Exporting movie for use on Powerpoint - Windows

Does anybody know what settings I should use if I want to use a movie footage on Windows Powerpoint (it is for a friends presentation tomorrow). It is a 8min film. Tried Mpeg 4 - After 30mins it was estimating 500 mins!!! Would another (quicker) encoding format work? Thanks

Hi Gwyn,
to my knowledge you HAVE to choose the avi container in the QT expert settings... ppt is a bit sensitive with "alien" imports.......
additionally, I would ask your friend, what size/resolution is needed... that makes the files smaller..., don't choose a too high framerate, probably 15fps is enough... ppt needs all resources of the PC, no air left for a smooth video...
500min for a mpeg4 is way too long... you're sure, you didn't incidently choose h264...? that needs indeed DAYS for encoding... , and doesn't work on most PCs......

  • Exporting videos for use in PowerPoint

I have a seven minute video I am trying to export for use in a PowerPoint presentation. Everything plays fine - the video is more grainy that I would have liked - but the titles just show up as black screens. I can still hear the audio but it will just flash the words for a split second and then turn to a black screen.
Do you have any idea why this may be happening? Is there a different format I should be using or is it simply a PowerPoint problem?

I don't know what "Optimize Stills" means. When I say I'm very new at video editing, I mean brand new. I was able to put together a 45 second news-clip-style video of our latest staff function but this is pushing eight minutes and is an integral part of our organization's upcoming forums next Tuesday.
Do you think I should be contacting Microsoft about what the issue might be with PowerPoint, instead of worrying about my file?
The weird thing is, when I just Export-Movie, it comes out fine in Windows Media Player but wonky in PP. When I Export-Adobe Encode-WMV, it won't even open on my computer or play in Windows Media Player. Any suggestions on compressing the file further without any problems?

  • Should I Use Boot Camp or Parallels for use of a Windows Desktop?

    I am migrating from a PC to a Mac; I want to take advantage of having a Windows desktop to run some apps until i buy Mac equivalent software;
    I have Tiger, but am installing Leopard this weekend;
Should I Use Boot Camp or Parallels for use of a Windows Desktop?
I am tempted by not having to reboot, but i don't want my mac to slow down?
I am a photographer and use Photoshop and other graphics intensive programs.

    Hi,
to achieve full computing power while in Windows you have to use BootCamp and for Photoshop and other apps of that caliber in Windows its the best.
For apps less demanding using Parallels (VMWare Fusion) is sufficient enough and the slight downgrade in speed is negligible.
You should however (if not already done) max out the RAM of your Mac.

  • Batch conversion of MOV files for use in PPro Windows

I have PPro CS3 on Windows XP (the OS is more relevent to the question than the software version, I think).  I have been buying some inexpensive stock footage, and the HD/SD libraries they have been offering lately come as MOV files with apple-flavored codecs, if you know what I mean.  Fortunately PPro has been able to open everything I have tried so far, but of course they have to be rendered.  And results in player software (for previewing clips) varies by frame size and whether the clip has audio (most don't, but a few do), and not being able to see thumbnails in Windows hampers my speed in selecting clips, especially since the files came named "1.mov", "2.mov", etc. (yeah, I'll eventually rename them to something useful).  So I would like to just convert them all to AVIs with the Microsoft DV codec, so that they will play natively in PPro without rendering.  I know I could use PPro to do the conversion (put them all on a timeline and do Export Movie one at a time), but I was hoping for a batch solution.  I've downloaded and installed a number of free converter programs, but nothing seems to be able to output in the Microsoft DV codec.
Some of the files are HD (1920x1080), some are SD 16:9 that were reduced from those HD clips, and some are original SD 4:3.  The codec for the HD ones is reported by GSpot to be "Apple Photo JPEG", and the SD ones use something simply called "dvc" or "DV".  Noting the similarity of the name "DV", I did try just telling the conversion program to leave the video stream alone and just change the wrapper from MOV to AVI.  WMP and Windows' thumbnail generator seem to understand the resulting file, but PPro shows colored noise - so much for that idea.
    Any suggestions are welcome!

For my conversions, I use DigitalMedia Converter 2.7, and it does batch conversion very well. Now for the caveat (you knew one was coming, right?), Deskshare has introduced "new and improved" software, but I have not tried it yet. I do not know how it will handle your footage, so the trial might be in order.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • What's the best settings to Export movie for smaller file sizes?

Hi, I've been working on some helmet cam footage which was taken with Xvidmpeg4.avi and was advised to convert it to dvavi for editing in PrE, this created a huge file to work with, the original footage was 206mb and the finished edited dvavi file is now 1.56gb, what settings can I use to export the movie with a much smaller file size, but hopefully try to retain some quality, to upload to places like Vimeo? I thought I would try to export it in the same as the original footage Xvidmpeg4.avi thinking this might compress it again to something like the 206mb of the original and the original was good quality footage, but PrE just hangs up with a box stating 'Xvid Status (Not Responding)' and when I try to cancel that the whole thing crashes and closes? So when I go to File > Export > Movie, what would be the best settings in:
    General > File Type ?
    Video > Compressor
lots of options under compressor if I select the file type as Microsoft AVI, so I'm guessing something under that would compress it to a smaller file size but what, I could spend all night trying different settings so hoping for some advice?
Or, if I'm completely in the wrong place for the settings and should be doing something else please tell me?
    Thanks, Gav

Thanks for the replies, but to me it's still confusing - simply because there are so many settings, if I go to Share/Personal Computer I'm then presented with a whole load of settings
    NTSC Flash Video
    MPEG
    DVAVI
    Windows Media
    QuickTime
and under each of those is a lot more advanced settings?
I'm guessing I wouldn't use flash or quicktime, so which of the others would I use and what are the advanced settings to use as I can't find anything that is .wmv or .mov
What I've done with other videos that I've exported from PrE as dvavi is then to put it through Windows Movie Maker, Publish Movie, This Computer, then put the settings to Windows Media DVD Quality (PAL) (3.0 Mps) - this seemed to be the only setting that reduced the file size considerably but still had good quality, but it's still about twice the original file size?
This all seems long winded to me, open original file, convert original file, output another file, then output the file again in something else which then results in loss of quality and a larger file than the original? I'm ending up with lots of files, was hoping just to edit in Premiere then export/publish that edited clip and that would be it, then upload to the net.
Is it not possible to just edit my original footage and save it, just like you would with something like a word document, should I be using something else and not Premiere?
    Thanks.

  • Exporting JPG for use as as Splash Screen or Thumbnail

I need to produce jpg files at 262x193 and 320x240 for use as thumbnails on a web page, but don't see a way to so this with Compressor.
Currently I have to use Cleaner to produce these images seeing as there seem to be a scriptable means to:
    1. Export first frame of target .mov
    2. Resize to 262x193 and Export as .jpg at Quality 100
    3. Resize to 320x240 and Export as .jpg at Quality 40

So you are looking to PRODUCE jpg images from video, it isn't that you have the jpg's already and want to compress them.
If so, the process you have with cleaner sounds like the only way to go about it - but it is a process you could do in Compressor as well. Just bring the movie into compressor and export the movie twice into the two different sizes you want, and then export your stills from each.
Though if you have Photoshop, you could export all the files just at one size and create a Batch for Photoshop to do all the reszing to the second size while you sit back and watch.

  • What is the best video format to export to for use on the web?

I am looking for a quick anawer.  What is the best format and size setting to use to export a video for use on a web page (I am using DreamWeaver to develop my web site and FCX to creat the movie).  I like the size and quality of the opening video on the Apple home page if anyone knows what that is.

Use the  http streamimg preset so the movie will be compatible with a range of different devices.

  • Exporting movie for IDVD.

I have been posting some recent problems I'm having with dropped frames when viewing on timelime in FCE 2.0.3. I am now encountering a dialog box "file: I/O error" when I try to export the project as a Quicktime file for use in IDVD. I can find nothing in my manual on what an I/O error is. I can't seem to be able to export the project at all now. I have recently moved up to FCE 2(with Tiger), I was using FCE1 (Panther) before and rarely had problems. Has anyone encountered this problem? Thanks, Dave.

    Tom,
I have tried exporting the project both ways--as self-contained and not self-contained. The timeline is rendered and mixed down. I'm exporting to the same hard drive as FCE is on(I have only one).
I have been having problems playing the project from the timeline as well. It locks up, drops frames, and then continues. It could be that these two problems are somehow related. I recently upgraded to FCE 2 from 1, and upgraded from panther to tiger. Not sure if this has somnethging to do with it. I have been trying to get Apple Help...but they don't know a lot about Final Cut. They say I have enough RAM(1gb).

  • Converting Movie for use on iPod

I bought a movie on iTunes the other day. The movie plays fine on my computer and on the AppleTV. But it will not sync to my iPod Touch or iPhone.
When I tried to convert the Movie by using File -> Create New Version -> Create iPod or iPhone Version. I only got an error message: Error occured while converting the file "<Movie Name>". an unknown error occurred (-4).
Any suggestion on the meaning of the error and how to correct it?

Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert the videos; more information on this issue is available in this article.

  • Creating video mpegs for use in a windows based powerpoint presentation

im putting a few short video clips together for a friend to use as part of a powerpoint presentation for work..
i have tried to send him a quicktime movie before and he hasn't been able to play it back at work so im worried about how to encode these clips so they are good quality and he can see them on his pc and use them in the presentation...
im asuming he's not downloaded any extra codec things at all so it'll need to be compatible with whatever windows has as standard...
cany anyone help me figure out the best option?
    thanks

Quick Time Pro exports MPEG-4 which will not insert into PowerPoint for Windows. While you will need third-party software or hardware to export to MPEG-1 (I recommend MPEG Encoder Mac 1.5, from mainconcept.com), the whole issue here is the strange world of what PowerPoint will and will not do in Mac and then over again on Windows.... Now the "good news" is that PowerPoint can play back MPEG-1 natively, on both platforms, without any additional codecs installed. While you can use the same MPEG-1 clip, the "bad news" is that different system resources are called upon to play it back. So, if you were to insert an MPEG-1 clip in a Mac PowerPoint file, and re-open it on Windows, you will get a prompt that you need a particular QuickTime component intstalled. If you do the obverse, QuickTime will play back the audio but only display the first frame on Mac. You can still use the same MPEG-1 clip.

  • Change colour profile on export of jpeg for using files on windows pc

My father, who is 80, has a mac and aperture.
He is reasonable proficient using it, but as a windows user myself I'm unsure of the in's and out's of things and it always falls on me to help him when he has a problem.
He also has a windows computer, which he has a programme on for making calenders.
The problem we have is that when he saves his photo's after editing in aperture to a dvd, he puts this dvd into his windows pc and he cannot see any of the previews.
On opening up any picture in photoshop on the pc, it asks if he wants to use the embedded colour profile or change it.
I'm wondering if Aperture is exporting using a certain profile which windows cannot read? Thus doesn't show the preview.
He needs the preview to pick which pictures he wants to use on the calender.
He then stores all his pictures on the dvd.
I'm pretty sure he shoots as jpegs, not raw. Though I need to ask him.
He has several different cameras, and I think he has trouble with all of them. I'm pretty sure one is a nikon d5300 (I just googled red body nikon)
Is there a colour profile for aperture when saving as a jpeg that is compatible with windows?
It's a hundred mile round trip to visit and to then sit down and try to work it out by trial and error would take some time.
So if I can find an answer and call on the phone to tell him what to do, it'd save me a lot of time
I'm not sure what Mac he has, what OS he's using or which version of Aperture, he only recently bought it, so guess at the latest one.......... I know I'm a great help !!!!!
I can find out if needed, but thought there might be an easy fix....... I know, whenever is there an easy fix for anything!!!
    Cheers,
    Graham

There is no standard for a 'Preview'. It's a feature of the software that is opening a file as to how it shows those files to the user for selection. Some software will look in the file header for a thumbnail, some will use the files associated icon (if it has one) and some will just present a list of file names. I seriously doubt changing the colour profile output by Aperture will have any impact on this.
Although Aperture doesn't have a calendar feature, iPhoto does and as of the last year or so, Aperture has an option to open it's library in iPhoto. So if he has a current enough version of Aperture and iPhoto, he could avoid the issue altogether if he is happy to switch into iPhoto to make the Calendar.
If he wasn't using DVD (say a USB thumbdrive instead) he could run a utility on the PC to create icons for the files where the icon is a thumbnail of the picture, which the calendar software might then use when prompting for images to load. But the use of DVD complicates this, as it depends on the DVD drivers and file systems in use on the DVD.
Chances of resolving this remotely, remote

  • How do I export my library of Raw files to jpegs for use in a windows system?

So we just returned from vacation in Belize and I have over 1300 raw images in an aperture library.  I need to export all of these images in jpeg format, onto a flash drive, so my wife can easily view them on her windows machine.  How can I do this?

File -> Export and select an Export Preset (or create one for your preferred spec) and export to a folder on the desktop.

In Captivate 5, what formats can be exported to (now that AVI is no longer a choice) that will work with Windows Media Player? Unfortunately a Flash based file is not an option in this instance.

    Hi there
You could publish from Captivate as FLV or F4V, then use a conversion utility to convert to AVI if you want.
