Export pix from iPhoto 4.0.3 to a digital picture frame (Tiger OS)

Can't succeed in downloading pix using a card reader. Desired pix moved to an album, then export selected. In dialog box, file export and album name are selected, jpg extension selected, pixel size changed and use extension is selected. The jpg file type and pixel size items conform to frame mfgr specs. The system proceeds to do something as the 100+ photos are supposedly transferred. After proper disconnection from the Mac, the Xd card is placed in the frame but no pix show up. In trying different sizes and extensions, the system prompts that these pictures already exist, as if the pictures are loaded into the card. I have tried creating a desktop file and dragging the album from iPhoto to the desktop with no success ( a subsequent move from the desktop to the card reader icon was planned). How can I be sure that the pix are on the card? How does the system know I want the pix to go on the card since it was never selected? Vince V

Vince V,
How does the system know I want the pix to go on the card since it was never selected?
Any time you export files from iPhoto (or save files in a Save or Save As dialog box in another application) you have to designate a location for the exported (or saved) files. If you did not designate the Xd card as your location, then the system does not know you want the exports saved there. Where did your exports go? Can you do a Finder Search for them?
Desired pix moved to an album, then export selected. In dialog box, file export and album name are selected, jpg extension selected, pixel size changed and use extension is selected.
Did you remember to select all of the pix in the album before selecting export? It has been a very long time since I've used version 4, but in iPhoto 6 when you click the Export button in the dialog box you described it opens to a standard Mac Save As dialog box. That second box is where you specify the location for the exported files. Are you getting that dialog?
I have tried creating a desktop file and dragging the album from iPhoto to the desktop with no success ( a subsequent move from the desktop to the card reader icon was planned).
I would recommend a 2-part move, just as you describe here. What did happen when you tried to drag the photos to the desktop folder?
Regards.

  • Size & Quality - Exporting Pix from iPhoto for Display and Printing?

I would like to export pictures from iPhoto for use in PowerPoint.
If the pictures are in 4x3 format, exporting them using the "Custom" size option and specifying 1024 as the maximum pixels results in nice 1024 x 768 photos that fill the screen on most projectors. This is good.
The exported photos are also at 72 pixels/inch. This is OK for onscreen display, but not so good for printing.
Oddly, the results are the SAME (1024 x 768, 72 pixels/inch) whether one specifies Low, Med, High or Max quality in the iPhoto export panel -- though the file sizes ARE different (higher quality = larger sizes). (I used Photoshop Elements to identify the sizes of the exported photos).
What gives? I would have thought higher quality files would have been associated with higher resolution (more pixels/inch) but this doesn't seem to be the case, and I don't understand why the file sizes are larger.
Can someone recommend a way to export a batch of photos from iPhoto at a specific size (1024 x 768) and perhaps 300 pixels/inch) that I might use in PowerPoint for both display and printing? And perhaps explain the bloated file sizes with no apparent quality increase?
    Many thanks!

DPI is meaningless for a digital photo until you display it - Dots Per Inch are just a meaningless number - the displayed DPI is the size of the photo in dots (pixels) divided by the inches of the display measures in inches - the DPI setting in the photo means nothing - see The Myth of DPI for a longer discussion on this.

What's odd? you said export with the largest dimension 1024 - that occurred just as you specified - what would be odd would be that the export were different form your specification

Higher quality means less compression (and therefore larger file size) - it does not mean a difference in compression - JPEGs have a compression from 1 to 12 available - iPhoto does 4 steps - small, medium, large and highest. I've not see the compression documented but I think of it as like 3, 6, 9 and 12

Forget the DPI - just be sure the pixel sizes are correct - for printing you should have at least 150 dpi and 300 dpi is better - so at 150 DPI printing your 1024x768 photo can be printed at 6.8" x 5.12 " -- at 300 dpi it would only 3.4" x 2.55"

  • How to upload pix from iPhoto back to camera?

I am running iPhoto 6.0.5 and have a Canon Powershot S500. I have occasionally transfered pix from the iPhoto library back onto a Compact Flash card that I then take out of the camera and slip it into a digital picture frame to run a slideshow on the frame. I have before me a long set of instructions that I obviously wrote the last time I did this about a year ago involving setting up a window in Canon's ImageBrowser. I then transferred the pix from Iphoto to ImageBrowser and I was able to upload them from there to the camera. Since that time, my G5 crashed and I lost some programs including ImageBrowser. Since I don't seem to have the original Canon CD and their website does not seem to have the program available, I was trying to get the pix directly from Iphoto to the CF, but I can't seem to get the Export to work. Any ideas??

If the icon mounts on the desktop then it should work.
However, there can be complications. So
    1. Try export to the desktop, the drag from there to the icon.
    2. If you cannot export at all try Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/toad.hall/.Pictures/Forum/BatChmod.png
(Credit to Old Toad for this one).
    3. If you can export, but the card won't accept it, it is likely that the card is formatted as Fat 12 or 16, which are Windows formats that don't like Long Filenames, non-ascii characters (essentially the 26 letters and 9 digits and nothing else).
hope the solution is in there for you somewhere.

Not using the correct structure. Camera's use a very exact structure and the only way the camera will see photos on the card is for them to be in that exact structure

How can I compare a (partial) export folder from iPhoto to an event in iPhoto to find images not exported?  Or better yet, how can I export selected events to a new iPhoto library or an existing iPhoto library with events, titles and keywords intact?

  • Exporting video from iPhoto to Desktop

    I take a video with my iPhone4.
I download it to iPhoto (9.3.2) on my MBP Retina (Mtn Lion).
I export it from iPhoto to my desktop.
When I play it on my desktop (QT 10.2), I get no picture and no sound.
    What's happening?

If you export as a Jpeg then you're telling it to export a movie as a still image. Jpeg is a format for photos, not video
iPhoto performs no compression on video at all. It has no relevance to the issue at hand.

  • Why would I want to change JPEG quality of photos when exporting them from iPhoto?

Why would I want to change JPEG quality of photos when exporting them from iPhoto?  Changing the quality of the print changes the size of the saved file and thus impacts the speed at which it is moved on the internet.  But other than size of the file, what is the advantage of changing the quality?

I have no idea why you would want to do anything
Some people want lower quality to reduce file size for different reasons
It is an option - if you do pot want to do that do not use that option

  • Exporting Fotos from IPhoto to Facebook

ok I am using Iphoto version 6. I am having problems with exporting files from IPhoto to Facebook. The editing touches on the fotos do not show up on my facebook album.
    2 attempts:
1st i tried to go to the Modified Folder, where my edited pictures are store through IPhoto, to upload. I did but once uploaded, the edits do not show.
2nd attempt, i downloaded facebook editor Iphoto patch. And everytime i try to upload the fotos, my iphoto closes. like the support side said, i have found the application and went to view contents to delete the patch then reinstalled it. And still I cannot enter the program to upload my iphotos to facebook.
Will someone please help me? Thanks

The sure way is to select the photos and export them to a desktop folder (file menu ==> export) and upload using the Facebook web upload from that folder
If you are having problems with the third party facebook iPhoto uploaded you should contact them for support

  • Since installing OS X 10.7.5 and iPhoto 9.4, I can no longer export photos from iPhoto.  I get a message that iPhoto quit while using the HPPhotoExport plugin.

Since installing OS X 10.7.5 and iPhoto 9.4, I can no longer export photos from iPhoto.  I get a message that "iPhoto quit unexpectedly while using the HPPhotoExport plugin."

    Trash the HPPHoto Export Plugin
    /Library/Application Support/iPhoto/*/HPPhotoExport
    Remember you have two Libraries:
    HD/Library and
    HD/Users/Your Name/ Library
On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library
    It may be in either.

  • My Photoshop Elements moved my pix from iPhoto but the picture names have been lost???

I installed  a copy of Photoshop Elements 12 yesterday.  I had been using iPhoto and had literally hundreds of pictures, each with an aphpa-numeric names.  I imported the photos from IPhoto into Elements 12, but there are no longer identifying names on any picture.   Where are the names?  There is a column of numeric file names in [Organizer] along  the left sides - which mean nothing to me.  I have tried every button I could find and searched the Photoshop Elements for Dummies for a possible solution.  I asked two friends familiar with full blown Photoshop and they are perplexed.  So am I.  Has anybody any useful suggestions?  Thank you

If you used the "from iPhoto" command, you made duplicates of your iphoto library photos. Just delete them and then decide how you want to proceed. "From iPhoto" is to be used if you decide you want to use the elements organizer exclusively and not iphoto anymore, but you don't have to do that. You can make a small test catalog with just some photos from iphoto, or you can set up PSE as your external editor from iphoto, or you can export photos from iphoto to the desktop, edit them in PSE and then reimport them back to iphoto as new images.
Which would you like to try?

  • Exporting photographs from iPhoto 6 without thumbnails

I have a Blaupunkt Lucca Navigator which can read secure digital cards with tiff or jpeg photographs. If you export photographs from iphoto 6 to a secure digital card you export each photo twice: one normal photo readable by the Lucca navigator and an invisible thumbnail with the same name beginning with an "_" which is read as an "invalid file" by the Lucca. How to cancel the invisible thumbnails from the secure digital card? possibly without resorting to the too difficult (at least for me) terminal.

The Mac OS uses "resource forks" to store things like icon previews.
When you copy an image to the drive the resource fork is stripped out into a separate file (your _file).
Easiest would be to just ignore them as they are very tiny in file size.
You could use special software that can strip the resource fork from the file before moving it to the other drive. Many image editing apps (GraphicConverter, Image Ready etc.) can also strip the resource fork.

IS this your Hard Disk is full?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of HD space to function normally. It uses this space for things like Virtual Memory and temporary files and other OS operations.

How did you do this? Did you empty the trash?
