Exporting projects that reference images in other projects

Hello, all. I'm wondering if anyone out there has had luck exporting projects that reference images in another project. I've just given this a try, and I get empty images (dotted gray outlines that can't be multi-selected and can't be "managed" as referenced files, even though it knows where the original file should be).
Here's how I have things set up:
1. main project with referenced images
2. secondary project with an album that references images in the main project (secondary project shows 0 images, but album in secondary project shows N images)
I export the secondary project, and import it into another Aperture instance. All images show up as dotted outlines.
Furthermore, if I go into list view, the Activity Monitor does something bizarre. It shows the # thumbnails remaining as a moving target. See the video below for an example.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I do this sort of thing constantly and things a whole lot more complicated. It works fine on all three of my laptops and my macpro. I actually just tried to simulate the exact conditions you describe and I will tell you what happened.
1)Create new empty project in library A called "export"
2)Create new empty album in that project.
3)Dragged multiple images from different projects (all referenced) into that new album.
4)Used file->export project with the consolidate images checked. Imported that project into a new/different library.
All of the images showed up and they all showed up as managed masters as expected. So I then relocated the masters from that project and did the same thing in reverse, back to the old library. I ended up with another project called "export (1)" with all of the images referenced and having nothing to do with the original project or the original referenced masters - as expected.
I did the testing not to figure it out but to validate that nothing had changed or broken since the last update.
You are either not doing what you think you are doing or your library/library is forked - you may want to try a rebuild or just create a brand new set of libraries and try to validate that it will work with a brand new set of libraries to try to isolate the issue to 1 - your existing libraries or 2 - your installation.

  • How to Build a DC project that makes use of other Projects??

    Hi all,
I am trying to build a DC project that makes use of two other projects in my workspace, one is a java class project, the other one is a EJB project where it takes care of database access.
if i right click on the Application and use "Deploy new Archive and Run" it deploys and runs ok.
but if i right click on the DC project and use "Development Component -> Build", it gives me a lot of errors like below, as if it doesn't know where my reference projects are, but i have set them into my java build path.
Can anyone give me some advice?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, i think i m getting close.
by making my EJB project a DC project and put the public parts into my Used DC, i reduce the build errors down to 2 (from more than 10).
maybe i m not making my EJB project into DC properly
the error msg itself is related to the EJB project:

  • Moving multiple projects that reference the same one event...

After a help and advice from several of you here, and watching and rewatching some tutorials, I finally figured out how to properly move/archive projects to an external drive.  But I do have at least one question:
Say I copy a project to an external drive along with its referenced event(s).  All is well as far as that project concerned, and I want to delete both the project and the event it references from my secondary internal drive.  But I have some other versions of that same project I also want to move from the same secondary internal drive to the same external drive.  Of course, I don't want to duplicate the referenced event again.  So how do I do this?
From the tutorials, I'm guessing the best way to do this would be to duplicate the projects to the external drive.  Then, if I find I want to use them, I can open them and link them to the same event on the external drive.
Is that the best way to do this?  I don't guess there's any way to move several projects that all reference one event to an external drive in a way that automatically links them to that event on the new drive?

    Hi Russ--
Thanks for the link to the tutorial.  I'll definitely watch it.  It's actually by the same people that did the tutorials I'm using, but it might have some new information or help reinforce things.
My particular problem was moving over the other project files to go with the event that I already moved.  I didn't know how to link them to that newly-created event on the new drive, but, it turns out it's pretty automatic as long as the event has the same name.

  • JDeveloper reference schemas in other projects

    Hello,
I have an application with various SOA projects in it.
I am defining a Web Service entry point in the composite in one of my projects and I would like to reference an XSD schema defined in another project, how do I go about doing that?
    Thanks,
    Alessandro Ferrucci

OK, Right after sending this message I was able to figure out ONE way of doing it.
Basically what I did was go into my project (the one I'm creating the composite in) and right click on the project name, select project properties, select "Project Source Paths" and I added the path to the XSD directory of the project that holds the XSDs.
    Thanks,
    Alessandro Ferrucci

  • I created project save as image but final project doesnt show up anywhere

i stayed up literally all night working on a christmas slide show project
i already saved it as an image file once
woke up and stated it was complete
    great
    went to burn it
however its not anywhere on my computer
stated if finished in 48 minutes
    ok where is it
not where i selected it to save
    this is odd
i have done this before no problem
    other than beginners bad luck
the think is i am saving it now
and my hard drive light is flashing
set it save to a folder
    however its not there
    disc space is being used
    and on my last one
    disc space was taken
    yet its not there
i did a search on my computer for it
    the title
    even did a .img search
    nothing
ok its doing all the work
    where exactly is it going?
i save it as an image
    burn thru external hard drive
    as i said before
    it stated complete
ok where was it completed to?

If you haven't done any other projects in iDVD, open it and Save As Disc Image again -- but before you click Okay, look to see where iDVD wants to store the file -- chances are that's where the others are stored.

  • IMovie '11 How do I recover a project that appears within the IMovie Projects folder but does not show in the Project Library?

I have had my MBP for just over 3 months now!  Yes, I made the switch and up until now I have been quite happy.
I now have my Time Capsule, Apple TV running and am generally getting used to life as a Mac user.............even bought Aperture and loaded all the family photos.  Now time to make some Travel movies.
I have been working on a particular IMovie project for a few weeks now.  Size is 365MB.  Yesterday I closed IMovie and when accessing later that project is not available in the Project Library window.  It does appear in the IMovie Projects folder but I cannot open it.  I have copied the file to DVD just in case.  All up I have 4 Projects, the other 3 are practice files, smaller but they do appear in the Project Library.
I have scoured the bulletin boards and tried many suggested fixes to no avail.  Main suggestion was to remove the following files from Library/Preferences
    com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
    com.apple.iApps.plist
However, this did not sort out my problem.  In the end I put back the original files.
Does anyone have a straightforward fix for my problem or is this one of those ongoing issues that that needs Apple's attention.
After all the file is there with the others.  They are available.
I realise that I can restore from Time Capsule but I am missing the last three days thanks to 'drop out'.
    Thanks.......

Yes, considering we have an ongoing 'glich' within an Apple program with no obvious solution, we should be able to direct it straight to an Apple rep.  I will peruse this possibility when I get a moment.
You can report the problem by providing feedback to Apple. In the iMovie app, from the menu select iMovie > Provide iMovie Feedback. This will take you to an Apple page where you can complete a form and submit it to Apple.
The fix for this will probably turn out to be simple/easy.....................so why doesn't Apple comment and/or address it????
Other than the forum moderators, Apple doesn't normally monitor these forums, nor make comments on posts. So, it's up to us to report the problem to them directly (using the feedback form mentioned above).
As the problem has affected me just the one time (touch wood), I haven't bothered to report it as yet. But, after seeing your posts on this, I'm now reconsidering that. Something must be triggering it. My system is in pretty good shape, so I'm guessing it must be a glitch of some sort, either in Mountain Lion or in the iMovie app itself. Perhaps it's a 3rd party app causing the problem? It doesn't give us much confidence now, in that we may start worrying about losing other projects.
A good practice is to duplicate the project from time to time (something I'll be doing more of), although Time Machine backups also provide the necessary security. To duplicate, in Project Library view (where all the projects are listed) click on the project name so that it is highlighted, then select File > Duplicate Project. Alternatively, right-click (or Control-click) on the project name and select Duplicate Project from the pop-up menu. Of course, you may already know this. Duplicating probably won't guarantee that the copy will not also disappear from the Project Library, but is worth doing anyway.
As I mentioned in the post I linked to earlier, when the problem arose with my iMovie project I was using ProRes 422 clips I had imported from a Final Cut Pro X Event. My immediate thought was that ProRes 422 had caused the problem. But this of course may have been coincidental - reinforced now by your experience, where you are probably working with Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) clips.
Anyway, glad to hear that you've recovered your project through Time Machine. Unfortunately, I had to start from scratch as I had Time Machine turned off during my editing sessions (that's a story for another day).

  • How do I get back an imovie project that shows up in the Project library but doesn't show up in imovie itself?

Worked on an i-Movie project yesterday but when opened i-Movie this morning, the project showed a date of January 13 as last modified date and the project was completely empty.  When I look in Project Library, I can see the project from yesterday. How do I get it back into my i-Movie so it will open.  Thanks.

    Hi Rour and vc38,
A number of others here have posted about this problem, including me. See the following threads:

It's best to report this to Apple, as the more they hear from us the more likely we'll get a fix (hopefully). There is probably a common issue with this, but I'm struggling to think of what may have triggered the problem. Was it a "recent" update to iMovie or OS X Mountain Lion, or perhaps another updated app conflicting with iMovie?
To report the problem to Apple, in iMovie's menu click on iMovie > Provide iMovie Feedback.

  • How can i copy multiple projects that reference one event without having to duplicate the event over and over for each project?

Each project has compound and regular media in them, and every time i attempt to duplicate the projects and have them reference one event on the new drive the rest of my media shows up missing and will not reconect. Wondering if anyone has had to tackle this problem. I have a limited amount of space on my Drobo thunderbolt drives and need to optomize it. Thank you

So i called apple and after a few hours on the phone and them taking control of my computer they pretty much told me they had never seen this before and were sorry they couldnt assist in any way. The long explination is that i work for a company that films their footage in one long take and then sends it to me to cut into segments, i then have to copy these small edits which are all in different projects and the one large event over to a new hard drive to give to a guy to put titles on and then send back to the company. when i do this copy of project final cut X forces me to also duplicate the event leaving me with "event" (fcp1) and so on depending on how many projects there are. When i dont duplicate event and project together the whole project shows up as missing media and final cut X does not recognize that the original footage is being lost and therefor i am not even given the oportunity to reconect media. I have tried all conventional ways of copying and transfering and have an extensive background in editing and have never come across this, but then again this is final cut X and something that i try and stray away from if i have a choice in systems.
to answer Tony im using copy project and event because it is the only option that works (copy project and used media works as well but only creates more confusion with having to rename files) I would prefer to be able to just copy the first project and event and then be able to source the rest of the project files from the first event i copied over.

  • Updating projects with activities linked to other projects.

Im kind of new at this. I am working on a project with several contracts. i am thinking of setting up each contract as a separate project in an EPS and linking the milestones in all the projects to create a master schedule. On a weekly basis i recieve schedule updates from the contractors. What im wondering is if there is a way i can copy the new schedule in with all the updates without having to re-link all the activities everytime I get an updated schedule? also is this the best way to create a master schedule?

    *794503,*
It sounds like your sub projects (contracts) are in sort of a design on the go mode?
To make things a little more manageable I would suggest that you establish a set of standard start and finish milestones for each project in order for you to be able to ensure that your master project major milestones (hopefully integrated with your cost or earned value milestones) remain logically tied to those designated sub project milestones.
With that said, I would just paste the new edition of each contract's schedule into their respective projects. I would make an export (.XER) backup before pasting any new data. It's better to be safe than sorry!
Be mindful of the fact that you probably need to make sure that the logic ties gets pasted by not clicking the box (Relationships / Only between copied activities) on the "Copy Act. Options" dialog box. Otherwise, you'll have to manually tie all of the logic again. A royal pain in the "A" double "S"!!
**Use a copy of the latest project/contract schedule update and as a baseline. Format your bars to also display that baseline schedule on row #2. Also insert a schedule variance column to display date changes between your original vs. newly updated schedule. For analysis of changes.....maybe build a new layout and filter to only display those act's that have major date changes (sched. variances)?
**Another tool to use after the fact would be *"Claim Digger"* in order to analyze the details of what changes were made with each new schedule update.
There is no way to eliminate all of the manual work. :(    Some manual verification will always have to be performed.
It would be very smart to get a good grip on how you'll handle these changes early in the project before the situation gets out of hand.
For every "schedule change" made to your schedule the chance of a scheduling error increases. So there you go.
Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

Shouldn't really be the MPE at fault here ... what is the codec of the footage/sequence/project?
Second, can you create a new project in PrPro, then in the media browser, import that sequence from the other project?

  • Open Other Project - Does Not Function

    Hello -
We are finishing a CBT lesson in Cap 3 which includes 29
seperate projects. At the end of each project the student is
presented a button to take them to the next project, i.e. "Open
    Other Project".
Here lies the issue, we have set this button to "Open other
project" and "Open URL or file". In both case the next project does
not open. The user is taken to an internet search page. We set up
the button "On Success" feature using the Captivate Help files
where it instructs you to remove all of the system paths and just
use the project or file names. Also confirmed button settings in
    Advanced Interaction.
We are publishing our projects in .exe formats. This isuue is
present when we preview it using the preview feature and from the
    .exe products.
What are we doing wrong, any ideas?

    Hi again
I just conducted a brief test using a Button object and the
exact file names you listed. Things worked as expected on my end.
This is actually good news, as it suggests Captivate 3 isn't to
blame. Instead, something is wonky with your project(s).
One thing that strikes me here is that you say you are seeing
a Web Browser open. This suggests your button is programmed to
"Open URL or File" and not "Open other project". You may wish to
double check that. If you examine it and it already says "Open
other project", you may wish to delete that button and insert a new
one. Maybe somehow it became corrupt and is retaining the Open URL
or File setting and not respecting the Open other project setting.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How can I open a project that has been created with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration software, on my trial version of Premier Pro CC?

    Hi,
I'm working with a colleague who is using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration software on his PC version of Premier Pro CC. I am using a mac and have a trial version of Premier Pro CC. When I try to open a project file that he has sent me I get an error message-
"Missing renderer: This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA), which is either not available or not certified on this system. Mercury Playback Engine Software Only will be used."
When I click OK and locate the files I get a message saying "File format not supported".
Can anyone tell me what to do so that we can share project files?
    Many thanks,
    Jessie

  • Export-Unable to export more than 5 images.

I have LR 5.3 and everything has been working fine. Now I cannot export more that 5 images even though I have checked my registration number and it is correct.I am using Windows 7, 64 bit.

    I get an error message,
"Warning - Unable to Export. This version can only export up to 5 files. Please consider a donation in order to download the unrestricted version."
I did not know that LR accepted donations, however, I did purchase the full product in November and have double checked that Serial Number is still properly entered. Like I said, everything was working fine, now I am limited to exporting 5 files.

  • Exporting projects with referenced images

I want to import referenced images from an external hard drive, edit them and then export the project in order to archive it. Is this something that I can do now? Will I end up with a bunch of referenced previews in my library and an exported project that can link back up to the master images that are on a separate hard drive?
    Antonio

No, this only exports a "copy" of your projects and does not remove the master image. It is still in the Aperture Library. I am also trying to find an easy way to move the entire project outside of the library and still maintain a reference link to wherever I move the images to. Any thoughts?

  • Problems with exporting project incorporating still images

I'm using iMovie 11 with Snow Leopard in my iMac. I've made a movie incorporating nonHD footage and requiring 4:3 aspect ratio. The project also includes still pictures that introduce the old movie footage itself. I find I can get better overall quality exporting the completed project as a QuickTime movie rather than sending it directly to iDVD or using the "Export movie..." option. However, when I export as a Quick Time movie, although the old movie footage itself shows up exactly the way it should, the aspect ratio of the still pictures preceding the old movie footage has changed. When I use the "Find Info" option I notice the dimensions for the Quick Time movie are shown as 480 x 720 while the dimensions for the version I shared using "Export movie..." option are 480 x 640. I'm imagining this has something to do with the changed aspect ratio of the still photographs, although I should say that the movie that follows the introduction using the still pictures appears identical in both options. I would like to retain the quality of the "Export as Quick Time movie..." option while retaining the proper aspect ratio of the still pictures. When I run the project in the project browser, the still imagery looks fine; it's only when it's exported as a Quick Time movie that the aspect ration changes. Thank you.

What you might want to try is to set the cropping attribute in iMovie for those pictures to the 'Fit' option. To do that on a single image, click on the gear icon in the Project Browser for that picture and choose 'Cropping, Ken Burns and Rotation'. In the Preview window there's 3 buttons that allow you to set how the pictures are displayed. Fit|Crop|Ken Burns. in order to maintain the aspect ratio of the videos versus the pictures set the button to 'Fit' and see if it looks different in the final output to QuickTime. Fit will add black bars to the sides or top of the image to match the aspect ratio of the whole video. The other option, Crop, will cut off the sides or tops as needed to fill the whole video frame with the picture (no black spacer bars necessary).
Double-check your iMovie Project settings under the File Menu > Project Properties and make sure your aspect ratio is reflected there properly. Also make sure your QuickTime export settings indicate a frame size that is in the 4:3 ratio (as opposed to the 720x480 closer to 3:2).
