Exporting MPEG2's????

I am using an uncompressed quicktime graphic within final cut that I have to take into dvd studio pro to create a dvd. When I export an mpeg2 and burn my dvd the graphic seems to look like I have lost Alot of contrast. The quality has been greatly lost. What is the best method for exporting from final cut into DVD Studio Pro.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Why don't you import the graphic directly into DVDSP? What is FCP doing for you?
I've found that if you are creating a slideshow for DVD (or just creating video from a still image), exporting from FCP using Compressor yields the best results. It avoids the DV codec in the interim.
Other's recommending using Uncompressed 8 bit as your sequence format instead of DV. This also avoids the DV codec although I haven't really tried this.

I am trying to export mpeg2 files so DVD Studio Pro 1.5 can use them.
However, When I try to export from FCE-HD using quicktime mpeg2 format, it causes the application to fail with the following error.

Tom,
I want to burn it to DVD. I want to create DVDs with no menu navigation, just play track after track, or one large track consisting of videos mixed-edited in FCE. Don't I have to export my project from FCE to DVDSP to do that? iDVD doesn't seem to give you the option to create a DVD without a menu, except as a lead in track that ends with a menu.

Exporting MPEG2 files for Blu-ray from 720p60

I am exporting MPEG2 files for Blu-ray from 720p60 using compressor 3.05. I export straight from Final Cut 6 to compressor. It all looks great except I end up with some frames in the video that pixelate. It is just one frame, and the average viewer may not see it, but if you go frame by frame you see it. I thought it was just a bad export, but I exported the file again and the same thing happens again on the exact same frame. The fact that it happened again on the exact same frame was very odd to me. It is this way on five different video files. It's certainly not like that in the original on my timeline, so I don't know why it is doing that.
I guess I will try exporting a quicktime file first and then putting that file through compressor to see if that makes a difference. Any ideas from anybody?

Exporting a quicktime file first still produced the pixelated frame. I'm not sure what else to try.

FCP won't export MPEG2

Just upgraded my OS to 10.5.7 from 10.4.9. No other changes to the system have been made but now FCP 4 will not export MPEG2. FCP locks up every time I try. FCP will still export QT and others, just not MPEG2. Never been a problem in the past. Any ideas?

You were delightfully clear. My point it your previous experience doesn't count for anything because of the drastic change you've made to the computer.
Think of it this way. Your computer is a human body that someone decides to do a heart transplant on even though the current heart seems to be functioning just peachy. Not only do they do a heart transplant, they don't bother to fully remove the previous version but simply splice in a few new valves and maybe a larger diameter aorta. So, this poor guy wakes up the next morning and finds that he can't walk because the new cobbled up heart just doesn't function as well as the older perfectly functioning one. All this flies in the face of the assurances of the Doctors (Apple marketing dept). They told him everything would be WONDERFUL when they were finished. Yea, right.
Let's not forget your liver 4.5 is not supported by heart 10.5.7

Exporting Mpeg2 in FCP to author in DVD pro

After exporting mpeg2 video in 4:3 aspect ratio, when importing clip into dvd sp, image has narrowed with 2 black lines either side. Have been using these programs for 14 months successfully, this is happening to all clips since December...never happened before!!??

PS I had some advice from another forum group who said to try and export a Quicktime movie into DVD Pro and not to send to Compressor, I will try that later and see if that helps.

Premiere CS4 export Mpeg2 setting

i use Premiere CS4 and i am a leisure user.
1. when i export mpeg2, the video is 800m file sze
    if i export to DVD, the files (video + audio) are 240m
   as i know DVD is mpeg2, what's wrong with the setting on huge file size difference?
   i need a small size mpeg2 file.
2. can i edit vob directly? it is very time-consuming to convert vob to avi and then edit.
3. when i used premiere pro before, it has function to export DVD directly at premiere.
    but now CS4 need to revert to Encore. Any fast track?
4. i alway have corrupted cache when importing avi files. i need to remove cache and import again until it is ok
   any way i can do it better or less error.
5. any fast method to simply cut the movie, not do any change of resolution, codec....

Unfortunately, you've posted to the Premiere, and not the Premiere Pro forum. This is for a program that predates the "Pro" designation. Maybe the MOD's will move this for you, so you'll get more traffic.
Now, let's see if I can address some of your questions:
As for the MPEG-2, it is most likely that the larger file has a much higher bit-rate. What are the settings between your Exported MPEG-2 and those in the Transcoded file? That is the common difference.
As for editing .VOB's, if they are 100% DVD-compliant (very important), then CS4.1 can Import and edit. These still have the MPEG-2 compression, but should work fine. If those .VOB's were created by Encore, then changes are almost 100% certain, that you can edit them. If not, then the odds go down, and quickly. See this ARTICLE on .VOB's.
Export to DVD directly, went away with CS3. The included Encore is much, much better, and is the way to go. There is also a forum for it.
I've never had a corrupted cache, and cannot help here.
If you have DV-AVI Type II material as source, you can edit until the cows come home, and Export to DV-AVI Type II with no noticable degredation. Other formats/COCE's not so much. Here, it just depends.

Maybe this topic has been covered, but I cannot find a clear answer to my problem. I have been searching the net for almost an hour! :P
I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1, QT7 pro with the Mpeg component. Mpeg Streamclip, and any number of open source programs.
I just need to export an mpeg2 video from final cut express, simple.
And before people start asking why... it for a solid state video player that requires MPEG2 or MPEG1

Unfortunately, it is not possible to export MPEG2 or MPEG1 from FCE.
You might try ffmpegx. It's aging but people have reported it working fine in Snow Leopard (10.6.x)

Well, iDVD will do the rendering correct to Mpeg2 anyway, correct? If I do not render as a self-contained movie, it will reference the dv files on the encode in iDVD. Seems like this is the best situation at present.
I am coming from FCS and I have a friend who is using FCE to do basic stuff and I am just trying to help him get a DVD workflow going.

Getting Export Controller Error When Exporting MPEG2 to High boardband & up

I just got QuickTime Pro and MPEG 2 Playback for Windows. I am getting an Export Controller Error When Exporting MPEG2 to High boardband or to the default settings. The file I am exporting is around 60 MB and when it gets to about 15%, the program errors. However, the program works for Medium and low Board band. If anybody has a solution for my problem, I would love to know.

Not sure if this is going to work, but it worked for me. After exporting the movie and I got the error, I noticed that the process "exportController" was still running, so I stopped it from the task manager and am not sure but apperantly that was the problem because once I did that the file open up fine in other players like Winamp. Also after stopping the process the following exports I did seemed to be exported fine without any errors !... worth a shot.

Exported MPEG2 Audio Won't Play in Quicktime - is there a workaround?

Just completed my first video edit in Premiere Elements. Working with 720p HD footage from a Sony Cybershot. Tried various preset outputs, HD 720p 25, among others. In all cases, picture looked good but audio did not play back. Just discovered after some searching that Quicktime will not playback MPEG2 audio without a $20 add on. That's not going to break my bank, but do I really need it? Is there a workaround for this? Can I export in Dolby Digital? My goal is simply to have a finished project that is the most universally playable as possible. Will eventually archive on tape and DVD. Obviously, want to maintain the best sound as possible.

Instead of using Apple's QuickTime Player, I would suggest looking into another player, such as VLC Player, or MediaPlayer Classic HC, both of which are free, and both of which have a very full set of CODEC's included in them.
For the best possible Audio, it would be best to choose PCM/WAV as the Audio CODEC. This is almost totally universal, and unlike all MPEG Audio (including AC3), is uncompressed. The file will be a bit larger (Audio does not take up as much space, as does the Video), but should give better quality, and not require additional CODEC's for users to play the file w/ Audio. This might not be an option in all possible Export/Share schemes.
For either PCM/WAV, or AC3 Audio, this will be set from the Audio Tab in the Export/Share settings. Remember setting the Encoding for the Audio might not be available in all formats, so just check that Audio Tab in the settings dialog screen (usually under Advanced).
As for DD Audio, you can set the Audio Encoding to AC3, wich is Dolby Digital, but that option might not be available with all possible Export/Share formats, so it gets down to an "it depends." This will be stereo (2-channel) Audio.
PrE cannot Encode to DD 5.1 SS (6-channel), as it lacks that Encoder. Even PrPro needs the Minnetonka Audio SurCode Encoder plug-in (US$300 option) to do DD 5.1 SS Export.

Export MPEG2 from Final Cut, HDV for use it on PC platform

My client needs to upload the videos in a PC network, he asked me to deliver the final videos on MPEG 2. I have tried to export by using compressor but the clips come out without sound. How can I have the videos with sound and in MPEG 2?
Or is there any other format that I can export on, so the videos can run on a PC? I tried WMP from Quicktime but it only exports up to 30 seconds. Do I have to buy a Flip4mac to be able to export a longer file ? and if so which version of Flip4mac is advisable?

I noted that by doing WMP videos the files are way smaller in size, which is very good for me because I have to FTP 20 videos of 2 min. each to my client. Is WMP the same quality or equivalent to MPEG 2?
I assume you mean WMV files?
Yes, WMVs can be superior to MPEG2 files, but it's all about the choices you make when you encode encoding them. It's also possible to get very acceptable WMVs at very small file sizes, again depending on your content and your encoding expertise.
Flip4Mac's documentation will take you through the steps and the choices. Pay attention to the details and test, test test.
I've found that Windows users are always happier with WMVs, as there are never any compatibility issues - and the last thing I need when the deadline is getting closer is troubleshooting my client's windows installations.

Exporting MPEG2-DVD

When I export my video in Premiere CS6 as MPEG2-DVD it says the file size is 1086 MB but when I go to were I saved the video it is 2.60 GB how can I reduce the file size when exporting?

Export mpeg2 as a self contained movie

I received a digital photo frame for father's day. It plays video in the mpeg2 format and includes speakers. When I export from Final Cut Pro using Compresor, it separates the audio file from the video. When I play the mpeg2 on the frame I only get video.
How can I make the mpeg2 a self contained movie that includes audio?

My daughter can take a card out of a point and shoot still camera with video capability and it plays without a problem including sound.

Exporting mpeg2 from FCP

i have read some post on this already and it looks like i can use the Cinema Tools 2.0 to export a MPEG2 from FCP. I just can not figure out how to do this. If you can tell how or where to go to learn... Bottom line i need to make my project a MPEG2.

David, I just left the below for another user... try this:
If you want the very best settings, try 'MPEG-2 Very High Quality', 60/90/or 120 minutes when using Compressor, depending on the length of your material. That should help when you import assets in DVD Studio.
You'll get good results using Compressor.
