Exporting to PDF - incorrect alignment of text boxes

I am exporting reports to PDF format, but they are consistently different to how they look in Crystal Reports. I am having to "mis align" text boxes in crystal to ensure they line up when exported to PDF format - it is taking hours and is a hopelessly inefficient way to design a report. I have seen previous posts relating to this issue, but can't seem to find any solution. Can any-one help me?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Marita,
Which Crystal Reports version are you using?
Have you applied any service pack for Crystal Reports?
Which operating system are you using?
Try with this:
Go to the following registry sub key:
HKEY_USERS\[your security profile]\Software\Crystal Decisions\10.2\Crystal Reports\Export\Pdf
Right-click the sub key and click New > DWORD Value. Name the DWORD value "ForceLargerFonts" and set it to the value of 1.

how do you create aligned interactive text boxs in a PDF with the same width and height?
Without free hand creating the sizing?

Assuming by "interactive text boxes" you mean form fields; in Acrobat, make a form field, then copy it and paste. (GIve the pasted copy a different name so they don't genetate the same field feedback.) Now you have two fields of the exact same size. Shift-click or marquee-drag to select both, then right-click and choose a command from the Align, Distribute or Center menu.

  • Table goes out of alignment in text box

I have created a very simple table in InDesign CS5 on Windows 7, like this:
However when you start typing into a cell, it goes like this:
To fix it up you have to make the text box slightly bigger or smaller then resize back to what it's supposed to be. Also when I do a datamerge the first page shifts like this too, although the rest are correct. When you export to PDF it comes out wrong as well. If someone wants a sample file I can post it on here.
Anyone have any ideas what is causing the alignment to change when text is entered into the table?

Okay, I think I see where the problem lies - though you had me stumped for a moment there!
So I see that you have the text box that contains your table assisting you in aligning your table to the center of your page. (i.e. the text box container is arranged around the outside of the page and the table is centered lef/right using paragraph centering and top/bottom using "align center"command from the control bar. While there's nothing particularly wrong with that method, I think it may be the source of your trouble with the alignment changing unexpectedly.
When looking at your file, I found that removing the "align center" and changing instead to "align top" took away the jumpy behavior of the text box. It no longer shifted when I tried to type. It does however move the whole table to the top of the screen. For the moment let's leave it there. Align to Page: center l to r, center t to b.
Your end result should be an item that is still perfectly centered on the page, but that can be type into without any unpredictable jumping around!
Now, let's select the whole text box that contains the table. Click "Left Justify" in the Paragraphs panel. This will move the table to the top left of your document. Now, fit frame to content. Go to the align panel,

  • Existing letters disappear in pdf when I add text box

So I get letters in existing text disappearing as soon as I type anything in a new text box. I have acrobat XI pro running on windows 8.1.
My pdf document looks fine. All the text is there that's suppose to be there. I need to add text boxes on certain pages so I click on 'add text', I click on any area in my document and the text box appears. As soon as I type anything at all 'random' letters disappear throughout my document. I say random because it's an l here, an e there, etc but it's the same letters from the same words that disappear every time. A month ago I was working on the same document doing the exact same thing and had no trouble adding text without having letters disappearing.
I've been playing around with it for several hours now and am ready to punch a hole through the wall.
    Any ideas?

Thanks for 'all' the help (I kid, of course) but I figured it out on my own.
Tried many, many things and what worked in the end was increasing the dpi of the pdf when it was first created. I had it set to 300dpi which was the same default setting for all the other documents I created and manipulated with no problem but for whatever reason it doesn't work now. I tried it at 600dpi and it's fine. All the letters stay put when I add new text boxes. Probably other dpi settings would work also but I haven't tried.

  • Is there a way to annotate a PDF by adding a text box any where on the screen rather than having to click on the text box Icon each time? It was like this before I downloaded Yosemite.

I use the Preview app to annotate my notes for class. It use to be where I could add text where ever I wanted on the screen just by double clicking. Now since I downloaded Yosemite I have to click on the text box icon at the top each time and it adds the text box in the middle and I have to move it to where I want it. This is very inconvenient for class. Any suggestions on how to get the old preview back or fix this problem?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • When exported to pdf, I lost random text and pictures

    Hi,
This is the first time I've used InDesign, and I have experienced a pretty big problem the night before I'm to send it to print.
I'm using CS5 and when I went to export it, I chose some simple options I read
    Standard - PDF/X-4:2008
    Compatibility - Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4)
I made a couple more adjustments and when it went to a pdf, there are 4 pages missing a couple pictures and a few pages of font.
I couldn't figure it out, so I decided to just pull my fonts and pictures and try again but it won't let me.
It shows all the font layers and the pictures, but you can't see anything or select them. The confusing thing is that in one circumstance, half the article is gone. I tried to delete the font layers, and pull it down again from the previous page, but it won't work either, it gives me an error of over set text.
Does anyone know what in the world happened? It was ready for print one minute after months of work, then, kablooey!!
when it was finished exporting it gave me an error that stated something about 1 error with background
    Can anyone help me?

Sounds like you are having trouble withthe background export (new to CS5, and a little buggy inthe initial release). Have you updated to 7.0.4? If not, do that and try again, then post back with the result.

  • My text boxes shift when exporting to PDF

I'm having an odd problem. I'm using a file that I've created and whenever I export my INDD file to PDF, some of my text boxes shift and rotate.
As you can see in the example below, my "language" box gets rotated 90º and pushed slightly left and off the page.
I've never encountered this problem before. Also, if I reorder the layers, other text boxes will end up moving. I've even tried inserting blank frames into the document with no success.
I'm not getting any errors from the program either.
    Please advise!

OK, overridding would have been the first suggestion, so we'll move on. Are you patched to 7.0.4? If not, try that first, and if there's still a problem, try exporting to .idml. See Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • How do I center align the text in my text boxes if they are currently right aligned?

I created a client questionnaire in Word and then turn it into a PDF and created the text boxes necessary. The problem I am having in Adobe XI Pro is that I want all of the text in my text boxes to be centrally aligned rather than left aligned. However, when creating and editing the text boxes, I see no option to help me do so. When clients fill out the form it looks messy because the information that the fill in tables in not centrally aligned, so it makes my tables look poorly organised. Help would be much appreciated, thank you.

In Form Edit mode, right-click the field(s) and select Properties - Options, and under Alignment select "Center".

  • Export to .pdf produces block characters for text

I am using Crystal Reports 2008 version 12.2.0.290 with service pack 3 installed.  The format of my reports is exporting to .pdf format; but all text appears like hexadecimal block type characters.  The report is also very dim, low contrast.  This happens at all times, whether using the report is an app or exporting it from the Crystal Reports designer.

    That's weird...
The blocks are due to the viewer not being able to find the font defined in the report when viewed.
Try changing the font to MS Ariel Unicode and see if that works. Only other possible issue is you are using Licensed fonts, CR will not embed those into a PDF.
Also need to know what language you are using and what font type? Make sure you don't use the fonts listed in CR Designer that begin with "@" sign, they are for text rotation and have been known to cause problems when exporting.
    Thanks again

  • Values from listbox to appear as a list in a text box.

I am using Acrobat X to create a PDF form. I have a listbox where multiple selections can be made and need these export values to appear in a text box as a list with one value per line. I have managed to get the values to appear in the text box, however they are appearing in a continuous line separated by a comma. I have very little knowledge of Java Script and would appreciate any assistance.

A better option is to use this code (the reason it's better is because one of the values can contain a comma, and then it will be split with the code above):
    var v = this.getField("Awards").value;
    if (typeof v == "string") event.value = v;
    else event.value = v.join("\r");

  • Export to PDF causes blacks to go grey.

    Hello,
I have been dealing with an issue involving the way InDesign exports to PDF.  In images and boxes drawn in InDesign the black value is being reduced to 95% while the text remains full black.  I thought it was a printer issue but I looked more carefully at the PDF and sure enough it's in the image I outputted to PDF format.  How would it be possible that the blacks in images and drawn boxes could loose the 100% black but not the text?  Do I have a bad install or just a setting misplaced?
I am running CS5.5 with all the latest updates on a brand new Mac Book Pro.
    Thanks,
    Brett

It's too bad this is such a convoluted process.
I don't see any problem with 1-bit black or text black with a CMYK Transparency Blend Space, either in InDesign's Separation Preview or in Acrobat's Output Preview after exporting via the PDF/X-4 preset. In all cases output reads as 0|0|0|100 CMYK, which is what you would want and expect going to  press
A placed all black 1-bit psd in ID
    Exported to PDF/X-4
Are you outputting separations or to a composite printer? If composite  is your Print>Output>Color, Composite Gray or Composite CMYK?

  • SSRS export to PDF errors out with one specific data set

I have a SSRS report that fails to export to a PDF file with a particular set of data.  The PDF export works great with every other set of data  that we have run through it. The suspect report/data can be viewed fine and exported to other formats
    without issues.
It almost appears that the PDF export has issues with how the data falls on the page.  If I change the top/bottom margin size, increase the length of the report by adding whitespace or increase/decrease the size of the header/footer, the report will

    Hi GravityJunky,
Based on the error message, the object reference is not set to an instance, it is typically caused by one or more of the following reasons:
There are soft page breaks within empty lists in the report.
There are hidden groups within the report and you tried to export it to PDF.
There are text boxes with a width and/or height of zero in the report.
A text box is either hidden or the NoRows property is set to true.
A text box spans table cells where some cells have a collection of null values.
The report has static columns and/or rows and, in the Visibility properties, Hidden is set to true.
The report has static columns and/or rows and there are grand totals in the report.
The report has static column headings and, in the Visibility properties, Hidden is set to true.
The matrix report has multiple columns and rows and, in the Visibility properties, Hidden is set to true and you tried to export to PDF.
To troubleshoot the problem, please refer to the following steps:
Review the specific error contained within the message and then, depending on the message, review your report.
If the problem is related to soft page break issues, try increasing the page height, reducing the first row height, or reducing the number of header rows.
If the problem is related to errors when rounding the image size up or down, try slightly increasing the page header height so that it is different than the image height, or try changing the image size to fit better.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
    Thanks,
    Wendy Fu

  • Text Box Inset Guides

InDesign CS4 does't seem to show Text Box Inset margins as guides when text box is selected just once with Selection Tool (i.e not dble-clicked to edit text). The Inset values can be discerned through opening up Text Frame Options dialogue box, but within CS2 they would be viewable as guides (which helped with exact alignment) when Text Box was selected once. Note: when Text Box is dragged to new position they appear momentarily whilst being dragged - not much use! Any help much appreciated.

    Ok
I made a text frame there. I put insets of 5mm in there.
I can see the insets. But when i go to the type tool the inset preview disappears.
I ctrl click to move the frame and they temporarily appear. But once the type tool is active in the frame the inset preview is gone.

  • Acrobat Pro 9, blank lines in text boxes vanish upon save

    Folks,
Since I upgraded from Acrobat Pro 8 to 9, whenever I put blank lines in a text box, the blank lines disappear as soon as the PDF is saved.
    Here's an example:
    - Open a PDF file
    - Click on text box tool in the toolbar (or from menu Comments->Comments and markup Tool->Text box tool
    - Draw a box on the PDF page somewhere
    - Enter "First line", then hit Return twice to add a blank line below, enter "Second line"
    - Right now my text box contains two lines of text separated by a blank line
    - Hit save
    - Blank line vanishes in the text box. Now the two text lines are on adjacent rows.
This did not happen in either Acrobat Pro 7 or 8. I've been using textboxes consistently for years without this silly behavior.
Any suggestions? I've looked through forums and knowledge bases and such to no avail.
I have acrobat pro version 9.0.0 running on XPSP3.
    Thanks!
