Export is making my video smaller on all sides?

I can't really fullscreen videos when I convert them. I searched around for fullscreen but all anyone was talking about was making PP windows in fullscreen, sorry if this has been addressed.
I took a screenshot to make things easy

Changing the preset to MP4, MP2 H264 bluray, whatever, the preview doesnt change and I still get this. Opening up a converted video gives me a smaller video and fullscreening it never truly fullscreens and I don't know why. Import/export resolutions are the same???
I know I can crop the video from the top left, but why should I need to do that?
Thanks guys!

How do I get rid of black bars around my movie?

Good to hear that you've had some success with the import.
I tried 3 times to do it before I finally changed it to H.264, and it worked on the first try.  The quality of the compression was terrible with those settings compared to my standard settings, but I'm just glad it worked.
Rather than Share>Export using QuickTime and then choosing your own settings for H.264, you may get a better result if you simply use the Share>Export Movie option. Alternatively, use the Share>Media Browser option (as I mentioned in my earlier post). You will be presented with a range of sizes to choose from. Depending on your target, it's usually best to select the highest size available, such as Large, HD 720p or HD 1080p. However, for producing a DVD it's best to not go beyond the HD 720p size, as the DVD will be downscaled during encoding to Standard Definition in the appropriate size for either PAL or NTSC.
In my experience, both these options (Export Movie or Media Browser) produce a video file of excellent quality. The files will be in H.264 format and will have the file extension .mov or .m4v depending on the size of the export. I'm assuming that your camera records HD video in AVCHD format.
These files work well with iDVD (or other DVD authoring programs). The export process for the presets is optimised by Apple to produce high quality video files at a reasonable file size. So, selecting a preset may give you a much better result. Choosing your own H.264 settings when using the "Export using QuickTime" method could be why "the compression was terrible". You may have selected a data (bit) rate that was too low. There is always a trade-off between quality and file size when compressing video.
So, to summarise, try one of the Apple presets using either Share>Export Movie or Share>Media Browser.

• Exporting a slide with video content

I started a slide show in keynote. A few of my slides have video content. I am trying to export my slides so that I can edit them in iMovie. It's harder than I thought. When I export it, the video content does not play because it exports a picture of the slides. How do I export my slides with video content so that it still plays when I bring it to iMovie. I already tried making that slide a Quicktime movie with no luck. Maybe I missed something in that process. Thanks for any help you can provide.

You need to export from Keynote as Quicktime using either Fixed timing (in which case you specify enough time per slide for all the builds to complete) or using Recorded timing.
You can read more about the different Quicktime Export options in the Keynote help menu: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Keynote/5.0/en/kyntc6c24df4.html
Hope that helps.

• Correct Way to Export 4:3 Format Video?

I'm making a video in 4:3 format (480 x 360), since that seems to be the size of videos on YouTube, and I want to put the finished video on YouTube. I'm using video screen captures in .mov format as the cuts for the video. All the .mov video files are 4:3.
I want to look at the video a few times with different edits before putting it on YouTube, so at this point, I just want to export it to the desktop.
There are a lot of export settings available in iMovie's Share->Export Using Quicktime dialog box, but I haven't yet found the right ones to export this video.
For example, I tried setting the export size to 480 x 360. The exported movie was the right dimensions, but blurry.
Then I tried just doing an export using Share->Export Movie (Medium size), but the top and bottom of the frame were cut off.
What are the best export settings for exporting 4:3 video?
Thanks very much in advance to all for any info.

Good grief! I just imported an .mov file, and IM cropped the video on import to 1.76:1 !
(Moments later...)
Okay, I just added another 480 x 360 clip to the same IM project, and this time IM recognized the aspect ratio, and added sidebars in the viewer. Switching out of IM and back yields anomalous results: sometimes IM shows the video at 1.76:1, cropped, and other times, it shows it uncropped with sidebars.
Are other people able to make a standard 480 x 360 YouTube video using IM?

I am exporting a timelapse of 1900 Small Raw slide show images as video.  It can run for 4 days and not much seems to happen. I had done 1500 images in less than an hour before and they were larger files.  What can I do?

Your current settings should match the source material in your timeline. Though, it probably doens't matter what it is as long as your settings are not for a highly compressed format like h.264 or mpeg2.
iDVD should take any all "I" frame format and encode it. (All I frame formats include DV, DVCProHD, ProRes).

• Slideshow dissapeared after export, now slideshows don't work at all.

I made a slideshow with many pictures a very few video clips. (All video clips but one were created/edited in iMovie then exported).
I exported the slideshow and imported that export into iMovie to adjust music, etc.
Everything exported perfectly and imported to iMovie perfectly. However, once in iMovie I noticed that one of the video clips in the slideshow didn't export properly.. only the sound worked, but the scene remained blank. This video was the only video that came straight off my camera, trimmed with quicktime, then put into the slideshow instead of going through iMovie. So, I put it through iMovie like the other video clips then added it to the slideshow. I opened the slideshow, and the only thing inside was the video I JUST added. Everything else (all 300 pics and 4 vids) were gone from the slideshow. They were in the right order and everything was perfect!! NOW, I'm trying to start over and it wouldn't let me move a video clip into the slideshow, and NOW it won't even let me move pictures into the slideshow!!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PROGRAM!?? AND, is there any chance iphoto happened to have saved my slideshow somewhere where I can restore it? I read somewhere to hold the option/command key? while the program starts to restore, but I don't know what those optinos mean... will i lose stuff if i use those options?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
is there any chance iphoto happened to have saved my slideshow somewhere where I can restore it?
Are you referring to the slideshow you exported or the slideshow within iPhoto? The one in iPhoto is kept in the library's database. You can try rebuilding the library as follows: backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key and selecting the *+Choose Library+* button.
Are you trying to continue with the original slideshow in iPhoto? I'd trash it and start over with a fresh one. The old one could be damaged. Rebuilding the library might fix it but if it doesn't then it's best to start over with a new one.
Any reason you didn't create the slideshow in iMovie. By doing it in iPhoto and exporting to Quicktime and then importing into iMovie for more editing causes additional encoding of the slideshow and can degrade the image quality.
Are you up to date with all of the software and system? How much free space do you have on your boot drive. How big is your library, i.e. number of photos?

• FCE only exports 29 second of video

Newbie here! I am trying to export a video sequence that has no markers and FCE will only export 29 seconds of video. I am exporting Using Quicktime Conversion file format Window Media. Then only 29secons of video is on the file that is created. This happens on several different sequences. I have cleared all markers but that did not help. Is there a preference that I need to change? Have I changed something that I should not have?
Thanks for your help.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
It sounds like you're using the trial version of the QuickTime plugin which will only convert 30 seconds of media. You'll need to buy the full version; I think it's $50.

• How to make HD video smaller! HELP!

OK...so I bought an HD camera and the quality is SICK!Almost a bit too sick...After I am done editing and I export using quicktime conversion to .MOV the video is HUMONGOUS!
When I say humongous I do not necessarily mean the size of the file...I'm actually talking about the dimensions of the video.
SO, how do I make the video smaller from FCE?...I mean the actual video's original size smaller (not how to zoom out on quicktime, that is obvious) I mean how to have the video size smaller.
Thanks.
-John

There are way, way too many variables to answer that question. It's meaningless without knowing what your video is, action, dialog, animation, music, speech, one minute, one hour, and without knowing you're trying to do. People have written whole books on the subject of compression. You might try a google search for video compression. Look for what you're trying to compress for, where you're trying to get to.

Hi Stephen, thanx...
Yes, we are talking about FCP X...this is the thing:
I worked on a project a few days ago and went to share - export movie.
Today, i opened the FCP again, to make some changes, and when i enter to the project, it shows me as one big clip.....i dont see it says compound clip....and i tried anyways pressing break appart clips...but nothing....could it be that i made it compound before exporting it..? if so how can i recover the un-compound version >?
I tried to import the saved .mov file, but it opens the same....as one long clip...
Pls help...thanx.

• Best export option for music video?

Hello,
I'm trying to get a music video that my friends' band made in the suitable format (to get it transferred to betamax and handed over to local television stations). The video was actually made in Flash and exported to uncompressed quicktime video. The problem we encountered is that the guys who handle the transfer to betamax couldn't play the file on their windows pcs (not even in quicktime for windows).
So, my question to you guys is; which format should I export the uncompressed video to in quicktime, keeping in mind that I want maximum quality (preferably no loss at all) and compatibility on a windows machine.
Help greatly appreciated; we're on a deadline .
Thanks in advance,
Pieter-Jan Beelaerts

Open it in iTunes and export it in DV to a DV tape camera and give the tape to the station. Or buy Flip4mac , the $49 or $99 version and export it to Windows Media.
Or open in MPEG Streamclip and export to DV, and provide it on a DVD if it is short enough (DV is 13GB per recorded hour).
If they want a tape, then export to DV and then open that in iMovie, and export to tape.
Any TV station wil be OK with DV, they must get viewer submissions up the hoop.
I would worry about quality degradation as well.

• Audio formats suitable for making song videos on iPad's iMovie...

Unfortunately the answer to your question is ... No. you cant make the built in music App work the same way that is does on the iPhone. I have no clue why Apple decided to do it this way but they did.
I don't use any of them, but there are other Music apps available for the iPad. You may want to look into one of those. Here are a few of them. You can search for more.

• I have been looking for a solution for making my videos capable of playing on anything such as: DVD player, Mac, PC, etc.

I have been looking for a solution for making my videos capable of playing on anything such as: DVD player, Mac, PC, etc. I have not found a format that will play with all of these. Is there a format, software, or do you encode it? I am new to production. I can make a video and make it work for a certain thing just not all.

There is no such thing as universal format and that is that. You are looking for the magic pearl that doesn't exist and rather than waste your time on a futile search, it would be better to actually read up on the various formats and their limitations, including how playback devices may or may not support this and that.

• .rotation on Video() only works on videos smaller than 5mb. Bug, any workarounds?

UPDATE: Found some reliable reproduction on my end.
Shorter videos tend to rotate just fine, longer videos tend to not rotate but become parallelograms. All on one build. Is there perhaps some metadata tags I need to add to my videos?
UPDATE: Found more reliable repro.
.mp4 files smaller than 5mb have no problem rotating, .mp4 files over 5mb do not rotate, they only skew.
Using standard netstream/netconnection/video setup for streaming video, any mp4 files over 5mb will not rotate when using video.rotation
Videos larger than 5mb skew by the number of degrees you specify, but not rotate.
Videos smaller than 5mb rotate by the number of degrees, and do not skew
100% reproducable on my end: Win 7 x64, Flash Pro CS6 (12.0.2.529), testing on PC and several android devices of varying make/model.
Questions:
-Is this air for android specific?
-Is there a workaround?
-Does this happen on screen rotate too? (It happens when rotating the entire swf, when rotating the parent, and when rotating the parent's parent.)
-Does this happen with older versions of Air for Android, and/or actionscript?
OLD THREAD:
This has been very problematic for me.
When I try to use video.rotation = 90; in code, rather than rotating the video 90 degrees, it disappears. But this only happens sometimes when I publish. I can make zero changes, clear publish cache, and sometimes it is broken like this, sometimes it isn't and works perfectly fine. I can't figure out what is changing to make it compile differently. I've tried in all render modes (publishing to Android, so: Direct, CPU, GPU, Auto) with no changes in this specific behavior.
I've tried putting the video inside of a movieclip, and rotating the movieclip only, and it still occurs.
I've tried directly copy/pasting another successfully rotating item's code to video, same problem still occurs.
I've tried re-ordering it, and putting rotation before and after x/y/w/h changes, removing x/y/w/h changes, same problem.
Restarting my computer usually fixes the problem for 1-2 solid publishes before it starts happening again.
The code is located towards the bottom of this post.
I've tried changing the rotation to 45, and I figured out how the video disappears, but not why. video rotation goes from rotating the whole video, to only moving the right-most points, and creates a parallelogram.
(Height and Width are pre-established variables, with values partaining to the overall container size, which is not always 768*432 ratio)
video.x = Width;
video.y=0;
video.width = Height;
video.height = video.width/768*432;
video.rotation=90;
Please tell me I am just missing something incredibly simple here, and that this is not a bug.

i don't see a problem testing on flash pro cs6 win 7 pro 64bit using an flvplayback component and a 964 MB mp4.
