Exporting a Captivate Movie into Flash 8
I am trying to export my Captivate movie using Flash Pro 8,
but I keep getting the "message" I can only export if I had Flash
MX 2004 installed. Is there a way around this????
Hi mindtube and welcome to our community
I am inferring from your question that you may think Adobe
employees are monitoring this forum. While we might see one or two
pop in here and there, by and large this is a total "user-to-user"
community. I'm a Captivate user same as you. So you might want to
post your question to support using the link at the bottom of this
page. Either that, or via the WishForm linked below:

Export from Captivate 3 to Flash CS3
I followed directions located in Adobe Captivate 3's help
menu about exporting to Flash CS3. I have tried both exporting from
Captivate and Importing from Flash to move my captivate project
into flash. About 5 times, an error saying "Unknown error" had
occurred popped up. I closed Flash and Captivate a couple times and
then it worked. Several new errors popped up during the
"successful" import---worse yet, the captivate project imported
terribly! Pieces of the demonstration were all over the stage.
Long story short, something is wrong. Is this a Vista thing?
Does anyone know about any of this?>I followed directions located in Adobe Captivate 3's help

Doesn't seem to be specific to Vista.
I've had similar issues trying to export to Flash. But
sometimes it seems to
work beautifully (although always with an error message about
"unable to
find Flash.exe" or similar), aside from in issue with the
backgrounds all
importing to Flash at the wrong size. This is easily worked
around, and has
been discussed here a number of times.
My first suggestion to you is to try rebooting your machine
before trying to
export again.

How do I import Captivate 4 into Flash CS5?
I am not a Flash expert obviously. I am trying to import my captivates into Flash and get an error message that the file was not imported because it could not be read. Can anyone help?
Hello,
Normally you can export the Captivate file to Flash from the File menu, but I'm not sure it will work between 2 different versions: 4 for Captivate and CS5 for Flash?

Does anyone have any knowledge of importing movies into
flash?
I have a movie streaming in my flash file but when some
people open the exe they only see black when the movie should be
showing. And some others can see the movie. Any thoughts?you can import them as an image sequence, then create a movie
clip out of it. File-->import-->import to stage.. Then select
all the images, and it something should pop up asking if you are
trying to create an image sequence, select yes. -

Can we import a Director movie into Flash ?
I'm exploring a possibility of importing a Director movie into Flash or if it is possible to import a published Director movie into Flash.
Anticipating your reply....
Thanks,
-MithunAs I may have mentioned in the other thread where you asked this, No. You can not. You can import a flash swf into Director but you can not import anything from Director into Flash.

Need help converting quicktime movies into Flash files
I need to convert a QT, PhotoJPEG compressed, movie file into a .flv format. I have AE 6.5 Standard and it keeps quitting on exporting a SWV file which would could probably get me by with my client. But, again, it errors out saying something like a JPG is busy, or a file is busy.
I have FlipforMac,a purchased version. But I'm not sure if converting it into a .wmv and then a Flash file is the best route or is even possible.
Any suggestions or ideas of software that I could purchase??
~reickoi don't think you have read up on the use of flash video
(FLV). there's nothing you need that you do
not already have (except maybe quicktime pro or some other
video editing program). the FLV exporter
comes FREE with flash 8. You should be able to open your
quicktime movie in QT PRO and export to FLV
format - then use any of the flash playback components for
FLV files - best bet is to read the help
docs on this subject and go to the devnet section of
adobe.com where there are several in-depth
articles about implementing flash video into your site.

Importing Director movies into Flash
My short Q, which I suspect is a FAQ though it doesn't appear
on the Director or Flash FAQs on the Macromedia (sorry, Adobe ;-))
site, is: how can you import Director movies (source .dir, or
published .dcr) into a Flash movie?
I had thought this would be simple, that Flash would have an
import filter for Shockwave movies, as after all both products come
from the same stable and you can import .swf movies into Director,
but not so, at least in my copy of Flash 8. Neither can Director
export as a .swf - the only export format that might just work is
.avi but I'm damned if I want to create a big video file just to
reuse a snippet from a Director movie. I did a quick Google search
for DCR->SWF converters but couldn't see anything obvious to
use.
The reason I'm bothered about this is that we've produced a
lot of e-learning material in Director (a good third of our
learning objects at
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/nursing/sonet/rlos/rlolist.html
use Shockwave movies) and although we've now moved on to Flash,
occasionally we want to be able to reuse snippets from Director
movies in Flash movies. It would be disappointing, to put it
mildly, were we not able to move content between software
applications produced by the same company...
TIA for any answers/suggestions.
Cheers
Fred
School of Nursing, University of NottinghamI feel your pain an don't know what's going to happen with
Director now that Adobe is involved.
You mentioned that you could export as avi, could you copy
the scenes in which you want to use into a new director file,
export that as an avi and conver t that to an flv?
Just a thought. -
Unable to export from Captivate 4 to Flash CS4
Hello everyone!
I am attempting to export a captivate project over to flash CS4. However when it goes from captivate over to flash the result is basically a slide show. It does not show any of the animations that are present in Captivate. I also keep recieving an error message.
I have searched for how to solve this problem for quite a while now and so far have come up with nothing.
This is the error message that flash gives me:
The following elements in your project have not been converted. They are not supported by this importer.
508 Compliance
A swf animation slide has been imported. The following files must be made available at publish time:
Project01_slide_22_0.swf
DefaultPreloader.swf
Please make sure you publish the project to “C:\Documents and Settings\jmillard\Desktop.” Saving the project to this directory will ensure that test project will work with the swf animation slides.
Unfortunately I am on a tight schedule to get this project done and the Captivate 4 and Flash CS4 I am using are both 30 day trials, so I am in quite a hurry.
If you could please help me I'd greately appreciate it!When you click on <Send Book to Blurb> a dialog should come up that asks for your ID and password for your Blurb account. I don't know if Blurb ships to Norway - you probably can find out at the Blurb website. But I don't think that this is the problem here since you also cannot export a PDF or JPGs.
I don't know of any specifics why this is not possible for you but it's worth trying to replace the Preference File.
This file can go "funny" and is then responsible for all kinds of strange behavior of Lr. The remedy is replacing the Preference File.
BTW: Re-installing Lr or updating / upgrading Lr does not replace the Preference File since it is designed to "survive" upgrades.
See here for where to find the Preference file for your OS: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroo m-4.html

Other problems with loading Captivate files into Flash AS3 project
I have a Captivate file done with Captivate 3, published to
Flash player 9 that is being loaded into Flash AS3. The captivate
is a simple recording of some mouse clicks in a browser. I am
displaying the playbar along the bottom, and its buttons all work
fine except for the progress bar, where you can drag the knob and
scrub back & forth in your presentation.
This progress bar is not working as it should. I see the
mouse cursor change to a hand, but when I click I cannot drag the
knob to control the progress bar. The other buttons in the playbar
do work (replay, pause, play, back, forward).
This is a unique problem in that it is only happening when
viewed in IE (7) when loaded into my Flash AS3 project. When viewed
in Firefox in my project, or as a standalone SWF, or as a SWF
simply embedded onto a plain HTML page, it works just fine.
Does anybody have any insight?
Another thing I notice with loading Captivate files with AS3
is the the amount of output messages it displays. Rather annoying
(unless this is a "feature" I've yet to be aware of - heh)Hi,

Can I import Director movies into Flash?
Hi,
Can Flash handle Director movies? I am making a presentation
of my artworks in Flash environment; I have both Flash and Director
movies. I know that I can import all my swf movies into Director
MX2004 to create a standalone projector and play both swf an ddir
movies. Does it work for the reverse?
Thanks
UtiNo, you can't import or display Director movies in Flash in
any way. Best
you can do is launch the Director executable from the Flash
movie, though
how you do this depends on which version of Flash you are
using.

Embed flash movie into flash site
I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere i searched around a while and couldn't find a solution.
Basically i have these buttons that I want to link to a movie that would come up in a popup window that has the controller options- to stop play, fastforward, etc. I made one already using flash CS4 and exported it to a .swf file. how do i link the button to the .swf file to open a pop up window- where i can control the size of the pop up window? also- when i upload the .swf file do i need to upload the encoded .f4v video to my server too? I'm open to a completely different way of doing this as well!! any help is appreciatedHi thanks for the reply. i had looked through this link before. the problem is I am not trying to a website to open in the popup window. I want to open a .swf file in a popup window....any other suggestions?
also- i imported a .f4v movie to flash cs4- chose one of their skins and exported is as my .swf file. will this work?
thanks a million for any help im rather daft at this!! -
Can you string more than one captivate move into one movie
I want to know if I have 3 captivate movies, can I make one new movie that attaches each of the other moives into it (like having a parent movie with child movies)?
thanks
DebHello,
I do not CP3 installed anymore, so hope my answer will work. There is no real 'parent-child' functionality built in CP, but you can create the 'parent' movie, put buttons or click boxes in it that link to the other 'child' movies.

Trouble incorporating Captivate movies into RoboHelp HTML projects
This is for RH 7 HTML.
I have been trying for quite a while now to add some Captivate tutorial-type videos to my help projects. I have recently been able to do this, however, the video additons greatly increased the size of my help file (it went from probably 7 or 8 MB up to 29 MB).
Here's how I added the movies.
Created a new topic just for the multimedia movie
Inserted the video (which was saved as an .SWF - Flash - file, since this is what the help file instructs you to do) and added it to the new topic
Created a link to this new topic in the topic from which I wanted to launch the video and chose to have the video open in a new window
Saved everything and tested it out to make sure the video would run when called
The video runs OK, though it is a little on the large side and is still a bit blurry/fuzzy. I've also had to provide special instructions to any users who wish to view the videos (maximize the RH display window, make sure the resolution on the monitor is set to at least 1024 x 768, choose to allow blocked content if prompted, etc) So, the main questions I have are,
What's the best way to add these videos to a help file without having the file size go through the roof and so they'll still display properly (clear and legible)?
Is there a smaller, more compressed format that can be used that will still allow for a clear display?
Should I embed the videos in the actual help file or place them somewhere else and link to them externally?
I would greatly appreciate any insight, advice, and expertise in this area, since my manager is a huge proponent of having these videos incorporated into the help files.
Thanks very much in advance for any guidance you can provide.
Sincerely,
DaveHi Dave
Hopefully Willam won't mind my chiming in here.
When you publish a project from Captivate as SWF, you also have an option to allow Captivate to create an HTML page for you. In fact, the option is typically enabled by default and you have to specifically disable it. At that point Captivate warns you that the movie may not display correctly if you do this.
So if you want the HTML page all set up, you just leave that option selected in Captivate. Then in RoboHelp, you import both the Captivate created HTML page as well as any files such as SWF or FLV you need.
Hopefully this helps... Rick

Link to external avi/mov into flash?
I would like to know if I can link to an AVI or MOV file from flash. In other words, I want to know if I can put into my AS3 code a link which refers to an AVI or MOV file sitting out on my harddrive or server. What I would like to do is end up having it play in the swf with the original content. Kind of like hitting a button and making it go to a movie but having the movie play where the button was on the screen. Can I do something like src="" and fill in the link to the netstream or something to an external avi? or does it have to be in F4v or FLV?
None of the file formats that you mentioned will just play by themselves, they require a media player. So if the file type is .flv or f4v for example, they require a .swf media player to display them.
That's the good part!
So you set up your media player (inside your existing .swf) as a FLVPlayback component or as a NetStream player and use the absolute address of the .flv file as the source to load... for example:
ns.play(http://www.yoursite.com/video_files/your_video.flv);
of course the exact path will depend on if you are just wanting playback locally or playback from files over the Internet.
Put the player in whaterver frame you want and just use a button to jump to the frame with your video player in it. Also be sure to provide controls so the viewer can navigate away from the video and back to the rest of the site when they want.
You will not be able to playback files on your local machine from over the Internet without a more complex method of allowing you to select files from your local machine by "Browse"ing for them.
Best wishes,
Adninjastrator
