Exporting PHotoshop layered file to Illustrator. Is this possible?

I built a project within Photoshop CS2, complete with layers. But I need to export this artwork to be used in Illustrator. Can I do this? I've already tried saving the work as EPS but when it's opened in AI CS2, it displays nothing. What should I do?
- Kareem

>I've already tried saving the work as EPS...
The EPS format does not support layers in raster images, so you flattened your layers when you saved as EPS. (Open the EPS again in Photoshop and see.) Nothing Illustrator can do about that (but it should display
something).
Please read the topic "To use Photoshop artwork in Adobe Illustrator" in the Photoshop help file.

  • CS4 bringing photoshop layered files into illustrator - blending modes

    Hello.
I have a layered photoshop file that is being brought into illustrator. One layer is a drop shadow and is set to multiply within photoshop. The drop shadow is NOT an effect. It's just a plain layer of a drop shadow. When I bring it into illustrator it doesn't act as if it is set to multiply when placed over my illustrator object. I know it's easy enough to make the shadow within illustrator and set the blending mode there but I would like to know why this is not working.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Illustrator's blending math is not the same as Photoshop's -- there will be differences if you import/export layered data between the apps.

  • Unable to place Photoshop psd file in Illustrator CS3

    Hi,
    Can someone help please???
I am unable to place a Photoshop PSD file in Illustrator and be able to print the document correctly. The Illustrator file is saved as a ai file, both the document & PSD file are CMYK.
On screen the document looks fine but as soon as I have printed the document, some of file has not printed.
Do I need to have the Illustrator file as a eps file?
I used to use an old Photoshop version that had a Export Image option, which was great for something like this, but CS3 doesn't have this option.
Has anybody got any ideas what I am doing wrong?

This seems to be an Illy problem, not Photoshop. You might want to check
with the gurus there, but perhaps a few details, like what printer
you're using and a few screenshots might help.

  • Importing Photoshop layered files to Motion

I'm having issues importing Photoshop layered files to Motion. When the file appears in the viewer, text or the shapes in the Photoshop file have changed colors. It's almost like motion doesn't recognize a gradient color in the text or shape. I've tried rasterizing the layer but it didn't help. Any suggestions?

hopefully above fixed that! not to hijack, but group layer labels don't seem to imported properly into apple products. is this due to the apple-adobe wars? i am anal so all my photoshop layers are grouped with some organization, but in motion it looks like a mess. thx,

I have been sent a .pages document and would like to extract the photos included in the document as jpegs (need to edit on photoshop and put back in), is this possible? can't figure out how to do it.

I'm going to answer my own question:
    Easy steps
Locate the document in the Finder.
    Control/Right-Click on its icon.
    Select Show Package Contents
All images and embedded objects appear in ‘Data’ folder

  • Line exports as flat PSD file. Can I export as layered file? If not, Will this be introduced later?

Adobe Line app exports the bottom "imported" background and the working layer together as a flat psd file. How can I separate the imported or blank white layer and just export the working layer? Preferably I would like to export both layers in a layered psd file.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with some of the scripts. Normally this is due to the prefferences becoming corrupt. They can be trashed to see if all then works..
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776
I have also written a new script yesterday that includes adjustments layers if the exist, so that may work for you?

  • Exporting photoshop cs3 docs into Illustrator cs3

I used the pen tool to trace around the face of a coin, saved it to a transparent background png. I need to export this file to Illustrator so I can use the 3D effect to rotate it. I tried to export as ai. command and when the doc is opened in Illustator it is blank. I also tried to open the transparent gif from Illustrator itself and the doc has a white background. How can I get a Photoshop doc with a transparent background to open in Illustrator with the transparent background intact?

You can do it in several ways.  Here are a couple you can try:
    • Save it as a PSD, open it in Illustrator; or
    • Save it as a PSD and Place it in Illustrator; or

  • Can not import PhotoShop CS3 files into Illustrator CS3

Worked just fine yesterday. I can place a JPG. I typically just drag a PSD into Illustrator. I now get an error message sayng it can not read the file. I have tried placing the file and nothing happens (no messages or warnings).
I tried saving the PSD as a TIF, but no luck here either.
I have tried opening a new file and dragging various PSD files in. It seems that none of the work any longer.
    And yes I've rebooted.

I have the exact same problem. I haven't placed PSD files into Illustrator for quite a while, but I just tried it this morning and it doesn't work (just like the OP). I even opened a file about a year old, which used to work just fine, but now the PSD file doesn't appear and I can't re-import it. So it has to be some issue recently introduced.
@Galumph - I have Vista x64 and 8GB of RAM. Is there a specific issue that applies to this particular combo?

  • Link to local wmv file not working - is this possible?

I would like to launch a wmv file in the default application
(windows media player) from an AIR application. I tried just
linking to it but it doesnt do anything? Anyone know why? security
    reason maybe? thanks in advance..

    Hi,
Just linking to the file won't work. You'll have to call
navigateToURL with that file's path. This will load the file in the
    default browser.
There's no other way to launch applications from AIR
    1.0.

  • Exporting a sequence with transcoded media (is this possible?)

I'm trying to set up a workflow where I "offline" XDCAM EX footage in Premiere CS6, then export the sequence as an AAF with media transcoded to Avid DNX codec to finish in Avid DS.  Is this possible?  I know with FCP we would use Automatic Duck and it worked great.  Can anyone recommend a similar (or better) workflow in Premiere?

Oh well.  That's what I was afraid of

  • Photoshop CS2: "file not compatible with this version of Photoshop" error

So, I've been working with Photoshop for almost 20 years now, and lately I've been getting this error message on occasion (but not on every file) when I go to open a file I worked on just yesterday: "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." I just worked on it yesterday in Photoshop. The file was saved as a PSD, and when I attempt to open it through Painter IX, that program tells me that it's not a Photoshop document. Why can't I open this file anymore, and why is it giving me this error message when I don't have Norton AntiVirus installed, and my 'maximize PSD and PSB file compatibility' is set to 'always'??
Does anyone have an idea on how I can open my file? How can I get around this, and how do I prevent it from happening again?

This is the boilerplate text I use in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please
    cease and desist immediately
in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files.
Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
    Copy the
CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work. It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does
not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • When I export a PNG file on illustrator, I get random empty space along with my exported object. Is there any way I can make just my object export and nothing more?

This is an example of my problem. This icon is the sole object in this document, and is the only thing being exported here. Yet when I do export it, a random bar of white space is exported along with it. I am currently using Illustrator to design the art for a video game, meaning that this empty space plays havoc with my end product, and I have to meticulously crop anything I export. Since I do have to make hundreds of individual sprites for this, I would love to learn how to fix this problem and save myself a lot of time. So, what exactly am I doing wrong here, and how can I fix it?

    quicklite,
I believe the resulting/final size may extend just a tiny bit above a whole point/pixel (value) on the pixel grid.
You may see by Edit>Preferences>General>Use Preview Bounds (if needed), then select one of the top Reference Points in the Transform palette and look at the Y value measured in points/pixels.
If that is the case, the solution would be to get rid of that tiny bit.

  • How can I export an .PLT file from Illustrator without using any other software but Illustrator

I'm in the URGENT need of exporting a file to .PLT and no using any other software like the producer's software.

You can't. AI doesn't produce .PLT files.
