Exporting B/W jpg Problem

I have a wierd problem with InDesign CS4.  I have a blank document and I put a black frame on the page and then export the page as a jpg file.  When I open the jpg with Photoshop it opens in RPG mode, with the black frame having K = 91.
1.  Why isn't this jpg being exported in grayscale mode?
2.  Why isn't the jpg being exported with the black area K = 100?
How can I make this work properly???

It's not a bug, it's a feature. The Display setting doesn't matter (after all, it's just *your* display), but the Output one does. That way, if you have a color-on-black object and 'normal' black objects, you can see the difference: the color-on-black is darker than black. Just like when it's printed. The only way ID can simulate a color "darker than black" is by making the regular black lighter.
Anyway, it seems you have found a solution.
[Post-Ed] Peter's right -- please read the first paragraph the other way around (he's also right on PS having more to-the-point options).

  • I have a sudden export to plug-in problem as well as a Photo-Edit-in-Photoshop Error

    I just changed Macs and migrated all of my old data to the new iMac (running OS X 10.9.2). Applications and files. I keep all my photo files on external Iomega drives, however. I plugged those back in and Lightroom 5.2 recognizes them. I can work with them, edit, etc within Lightroom. No problems.
    But I can't seem to export them to some of the plug-ins now or Photo-Edit in-Photoshop. For example, I tried to export out via (File-Plug-in Extras-Perfect Effects 8) and get this message: "AgNegative:renderToFile: <AgErrorID>dng_error_write_file</AgErrorID>"
    Another example: Trying to edit the photo via (Photo-Edit in-Adobe Photoshop Elements) gives me this message: "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at /Volumes/Photos-Videos /Pictures/2000/2000 Dean Scan 6.jpeg for editing. It will not be opened."
    I've tried exporting Raw and jpgs and tiffs and get the same errors. It will, oddly enough, allow me to export to Photomatix Pro.
    Any ideas? I'm stumped.
    Thanks!

    That would be great as tested further with a few files as not only have external drive backup I also use Backblaze remote service and just requested a few test files to be returned for uploading, which both worked fine.
    It's seems to be the hard drive it's not recognising PS and LR CC
    Will keep in touch if have any further thoughts

  • Export RAW to JPG question

    Hello,
    Here is once again a problem that I guess has to do with color management, and I'm having a hard time figuring out my mistake.
    I'm editing my RAW files in Lightroom 5 and then export them to JPG (my settings are JPEG 100% / sRGB / no sharpening or any other editing option).
    Then, to compare the RAWs and the JPGs, I import those JPGs back into Lightroom to make sure I'm seeing them with the same color profile (as I guess the basic "Preview" application I'm using on my MacBook is not color managed).
    My problem is that the JPGs are much brighter than the RAW files (see screenshots).
    I didn't calibrate my MacBook Pro's monitor (I'm just using Mac OS' standard color-LCD preset), and I'm not expecting other users to see my pics the way I see them on my screen, I'm ok with that, but I thought that on my own computer I would not see any differences between my RAW files and the JPGs I exported from those RAW files.
    I found some similar threads on that topic, but usually the problem was that the users were checking the JPGs in a tool that was not color managed, and so it would not match what they saw in Lightroom, but since I do check my exported JPGs in Lightroom, I assumed they would be represented within the same color space, with no noticeable differences...
    I'd appreciate if someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong!
    Thank you!

    To tell you the truth, a client asking for a 3MB JPG is a very meaningless thing to do.
    Any time you are changing the number of pixels on a side, you are changing the image quality. Any time you are forcing the photo to be a certain size in MB other than the maximum, you are accepting a certain reduction in image quality. Which is worse? It all depends on the original, and how much change you are asking for.
    So, that's my answer ... IT ALL DEPENDS.

  • Adobe Illustrator Export to JPEG (*.JPG) vs ICC Color Profiles vs Behance

    Hi,
    I work with Adobe Illustrator CC 2014. When I export my projects into *.JPG format (using both: 'Adobe Illustrator > File > Export' and 'Adobe Illustrator > File > Save for Web') I use ‘Embed ICC’ profile option. Every common image viewer I use (including web browsers and Adobe Bridge) respects those color settings and displays exactly what has been embedded. But when posting on Behance, my color settings are converted into something else! The only solution is to place my Adobe Illustrator file into a new Adobe Photoshop document , then export it into .JPG (with embedded color settings) and then post it to Behance. With this workaround my colors look pretty correct.
    Did someone experience the same and  could explain why Behance doesn’t respect the Adobe Illustrator export with embedded ICC profile settings?
    one thing more – even if my *.JPG produced with Adobe Photoshop (the correct one)  is displayed correctly, the cover photo (taken from the original) is still converted into different (Behance’s default??) color space. I believe this shouldn’t work this way. Is there any workaround to this? Is there any way my covers (miniatures) display the 'true' colors?
    Please advise

    ok. I give up. It seems that Adobe Illustrator can export only to the JPEG File Interchange Format (JFIF) and Behence doesn’t fully support this format (for example it cannot read its icc color data correctly):
    (JPEG) Formally, the EXIF and JFIF standards are incompatible. This is because both specify that their particular application segment (APP0 for JFIF, APP1 for Exif) must be the first in the image file. In practice, many programs and digital cameras produce files with both application segments included. This will not affect the image decoding for most decoders, but poorly designed JFIF or Exif parsers may not recognize the file properly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG_File_Interchange_Format#Exif_comparison)
    I’ve analyzed my files using JPEGsnoop 1.6.1 (really cool app by Calvin Hass, http://www.impulseadventure.com/photo/) and here is what I’ve found:
    A) *.jpg produced with Adobe Illustrator > File > Export > JPEG > ICC profile embedded:
    *** Marker: SOI (xFFD8) ***
    OFFSET: 0x00000000
    *** Marker: APP0 (xFFE0) ***
    OFFSET: 0x00000002
    length     = 16
    identifier = [JFIF]
    version    = [1.2]
    density    = 72 x 72 DPI (dots per inch)
    thumbnail  = 0 x 0
    B) *.jpg produced with Adobe Illustrator > File > Save For Web > JPEG > ICC profile embedded:
    *** Marker: SOI (xFFD8) ***
    OFFSET: 0x00000000
    *** Marker: APP0 (xFFE0) ***

    length     = 16
    identifier = [JFIF]
    version    = [1.2]
    density    = 100 x 100 (aspect ratio)
    thumbnail  = 0 x 0
    C) *.jpg produced with Adobe Photoshop > File > Save As > JPEG > ICC Profile embedded
    *** Marker: SOI (xFFD8) ***

    *** Marker: APP1 (xFFE1) ***

    Identifier TIFF = 0x[4D4D002A 00000008]
    Endian          = Motorola (big)
    TAG Mark x002A  = 0x002A
    EXIF IFD0 @ Absolute 0x00000014

    [DateTime ] = "2014:08:02 17:21:15"
    [ExifOffset ] = @ 0x00A8
    Offset to Next IFD = 0x000000D4
    EXIF IFD1 @ Absolute 0x000000E0
    Dir Length = 0x0006
    [Compression ] = JPEG

    [YResolution ] = 72/1
    [ResolutionUnit ] = Inch
    [JpegIFOffset ] = @ +0x0132 = @ 0x013E
    [JpegIFByteCount ] = 1006
    Offset to Next IFD = 0x00000000
    EXIF SubIFD @ Absolute 0x000000B4
    Dir Length = 0x0003
    [ColorSpace ] = sRGB
    [ExifImageWidth ] = 200
    [ExifImageHeight ] = 200
    So unfortunately the only option to produce the EXIF JPEG from an Adobe Illustrator project is to: Export *.ai file to JPEG (under Adobe Illustrator) > go to Photoshop > Create new project > Paste the *.jpg > and Sava As JPEG with icc embedded.

  • Why "Export Error Codec Initialization Problem!" when I export using Adobe Media Encorder for FLV?

    I get "Export Error - Codec Initialization Problem!" when I try to export a project using Adobe Media Encoder as a Macromeida Flash Video.  Premiere Pro 2.0 goes through the rendering process but no file is created; just the Export Error message.  What does this mean, and what do I need to do to export a project as a FLV file?
    Thanks.

    Sounds weird...  You could try the standard fix for general unexplained behaviour in a document; export it to idml, open that, save as an Indesign file and try exporting again.  If that doesn't work try a few different presets, like smallest file size.  If that doesn't work try opening your image in Photoshop, resaving as a psd, placing that (delete your old one) and see if that helps.  Obviously do this on a copy....

  • Export as resized JPG

    Hi Guys,
    I am trying to find a way to export a page as a resized jpg (150px width, 219px height) All the contents of the page also have to be resized. So a perfect thumbnail is produced.
    This will be happening on the fly as the page is saved so the script cannot interfere with performance to much.
    I have spent hours on this now can anyone please help me?

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks heaps for your input. The script needs to be in VBScript as there is also a chance it will be VB.net.
    The script I have at the moment resizes each page item using a loop then resizes the page and exports as a jpg. This is no good to me because the jpg needs to be output when the page is saved so it also involves resizing page items back to original so the user can continue to work.
    I don't really care to much about the quality of the exported jpg(or gif I suppose) as long as all page items are viewable.
    The size just needs to be close
    I like the sound of the DPI theory whoever I don't understand the maths to calculate the correct output

  • Export Objects to JPGs by ObjectStyle

    Hi all,
    i'm looking for advice and help in scripting the follwing:
    I have an InDesign document with multiple pages and certain elements/groups that i'd like to export to JPGs. Every element or group i'd like to export, has a certain object style applied for identification purposes.
    Now i know that it is possible to export selections to JPGs like described in this thread. As i would need to select the items manually in the linked scenario, it isn't an automated process. Basically i need the same thing as the export selection to JPG script wihtout selecting the elements but identifying them by a certain object style instead.
    Every help attempt is highly appreciated.
    Regards, Martin

    ollah,
    var myBestObjectStyle = 'myBestObjectStyle';
    var currDocPageItems = app.activeDocument.pageItems.everyItem().getElements();
    l = currDocPageItems.length;
    while(l--){
        curPageItem = currDocPageItems[l];
        if(curPageItem.appliedObjectStyle.name === myBestObjectStyle){exportToJPG(curPageItem);}
    function exportToJPG(someFunnyPageItem){
        someFunnyPageItem.select();
    alert('fireYourExport here ...')    ;
    gives you the page item -> run the export from there ...

  • Problems with Logo exported into a jpg not viewable by Dreamweaver

    I have created several logos in CS4 Illustrator and exported them to into a jpg.  However, when I am creating my website using CS4 Dreamweaver and try and place the image, it comes up as a blank file logo.  I can load other jpgs not created by me so must be something to do with the file.
    Second question, I need to reduce the size of the logo so it may fit into a software package for billing purposes.  The size must be 325(w) x 110(h), again it won't read the jpg, but it will read a bmp.  However, the bmp is so grainy it is not worth putting on the bill it looks so bad.  How do I shrink the image down and still maintain the clarity?
    Thank you.

    xjds wrote:
    Scott,
    Thank you for the reply.  Is your suggestion for the Dreamweaver fix or the resolution problem?
    Regards,
    John
    My suggestions are related to the actual file name.. regardless of what app you are using or how the image was exported.
    It's entirely possible that a file named "This_is_My_Really_Really_Long_Superfluous_File_Name_.jpg" is the problem. When "My_File.jpg" will work just fine.
    Same holds true for "This is my file.jpg" compared to "Thisismyfile.jpg" (no spaces).
    Just rename the files and try again in Dreamweaver.

  • Export as jpg problem

    I have some serif type from which I've created outlines. I'm saving this doc as a pdf and also exporting it as a jpg so others can place it in different types of documents. I want to make a second version of the graphic by reversing the type onto a dark bkgrd. The pdf looks and prints fine but in the jpg the type doesn't appear. (All the nonserif as well as italic serif type has no problem). So I thought I'd put a white stroke around the problem bit of type. The white stroke appears in the jpg but it looks as if it's a white stroke around dark type, instead of a white stroke around white type, which is how it appears in Illustrator and Acrobat, and prints out as such. But once it goes to jpg, this problem occurs. I messed with the "knockout group" control in the transparency palette but didn't help. It's really got me stumped. Can anyone help?

    Yes you have the white set to overprint i the attributes panel select the letter and uncheck the option to overprint the white.
    This would only be good if there was a transparency setting of some kind for the white or for an effect using the white as shading device like a glow.
    You'll get this without the overprint option checked

  • Exporting tiff and jpg together problems  Lightroom 3.1 w/ Adobe Leopard

    When both are exported w/ writing a CD: makes corrupt file some do not open and some no thumbnails...on Mac Powerbook and Macbook

    Well known problem in Leopard. It trips up on some metadata that Lightroom writes to the files. This is a bug that Apple introduced late in the leopard development, but that they still have not fixed. You should only come across the bug if you write the originals, not if you export new versions of the file.

  • IPhoto 5 not exporting images as jpg anymore

    Hi all
    Yesterday I downloaded the trial version of Fireworks to be able to do some work on my web site. Previously to the download I could export images out of my iPhoto and have it displayed in my finder as .jpg . After downloading Fireworks the images are sent to finder with just the name I've given it with no .jpg. I've tried, in the export box, to change it to jpg when prompted but this doesn't work. Suddenly all the pictures I try to export are not accepted by my web site.
    I tried loading the pictures to Fireworks and then saving them but again when looking in the finder under pictures there is no jpg, or any other attachment with the pictures.
    I have since un-installed Fireworks and restarted m computer but the problem still exists.
    Any thoughts?

    Michael:
    Launch Image Capture and make sure iPhoto is selected as the application to launch when you connect your camera. IC's preferences is where you make that selection. Did you run any updaters shortly before this started?
    As a note if case you have iPhoto delete the memory card after the upload I suggest you do not as there have been too many cases of incomplete uploads and complete erasures. It's safer to have the camera reformat the card.

  • IPhoto '08 loses exif data when exporting RAW to JPG

    I'm using a Canon 40D shooting only RAW. I just recently noticed that when I export to JPG, iPhoto loses quite a bit of important EXIF data, including, aperture info.
    Is this a known issue, or is it something unique to my system?

    I guess I misworded it. I understand that the info doesn't go away or come back. Either there's a problem in both Finder and flickr (I've uploaded the file to flickr.com) where neither finds the info in the jpeg or there's a problem in the way iPhoto writes the EXIF data to the file.
    Today, I downloaded EXIFViewer for an alternate look at the EXIF fields and the aperture data is there according to EXIFViewer. So, now I think the bug may be with flickr. Can't really call it a bug in Finder, since the expected functionality for finder is not to get "aperture info", but "More info."
    In any case, these are the fields in the More Info:
    |RAW:Name_|_RAW:Value_|_JPEG:Name_|_JPEG:Value|
    |Dimensions|2586x3892|Dimensions|2586x3892|
    |Device make|Canon|Device make|Canon|
    |Color space|RGB|Color space|RGB|
    |Profile name|Adobe RGB (1998)|Profile name|Generic RGB Profile|
    |Focal Length|44|Focal Length|44|

    And the meta info on flickr is here:

    Again, no aperture data in either flickr or Finder.

  • D3 export versions as JPG to folder--random images fail to export

    When trying to export a folder of versions as full-size jpgs (to a holding folder for burning on a DVD), I will get a random number of failures. For example, the export will complete and then list 48 of 218 that didn't export. The number of bad exports appears to vary and no particular image is affected. I have some success individually exporting the ones that failed, but this is a pain and isn't really an acceptable workflow option.
    I don't have any export problems with D2x or D2Hs files.
    Any ideas? I'm using Tiger and Aperture 2.01.
    Thanks,
    Gordon

    Interesting.
    This isn't the first D3 issue I have come across...
    See this thread here and let me know if you are having this issue as well:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1400823&tstart=0
    I was using 10.4.11 with AP2 for about 3 days and never had any problems exporting. I wasn't able to really exercise the program though either. Though I guess I wasn't exporting that much anyway because all the D3 images looked bad.
    I would say it is definitely something to do with 10.4 and AP2 with D3 files.
    Submit some feedback to the black hole...

    How can I save / generate .jpg copies from my corrected .nef files. The "Save" or bether "Save as..." menue is disabled.
    I'm sure that can't be that difficult - hopefully!
    Thanks for any hints and tips

    hi anf....
    the mac version of Organzier and PSE does not let u copy or duplicate the multiple picture files and them move them around at the same time in big single groups.
    i had the same problem when i started using PSE and solved it by using the BRIDGE program to do that stuff (duplicates etc.) and them import the new files into PSE all together >
