Exporting Photos From Aperture to Photoshop Elements for Layer-Editing

Back when I paired iPhoto with PSE to do layer editing, it was easy to export the first layer-picture from iPhoto, then click-and-drag the second photo directly on top of the first in PSE, then 'stretch to fit'.
I've since moved to Aperture 3, and although I can 'edit in Photoshop Elements' the first picture, I can't drag or export so that it superimposes ready for opacity adjustment and effects...

What happens if you select both images in Aperture, and then click to Edit in External Editor?

How can I export photos from APERTURE with a new sequence and ignore the embedded JPEG number? Have tried renumbering to no avail.
    has anyone resolved this issue?
This is now the second big Problem with using Apple's Appeture with NO apparent FIX...
Aperture has NO DIRECT way to Burn to a CD/DVD & apparently NO way to RE-SEQUENCE the numbering system????
ANYONE... I wish APPLE would address/fix these 2 problems... LIGHTROOM I guess is next?

    Hi David,
Coming in and whining loudly is rude.  We are all volunteers here, voluntarily sharing our expertise so that users like you can make the most of their time with Aperture.  Speaking just for myself:  although I do care about your success with software (it's why I'm here), I don't care what software you use.  If you want to use Lightroom, do so, and post your questions in an appropriate forum.
Burning files to a CD is a file operation done at the system level (it is built into OS X).  Aperture lets your create sharable image-format files from your Images.  You then use OS X's tools to burn those files to a CD.  Iirc, you can set up a "Burn Folder" in Finder, into which you can export files created from your Images, and with a single click burn your CD.
Naming the files you create by exporting your Images can be tricky.  There are _many_ possibilities.  Some things can't be done.  Sequencing can be done in a number of ways (see Léonie's answer above).  What have you tried?  What was the result?  In what way did this differ from what you expected?

  • When I export photos from Aperture, the pixel dimensions are halved thus losing data.  I have set the export preferences to export at original size, to no avail.  This happens even if I just drag to the desktop and then back, or if I export into my iphoto

When I export photos from Aperture to desktop or iphoto I lose pixels.  The pixel dimensions are halved, despite setting the export preference to export at original size.  Anyone know why or how to correct this?

Dragging an Image from Aperture exports the Preview.  Preview parameters are set on the Previews tab of Aperture preferences.
Are you seeing the same results when you export using one of the export commands?
Is so, confirm that the settings in the selected Image Export Preset ("Aperture➞Presets➞Image Export") truly represent those in the Image Export Preset's name.

  • How I can export files from CS5.5 to send for further editing in CS6 and no lose quality?

how I can export files from CS5.5 to send for further editing in CS6 and no lose quality?

If all you need for further editing is the contents of your Timeline,
then you should follow Harm's sage advice.
    Lagarith Lossless Video Codec
    http://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html
    Ut Video Codec Suite
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Ut-Video-Codec-Suite
But, if you will need all of your source media files to continue the edit,
you should consider using the Project Manager.
    Trim or copy your project
By using the Project Manager, you will be continuing the edit
with the original media files and there will be no quality loss.
Be aware that once you have edited the project in CS6,
it will be problematic (but not impossible) to return to edit in CS5.5.

  • What's the best way to export Photos from Aperture to iPhoto

    Hi,
    so heres the deal:
My father has a really old/slow mac and whenever he tries to export more than like 3 photos from aperture the computer freezes.
So to get his photos i thaught i could just copy his aperture library onto my external hd.
but will i be able to import the photos into iphoto? and i'd like to not have the originals but the edited photos.
or will i have to export the photos from aperture (e.g. with my brothers, faster mac...)

Paul, do your father and you have compatible versions of iPhoto and Aperture?  Aperture 3.3 and iPhoto 9.3 or later?
Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture
With the new, unified library architecture you can simply open an Aperture library in iPhoto - no need to import anything.
If the Aperture library is not compatible, from an older Aperture version, you can try to export the versions on your brother's mac (file > Export > Versions).
My father has a really old/slow mac and whenever he tries to export more than like 3 photos from aperture the computer freezes.
That is not normal, however old the mac is.
Either his hard drive is too full and needs freeing disk space, or he has imported corrupted images, or his Aperture library needs repairing or rebuilding.  He should try to repair his library, if he has used "force quit" on Aperture.  See: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual

  • Getting photos from Aperture to Photoshop

I've been trying to figure out how to get pictures from Aperture to Photoshop. I can't access Aperture directly and if I save a picture to the desktop, then it turns into a jpeg when I open it in Photoshop. I'l a fairly new PS user, any sugestions? And yes, my whole system has slowed down with Snow Leopard.

Thank you so much, just couldn't figured that out. Do you know how to access camera raw in photoshop? I've watched some tutorials on PS and it shows different ways to make adjustments to pictures using camera raw, but I can't figure out where on the menu it is.

  • Why can't I import photos from iPhoto to Photoshop Elements 6?

I've got Photoshop Elements 6 on my iMac desktop running OS X 10.7.4.  When I click on File>Open in PE6, my iMac Finder opens.  I then select Photos and all my iPhoto and Photo Booth files open.  But I cannot click on (well, I can click on them but nothing happens) any photo to pull it into PE6.  It seems a simple operation, but apparently not for me!  Any help getting this application to work would be sincerely appreciated!  Thank you.

You can't do it that way. The iphoto library is for iphoto's own use, and poking at from outside iphoto is the fastest way to corrupt it and lose all your photos. You have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor for iphoto and open all images from iphoto, not by using File>Open.
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, open the copies and save them, then reimport the edited photos as new files.

  • Editing a photo from iPhoto in Photoshop elements 9

I can no longer take a photo from iPhoto & edit it in Photoshop Elements 9. When I opened Photoshop Elements independently, it went to Revel, and for the past 12 hours, the bottom scroll says "Gathering User Information." There's no more information to gather! Help! Ann

Stop using the welcome screen. Go into the Applications folder and make a dock icon for the actual editor file, which is this one:
and be sure that is the one you choose as your external editor in iphoto, too, not the one below it in the list.

  • How can I get photos from iPhoto to Photoshop Elements?

I installed Photoshop Elements 10 on my new MacBook Pro because I want to do some additional editing.  I have 800 pictures that I downloaded into iPhoto before I purchased PSE.
How can I open the pictures in PSE?
The instructions on the PSE website do not seem to refer to the version of iPhoto I have (the screens and menus are different.

I used this advice and was able to open the some photos in iPhoto and edit in PSE.   I would like to save them to another file, outside iPhoto.   Is that possible?
Sure - save As istead of save - then the edited [photo will not be in iPhoto but will be where you put it
I would also like to open PSE and open the files from PSE, possible?
You can - use the open command and the media browser - look in the lower left hadn corner of the open windos under media  ==> photos  ==> iPhoto - but why use iPhoto at all if you do not want your photos in iPhoto - if you do the edits this way you will not have them in iPhoto
Perhaps I need to move the photos out of iPhoto and then open with PSE.
Again you can do that - select the photo in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export) and work on the exported photos - again
but why use iPhoto at all if you do not want your photos in iPhoto - if you do the edits this way you will not have them in iPhoto
Just now learning Mac, so I think I may still be thinking in PC.
It is not so much Mac vs PC but database photo management vs file management - the iPhoto database structure is infinantly more powerful that an file approach like you used on a PC

I like to download photos into my organizer after each session...when i do so I'm using the same card as older photos because I've not yet filled the card and have not needed to begin using a new one...the organizer then duplicates download of the photos already in organizer as well as new ones...the process continues every time i download new photos...i don't remember this happening using the PC version...Now I'm working with a MacBook...Any suggestions on how to stop duplicate downloads with an Apple?  Thanks

    Which RX100?
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
The original RX100 was first supported in Camera Raw 7.2. Elements 11 shipped with 7.1.
So try upgrading to Camera Raw 7.4 via Help > Updates in Elements.
Adobe Camera Raw 7.4 is now available for Photoshop Elements 11

I have the same issue.  Aperture 3.5 - just upgraded to Mavericks.  Export working fine until yesterday - now I can't get the dialogue box to appear - selecting export has no effect at all.

  • Exporting photos from Aperture to a windows OS and Lightroom

I exported several jpg files with exif and some IPTC data,  including my name, in the Creator field. I am using OS 10.6.8. When Lightroom, operating in a Windows environment, attempts to import the files, there are undesired quote marks on the Creator name. Everything else looks good. What's going on, and is there something I can do to eliminate the quote marks?

In Aperture select the images you want to export in the Browser,
then select File > Export > Versions from the main menu bar.
In the Export panel select an Export prset with the pixel size and file format you want, and use the file chooser to direct the exported files to a folder on the external drive.

  • Can I move existing photos from Windows to Photoshop Elements?

I am a PAO for the Civil Air Patrol and have hundreds of photos related to that activity.  I would like to be able to move some to the Elements 11 workspace I just downloaded, but cannot find a way to do that.

You can import these images in PSE11 by :-
    1) Launch application by clicking on PSE11 icon on desktop
    2) Click on Import label in top left corner
    3) Select "From Files and Folders"
    4) Now browse to location where your photographs are present
    5) Select them or select the folder and import them in PSE11
This way you can import your images in PSE11 and start using them.
