Exporting to a mpeg file, or a DVD format ??? questions around this:)

Hi friends
May I ask a silly question?
I wonder, when i have finished editing the movie, audio, effects, and all of that. When I am VERY satisfied with the result ( do you know the feeling )
OK, everything is on my timeline, and I press Ctrl + M. I choose MPEG2, and I get a file that I put on my desktop. From my desktop I burn it with Windows DVD Maker, choosing to make a dvd in this program.
Here is my question: Do I have to use another then PRpro for making an DVD formated DVD disk?
Is it the same to burn a DVD file on a plate, then burn a DVD formated plate?
And then, why cant prememiere do this?
I use the Que in media encoder, but that does not make any different...
Help me to understand this, please.

Thanks for getting back to me so fast, and knowing exactly what I ask for .
So what I have learned is: Windows DVD maker is a program that does the same thing as encore, but of course a smaller program.I have made menues in encore, but I did not know that it also made proper DVD files. Is it easyer from DVDmaker (if no chapter)? (it took me about 6-7 hours burning in W DVDmaker for 1 hours movie)
One more thing, please. I also try to burn from PRpro using the "Match the sequens setting" button. ( I use an AVCHD 1080i setting, square pixel, Frame size: 1920 x 1080) Is this compatible with DVD burning?
Is it right to choose this setting when burning? The reason I choose "Match the sequens setting", is because I get a larger file (twice as big), then in MPEG mode. I am then thinking... bigger file, better picture quality on TV. (?)
When I sit here now, I try to make dynemic link to encore. It is ok, but Encore tells me that the Transcode settings are 720X 480 (in new project window in startup encore). This is not an HD setting, and is not an 1920 x 1080 like I have in premiere Pro.

DVDSP export as a mpeg file

My company is doing a Prezi presentation online and they
want to drop audio/video into the program.
NP we've figured that out.
But they also to put an interactive menu
with 3 or 4 choices on that menu into the Prezi.
I created a quick test in DVDSP with a menu and tried
to export mpeg and mpeg won't highlight for me to do it.
So first, can you export from DVDSP an mpeg file and if
I could would the menu carry over and be interactive in Prezi
or does the menu only work on a DVD.

Create a new MPEG-2 Setting so you see it in the preset bin
Double click on it and set to PAL in video format tab PG 130 PDF for picture

Using H.264 to export to create mpeg file?

When I want to burn a FCP project to DVD SP I export it to Compressor and then choose the "DVD Best quality 120 (or 90) minutes" setting.
But, when I export for the web I use H.264 compression which gives me really good results.
Is there anyway of creating an MPEG file to be used in DVD SP which uses H.264 compression quality?

DVD format question

I am preparing some patient education information for
distribution on DVD. Some of the content will be self-paced
interactive designed with Director, and some of the material will
be in the form of a 15 minute linear video program. My preference
would be to distribute both types of content on one DVD so that the
linear video program will be accessible on a conventional home DVD
player, and the interactive material will be accessible on a
computer. Is it possible for both types of material to work on a

Yes, I created a folder called DVD and then inserted the
Video_TS folder in that
folder. So, kept the directory structure of your standard DVD
except the placing
everything one folder down rather than from the root level of
the DVD.
I tested this on a few DVD players and did not experience any
problems with the
files being played on a TV. But, I did test it on relatively
new DVD players. So,
my testing was not extensive. The product was mass produced
and I have not had
anyone report a problem. Very old DVD players may have a
problem but DVD players
today can locate JPGs, MP3s and a range of media types at any
level. So I would not
think they'd have problem locating the VOBs. Anyway, that's
just my experience and

PSE 9 cannot export camera raw edited files to a jpeg format. Only available save as formats are photoshop and tiff.

In PSE 9 I am currently unable to save files that have been edited in camera raw as jpeg files. When I try to export the file using 'save as' the only listed options are versions of photoshop file formats and tiff - jpeg is not listed. I did not have this problem previously when using Nikon D3000 camera. I now use a Nikon D7100. I have installed the 6.5 Camera Raw update but this has not solved the problem. I would appreciate any suggestions for resolving this.

You have a 16-bit image and jpeg is an 8 bit format. You can set the raw converter to export as 8 bit by using the pulldown menu below the preview area, or you can just go to Image>Mode>8 bits/channel in the editor.

DVD Formatting questions

Hey there!
So here is the deal: I've edited a movie in 1080p in Final Cut Pro X. I've exported a Apple ProRes HQ version of my film with Compressor 4, and burned it. The problem is, as I'm sure you already know, that the quality *****. The gorgeous footage we took looks washed out and grainy.
I know full well that DVDs do not support HD. But when you go buy a DVD in the store, the quality is fantastic. What am I doing wrong? I have the CS5 suite with Adobe Encore if I need to use it. I know there is a way to make my footage look awesome on a DVD, I just don't have any idea how!
I know this isn't a Compressor question specifically, but I really have no clue where else to ask the question. I know the big studios have huge budgets to make their DVDs look amazing, but as far as I'm aware, they are using Adobe Encore or DVD Studio Pro to design the DVDs, and programs similar (if not exactly) to Compressor. What settings should I be using to make my footage look good?
Any help would be absolutely amazing. Thanks!

Encore DVD 2.0 Forces Transcoding on Spec MPEG Files

Since I have upgraded to Encore DVD 2.0 it insists on transcoding many of the MPEG files. The file are 720x480 NTSC and within the MPEG specs. Also the file is marked a do not transcode in the project view.
In fact if I use Encore DVD 1.5 and load the same MPEG file and create an identical project it does NOT transcode the MPEGS files.
Encore DVD 2.0 also freezes on occasion when you preview the project. Again Encore DVD 1.5 does not have that issue with the same files.
Please let me know how to correct this problem.

The files are from DVDs I have previously created and new material. so a verity of applications. But the key here is they work perfectly with Encore DVD 1.5, and some of them were from DVD created with Encore DVD 1.0 they must have worked with with it as well.

If you want to use iDVD, you have to first convert them to a QT format that iDVD understands. I'd suggest DVDxDV or MPEGStreamclip, both of which require the Apple MEPG2 Playback component. Or ExportToQT (MPEG2Works), which also requires QT Pro. After conversion to DV or other QT formats, iDVD can burn a DVD for you.
A better option might be MPEG2Works or ffmpegX, which can convert mpeg2files without re-encoding to DVD img files.

Without seeing your movie, its difficult to tell where the
problem may be. My first guess is that the data rate is to high.
You will probably need to choke that back in some way: lower the
data rate for the compressor, reduce the frame rate, reduce the
image size, reduce the color depth, etc.
When you select to export to QT, for example, a new window
opens to let you select some basic settings. At the lower right of
that window is a button titled "Quicktime Settings...". Click that
button and a new window will open that will allow you to set the
compressor, frame rate, quality, etc.

Use Disk Utility to restore the DMG to a blank partition, then use the Startup Disk preferences pane to reboot from that partition. Why not just install from the DVD, though?

How do you export LabVIEW SignalExpress Log files into MatLab?

I am using SignalExpress to capture vibration and acoustic data. I need to show the results to a customer that doens't have access to LabVIEW. They have Matlab, so I need to find a way to export the SignalExpress log file into a usable format that I can import into Matlab.

SignalExpress log files are in TDMS format. You also have the option to convert your log to text when you finish it. So you have two options:
Send the original TDMS log and have your colleague use the MATLAB plugin which allows reading of TDMS files.
Convert the log to text and send the text files.
The first option is probably your best bet, since it will result in smaller files. Let us know if you run into issues.
