Export letters as separate files

I'm working on a touchscreen interface, which includes a keyboard, and rather than modify and export each letter individually everytime I want to change the font or the style, I'd like to have a script do it for me. Basically it would open the file, replace the text content by a letter/number picked from a pre-defined set (while keeping layer styles intact) and then save for web.
This could also be useful when you need dropcaps or you want to use images instead of letters or numbers on a website.
It seems like a pretty common task so I was wondering if there's any script out there that already does it. If not, how hard do you think it would be to do ? I'm a newb to photoshop scripting but I know photoshop well, as well as javascript, so it shouldn't be too hard right ?
Thanks for the help !

Thanks, I'll look into this. Actually I already succeeded in writing a script that does what I want, here it is:
var charArray=new Array(".","_","-",",","@","/","a","b","c","d","e","f","g","h","i","j","k","l","m","n","o" ,"p","q","r","s","t","u","v","w","x","y","z","1","2","3","4","5","6","7","8","9","0")
var namesArray=new Array("dot","underscore","dash","coma","at","slash","a","b","c","d","e","f","g","h","i"," j","k","l","m","n","o","p","q","r","s","t","u","v","w","x","y","z","1","2","3","4","5","6" ,"7","8","9","0")
// Open file key.psd
var fileRef = File("myFile.psd")
var docRef = app.open(fileRef)
// Get character layer
var charLayerRef=app.activeDocument.artLayers.getByName("character")
// Set the contents of the text layer.
var textItemRef = charLayerRef.textItem
for(i=0;i<=charArray.length-1;i++){
textItemRef.contents = charArray[i]
pngFile = new File( "/namesArray[i].png" )
app.activeDocument.saveAs(pngFile)
But I get an error 8080 with the saveAs function. In the end I just used the ScriptingListener plugin to record the code for "save as web" and this works fine, but I still wonder why the saveAs code (copied from the manual) doesn't work...

  • Exporting Issue: One large frame sized project, needs to be split and exported in 3 separate files

    Hello Awesome people, help me out here Please!
    I have a 4480(W) 1260 (H) frame sized project which needs to be exported in 3 separate files, due to the large screen size at the venue.
    how to split one project into 3 so that I can get 2 x 1920 (W) and 1 x 640 (W), and height for all three would be 1260 (H)??

    Dear Evans,
    You might need to check the print preferences settings on the system. This is available from Administration -> System Initialization -> Print Preferences.
    Check this out for the documents that get printed as images and get stored in the Bitmaps folder. Check under the 'general' tab whether the check box for printing documents as images is ticked. If yes, untick this. Then check the settings under the 'Per Document' tab - you will need to change the settings per each document.
    I hope this helps.

  • How do I export detached audio files as separate files, for Pro Tools processing?

    My project is a live band performance. I have every song as a separate Event with associated audio. I have detachd all the audio from all the video Events. I now want to Export the audio files to Pro Tools for editing, then Import the edited audio back into FCP X and snap the edited audio to the associated video Events.
    My problem is this: FCP X keeps exporting the audio as a single large WAV file, rather than as separate WAV files. In fact, the video events are separate, and so the audio associated with the video Events are separate.
    I first renamed the Role of every audio file as "Music", then did a Share --> Export Media of all "Music" audio Roles. After exporting, I found it was one large WAV file, rather than separate files of different sizes.
    As a 2nd try, I created Sub-Roles for each audio clip, and named each one with a distinct Sub-Role name. I then Exported all these Sub-Roles (yes, tedious). The result was that every exported WAV file was the same size, the same as the file size in my first try. The only audio that could be heard in each file was the audio in that particular song, but FCP X still created the very large file with silence in all the rest of the file. Since the file lengths don't match the original audio fil lengths, there will be a problem when I Import the edited files back into FCP X and want to Snap them into place.
    Question:
    How can I export the individual detached audio clips as separate files, the length of each file equaling the length of the original audio file in FCP X?
    Do I need to separate the detached audio into separate Layers visually in the Project Timeline, so they are not touching? Or does this matter?

    No.
    You need to explore Compound Clips. This workflow may or may not be of help.
    Select an Event with clips in it and press Option+G to make a (blank) compound clip.
    Select the Event Browser, create a new Event and call it 'Effects'.
    Drag the Compound Clip into this Event.
    Right-click the clip and select 'Open in Timeline'.
    Select the timeline and press Option+W. This will add a Gap Clip to the timeline.
    Select the gap clip and press Ctrl+D then type in the duration you want the clip to be.
    Now open a project and select and copy one of the clips with effects etc.
    Open the Compound Clip in the Timeline again, select the gap clip and press Option+Cmd+V to paste the effects into your Compound Clip.
    This clip is now saved in your Browser and will remain there for you to copy and then paste the effects into any clip in any project.
    It's a bit clunky, but it works - and once you learn about Compound Clips, you can work wonders with them. As an example, if you want to add more effects without overwriting the effects in the Compound Clip, simply make the Compound Clip into a Compound Clip (again) and add the effects. They will be added to the original effects.

  • How can I save multiple emails as separate files with 1 export?

    I need to save hundreds of emails as separate files.  If I select all of the emails, then export as PDF, it doesn't save with their Subject titles, just numbers.  If I try prints, save as pdf, it consolidates them all into 1 file.  If I try to save as txt files, it only saves the first message.  If I try dragging and dropping the emails into a folder, it won't let me (only one at a time).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I believe there is a third party app that saves email(s) as pdf's:

  • Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.

    Hello fellow editors!
    I have about 100+ video files that I want to cut into shorter clips, edit a bit and then export in a Final Cut friendly format (currently they are AVCHD mts files) to send it to my friend, who is putting the whole movie together.
    I dont want to use Final Cut for this ( I cannot, I have a windows machine) and I was hoping to work with premier CC and media encoder CC.
    There is a way of putting all clips in one sequence and then nesting each one, then you can send them to Encoder CC and it will render them as separate files - thats is just not very productive, nesting clips one by one and it takes forever for Encoder to import sequences.
    I was wondering if there is a better workflow? I heard that Final Cut has shortcuts to do this very easily, you just click on all those clips in sequence and "batch export" them, which puts them in some place as separate, already cut files.?
    Anything? I love premier, let my feelings be justified!)

    Kevin Monahan ...
    Lucid George is right ... select one trimmed clip, File->Export->Media, you can choose whether in-out or entire clip.
    Select MORE than one clip, you get a completely different export box ...
    These two selections were "exported" from that bin created by dragging the trimmed clips from the timeline to a new bin ... I don't know what else one is supposed to do. You can't even select multiples clips and batch sub-clipping, which would at least cut the steps down.

    Do not use MS Word for Mac, it does not support Arabic.  Instead use Mellel, TextEdit, Nisus Writer or OpenOffice.  Try the font Geeza Pro if others do not work.

  • "Export audio of selected range markers to separate files" icon is grayed out in Markers window. Tracks show start times but no end times, yet duration is calculated.

    I have one big wav file of segued tracks as a mixdown and inserted CD markers where I want marked tracks. "Export audio of selected range markers to separate files" icon is grayed out in Markers window. Tracks show start times but no end times, yet duration is calculated. Why can't I export these marked portions as separate files?

    the markers durations need to be configured, there is an easy way to do this using your existing markers.  click the start time of marker 2, this should change to edit mode to type in a new number, just copy the numbers cmd/ctrl+c. then click the end time of marker 1 and paste, cmd/ctrl+v.  now repeat for the rest of the markers, and on the last one enter a value for the end time or click and drag on the duration to manually extend it. once all the markers have a duration, the button should be active to export.

  • How do I use my trailer in my new iMovie ? They are separate files.

    In my previous version of iMovie running on my iMac I could easily create a trailer (a quick preview of the video) to run at the start of my new movie.  The trailer and the movie were all part of the same file.
    With my new Mac Pro running iMovie 10.0.3 I created a 1 minute trailer of a recent camping trip. I like te excitement the trailer creates. I also created a one hour video of the trip itself.
    These are two separate files in my Project library.  How do I get the trailer to run at the start of my hour long video?
    thank you

    Hello bruce.roberts99,
    You can export the trailer as a QuickTime file, then import it back into an event. This should allow you to add the trailer to the beginning of another project.

  • Export Table to flat file and upload to FTP server for external vendor

    I have done some extensive searches on the forums and I think I have an idea but really need some help. Basically have a table that needs to be exported to a flat file and uploaded to a FTP server so that our vendor can get the data Monday-Saturday and automated by sysdate. This data is used to produce daily letters that go out to customers.
    After doing some searching I came across the UTL_FILE package and reading more into this right now but I am not sure if it is what I should be using to create the file.
    I am using TOAD right now and can see how to do it manually however really need the file to create itself and send automatically at 6 am Monday - Saturday with the date at the end of the file name making it a unique file for each day.
    Thanks in advance for all of your help.

    As Justin and others have mentioned I wrote [XUTL_FTP|http://www.chrispoole.co.uk/apps/xutlftp.htm] so you wont find it in the Oracle documentation. It's pure PL/SQL and uses UTL_TCP and implements an integrated PL/SQL FTP client / API. One of it's many overloaded procedures FTP's the contents of a refcursor straight to a FTP server of your choice, meaning no intervening file is required. Since it is pure PL/SQL, it is trivial to schedule using DBMS_JOB/DBMS_SCHEDULER.
    Any questions just ask.

  • How do i export a single video file that also contains ac3 audio

    Hi Guys,
    Is it possible to export a single video file that also contains ac3 5.1 surround audio?
    I can create seperate audio and video files ok, but not a single file?
    Please help...
    Regards
    Andy

    You won't be able to do this with just FCPX by itself. You should be able to use Compressor to do this, or you can use Quicktime Pro to create a single .mov file from the separate video/audio files exported from FCPX.
    If you use Compressor, you can save the preset and make it available inside FCPX for future use.

  • "Rough" GIF export from ActionScript 3 files impossible?

    Hello,
    I just upgraded from Flash CS3 to Flash CS5, and I've been playing with the various new features. However, I've just encountered an odd problem that I can't seem to find a solution to.
    In the past, I've made animated GIFs in CS3 by exporting them with the "Smooth" box unchecked. This was really convenient for me because not only could I export crisp pixel bitmaps from Flash, but I could edit it in another program later. I was planning on making some GIF animations via this process with the aid of the bone tool in CS4 and 5.
    When I tried exporting frames of of a figure created with the bone tool in CS5, however, I got images that were fuzzy and often had distorted colors. After some time, I realized that this was because in CS3, I had exported the images from ActionScript 2 files, while the bone tool only works in ActionScript 3 files.
    Is it not possible to export "rough" GIFs from ActionScript 3 files, or is there a trick to doing that that I'm somehow missing?

    I'm sorry for not making it clear in my initial post, but it doesn't matter whether I create an image using the bone tool or not -- any GIF image exported from an AS3 file always has an antialiased appearance, even when the Smooth box is unchecked.
    To show you what I mean, here's a simple GIF image I exported from an AS2 file:
    Notice that all of the lines are simple and pixellated, with no antialiasing at all. This is the kind of GIF I want to export from an AS3 file.
    Now here's the exact same image I exported from an AS3 file, with the exact same export settings:
    As you can see, all of the lines look smoothed, even though I made sure the Smooth box was unchecked.
    Is there anything I can do to correct this problem?

  • Export to Excel – XLS file formatting

    Hi,
    I have created process that exports report to XLS file. I write XLS file using XML tags, supported by Excel, which allow me to format each cell (especially look and data type). Unfortunately I can’t force Excel to see cell as date-cell.
    I’m getting from database date in YYYY-MM-DD format and I want the same in Excel. I can export it as string value, but I want Excel to see it as date – not string.
    This code works fine:
    <ss:Cell><ss:Data ss:Type="String">'||x.begin_date||'</ss:Data></ss:Cell>
    but Excel see the cell as a string.
    I want something like that:
    <ss:Cell><ss:Data ss:Type="Date">'||x.prnm_short_name||'</ss:Data></ss:Cell>
    but this one doesn’t work, as well as “DateTime” type.
    Do you know how to solve this problem?

    Here is a sample of how you can create a procedure from an EXCEL file.
    1. create, format and save Excel file as an XML file
    2. edit file to add" htp.p(' " tags to begining of each line and "')';" tags to the end of the lines
    3. add standard header tags at start of file (see code below)
    4. add standard end tags at end of file (see code below)
    5. grant excute privileges as required
    6. test procedure: from browser (http://.../apex/owner.excel_rpt in this case; you do not need to use apex to do this
    - you might want to secure the procedure once you got it running by limiting it to run only from your app
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE excel_rpt (fname VARCHAR2 DEFAULT 'excel_rpt.xls')
