Exporting many still images

The thread on exporting a still image reminds me to ask how you can export a whole series of stills. I often want to export a lot of stills from a film to use in graphics programmes but wonder if there is a way to do this without having to work my way through each individual clip. On a previous editing system I used to create a whole lot of one frame clips and then exported selection of them all and they appeared as tifs (or whatever). Does FCP have something similar. I have feeling that I once did something similare using batch export but cannot remember how even when I re read the help.

Yes it does. Once you've assembled the frames you want to export, set an IN and OUT point, the go to File->Export->Using QuickTime Conversion. In the export window, choose "Image Sequence" and then choose the file format you want from the OPTIONS button. Make sure you create a folder for the files to go into.

  • Export to Still Image only exports PICT. PICT not supported in 64-bit

Quicktime Player Pro 7 only exports still images as Quicktime compressed images in a PICT container. However, neither Preview nor Photoshop CS5 read PICT files anymore. (There don't seem to be any 64-bit PICT handlers)
So I can export a still image out of a movie?

Yes. Either use Leopard OS for QT 7 Pro export as a PICT and Preview to covert to another format or use MPEG Streamclip (free) to export the frame directly to JPEG, TIFFF, and/or PNG formats under Snow Leopard OS.

  • Create and export a still image form video?

How do I create and then export a still image from my video? Is it the same as freeze frame? It seems like that is different? I looked on youtube and a guy was telling how to do it, but he said to go up to share at the top and it is not there on my version. I think perhaps he was using an older version.. So to cut to the chase.. How do I create a still photo form my vdieo then export it to desktop or iphoto?

You seem to have added to "Save Current Frame" option to the destinations, but you are not using, if what you are outputting is a video file and not a still image file.
Now, click Next..., choose a file name and folder to save it on. That is just that.

  • Exporting JPEG still images in Final cut 5

Just wondering if anyone can tell me how to export a still image from final cut?
I used to have final cut 3 and it was as simple as file/export/quicktime...
but now it only gives me options for a quicktime movie...
    Thanks...
    Jeremy.

Instead of "export to quicktime" choose "export using qt conversion".
Then in options selects the type of still you want.

  • How do you export a still image from a sequence ?

I could easily export a frame as still image in CS3 (File / export / ...)
But how do you do this in CS4 ??... Adobe found another way of making something simple so difficult !...  I try to export media, then select a still image format, make sure ''export sequence'' is *not* selected, but when I look at the output, what I get is not where I had stopped the cursor and appeared on the monitor, but I get the first frame of the sequence instead.
What am I doing wrong here ?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Your way should work, it worked for me.
    Try reading this:
Select a clip in the Project panel or a Timeline.
Choose File > Export > Media.
In the Export Settings dialog box, select a still-image format from the Format menu. See Export Settings Format options.
If tabs are not visible below the Summary pane, click the Advanced Mode button.
On the Video tab, deselect the Export As Sequence option (if it is selected).
(Optional) To deinterlace the frame, select Progressive from the Field Type menu.
(Optional) To correct the pixel aspect ratio for display on computer screens, select Square Pixels from the Aspect menu.
Click the Output Name hot text.
Browse to the location where you want to save the still-image file, type a filename for it, and click Save.
In the Export Settings viewing area, drag the playhead to the frame you want to export as a still image.
    Click OK.
Check no.10 did you drag the playhead in the export settings viewing area? Or did you do that on the timeline?
    Good luck.

  • CS3 export missing still images.

    Hello All,
I'm trying to produce a video which is essentially a slide show timed to a music beat. It's a lot of still images that play really fast.   It's almost like stop-motion video, but in some areas of the video, the images are up on the screen longer to match the music.  All the still images have been formated as jpgs that are 1920x1080, for 1080p resolution video.  When I watch the video in the preview window, all the images play.  When I render the work area, all the images play.
However when I export the video out to a mpg4 coded *.mov file, there will be a couple of images that stays on the screen longer it's supposed to.  It's like certain pictures get stuck, and subsequent images get skipped.  It skips over the next 4-5 images, before resuming the rest of the video which so far seems to export just fine.  The images that get skipped over are the images that are intentionally meant to be on the screen longer.
I can't seem to find any differentiation in the jpg files themselves other than some have the icc profile, and some do not.  But both types of jpgs images
(w/ & w/o the icc profile) do appear in the export, as well as get skipped over.
The project has even exported at a lower resolution, 720x5XX, and the same thing happens in the same places over the same length of time.  I've exported a smaller piece around those areas that get skipped, and it's just a different image that gets stuck on the screen, and the video skips over the images that are intentionally left on the screen for longer.
I'm completely baffled for what could be causing the issue.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, and let me know if there's any information I can provide that can help lead to a solution.

Don't use the MOV format.  And don't use the QuickTime player.  See if that helps.

  • Problem with exporting moving still images

    Hello.
I would like to create a sequence where the movie is made of still images (photos in .PSD format, reminiscent of a old-fashioned Polaroid photos) with added motion.
Now the problem is that after rendering and exporting (DV format, both interlaced and progressive) these moving-images somehow bounce or leap on the edges, especially inner white edge. It doesn't matter if I turn on or off the "optimize stills" option.
I attached short sample but it shows what I mean.
The file is 1MiB, 5sec, progressive, compressed with XviD with constant quantizer=2, resized to 640x480.
But all above modifications of exported file do not matter what so ever. It's the same with original export.
What shoud I do to improve fluency and smoothness of the movie?
    I use Premiere Pro 1.5.

    Hi,
I'm a newbee...brand new at learning premiere pro cs3....so I should not give you advice but others here are very very good at this stuff. I like the effect of your sample video. When I first looked at it I thought only the bottom edge was slightly jittery, but I can now see that the entire image inside the white border does jump...the jittery-ness is the vertical (not horizontal) movement of the image about 1 or 2 pixels up and down as it is interpolated at certain points in time.  The larger the screensize of the image the more noticeable it is.
I found this help file about keyframes and animation and interpolation...
    Change transition settings
In the Timeline panel, click a transition to select it.
In the Effect Controls panel, adjust settings:
    Edge selectors
Change the orientation or direction of the transition. Click an Edge selector arrow on the transition’s thumbnail. For example, the Barn Doors transition can be oriented vertically or horizontally. A transition doesn’t have Edge selectors if it has one orientation or if orientation isn’t applicable.
    Start and End sliders
Set the percentage of the transition that is complete at the start and end of the transition. Hold down the Shift key to move the start and end sliders together.
    Show Actual Sources
Displays the starting and ending frames of the clips.
    Border Width
Adjusts the width of the optional border on the transition. The default Border is None. Some transitions do not have borders.
    Border Color
Specifies the color of the transition’s border. Double‑click the color swatch or use the eyedropper to choose the color.
    Reverse
Plays the transition backward. For example, the Clock Wipe transition plays counterclockwise.
    Anti‑Aliasing Quality
Adjusts the smoothness of the transition’s edges.
    Custom
Changes settings specific to the transition. Most transitions don’t have custom settings.
Maybe the anti-aliasing quality adjustment will help?
I put your sample clip into VirtualDub and tried a filter called "Field Bob" (compensates for field jumping in field- split video by applying bob-deinterlacing techniques). In the filter setting I tried "smooth" for both even and odd fields.  It didn't really help.

  • How to Batch Export Wide Still images

    Hello,
I'm currently working on a project that uses Widescreen. I have no problems exporting the movie project to DVDstudio pro file, but when I try to Batch Export the Still Clips I took, it makes it into 4:3 size, rather than 16:9. Because of this, pictures look squished. How would I fix this since I didn't see any options in Batch Export for wide.
I'm using Final Cut Pro 5.0.4

As mentioned above, that is a possibility. You haven't said how you plan to use them. If quality is paramount I would advise against doing a "destructive" stretch on them unless you're moving them to a final definitive size as in web graphics. There's little enough resolution in SD video to start with.
If you're using them in the print world they will fare much better if they are stretched within the production app. Just ignore the aspect ratio and tell it they're an inch by 9/16ths, or 16x9 cm, or whatever system you're working with.
If you dig around in Photoshop, they have a system to identify and deal with with NTSC tall pixels, perhaps they have one for anamorphic as well. More confusing than helpful to me.

  • Exporting HQ still image from clips

I seem to recall reading about how to do this a few years ago here. Didn't need it then. Now that I need it, can't find it!
What I need: Still shots exported from Final Cut Studio 7.0.3 to be used on website. I'd like them to stay VERY near the quality they are.
A link or step by step would be great.
    Cheers.

Or if you don't have Photoshop, export the image as directed and open it in the app Preview.
Go to the menu Tools > Adjust Size and choose Fit In To 1280 X 720
    !http://www.spotsbeforeyoureyes.com/PreviewResize.jpg!
Then save it in this size.
    Hope this helps.

  • Compress many "still images" into a quicktime video file....possible????

Is it possible to take hundreds of "still frames" (like jpegs or tiffs) into Compressor and export them as a quicktime movie(I know I need 30 pics for every second using 29.97)? If so how? Thanks

    Christopher..
Was doing this in ImageReady, followed all the steps to save the file (with all the time lapse images) as a quicktime movie file.
And when I open the saved quick time movie file it only saves one image as a .mov quicktime file and not the rest of the images?
Looked through a few notes, retried and couldn't figure it out?
    Marion..
FCP.. I have no idea where to begin in learning how to import .jpg (timelapse) images into FCP let alone piece it into a small film.
All the images are ready to be converted into a movie file..just don't know where to start.
any leads would be greatly welcomed!     ~A~

I wish to export several frames from iMovie as if they were images (like JPEGs or TIFFs). Is it possible to do this using iMovie, if so how? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I've already managed to 'add a freeze frame' to isolate the desired frames but I can't export it. Thanks.

Ach... I found a solution thanks to previous posts which came to light after I'd posted what was obviously a question that had been asked before.

  • Exporting A Still Image

I have searched everywhere for some advice on this and I haven't found anything which has fixed my problem.
I have an image which I designed in Illustrator, and would like to use just that one image for my video along with a music track.
Maybe I am exporting the image wrong from Illustrator, however I have tried to use HD wallpapers instead and the quality of the image is always degraded in the exported no matter what settings I try.
    Any tips?

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me and help me out.
I have exported from Illustrator in both PNG and JPEG formats.
    These are my Sequence Settings:
The way I have tired to export in a H.264 format at 1080p.
I have kept most of the settings as they are in the HD 1080p 23.976 preset. However what I have changed is I have increased the bitrate encoding to VBR, 2 Pass and bumped up the Target bitrate and Maximum Bitrate. The last thing I changed was I selected Maximum render quality.
I am sorry if I am asking stupid questions, however I have only just got involved with video and started to feel helpless so thanks for taking the time to help me.

  • Compiling many still images into a movie

    Hi,
I have about 2,000 still frames, all PNG files, that I wish to compile into a movie. They are a bit of a weird size (1049x870px) so iStopMotion doesn't work.
iMovie 8 is beyond useless for this since it downsizes them, works in a different frame rate (25fps as opposed to the 15fps that I need the final movie in), there seems to be no clear way to set the number of frames each still should last (unlike in iMovie 5), and above all, it cannot seem to import them in the correct order, and I don't have the time to manually import 2,400 files in order.
Does anyone have any software recommendations, ideally freeware/demo/cheap shareware?
    Cheers

I suspect the random order problem is the result of a peculiar Finder bug that has been around since, well, a long time. Try opening the Finder in Column view, navigate to the folder, and then select the contents and drag 'n drop into iMovie. The only way alphanumeric order is respected for any number of Finder things is if the folder is in Column view.

  • CS4 doesn't allow Export Frame as a Still Image??

In CS3, I could create a still image of a frame (tiff file) by placing the CTI on the frame in the Source Monitor and then choose File>Export>Frame. This would create the file and place it in the Project I could adjust the default of the length of the still image through Preferences>General>Still Image Duration.
The File>Export>Frame option is no longer in CS4.......???
Can anyone tell me the quickest way to create or export a still image from the Source Monitor in CS4??
    Thanks a TON!
