOKMARK THAT LOCATION</u></i></b>
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab (for 10.x) or the "Master Book List" link (for 11.x) you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth. They are <b><i><u>reference</b></i></u> manuals. Just get familiar with <b><i><u>what</b></i></u> is there to <b><i><u>be</b></i></u> referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.

Application batch job running got error ORA-03113
Problem: when application batch job running, application system always receive this error: ORA-03113 and job stop.
Application system: dynamic system AX
ORACLE system: ORACLE 10.2.0.4.0
The listener configuration setting is :
INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT_LISTENER = 0
SUBSCRIBE_FOR_NODE_DOWN_EVENT_LISTENER = OFF
Whether this is the problem of listener setting? "INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT_LISTENER = 0" indicate 0 seconds or no limit?I only find the error message in the Client server (application server).
below is some example of it.
The database reported (session 56 (mtihz)): ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE
. The SQL statement was: "SELECT A.PURCHID,A.PURCHNAME,A.ORDERACCOUNT,A.INVOICEACCOUNT,A.FREIGHTZONE,A.EMAIL,A.DELIVERYDATE,A.DELIVERYTYPE,A.ADDRESSREFRECID,A.ADDRESSREFTABLEID,A.INTERCOMPANYORIGINALSALESID,A.INTERCOMPANYORIGINALCUSTACCO12,A.CURRENCYCODE,A.PAYMENT,A.CASHDISC,A.PURCHPLACER,A.INTERCOMPANYDIRECTDELIVERY,A.VENDGROUP,A.LINEDISC,A.DISCPERCENT,A.DIMENSION,A.DIMENSION2
Object Server 01: The database reported (session 58 (zhlhz)): ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
. The SQL statement was: "SELECT A.SPECTABLEID,A.LINENUM,A.CODE,A.BALANCE01,A.REFTABLEID,A.REFRECID,A.SPECRECID,A.PAYMENT,A.PAYMENTSTATUS,A.ERRORCODEPAYMENT,A.FULLSETTLEMENT,A.CREATEDDATE,A.CREATEDTIME,A.RECVERSION,A.RECID FROM SPECTRANS A WHERE ((SUBSTR(NLS_LOWER(DATAAREAID),1,7)=NLS_LOWER(:in1)) AND ((REFTABLEID=:in2) AND (REFRECID=:in3)))"
but when I use PL/SQL Developer to run the scripts. there is no problem.
And we always met errors when application team run long time batch, about 20 - 30 minutes or even longer.
When they run 5 or 10 minutes job, there is no error occur. -

Hi Team,
I am running one conc programme.
After running I am getting below error. I checked the issue on metalink and other, seems that it is an size related issue. I have increased the size of formula columns and placeholdder too.
But still getting issue.
My requirement is to get comma seperated values using SQL query itself. Neither i wanted to create layout of the report , since it is a XML publisher report and nor I am including it on RTF template.
I want the CF_10 formula column to be populated with comma seperated values.
MSG-00187: From Date 01-Sep-2014
REP-1401: 'cf_10formula': Fatal PL/SQL error occurred.
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error
And Here is my code for CF_10
function CF_10Formula return Number is
begin
SELECT NVL(TO_CHAR(sum(Amount),'99,99,99,999'),0) into :CP_5 --NVL(ROUND(sum(Amount)),0) into :CP_5
-- xxhw_Coll_cat(category) "Intercat Catg"
FROM hhxw_Region_col_v
WHERE Category IN ('Intercompany - CATV')
AND trunc(gl_date) BETWEEN TO_DATE(:P_FROM_DATE, 'DD/MM/RRRR') AND TO_DATE(:P_TO_DATE, 'DD/MM/RRRR');
RETURN ROUND(:CP_5);
end;
Anyone please suggest me.
Regards,
SachinHi,
1)Why are you selecting the value into a report item? Select into a local variable and return that
RETURN :CP_5 --> This one!!
2)And you should avoid applying functions to DB columns in where clauses wherever possible, so oracle can use indexes on them if applicable:
AND gl_date >= To_date(:P_FROM_DATE, 'DD/MM/RRRR')
AND gl_date < To_date( :P_TO_DATE, 'DD/MM/RRRR') + 1;
I think you are taking 2 column in the Layout CF_10 and CP_5 right? if so, then use below Query.
FUNCTION cf_10formula
RETURN NUMBER
IS
v_amount NUMBER:null;
IS
BEGIN
BEGIN
SELECT nvl(round(SUM(amount)), 0)
INTO v_amount --> Retruns the value for CF_10 column
FROM hhxw_region_col_v
WHERE category IN ( 'Intercompany - CATV' )
AND gl_date >= to_date(:P_FROM_DATE, 'DD/MM/RRRR')
AND gl_date < to_date( :P_TO_DATE, 'DD/MM/RRRR') + 1;
:CP_5 := nvl(trunc(v_amount),0); --> Retruns the value for CP_5 column
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
v_amount := 0;
srw.message(1003,'Error in Getting :' ||p_from_date);
END;
END;
And
If you've got a number function returning into a number field then all you should need to do to make the comma appear is to change the number format mask in field.

Hi All,
I am trying to run a report containing the images stored in blob column in database 10g, while running the report I got following error ..
ORA-24801: illegal parameter value in OCI lob function
Cause: One of the parameter values in the OCI lob function is illegal.
Action: Check every parameter in the OCI Lob function call to make sure they are correct. Offsets should be greater than or equal to one.
I didn't understand with this the cause and the solution of error....Any body could please tell what exactly it means and what we should do.
Any help will be highly appriciated.
Best RegardsHi Don,
The reason why i posted the item on 'data Connectivity issues' is because i suspect the problem is with the connection string.Though i had provided the correct connection string,re-writing the connection string with the same info might help to fix the issue with loading the report.
Does it mean that there is a problem in the connectivity?
I have a risk here that i cant re-write the connection string..i.e to open the RPT file in VS2005 and bind it.The production web server & database server sits in a third party environment and it is not in the company network.So i cant connect to this server to re-write from any other severs in the network.
Is there any fix which can applied to the server to get this issue resolved?
Cheers

Oracle errors : ORA-01172 & ORA-01151
HI
I am running oracle 10G on win XP .
3 days ago when i logged in i got following 2 errors .
ORA-01172: recovery of thread 1 stuck at block 1381 of file 2
ORA-01151: use media recovery to recover block, restore backup if needed
as i was new to this error , i was searching on the net what has caused this error ?
But again now on yesterday when i tried to login i got the new messge
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
I had checked for all oracle services & litsner files . All are working fine even i re-started all services . I am unable to move further . Help is appriciated .
thnx in advanceORA-01152: file string was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
Cause: An incomplete recovery session was started, but an insufficient number of logs were applied to make the database consistent. This file is still in the future of the last log applied.The most likely cause of this error is forgetting to restore the file from a backup before doing incomplete recovery.
Action: Either apply more logs until the database is consistent or restore the database file from an older backup and repeat recovery.
