Export /Import of Portal -Urgent -Attn Product Mgr Group

I m planning to move my current portal database to other box (Win2000-> HP)and keeping apache and portal tec stack on current box.
Which of following method is safe and tested.
1. Export whole data base (8.1.7.3) and import it as a full data base on target box.
2.Or export it user wise.All users ,specially portal%.
Please advice how to clone or migrate from deployement to test server.Different documentaion says different things.In document named "Import export in portal', they say portal30 can not be exported.While in Document "Migration of Portal Across Datbases" they suggested to export all schemas related to portal.In portal forum some users mentioned that they migrated from deployment to test/development using full database export ,saying that oracle suggests this, but there is no recovery method for it.
My second objective is to seprate apache from database.Keeping existing apache on NT box (current instance) and data(portal schemas) on HP box.
Is there any thing else to be done except modifying DAD on current apache.
Thanks
Sarvesh

You can do the following to export your portal objects alone (I am talking wrt 30982) . Do it in that order please.
1. Go to the WWU directory where you will find the scripts related to export/import.
2. First run the SSOEXP utility for exporting all the users and groups. (The result is a dump say sso.dmp)
2. Next, run the SECEXP utility for exporting all the previliges of all the users on different objects. (The result is sec.dmp)
3. Then run the APPEXP utility for exporting your applications, you could give the "-security" option here as well (The result is app.dmp)
4. Run the PAGEEXP utility for exporting your pages (This gives pages.dmp).
5. Lastly run the CONTEXP utility for exporting your content areas (This results in contarea.dmp)
These five dumps can be supplied to the corresponding import utilities for importing your stuff.
But, if you are planning to export/import the entire database, then please enquire with the RDBMS migration experts about this.
Hope this helps.

  • Export Import to Maintain Test and Production Environments

    We have developed an application using Locally built Database Providers in Oracle Portal 9.0.2.6 which is installed to 2 schemas, has 5 different providers, and over 100 Portal major components (Forms, Reports, and Calendars) and over 200 minor components (LOV's and Links). We have used export/import transport sets with some luck, but it is a struggle becuase the import procedures are not very robust. Many things (such as missing LOV's, corrupt components, preexisting versions, etc, etc.) can cause an import to fail. And the cleanup necessary to finally achieve a successful import can be very time-consuming.
    Having a robust import mechanism is very important to our strategy for keeping installed (our own and clients') portal instances up-to-date with our latest release. Some of the enhancements that would make it much easier to develop and maintain Portal applications include:
    Within the Portal:
    1. Ability to copy an entire provider within the same portal (rather than one component at a time).
    2. Ability to change the schema to which a Provider is associated.
    3. When copying a component from one provider to another, the dependent items (i.e. LOVs and Links) should be copied to new second provider as well. (i.e. rather rebuilding each LOV in each provider and then editing each form to point to the new LOVs)
    Transport Sets:
    4. Should allow for changing provider names and provider schema, and global component name changes, and resetting unqiue id's on import (to create copy rather than overwrite).
    5. Should allow the option to ignore errors and import all components which pass pre-check (rather than failing all components if all items do not pass pre-check).
    How are other Portal Developers dealing with installing and then rolling out new sets of Locally built Database Providers from Development environments to Production? Are there any whitepapers on the best practices for replicating/installing a portal application to a new portal instance and then keeping it updated?
    Oracle, are any of my wish-list items above on the future enhancement lists? Or have others figured out workarounds?
    Thanks,
    Trenton

    There are a couple of references which can be found on Portalstudio.oracle.com that are of some use:

    These are all useful documents for a successful first-time Export-Import. However, the limitations and lack of robustness I listed in my first post, make the process so time-consuming and error fraught as to not be a practical development strategy.

  • Any successfull Export-Import in portal 9.0.2?!?!?!?!

    Hi all.
    Has anybody been able to export/import ANYTHING in the new portal?????? I tried and tried in portal 9.0.2.2.22 on Win 200 and nothing happened. We got no errors but nothing was imported.
    Has this worked for anybody on any platform????????? Please give me some hope!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanx, Mere.

    We had similar problem. After a few consultations with support we decided to first export everything but the pages (templates, styles, ...). It worked ok (no problems or errors). Then we devided pages into two groups - contents and body (decision based on page design - had nothing to do with oracle). We exported one by one (not by bulk actions because we recived errors but every page by hand - it took as some time but at least we got clean export). Import - we first imported the first export (templates, styles,..) then the body and then the contents. With the first export we encountered no problems. But the other two get us the problems with page id`s and no data was imported. Support told us to instll patch no. 2472140. After this install we got "Import of Item failed." in the import log for both. But data was there and we reimpoerted the templates. We needed to publish some portlets and change the page ids (wich we would have in any case).

  • Portal export/import between 9.0.2 and 9.o.3

    I am aware that you can not export/import between portal installations on different versions e.g. 3.0.9 and 9.0.2 but is it possible to do export/import between 9.0.2 and 9.0.3?

    The FAQ only states:
    <<<<Snip>>>>
    Portal Export/Import utilities will only work between portal installations that are at the same revision level. For example, Portal Import/Export will copy content successfully between two 9.0.2.x instances of Portal, but not between a 9.0.2 portal instance and a 3.0.9 portal instance.
    That said, Portal Export/Import WILL work between two portal instances that are of different "minor" revision levels. For example, Portal Export/Import will work between a 9.0.2.2.14 portal instance to a 9.0.2.2.22 portal instance, and vice versa.

  • Export/import utility for portals: opeasst ; where to launch from?

    hi all
    does this script opeasst.csh have to be run from infra home or the midtier home? i think for exports of pages and portlets from 904, the CH 10 on export/import requires us to launch export from the mid-tier.
    however, if i set up the midtier as my home, and intend to use the opeasst.csh, i do not see this script sitting in the directory where it's been suggested to reside:
    ORACLE_HOME\portal\admin\plsql\wwu
    instead it is in the ORACLE-infra home:
    ORACLE_HOME\portal\admin\plsql\wwu
    please help. it is URGENT.
    I am using OracleAS 10g Portals 9.0.4 version.

    I've been doing some runs and had typical DB export's at about 12 GB per hour (compressed to ~7GB file). Typical DB I/0 bottle neck loosened by using different file system/disk to point export at than where the DB data files reside (CPU ~80% of single CPU)
    now the import is a bigger item.

  • Export/import portal favorites

    Hi, we have NW2004 Portal SP16.  Is it possible to export/import portal favorites between users?  The reason I asked is that we are planning on using 2 LDAP data sources in production and some users will be migrated in Active Directory from companyA.com to companyB.com.  We noticed in our development environment that the favorites are gone.
    Thanks in advance

    I asked OSS and they said :
    you should be able to transport these as an
    offline package using ICE. It should simply be a case of transporting
    over the userhome directory. However, please insure that the user is
    a system principal and has full control of all the userhome
    directories otherwise you may experience problems with permissions.
    Please see the link below regarding transporting Offline content in ICE

  • Backout plan for Portal Export/Import

    What is the best backout plan while doing the PORTAL export/import? Is cold backup of the Portal instance a good idea?

    Dear Tarique,
    I believe what you are looking is something like:-
    ldapsearch -h %OIDHOST% -p %OIDPORT% -D cn=orcladmin -w %IAS_PASSWORD% -b "cn=IAS Infrastructure Databases,cn=IAS,cn=Products,cn=OracleContext" -s sub "orclResourceName=portal" orclpasswordattribute
    ... substitute the %OIDHOST% , %OIDPORT% and %IAS_PASSWORD% for your values.
    This should easely return your Portal schema password.
    I hope it helps...
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Export and Import of Portal Users (UME database only)

    Hi
    What is the most efficient way to export all Portal user that are stored in Portal UME database so that it can be imported to another Portal installation and be used..
    Thanks in Advance
    Ananda

    Hi,
    SAP User Administration is the standard way to export and import users in the portal. Using the export functionality, all the user information will get exported, including the roles and groups assigned:
    [User]
    uid=userid
    last_name=Lastname
    first_name=Tobias
    language=en
    accessibility=0
    role=pcd:portal_content/com.sap.portal.xxx;
    group=Administrators;
    If you only want to export the user data without the roles and groups, you'll have to delete these lines.

    I upgraded to cs6 and imported all the images together, I made them 3 frames per and exported them. The problem is slightly improved but still there. I'm still getting flicker.

    The problem has to be with my settings. when I upgraded it deleted all my prefrences and settings. There was no dslr preset either so I had to redo it all from  scratch to the best of my ability. Here is a complete rundown of my settings:
    I shoot with a canon dslr 60D in 24fps and upload all my stuff in 1080p. Please advice.

  • Portal Export Import with DB on different OS

    Hi All,
    I have a quick question about exporting the OracleAS Portal Metadata Repository database. Our source DB is on a different OS to our target DB.
    We are going to apply the 10.1.2.3 patch and associated portal export/import patches to both nodes (from note 263995.1).
    Our understanding was that we would use the method described in Chapter 10 of the Portal 10.1.4 Admin Guide (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_18/portal.1014/b19305/cg_imex.htm).
    However, according to metalink note#276620.1, because our source and target OS are different, we should use the database export/import methodology that is described in Chapter 11 of the Application Server 10.1.2 Admin Guide (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_18/core.1012/b13995/prodtest.htm).
    Could anyone tell me which way is better, we would prefer to use the database export/import method, has anyone tried this and what are their experiences.
    Regards,
    Tim.

    Regards,
    Tim.As far as your referred Metalink note is concerned, it gives you three options to move your repository with if you are working with 10.1.4 Portal.
    It's a difference of can, should and must.
    - It only shows ability to use three options ( can );
    - on the whole, it does not give preferences for any method ( should );
    - nor does it put a requirement for any single option ( must ).
    ( the only requirement/prohibition is for the option 2 which is not supported ).
    we have used the first three methods given on the note (yes, we also tried 2; this note came later). 1 is what we use regularly for transports between environments; and 3 we use for environment staging (as given in chap 11 of pt. 3). both can be messy with a large repository (we do so for about ~400 GB) repository. but following that supportability guide (Metalink Note 333867.1), method 1 works too.
    hope that helps!
