Export from Flash to After Effects or Illustrator?

So I was given a Flash puppet from someone that animates in Flash. I wanted to take that file with it's layers and use it in After Effects. How can I do this? The file is Flash CS5 but I'm using all CS6.

THANK YOU!!!!  It was at 30 FPS, I was spending hours importing a new PNG sequence 1 frame extra at a time trying to fix it!
Totally fixed the issue.

  • Trimming HD video files for export from Windows to After Effects on a MAC

    Hi,
I have some .MTS files created using 2 HD camcorders:
    1) Panasonic HDC-TM700 which shoots full HD @ 1920 x 1080 and
    2) JVC Everio GZ-HM550 which shoots the same HD resolution
I am working with PP CS5 on Windows 7
I need to trim some small pieces (5 -10 seconds) out of many of the .MTS files to send to someone using After Effects MAC and FC Pro
In trying to keep the highest HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, the number of choices to select when creating a new sequence and then when exporting from PP is confusing.
Note: I notice that 2 clips I have in my PP project bin at the same time have different frame rates which I believe that 1 each came from my different cameras:
    file 1) 29.97fps 48000hz compressed stereo
    file 2) 59.94fps 48000hz compressed 5.1
Can anyone guide me here on sequence and export settings & codecs to maintain the HD resolution and least loss of quality on export?
Will the 2 different frame rates prior to export cause any issues? I'm assuming PP will re-interpret for output.
    Thanks

    > I understand the files are not compressed.
You misunderstand. The files are compressed. But they're compressed without losing any information. Losslessly compressed movies are a lot smaller than uncompressed movies---but they're still bigger than movies compressed with a lossy codec that would be more suitable for final delivery and distribution.
    > How long are the movies your associate sends you and approx what do file sizes look like?
I tend to work on individual clips that are from several seconds to a few minutes long. They're usually a small number of GB each. Don't fret about large file sizes for intermediate files. Making movies small matters when you're streaming them for final delivery, not when you're handing over a hard disk or using an FTP server to exchange files for post-production work.

  • XDCam footage exported from FCP to After Effects and back to FCP stutters

I need help. Here is the situation:
XDCam footage imported into Final Cut with the Sony Import Software 25 mpbs. Final Cut sequence is set up to match all settings. The footage is placed into the sequence fine, I can edit with no problems everything works great. The problems start when I export from Final Cut to bring it into After Effects 7.0.
I drag the imported footage onto the comp icon to create a new comp with the footage settings. The footage is being interpreted as upper field first. I render out the footage using the HDV codec that matches my sequence in Final Cut. When I import the rendered movie into Final Cut it causes the whole system to bog way down. Not just dropped frames but a serious amount of bog down, I even get the spinning Beachball for a few seconds while its trying to play. It should be noted that when I place the rendered movie in the sequence it doesn't seem to need any rendering. Now, here's the weird part, when I play the rendered movie using just the quicktime app. It plays just fine. The problem only seems to be with Final Cut.
    any suggestions?

    Hi,
I was having the same problem. After studying the mov as rendered by AE it would seem that there's something odd about the framsize. It would seem that AE's HDV preset is incompatible with FCP for some reason. There's probably a perfectly reason tech explanation for this but I don't know it.
I was told by a friend to always render 'intermediate codec' which I intend to do in future.
As a short-term measure just run the files through Compressor, that did the trick for me.

  • Text won't import from flash to after effects

    Dear all,
I'm relatively new to Flash (and an absolute novice at AE). I've been working on a series of simple videos in Flash that have alternating text and images. The idea was to import these .swf into Premiere Pro. However, Premier Pro doesn't take .swf files and I have to go through AE. When I import my .swf into AE all the text disappears and I only have the images. Any idea how to work around this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

See this note from After Effects Help about what is imported from a SWF file:
"SWF files are imported with an alpha channel. Audio is not retained. Interactive content and scripted animation are not retained. Animation defined by keyframes in the main, top-level movie is retained."

  • Since upgrading to CS6, fxg exports from flash are missing elements, is there a fix?

With CS5.5 I could export vector art from Flash and open it in illustrator. Now with CS6  I cant do that without breaking everything apart if flash first. This can cause masks to be lost and is a lenghty and complicated process. If I don't break everthing apart not all the layers are imported on the fxg when opened in illustrator. Does anyone know of a solution for this?

Above is a screenshot of artwork in flash. Below is the result after exporting an fxg and opening in illustrator.
It does work if I go into the group and then export (or break everything apaprt so they are no longer in groups). Some files I work with have loads of grouped elements with layer masks making it very complex to break apart and export as fxg. Previous versions allowed export in one step, I could then unlock layers or show hidden layers in the illustrator file. The masks would be imported too.

  • Mac Projector Crashes When exported From Flash CS5.5

Something strange that i noticed, when i had exported a presentation for a Mac,
    on a 64 bit windows 7 using flash cs5.5.
the applicaton gets the paths of a few swfs from an XML file
and loads them one after the other.. there is a small bit of interactivity.
.. tested this projecter on various versions of MAC, it crashes often, crashes earlier if i switch applications.  what follows here is a part of a report that was generated on an  OS X 10.7.3,
works fine if the projector is exported from flash cs5.
i need it to work when exported from flash cs5.5.. any suggestions on what i need to change in my application so that it works when exported from flash cs5.5?

  • Adobe Flash/Photoshop/After Effects CS4 Installation - Internet Explorer Script Error

Greetings everyone. Another Adobe Installation disaster story.
I'm trying to install the aforementioned products (Flash, Photoshop, After Effects) on my computer, but I get about 20 "Internet Explorer Script Error"'s every time. [I don't even use Internet Explorer] I don't understand why the installation worked on a different computer I own but not this one. Both of them are running Windows XP Home.
I've already tried removing all Adobe Products, using msicuu2.exe, CS4CleanupScript from Adobe, etc...
This is the install log that was generated for Flash.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Flash or After Effect?

I am new to the CS3 collection. I'm confused on what's the difference between flash and After Effect?, and why do I need both? I want to create animation and image reels for my clients website, but don't know which software to use. Any help u give would be really helpful.
    Thanks

Yeah, this reminds me a little of visual effects in your better movies; to make them convincing, they usually mix several techniques and tools. Lord of the Rings used CG, puppets, matte paintings, costumes, forced perspective, etc.
Likewise, Adobe.com integrates After Effects-made movies into a Flash/HTML environment with Photoshop backgrounds, Illustrator vectors, etc.
For really lush movies with deep environments, photo-realistic environments, and special effects (as well as million other options), After Effects is what you want.
For interactive environments on the web with clean lines, and vector art, Flash is what you want.
However, to integrate your After Effects movies into an interactive, lush environment, you probably need both, as well as other software such as Photoshop, Soundtrack, or a 3D application to get what you want.
It's probably better for you to decide what you want to do (specifically) and then figure out what tools you need to do the job. You wouldn't go buy a power-saw and cordless drill to tune-up a bicycle. You would look at the job at hand and go buy tools like allen wrenches, spoke wrenches and air pumps.
You should download the demos of the software and see what you like. You may find you might be biting off more than you can chew (or not) and that you don't want anything to do with ActionScript coding or keyframe based animation. Who knows?
    Good luck!

  • Is it possible to implement files into an InDesign document, that  are exported from Flash?

I have worked with InDesign quite a lot, and now I'd like to make an eBook using the software. I don't know much about Adobe Flash, just starting to learn, and I'd like to know if there is a file format exported from Flash that can be used in an epub format document made with InDesign?
(I'm not sure if I gave the right definition of things but I hope you'll undersand.)
    Thanks in advance,
    Bibi

    Hi Bibi,
the quick answer is no. You can place swf in InDesign and that will be honored during a interactive PDF-Output, but not with EPUB. If you try to get some animations to EPUB, you must use HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript. This can be done in InDesign CC with the help of Adobe Edge Animate.
But note: There is only a minor support for this feature for different devices.

  • Flash or After Effects

Hello everyone. I am new to CS3. What's the difference
between Flash and After Effects? Sense I bought the Master
collection, I want to use everything in this CS3. And I confused on
    the two.
I want to create animation and still image reels for my
clients websites and don't know which one to use or start off with?
    Thanks

Well, it depends what you use Flash for. Certainly it's not
    for timeline
animation for many developers. I haven't used the timeline in
    a long time -
I'd tell you that Flash is mostly used for web site building,
    RIA's, data
viz, and the like. But there are plenty of people using it as
    an animation
tool... It just depends on your needs. AfterEffects has a
    timeline too...
you can do animation in it as well. But mostly it is for
    post-processing -
hence the name. You can build effects, and animations in AE
    and play them in
Flash as FLV files. In either case, it sounds like you need
    to do some
    reading.

  • Is there a way to buy a plan with just Premier, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and Audition?

Is there a way to buy a plan with just Premier, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and Audition? I saw all the other plans but I'm just a private cartoon animator and don't really need the other software. Plus I don't really do that much money out of this and paying for the complete Create Cloud seems like a waste of money. So basically what I'm looking for is a better monthly price where i can just pay for does 5 adobe software i so despretly need

DAIM  because that's a bit expensive for me. 60euros each month I thought maybe there's a way I can spend less and use this software. I live in a Malta, it's a small country of only four hundred thousand residents and I just use this to animate a few cartoons and I don't really make that much money out of them. I'd end up spending more on the software than I actually make.

  • Exporting to Web with After Effects vs Flash

I am creating an animated logo for a client who wishes to display it online. I am making the logo animation in After Effects, since I have no experience with Flash, and my client needs to know if there will be an increase in file size since it is coming from AE instead of Adobe Flash.
The logo animation is vector-based except for a few small embedded 2-3 second Quicktime clips. I intend to export the After Effects composition to .swf format, and add a preloader, and save the final as a Flash video. The whole animation will be approximately 5-7 seconds in length. I need the final to be a small enough file for web display, will this be a problem, coming originally from After Effects instead of Flash?
    Thank you for your help.

will this be a problem, coming originally from After Effects instead of Flash?
It will be. Your workflow is crooked. There is simply no point in combining vector elements with bitmaps - in that case everything will always be rasterized and you are back to the problem of the conventional SWF export embedding "fat" JPEG sequences. Either you consider XFL export (but then you can't use all effects and features, either, as you would still need to define blending in Flash; it also doesn't produce vectors, only FLVs, images and keyframe data), render to an FLV, foregoing retaining vecors or you really do full Flash authoring. A workable compromise might be to use Flash Catalyst, which is currently in public Beta free on Adobe Labs. It would allow you to import individual components (images, FLVs, SWFs), which you could export from AE based on which specific comp works best with a given output format, and then do the final animation inside FC. It's much more accessible and intuitive than Flash itself, so even without a lot of experience, you should be able to produce something usable at reasonably small file sizes.

  • Quicktime movie export from Flash CS3 is skipping frame.

When I try to export Quicktime movie from Flash CS3, the
resulting mov file is skipping frames. i.e.: The movie is showing
    frame number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7, 10, 11, 12, 12, 12, 15
    etc...
As you can see the frame number 7 is repeated 3 times and
frame 8 and 9 are nowhere to be found.
The last configuration I used is 960x540, Sorenson video 3
medium quality, 25 fps, keyframe every 25 frames. 6400 kbits/s.
I tried various configurations, with different codecs and even
with keyframe all frames and I always get simillar problems.
Anyone have an idea what is going on, and how to fix this?
    Thank you,
    Olivier.

The QT exporter in Flash is honestly my least favorite
feature - not the feature itself but how it
works (or how it doesn't work in some cases). For me it is
almost unusable unless you have a very
short timeline, small stage, lower frame rate - like AS
generated effects or something - otherwise,
for true frame accuracy to video output - it is not reliable
enough and not fast enough for any real
    world production environment.
So typically for me - I love SWF2Video (www.flashants.com) as
it takes any SWF and makes it into an
AVI that is frame accurate no matter what the frame rate is -
quite incredible - enough so that I
always felt it should have been bundled with Flash (as well
    as Wacom tablets).
Harmony is an incredible product - as is SOLO and TBS (Toon
Boom mStudio) - each of those programs
are dedicated animation programs designed for output to video
    - Flash has a lot of hats to fill and
it was never really designed for animation to video even
though many of us have found it suitable
for all intents and purposes as an animation program for full
    production.
But all in all - the quicktime exporter doesn't really
deliver how we would expect it too I am sorry
to say - I only hope it works as well as it does on the Mac
(Mac users could always choose to export
to Quicktime Video but not PC users).
For now if I am exporting to video I keep it all on the
timeline or nested in Graphic symbols or use
    the SWF2Video tool.
    hope this helps.
