I just recently moved to CC from CS5. Save as fails everytime. Crashes the app sometimes.

    Please Help.

You need to pass a full file path to the export command… Probably need to change the extension too.

  • Trying to not save artboard when exporting or using save for web and devices

    Hello,
I am using AI CS5 and I am trying to save a logo that is on an 8.5 x 11 artboard.  When I try to export or 'save for web and devices', I am getting the entire artboard to be saved - not just the logo like I want.  I have never had this issue in CS3, and just started using CS5 so I am not sure if there is a new feature that I need to be turning off to just save the logo instead of the entire 8.5x11 page.
    Any help is appreciated,
    Kristie

  • Exporting animation using Save for Web and Devices problem

The animation plays as it should when the "Play" button is pressed at the bottom of the "Save for Web and Devices" Menu , but when I Preview it the individual frames don't disappear once they've shown , so you can see them all at the end of the animation . This is also how they save as a .gif ( although using the "Save as html" option reverts to looking as it should , each frame appearing and disappearing in turn) How do I save as gif without this happening? Many thanks for any help

  • Gif and JPG save for web file sizes in CS2 and CS3

    Gif 64 dittered default CS2=2.63KB CS3=4.83KB
    JPG CS2Low=1.42KB CS3=4.03KB
    JPG CS2Medium=1.90KB CS3=4.51KB
    JPG CS2High=3.38KB CS3=5.99KB
Why? Is there any solution besides keep using CS2 for web?
    Thank's in advance.
    regards
    Fernando Bergamaschi

Each of the three JPG files increases by the same amount -- 2.61 Kbytes. That sure sounds like some common header block is being added in CS3. Did you check the "Optimize menu" button next to "Preset" just to make double-sure "Include XMP" isn't enabled? Or some other setting like that? Or check both images in Bridge to see if something is being added.

  • Export Gif? Save for web?

Do either of these options exist in InDesign, anywhere, with a plugin or whatever?
    Thanks!

    What app would that be?
As much as each of us here would like to have one-more-feature in ID or our other favorite apps, I like it that Adobe has retreated from overwhelming featuritis in every app, and has compartmented functions in sensible ways.
When a maker tries to put every conceivable feature into an app, no matter how obscure or unwanted or infrequently used, you end up with unusable, buggy junk that is too hard to use efficiently.
As vast an array of publication and design projects as I do, I can't imagine a workflow where I would need/want to use ID to end up with a GIF for a web designer. Your choices and needs are very narrow, so it's not surprising that it takes at least two tools and some ingenuity to get from start to finish. I have some similar workflows that are driven by outside needs and require a desktop juggling act to complete... but I still wouldn't want the features built into any one app. The human in the chair is still the final uber-app. :)

  • Why does the Fireworks save for web function give better results than in Photoshop?

Having used the trial version of Fireworks, I have noticed that the save for web function gives greater compression and image quality than saving for web in Photoshop. Why is this?
As Adobe are not continuing in developing Fireworks, does anyone know if will they will improve the save for web function in Photoshop to match the Fireworks version?
Are there any third party companies who anyone can recommend who will process large volumes of images for web?
    Thanks

One of my favourite topics ;-P
First, the save for web function in Photoshop has not seen any real updates in a long time. In Fireworks PNG export allows for fully transparent optimized files with indexed 256 or less colours, which is impossible in the save for web function in Photohop. It is unsupported.
This is one of the reasons why Fireworks does a much better job than Photoshop. Another reason is that Photoshop adds meta junk in its exported files, and this also increases the file size (and should be removed, because there are also a number of fields which include information about your setup).
One other caveat is that Photoshop's save for web functions neither allows for a choice in chroma subsampling, and instead decides automatically below a certain quality threshold to degrade the colour sharpness quality. The user has no control over this. (Fireworks also limits the user this way.)
One thing to be careful of: FW's jpg quality setting, and PS's quality settings are very different - a 50 in Photoshop is not the same 50 setting in Fireworks.
For jpg optimization I generally use RIOT (free): http://luci.criosweb.ro/riot/
(When you install, be careful NOT to install the extra junkware!)
Fireworks cannot change the chroma subsampling to 4:2:0, which does degrade the quality a bit compared to RIOT and Photoshop in my experience. Photoshop adds useless meta information, even if the user tells it not to do that. RIOT allows you to remove that information, saving 6k. RIOT also offers an automatic mode that optimizes existing jpg images without degrading the quality further, and often saves 10k or more, depending on the images.
Interestingly enough, in my tests exported Fireworks jpg images are always reduced in file size by RIOT, due to FW's jpg export limitations, without any image degradation.
In my tests FW's jpg quality versus file size turns out to be the worst of all three. RIOT generally wins, or is at least on par with Photoshop.
As for PNG export, Photoshop's save for web function is quite abysmal. No 256 colour full transparency export is possible, while Fireworks does support this.
Having said that, there is a free alternative that leaves both Photoshop AND Fireworks in the dust: Color Quantizer. http://x128.ho.ua/color-quantizer.html
CQ is an amazing little tool: with it anyone can create PNG files with full transparency and reduced to ANY number of colours! It means that a 512 colour PNG with full transparency is now very easy to do. On top of that, for more difficult images a simple quality mask brush tool allows the user to control and retain even small colour details in a PNG, while reducing the file size to an absolute minimum.
CQ is one of the best kept secrets of a Web Developer's toolkit. And it is free!
Both RIOT and Color Quantizer have a built-in batch mode. Both are available for WIndows. Not for Mac. If you are on a Mac, try imageOptim. Not nearly as good as RIOT and CQ, but quite passable.
PS to be fair, the newest versions of Photoshop do allow for export of 8bit PNGs with full transparency through the use of its Generator functionality. But again, it cannot compete with CQ. And as far as I am aware, Generator cannot be used in Photoshop's batch processing (which, btw, is very slow! For simpler daily image processing tasks I have to do in batches, I prefer IrfanView, which is lightning fast! IrfanView).

  • IBooks author color shift with "Save for web devices..."

Hi! I'm a web developer and I'm learning to use iBooks. It's a really easy tool, but there is a problem with color management wich is driving me crazy. This happen when I export images from "Save for web devices..." from Photoshop, then drag it to iBooks author.
As I do for web development, I do this:
    1) Configure photoshop Color Settings to work with "Color Monitor"
    2) Remove any color management from my document
    3) Proof Setup > Monitor RGB
    4) Disable Proof Colors
    5) Use "Save for web devices..." with ICC profile and sRGB unchecked
The exported JPG looks fine everywhere... Photoshop, Preview, Safari, Chrome, FF... but looks washed out when I drag it to iBooks Author. Why?
I solved this issue converting to sRGBIEC61966-2.1 profile and checking ICC profile when  "Save for web devices...", but I'm not confortable with this workaround because I'm not sure about what I'm doing exactly, and I am not sure if this images are gonna look good on any device (I only own an iPad 3).
Somebody know a best method to deal with this?
    Thanks!

Hi KT. Thanks for your response. I'm already using this formats. Anyway, the problem occurs within iBooks Author interface. I mean: I can see the color shift (or washed out...) at iBooks Author at my computer screen. Of course, when I test it on iPad it also looks bad.
It's incredibly strange because the JPGs I'm using looks fine everywhere else except iBooks Author.

  • Save for Web Image Is Offset

I have AI CS4 on Windows Vista and have created an artboard that is 220 px wide and 88 px high. I then added a rectangle of the same dimensions as a background to cover the entire artboard. When I export it to Save for Web and Devices, the resulting image show a white boarder on the left. If I shift my background 1 px to the left on the artboard so that it shows white space on the right and overlaps on the left, it looks fine on the Save for Web export. Is there some set up that I'm missing to get a WYSIWYG conversion?
    Thanks,
    Curt

If you are trying to save as a jpeg, gif or png then you are rasterizing the vector graphic, which is likely the case of the 'white' space.
To get around this, try creating bleed of 2 pixels all the way around the artboard and then use the crop tool to crop the image to 220x88.
An alternative to this would be to open the file saved for the web in Photoshop or Fireworks and fill in the white/blank space.

  • Save for Web problem

I am using 'fit artboard to selected items' feature and everything looks as it should be until I try to export them through Save for Web.
When I do that a one pxl feathered border appears on a file, like in example (border is on left and top of the image).
I can't seem to find what's wrong, so, pls, help!
I'm on MAC, using CS 5.1.

I am saving as .png 24 with transparency and not interlaced.
However, I tried other formats and I see the same problem in all of them.
When I look at the borders in Illustrator Workspace I don't see that feather, but I can clearly see it in preview for Save for Web.
And I also know that it's not the problem with my computer because all other colleagues (there's 8 of us) are having the same issue.
So, I made another example, using just the plain red square and, while in Artboard Tool, clicked on it and Workspace showed that it bounded to square perfectly, but it's not :/
Same transparent 1pxl column on the left and top of it.

  • QT v10.0 "save for web" creates file names with spaces?

I find it strange that the additional exported files from "save for web" (iPhone, etc) auto exports files with spaces in the file names. Not only that, but changing the file names breaks the javascript.
I work on a server that denies permission to files with spaces in the file names. I know it's a bit archaic - but it's also a long standing tennent of "good HTML" to creates files with a hyphen or underscore instead of a space.
Is this something that can be addressed in the next update?

If your using cs5 or cs6 you might try Image Processor Pro which seems to use underscores
and has a save for web option.

  • Please include a "Save for Photoshop" option

Yes, I meant that. Yes, I'm posting in the right category.
After asking for another feature, mirror layers, and many people started to defend Smart Objects as if they were the solution to everything, I realized that there's another feature mising.
There are many issues brought by the marketing department, like over-inflating a PSD file with ALL the smart objects rasterized data to prevent PSD having to process them all at opening, without which the file could take more seconds (minutes?) to open, but eats up your hard drive, making impossible to deliver a file other than by FTP (http / php servers have limits), making smart objects not-that-smart… (you have many copies of the same thing which makes those layers reproducible by re-applying the effects back at opening, and you think you are saving space…)
And… guess what? "Make the file compatible…" (or so) checkbox at saving time WON'T FIX IT.
    So, my feature request is:
Wel need a new checkbox like "DISCARD ANY OTHER COMPATIBILITY THAT WOULD BLOW MY FILE OFF RATIONAL LIMITS JUST FOR YOU TO SHOW OFF YOUR APP IS FAST". So the file would only include USABLE, NEEDED data, rather than MARKETING, SHOW OFF data.
It could be a new export option called SAVE FOR PHOTOSHOP.
Yes, "SAVE FOR PHOTOSHOP" in Photoshop.
    Innovative, isn't it?
    Thanks.

To be honest a file of 200mg or 300mg in not a monster
    You're right. Not one, but hundreds make a monster. Version-1, Version-2, Version-1a…
Again, There's no bigger laptop than my Unibody 17" i7… and Layouts is not the only thing I have in there. BUT I'm not a printer, and printers won't travel with their mega files.
May be you need a bigger suitcase, or you don't go mobile
I never had compaint before when I was a pre-press man, but now that web ate print, there should definitely be an option for discarding all that data. I don't like to be pushed to buy higher technology. I KNOW it can be done, but marketing says we have to buy online space, mobile me, to use PSD online… so seems the bigger the files the better.
I BET they'll ULTRA compress the files and they'll XCREW YOU on loading time once they own the server, the ISP, and all that extra bandwidth appear in THEIR bill instead of ours, hehe.
So you can work on any document at a much lower resolution than you need for its output.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I was the first one in yell "Let's work all our files at 75DPI with SO and let's make them bigger before going to press.

  • Hi. I'm using illustrator cs6 on pc. I've made a scientific figure for a paper and now I'm trying to export as a png or save for microsoft office. Despite my figure being in the middle of my artboard, it always comes out bottom left in the png file or jpg

Hi. I'm using illustrator cs6 on pc. I've made a scientific figure for a paper and now I'm trying to export as a png or save for microsoft office. Despite my figure being in the middle of my artboard, it always comes out bottom left in the png file or jpg. Must be making a school boy error! Please help!

In similar cases, my solution is to "select all" then "deselect" only the artwork I want to keep and "delete". If I'm curious I may "cut" then "paste" to see what shows up in the center of the screen. it is usually some stray point. or other element out direct sight.

  • Save For Web & Devices Won't Export Gif Format

    Hi:
I had previously exported a web page created on PS as .jpg slices. Now when I try to export - Save For Web & Devices/Gif - it still saves as .jpg slices. TIA for any advice.

Make sure to select all (command-a) in the SFW dialog to change the settings of linked slices.

  • Poor quality save for web exports

It doesn't matter whether i'm exporting from Ai or Ps or whether it's CS6 or CC. I have changed the raster settings in Ai and i've also tried all optimization options with all different export file types (jpg, png, gif) at all different quality settings. It doesn't matter if I start with an ai, eps, pdf, png... the export result is always poor quality.
I have tried exporting at 300ppi and that does fix the quality issue and bloats the file size, but this way (the export route) is so time consuming since you have to resize your artwork each time as well as the artboard so that it doesn't cut off pixels. Save for web never used to have these quality issues and it also never used to cut off pixels around the edges. These workarounds prove very time consuming and produce file sizes that are not ideal.
When i first noticed this issue I was using Mavericks with CS6 and since am using Yosemite and Creative Cloud.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Create any bitmap or vector graphic in Ai or Ps, It doesn't matter whether you convert text to outlines or not
    2. Save for web
    3. View image in any application or browser to see poor quality and pixel trimming. Others running the same version and system are not having this issue, but I have checked many forums and found many others that do have this same issue but can't seem to find a solution.
Results:stair stepping, degradation, pixel trimming, general poor image quality
Expected results: Previously the save for web feature allowed for a decent quality image

Not an Illustrator expert at all, but did you align your art work with the pixel grid?  If you didn't, there can be results as you describe them.  As I said, I am not an expert, but online searching for the subject may help.
