Exporting Images from Lightroom 4 | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV

In this Episode of The Complete Picture, Julieanne demonstrates the advantage of setting up presets in Lightroom to simultaneously export images to multiple file types, sizes, compression settings etc. You might find even find this method more powerful than Photoshop’s Image Processor!

Hi Julieanne, currently I do have several Export Presets set up so that a specific image can be exported in various sizes, I believe I have 4-5 presets.
Question:
I would like now to select an image and have "all my various image size presets" run at once without me having to select each of the presets, the method I currently use.
Is that possible?

  • Saving Changes to your Photographs in Lightroom 3 | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV

In this episode, Julieanne Kost will explain how changes made to photographs are saved automatically to the Lightroom Catalog. Then Julieanne will demonstrate how to use both the “Save Metadata to Files” command as well as the “Automatically write changes to XMP” Catalog Setting to push changes made to photographs from the catalog into individual files (or sidecar files) so that they can be read and utilized within additional applications such as Adobe Bridge.

This is great; I was just discussing the other day about what data gets saved with what file formats and how it actually gets saved.  My only confusion now is in the example given:  If you're a Lightroom user (as I am) why would you ever use Bridge?  Is there anything Bridge does that LR doesn't?

This was helpful, Julieanne, however, I have one more question on custom sort order. I am trying to sort a Collection that is made up of photos from several different import files. It's a vacation collection where I have created a different file for each day of the vacation as well as by who took the photos. So i have a file for my daughter's shots, my shots, my son's, etc, to keep things organized. Now that i have selected the "best of" from each original import file, I have created a new User Collection where I am putting them all together. The problem is, my entire Collection won't sort. I want to sort them all by capture time, but LR keeps grouping them by the original file source, and only sorting by capture time within each group. Can you help?

  • Should I use Lightroom or Bridge? | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV

In this episode of the Complete Picture, Julieanne Kost helps you decide which application is right for your workflow by explaining the differences between Lightroom and Bridge for managing images and assets.

Lightroom 4 supports Soft Proof capability that also lets you see an accurate histogram for different output RGB spaces. Lightroom 5 now also supports under 'Edit In' > 'Open As Smart Object in Photoshop.'
I agree the tutorial was excellent, thank you very much. I would just like to add that there is no reason why you can't use both Lightroom and Adobe Bridge for"digtal asset management." Keyword metadata added in LR can be written to the file or XMP sidecar using CTRL+S keys that will appear in Adobe Bridge and vice-versa. I do most of my InDesign layout image processing using LR, but keep track of ALL my project assests using Bridge. Keywords are added using BOTH applications with no issues to date.

Julianne, I have photoshop CS5. It will not open my camera raw pictures from my new Nikon D5200 (2013) raw pictures. I? I love that you di am being told to upgrade to CS6. Do I have to? Scott Kelby suggest converting the files to DNG, but will that give full use of CS5 tools. And then I have to convert each picture at a time. Also should I get Lightroom? Isn't it enough to have CS5 which cost me tons of money.

In this episode of the Complete Picture, Julieanne Kost explains how to transfer all of your Lightroom Catalogs, backups, presets, preferences and supporting files from one computer to another. If the paths to your images change along the way, she provides her tips on how to re-link any missing files and folders.

This is much more complicated than it need be - Adobe should make a Migrate command that moves the entire show. Users can then deselect options as to what to copy or simply copy wholesale. Don't you think?

I really enjoy it when you go through the creative process you go through to create an image.  You should consider doing more of this type of video.  Sometimes we (I) get too focused on how to use Lightroom and Photoshop and we (I) don't focus on the end product.

In this episode of The Complete Picture, Julieanne demonstrates the incredible power of Variables in Photoshop. Learn how to cut hours of time out of your production time when you need to combine text and photographs. Although this feature has been in Photoshop for many releases, only a small number of customers know if it’s immense power for tasks such as automating event photography, creating web banners and graphics.

Struggling with my .png's in variables.  They are sizing up against the previous dataset and shrink.  By the 5th or 6th in my set of datasets, I'm working with a tiny version - very lo-res.  Jpg's are no problem as are .png's that are a set size (i.e. 4x5).  Only my cutout PNG's with transparency around them are an issue.  Thoughts on how to keep the size from shrinking?
    thank you

  • How to Reset Photoshop CS6's Preferences File | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV

In this episode of The Complete Picture, Julieanne demonstrates two methods for one of the most common trouble shooting techniques: resetting the Photoshop Preferences.
    http://adobe.ly/QPZVvn

Been looking for one of your tutorials referencing the kind of problem I seem to be having, but haven't located it.  It concerns Photoshop CS6 and saving files to jpeg when an image has been created using levels and layers.   The problem is this:
Recently I got Photoshop CS6 and started using Layers.  I put stars into a night sky.  Followed basic proceedures starting with noise filters and reducing the number of stars through levels and screen settings etc, I created an image that started with thousands of stars to around a hundred or so.  I added some light to the stars and some color, then saved it as a photoshop image.  All fine.  When I tried to save the image as a jpeg, some of the layers went missing and the final saved image contained all the thousands of stars I started with.  Is this a bug in the program and if so is there a fix for it.  If there is another way to get around this problem and allow me to save the image as a jpeg without losing layers, that would be fine as well.  I've tried grouping layers and images together and other collective methods, but the end results are still the same.  Layers go missing and the sky is filled with all the stars (noise filter settings), not the finished product.
    Thanks in advance
    Lorne R.
