Exporting Using Expert Settings Problem

When I try exporting using expert settings, which is pretty much necessary, any video that I export, in just about any format, but usually .mov or .mp4 looks very strange. Any moving objects appear to be broken up by horizontal lines. I do not know much about these sorts of issues, but I'm guessing it's a problem with the frame rate. I've tried just about every frame rate and nothing seems to work. Thanks for your help!
P.S. Same thing happens when exporting from iMovie!

It means the timeline settings. If your project is DV, then it will export a DV quality file. If your settings are Offline RT, it will export an offline RT formatted Quicktime...if they are 8-bit uncompressed, an 8-bit uncompressed QT...etc. And the same frame rate as well, 23.98, 29.97 and so on.
It basically means that no further compression is occurring.

  • Issue with Exporting/Sharing File using expert settings

    I have a two-part question.
First off, I am no 'expert', but to me the two best viewing options to save a movie that are 'standard' for quicktime are too disparate to work for me - the first option is too small (quality is too low) and the HD viewing option is too large (the file size is rediculous). I'm trying to save somewhere between these two sies/qualities. I'm attempting to do this by using the expert settings function.
The issue is this - after I set up the size and quality the compression does not even start. I am attempting to save to a folder other than the regular movie folder, but have not removed it or changed that folder at all. I have saved files using the standard setup included, but for some reason after changing the settings, the movie will not begin to save. Any thoughts on this?

Actually - upon further thought, I should mention that files I am playing with are quite large. The IMovie files is generally around 1-2 gigs.
So maybe the files are so large and its eatting too big a chunk of memory/space to complete the process this way? If so is there still some way to save a file using expert settings?

  • Converting HDV video to Quicktime using expert settings?

I use Imovie HD and have a Sony HDR HC1. I like to make short vid about 3-5mins long and post them on Youtube. As you know 100m is the max. I have tried to post over that, and it won't go.
Now when I share, I select CD-rom quality which make the movie about 30mb or so.
Question: Using the expert settings, how to I get the file to wind up at about 90-100mb for max Youtube rez??
My last attempt was using Mpeg4, (1920xsomething-widescreen) with the qualitiy setting at Least. Still came out at 175mb. Close, but I need to ne below a 100mb.
    Any tips is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    you should avoid both...
"my" settings are the final settings of youtube (aside the codec, which is a special kind of flv..)
so, you should add letterboxes to to your widescreens (afaik, youtube doesn't offer widescreen res)
and youtube delivers in 30/15fps.. .24 is .. an "uneven" factor ....

  • Exporting using "Current Settings"

What exactly does "Current Settings" mean? Are these the sequence settings I have or the RT settings or something else?
Simple, I know, but I just want to be sure.

  • Why can't I 'Export Using Compressor Settings' in FCPX?

It keeps telling me I have to buy Compressor, which I did from the App Store.

Can you run Compressor from your applicaitons folder on the dock bar? Just trying to make sure you really got it installed after the download or maybe it had been aborted before completing the installation.  It will run as a stand alone app if installed ok. After you confirm that you can look for other potential problems.

  • Trying to share movie with "Expert Settings" - nothing happens (help?)

When trying to "share" (export) my movie, if I select the "Expert Settings" option, nothing happens. That is, if I select "Expert Settings" and click "Share", then a dialogue window displays briefly and disappears, and the main iMovie window returns.
I'm running iMovie 4.01 on Jaguar. I tried deleting my iMovie prefs and the ~/Library/iMovie files, didn't help.
My iMovie project was previously corrupted somehow, I started a new project and imported the old ".mov" file to try to salvage it. This seems to have worked somewhat (I can play the movie and I can export it in some formats). But I can't use expert settings.
    Help?
    Neal

    Two things you might consider:
    - QuickTime export may fail if the ~/Movies folder is missing. Re-create that folder if that is the case.
    - iMovie 2.1.1 can't export to QuickTime if Roxio Toast Titanium 5.0.1-5.1.1's Toast Video CD Export 1.0 is in iMovie's Resources:Plugins: folder. Toast Titanium 5.1.2 installs Toast Video CD Export 1.4 which fixes this. With new Toast versions this is not an issue.

  • The quality of the footage is lost when I use certain settings in Premiere Pro CS6

    Hello ,
I filmed footage on a Canon XA10. They are MTS files and the codecs are 1440x 1080, frame rate 29.97, H264- MPEG- 4AVC, input nitrate 9854, and stream nitrate is 8971
I need to submit them as application samples for a job. The job requires certain settings to be used.
    for HD 1080i  the application sample should be 960 x 540 @ 29.97
they have other settings, like NTSC should be 320 x 243 @ 29.97
With one file I filmed rain and in the original file it's clear and the quality it really good. I export using the settings H.264 and Apple TV, iPad, iPhone 4 or newer - 960 x 540 29.97
    under basic video settings is
        width 960
        height 540
    frame rate 29.97
After exporting it the .mp4 file came out pixelated and the image quality is much lower.
I had another problem with a file shot with the same camera and the same codecs  (MTS files and the codecs are 1440x 1080, frame rate 29.97 ect.)
It was footage that I had to speed up, after exporting it came out shaky. When I export with the 1440 x 1080 settings it's not shaky, but I need it to be 960 x 540. I can't turn in shaky footage.
What am I doing wrong and how can I get footage that is acceptable for submission?

Here is an example of how much quality is lost..

  • Exporting using Quicktime Converter in FCP

I am trying to export a short film using QuickTime conversion, file size PAL 720 x 576 16:9. I am saving it on my external which has loads of space and is MAC formatted it gets half way through and then just comes up as ERROR. This is the first time that I have seen it. I have tried on a number of ocassions and on a couple I have come across a pop up saying Error Missing Volume. Anybody else had these problems? Cheers MAX

Why are you using Quicktime Conversion? Why not export using "current settings"?
What are the original sequence codec settings?
What is the codec of the material in the sequence?

  • What format in expert settings for fast start on the web?

I exported a slide show to QT from iPhoto. Unlike imovie that gives you the possibility to use expert settings to export a fast start, iPhoto doe not have the option to export to expert settings.
I want my QT slide show to begin to play as it uploads on the .mac web page. By accident, (I don't know what I did) one of my video has a fast start on my web pages, it starts playing before it has finished uploading. On the other hand, most of my other videos or QT slide show, have to fully upload, which can take 5-10 minutes, before the viewer can see it playing.
Also, If I open my QT slide show exported from iPhoto in the size of 7.1MB, and re-export it using QT pro expert settings using Fast start, the file become 91MB big...... way too big to post on the .mac account!
What is the difference between hinted, streaming, fast start, and compressed header? I'm getting a little confused with the choices!!!
    please help!
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!
    michel

Some iPhoto slide shows (those that use only the fade effect) do not fast start. They are made up of three video tracks slightly offset in time and a tween track that sets the fade.
You could open them in QT Pro and use the save as menu. No re-compression but the file size will become three times larger because each of the video tracks will become independent (for lack of a better word). This new file will fast start.
Exporting isn't a good choice unless you use identical settings to the original (Photo-JPEG video codec and an extremely low frame rate).
The file size of the original is "trick" that can only be performed by iPhoto.

  • How to change export video size settings?

I just upgraded from iMovie to Final Cut Pro X.
I am trying to export my 1080P content as a 720P file, something that was very easy on the basic iMovie setup.
I noticed when I tried to export to Vimeo I was given options for file quality and video size.
Where do I find those options if I am doing an export to a file as opposed a direct Vimeo upload (i.e. Quicktime)?
Please don't tell me I have to buy Compressor for this...
    Thank you!

    Share>Export Using Compressor Settings>Apple>Apple Devices>HD for Apple Devices (10mbps)
    This will give 1280x720 HD
I don't think you need Compressor as the Compressor Settings are included in FCP X  .  .  .  I hope!

  • "Expert Settings" filters.

Just for an experiment, I "shared" my short movie in my usual way, (that is, so it could be burned to a disk and played on a DVD player), but this time I used "Expert Settings". I set everything as required for full quality dvd, but this time I went to the "filter" settings and added a "blur" of 2.
The movie compressed, and I then opened iDVD and burned it to a disk.
But when I played the disk, I sure as heck didn't notice any blurring or softening of the movie image. It looked exactly the same as it had when I shared and burned it on my usual "full DVD quality" setting, (which obviously doesn't have the blurring).
Speaking of that, I think digital video on the mini dv format is great, but maybe it's a little too great. Personally, I prefer a softer image, without that spikey, gritty, electronic sharpness that you get with a digital camera.
    Just my opinion.
But to get back to the question. Did I do something wrong? If I add filters during compression of my movie, do I have to use another application besides iDVD to burn it?

    John,
I've since tried doing that. Made a short, (1 minute) movie and "shared" it with a stronger blur filter. It worked, the blur was noticable this time. When I say "blur", I mean that the image was softer, much easier on the eye.
I think I'll do that every time, in future. Digital images are terrific, but in some circumstances, such as a shot of a highly textured surface, they can be too sharp, almost "gritty". When the camera pans on such a shot, I often see a strange phenomenum where everything seems to shimmer, like blinking stars. It's very unnatural.
    Thanks for your reply, John.

  • Imovie 09 export to quicktime settings.

    Hi,
I would like to export video clips that I shot using the iPhone 4 (720p) from imovie 09' however, I am having some difficulties with 'export using quicktime' settings
What is the best settings for export in this case?
Also what is the difference between these two; '1080 x 720p HD vs HD 1080 x 720p 16:9' from the export size settings?
Many thanks for your cooperation and efforts committed in dealing with this.

Welcome BarrenRegions to the  iMovie boards ..
no way to answer that question.. you have to compare apples with peaches.. (German proverb):
iMHD≥6 was a dv-only editor (and AIC, but this is another story...); it handles dv lossless.. frequent contributor lennart once made a test of ex- and reimporting a few dozends time the same clip = no loss of pic quality.
    now iM08/09:
it handles dv not as dv internally anymore; therefore it accepts lots of other codecs (mp2, avchd, h264...).. so, depending of your source, the export can be lossy.
we have mile-long threads about that, search for posts from Steve Mullen and Euisung Lee who did research this issue +ad nauseam+
as far as I followed that discussion: there's a 'trick', to convert - after import into iM08/09 - the imports to AppleIntermediate with tools as QTpro or Mpeg Streamclip. that blows-up size, but forces iM08/09 to keep quality a 100%...
.. sorry for being less helpful, even as a 'Silverback' on this board, all that is +a bit+ beyond my skills, needs and understanding.. to be honest: I switched awhile ago to FinalCutExpress, and will use iM09 when I'll get a new rec-device.. hopefully this year (Santa! do you listen?!...)

  • IMovie to Quicktime using expert export settings - help with size settings

I want to produce PAL DVDs in widescreen format using iDVD. The original video was recorded in standard size and I want to use iMovie HD to produce Quicktime movies for these DVDs.
I am using the expert settings to export to Quicktime files. I am using H.264 compression.
It is the size settings that I need your advice.
Which do I use? PAL 720x576 4:3, or PAL 720x576 16:9, or one of the HD settings?
    Do I preserve aspect ratio?
I have looked through many posts, etc but none readily answers my issue with size settings.

Yes - footage is in 4:3
I want to show the DVDs on widescreen TVs but not sure if TVs automatically adjust 4:3
movies into widescreen ratio (say with letterboxing).
For my standard footage video,I guess I am not sure of what ratios I should be using at the iMovie export to QuickTime stage, and then whether to set the iDVD project into 16:9 format, or leave it in 4:3 format and hope to widescreen TV do the converting.

  • Help needed for exporting video under expert settings

I was exporting my 4+ minutes video that I had created under expert settings (Compression type: H.264, Frame rate: 29.95, Key frames: automatic with frame reordering checked, Compressor quality: Best, Encoding: Best(muti-pass) & Data rate: Automatic). After the process was finished, I found out that the video would play normally for the first 25 seconds and then the video will freeze but the audio continues to play as normal. I then tried using the CD-ROM option instead of the expert settings and the video exported was playing fine.
I was using iMovie 5.0.2 and I have Quicktime 7.1.3 and iTunes 7.0.1
    Help is much appreciated!

Open the poorly working file in QuickTime Player and then open the Movie Info window.
What is the data rate of the file? If it is too high your machine is probably too under powered to play it.
